  1. "Ah, Miss Americana!," he replied, voice lifting a bit yet still very calm and serene. "So good to hear your voice!" She'd known about all the therapy he'd been receiving. She also knew that, in a way, she never really knew him. No one did, since he'd been under the influence of that otherworldly thing since long before he'd come to Freedom. So who was this at her door? And what did he want? "As I was trying to explain to your receptionist, I'm in town for a bit and wanted to get in touch with you. I've already visited with the League, and a few others, and only now have managed to find time to contact you." She knew this already, but confirmation was good. "I know you -- and others -- had been following my progress after the... incident," his voice faltered a bit, but quickly recovered, "and I thought you might be interested in a fuller report, as well as notify you of some future plans I am considering. I also wanted to congratulate you on all the hard work you have done in salvaging and maintaining the company... and to apologize for putting you in that situation."
  2. An important question: will I be using Dead Head's existing sheet (where he's PL 15 defensively, PL 12 offensively), or the one I've redone for when he goes to Bedlam and which I've requested by edited in (where he's PL 10)?
  3. April 2nd, 2019 "Sir, April Fool's Day was yesterday," the ArcheTech receptionist said, trying to keep annoyance out of their voice. "And that's in incredibly bad taste to-" "Yes, I know what yesterday was," Archeville replied calmly, "I am aware that the timing of this call is not ideal. But I am back in town, now, and this was the earliest chance I had to call to make an appointment to meet with Miss Americana. And she will want to meet with me, because-" It really was the first chance he'd had to call. He'd been in Freedom for about a week, intentionally keeping a low profile. He had already mended fences with one of the (former) Interceptors, and had a harrowing encounter while meeting with the Freedom League just yesterday. He was still shaken from that, but he knew he had much more to do, so he pushed himself on. And now he was trying to set up a meeting with the woman whom he had handed his company over to, which was proving about as difficult as he'd expected. "Because you're Viktor Archeville, founder of ArcheTech," the receptionist repeated. "Yeah, yeah, you said that already. Do you know how many people try to get to see her? And they pull off better stories than that." "I am sure that is the case," he replied, still calm and smooth, "but I really am..." Meanwhile, an automated alert had pinged Gina Evans. She had kept tabs on Archeville for some years after the ArchEvil incident, but eventually handed that over to an assortment of 'bots. So she was aware that Archeville had come back to Freedom, and was planning to meet with various folks, but not his exact schedule. The most recent ping alerted her that Archeville -- or at least someone claiming to be him -- had called in to ArcheTech, and was trying to make an appointment to meet with her.
  4. Edited - TA Finally completed that revamp/revision for Dok, getting him ready for SPAAACE. Removed Benefits (Membership [Freedom League Auxiliary]) and (Status [world-famous Science-Hero, former CEO of ArcheTech]), reduced Wealth from 3 to 2. Removed Connected & Contacts -- I figured those would've been burned post-ArchEvil, and it's not like he could easily call on them when he's out in SPAAACE anyway -- and replaced them with Online Research and Well-Informed. Also redid his skills a bit, he now has some Knowledge (Earth Sciences), which'll be useful when he's studying alien worlds! And I've got his Veteran Rewards (using three of 'em!) up, for his revised Utility Belt/Coat and slick new Space Winnebago. His new stats can be seen here, though I can copy/paste to here is preferred.
  5. Timeline 1937 Oksana Kunis born in Korosten, Ukraine. 1953 Vyacheslav Palahniuk born to Yuriy Palahniuk & Larysa Oistrakh. 1962 Aleksandr Palahniuk born to Yuriy Palahniuk & Larysa Oistrakh. Kateryna born to Mykola Chornovil & Oksana Kunis, in Korosten, Ukraine. 1986 April 25-26: Chernobyl disaster. The city of Korosten, 90 km away, was declared a zone of voluntary evacuation, as it had suffered considerable fallout. Vyacheslav and Aleksandr Palahniuk, Kateryna Chornovil, and her mother Oksana all evacuate and head to the west coast of America; Vyacheslav & Kateryna meet and fall in love along the way. (Yuriy & Larysa move east, but remain in Ukraine, settling in Kharkiv; Mykola remains in Korosten, as his relationship with Oksana had taken a turn.) 2002 July 26th: Davyd Ocheret Palahniuk is born to Vyacheslav & Kateryna, in Freedom City, New Jersey. 2019 April 18th: Davyd is changed. He lets his Uncle Sasha know (since the authorities needed a parent or guardian to contact), but not his parents or babusya Oksana. April 22nd: David is brought on to the Claremont Academy campus, and meets several students. Will this Mud Pack hold? April 23rd: A routine tour of the Claremont Campus sends Crystal Gazer, Horrorshow, White Lioness, and Zenith on a strange Nostalgia Trip. May 6th: Davyd meets Grimalkin and Miss Grue, who wish to help him with his powers and see if he's interested in Lynn's Body Doubles service. He also finds out that he's got some Grue in him! June 24th: Summer Vacation! Davyd goes with Adam "Specimen" Lanchester, Pan "Forever Boy" Barrie, Louise "Crystal Gazer" Beaumont, and Veronica Danger to the British Virgin Islands. But what's this: a sunken ship off the coast? (Dead Men Tell No Tales) July 1st: Horrorshow goes into SPAAACE! He, Crystal Gazer, Gauss, and Salvo go to CoVic Station, where the newly-joining worlds of Xix (around the nearby, undiscovered star of Lia) is hosting an open celebration around their union with the interstellar alliance. The hope is that observing a peaceful transition between isolation to community will provide a safe, helpful means of understanding the galactic neighbors they might encounter later in life. (Stellar School)

  7. I finally figured out some formatting tricks! (Don't copy/paste from Google Docs, do so from Word or OpenOffice).
  8. "I'm happy for all the help I can get!," he said to Monica, unable to help but warm to her. "My background's pretty standard. I live in an apartment, in Riverside, with my parents, and my uncle, and my babusya - ah, my grandmother. Dad's a musician, mom's an auto mechanic. Uncle Sasha knows about my abilities, but he's the only one." He glanced over at Judy and Ashley, "I do want to tell them, I just don't know how. Mom's a real 'mother bear' type, so I know she'd freak out." He was quiet a moment, then swerved toward what he felt was a more upbeat topic. "So when do I start training? I've had some stage combat practice, for theater and such, but I know I'll need more training for when I get into an actual fight. Not that I'm looking forward to those -- I don't want to fight, I'm not eager to do so, but I know sometimes it must be done. And with my powers, I should have a lot of options, ways to end a fight before it even starts. Like scaring them off." His eyes suddenly grew a bit wider, "ooh, do you all want to see something I've been working on for that?"
  9. Dead Head Dance Macabre (5) 5 posts, +16 from Dok = 21 posts = 2pp Doktor Archeville [Titanium!] Better Thinking in the Lost World (4) One Boss, Two Boss, Red Boss, Green Boss (12) 4+12 = 16 posts, to Dead Head Horroshow Body Doubles (5) Mud Pack (6) Nostalgia Trip (3) 5+6+3 = 14 posts = 2pp Posts from Dok should go to Dead Head first, he's closest to being maxed.
  10. Dead Head can fit the "investigator" part (lots of Gather Info, decent Notice & Sense Motive, several Comprehends & Super-Senses), and definitely fits the "supernatural" part. And I haven't moved him to Bedlam yet, he's still kicking around in Freedom. (Maybe some lose thread at the end is what ultimately sends him to Bedlam?)
  11. Soo... is now time to roll initiative? Or not, I just saw that Tarrakhash fractured his sternum yesterday!
  12. "I could probably use some help with biology and zoology," he said quickly to Nicole, even as he was being gently guided away, "so, yeah, I'm up for a trade!" ~Thank you,~ he thought back to Lulu. ~It's funny, I never felt like I 'fit in' with most people, but now, I could fit in most anywhere!~ Davyd slowly shifted out of his chameleon camouflage as they made their way to the dorms. "No, I have't been assigned a roommate yet. Or even a room. Since it's so late in the school year, I think there was still some debate on whether I should wait until next school year to fully move in, and finish out the last two months at Roosevelt High, or if I should just jump in here. Those coversations might be easier if my parents knew, but..." he trailed off, face filled with concern and not a little doubt. Which was quickly replaced by a look of confused awe at Leroy's words! "Oh, but what about genderfluid or intersex or nonbinary students?"

  14. Davyd knew how Corinne would respond, about how not everyone was cut out to be a hero, or even wanted to be a hero. He'd heard of many people like that, back in his parent's homeland: metahumans hiding who they were, what they could do, for fear of being captured by faceless comrades in the dark of night, to be conscripted into service, or experimented on. He had some sympathy for them, of course, but he also knew that their fears were from another land, another time. And then there was the boom, and a flurry of action, and then very little action. He saw Corinne and Àjàṣorò leap to action, and followed suit, standing next to White Lioness and prepared to morph into something mean & nasty to scare whoever was causing this mess. Remember your training!
  15. Archeville had been content to hang back a bit while Delta and Sgt. Henry hacked their way through, focusing on the flora and fauna all about them. Most he was passingly familiar with, though some were unknown; whether this was due to Darwin-X mutation or simply never having been catalogued before, he could not say. He was quite excited at it all -- even happy. Even the smell of the corpse didn't immediately sour his mood, as he mistook it for some exotic flower. The reactions of his WEST cohorts, though, snapped him to attention. He approached the mess, preparing to do his own examination. "Looks to be some sort of dinosAAAUUUGGGHHH!!!" he yelped as a primitive snare wrapped around his ankle and flung him up into a tree!
  16. 1d20+5 = 15 [1d20 = 10] http://orokos.com/roll/723590 D'oh!
  17. "Ohhh," Davyd replied to Leroy's explanation, diffusing some of the tension between him and Nicole. He turned to her, "you are going to work at ArcheTech? Even after all..." he gestured vaguely around, trying to reference the chaos and destruction wrought some years ago by its (apparently possessed) founder. He was quiet for some moments, feeling pressure from the obvious tension between his various student escorts. This had clearly been built up over some time, and, as a newcomer, he was clueless on some of the finer aspects of it. So he reverted to his theatre techie training, taking a few steps back and blending unobtrusively into the background. He did so more literally in this instance, though, his skin taking on the color-matching traits of a chameleon! Get it together, Dayv, you'll be facing much worse out there. "I think I would like to see the dorms, please" he finally said, though still blended in with the rack of DVDs behind him.
  18. Dok'll use all that to examine the great big gobs of greasy grimy gibbon guts.
  19. Nah, a little failure now and then is good for character development!
  20. Having trouble posting due to lack of computer/relying on phone. Just go ahead and assume he failed the Notice check, being too distracted by the realization of certain lacks of knowledge.
  21. I doubt there is anything here that would be a threat to Delta or myself, Archeville thought in response to Sgt. Henry's warning about snakebites, even with the changes from Darwin-X. Though we could be in for some nasty surprises! Still, even in a standard jungle environ, there are plenty of hazards for you and Dr. Cortez to worry about. "Agreed," Archeville replied to Delta's assessment, though he wasn't exactly being honest. I mean, that sounds like a good reason. I am detecting several thermal spikes, but I've honestly never done much study of meteorology to determine if that's normal weather patterns, or of geology to determine if the rocks or soil might have some unusual heat-retaining properties. And this is something I'll need to know, if I'm going to be exploring other worlds! Lost in his own thoughts and examinations, Archeville stood semi-oblivious as Sgt. Henry and Delta began hacking their way through.
  22. 1d20+5: 10 [1d20=5] oof! ... I'm gonna leave that for now.
  23. "Alright, then," he said, taking one last look at WEST's scanners and his own internal diagnostics, "everyone outside." Leading the team out the hangar door, he selected a spot a good dozen yards or so from the plane, and paced out a circle about 25 feet in diameter. Once that was done, he held out his Electromagnetic Screwdriver with one hand and manipulated the controls with his thumb, with one thumb while the fingers of his other hand danced across the control panel of his Gravimetric Belt. Moments later, everyone in the area felt a slight twinge of vertigo as gravitic forces played hob with their inner ears, and a small pinpoint of light appeared about a dozen feet in the air above the Doktor. The pinpoint created a soft BOOF sound as it expanded rapidly, opening to a 25 foot diameter portal. The edges were a shimmering blue light, and through the portal could be seen a thick patch of jungle. "That will take us 30 kilometres in," he said, turning to face the others and smiling with some satisfaction. "I don't trust those energy signatures, so the other 1.3 kilometres or so, we'll need to go on foot."
  24. "By the Crimson Crown of Cronenberg!," Davyd!Seven intoned, before registering what Corrine had said. "What? Why?" S/he gave her an odd look, as if she had suddenly sprouted a second head. "Why wouldn't we? Do you... not want to be like them?" He morphed smoothly back to his own form as he spoke, "I mean, sure, maybe the museums and statues can be a bit much, but they're heroes. They put their lives on the line for others, often for others who had no idea what they were doing. And they did it because it needed to be done, and because it's the right thing to do." He gestured towards the holograms, "if not for brave folks like the Next Gen, and the Freedom League, and all the others, the world may have ended last summer. Or the summer before that. Or the summer before that. There's always going to be some sort of catastrophe -- global or personal -- that needs dealing with, and if we're able to help in some way, then we should do so!"
  25. Our people, he thought, remembering the little chat they'd had some years ago when he revealed his father's mother -- the mistress of his Nazi super-scientist grandfather -- was Jewish. But... no, no. I am not sure I could feel comfortable in that world, or that anyone there would be comfortable with me in it. Archeville smiled and nodded solemnly, "I can appreciate that, yes. But your foundation sounds like an excellent idea!" He smiled warmly and placed a hand over hers -- it felt a bit cooler than usual, under the holodisguise, likely due to the metals in his skin. "And while I know this is a thing you want to do, need to do, yourself, if there is any way I can help, please let me know." "But for now," he patted her hand and pushed his chair back, "I must be going. Lots of people to meet, apologies to make, closures to... resolve." He stood, stepped to the side of the table, and tried to stand with arms half-open, willing to accept any sort of embrace but not expecting or asking for one. "It was really good to see you again, and I wish you all the best."
