I'm going to a friend's housewarming party tonight, then seeing family over the weekend, so my posting will be spotty at best. Well, spottier than usual.

UP says the "extending force field to protect/provide Immunity for others" trick is done with Affects Others and Area [burst], so... not really sure if Progression would be used to increase the number of individuals protected (as for Affects Others) or the size of the protective field (as for Area). If it's just by Area, she could conceivably make a field big enough to encompass the entire aircraft!
-
I'd go with Immunity 4 (cold, low pressure/vacuum, suffocation; Extras: Affects Others, Area [burst]; Flaw: Distracting; PFs: Progression 2 [up to 5 others]) [8PP] for a force field that's keeping what air & heat we have inside.

"There appears to be more going on here than it seems, Steven." The Doktor paused the recording, rewound it, and played it again, slowing it as the scenes played out once more, even pausing it in a few key spots. "Most would not see it, but my mind is faster than most... and I know a thing or two about keeping secrets. See, there, the look on her face... there, a gentle touch... there, a furtive glance... a flinch... another... even a snarl, there. It... it is an act, Steven. A terrible, horrible act they are putting on."

"Difficult largely because the views on sexual identity have been so narrow," he half-whispered to Mahmoud as they washed up, "and it is only recently come to public attention that there is more to gender than the simple male/female dichotomy." He chuckled, "humanity really is a wonder, even without factoring in metahuman abilities!" "Oh, my, that is delectable!," he exclaimed as he returned to the dining room. "And is that turmeric? My favorite spice!" He turned to Fatima, taking the offered chair as he spoke (and only partially aware he was doing so.) "Good for the brain, you know! Helps lower cholesterol, too, and boosts the immune system! I try to include some in many of the sausages I make; it goes well with many flavors, and it gives them a nice golden color!"

"Thank you for your assistance, organic citizens," the now re-capitated robot said. "Please continue your cooperative nature with the medical and law enforcement personnel who are en route." Once the officials arrived, Protectron gave its report of the recent events, making sure to keep the two "Harry Prints" from contacting anyone else. It asked for some zip-ties from the police officers to bind the two, then radioed ASTRO Labs. Once it was satisfied ASTRO would take care of the two, Protectron waved goodbye to the Flag Street Gang members as it flew off to begin searching for the real Harry Print.

Fort save (1d20+4=8) Fails! But he cannot succumb -- he must not succumb! So pop an HP (4 now), minimum result's a 15, so he passes. With Dok's current mindset (on Enhanced CHA) and no tools, he's at +16 on Knowledge (Life Science) and (Physical Science). Knowledge (Life Sciences) check (1d20+16=35) He not only knows what being up here unprotected will do to us, he knows how to bioengineer a life form capable of surviving up here with no problem! (Which he apparently already did!) Knowledge (Physical Sciences) check (1d20+16=25) not as good, but definitely up there!

That seems like the best option, yes. Everything else looks fine, so once you do that, I'll give my approval and turn it over to a second set of eyes.

Much better. I would like a bit of explanation on something, though. I know I told you that Gadgets build was alright when you presented it to me in Chat, but I've been thinking on it since then, and have one concern. Please explain how the Flaw Limited (Medieval Apparel) is a Flaw.

Some folks bows an' arrows. Some use swords, or fightin' sticks, or whips. A few use guns. Me, I use a shovel. It's a versatile tool: it can be used to dig holes, to fill in holes, used as a lever to help move stuff, and, of course, be used to wallop folks 'cross the head. For years I been usin' any ol' shovel I could get my hands on. Usually I can get one from the trash bin of some hardware store, if they throw out a defective batch. Or from someone's garden or tool shed, if the need's pressin' enough, though I always make sure to return it, an' a little somethin' for the trouble if it got broke. And that's been my big problem: the things breakin'. I'm pretty strong -- stronger than I ever was when alive, since I ain't gotta worry 'bout hurtin' myself -- and I go up against some pretty tough critters. Against a run-o'-the-mill wood an' steel shovel, nine times outta ten, the shovel's gonna break. Which actually has come in handy when I need a wooden stake to ram through some bloodsucker, but more often than not I'm stuck holdin' splinters and a bent shovel head. So I finally talked to the team -- Nick Cimitiere, Equinox, and Ghost Girl -- for some advice. 'Nox has a sword she pulls up outta thin air -- er, outta the aether -- but that mostly worked 'cuz she made the whole thing with her own mojo (which is why it's so tough). Nick had some ideas about storin' it in some death realm, which I could access easy enough, but there's the issue of it breakin'. It was a comment from Ghost Girl that gave me the idea on how to make it tougher, when she said somethin' 'bout she & I lastin' longer than any tool: make it outta me! I extracted some of my bones -- thigh and shin bones for the shaft, hand bones for the handle, and an arrangement of shoulder blades for the head, all bound together with my own ligaments (had a doozy of a time extractin' them!) -- and with Nick's help was able to keep 'em regeneratin' just like the rest of my own body. He also helped me work out how to store it in an' take it out of a small pocket of a Death Realm (a small, out-of-the-way spot in Duat). Now I'll never be without a reliable shovel! Device 1 (Shovel, 5 points; Flaw: Easy to Lose; PF: Indestructible [self-repairs from any damage], Subtle [can be stored in pocket dimension]) [5PP] Shovel 1.5 (3 points; PFs: Alternate Power 2) [5PP] BE: Strike 2 (PF: Mighty) {3/3} AP: Burrowing 3 (digging; Soil: 5MPH / 50ft per Move Action, Hard Clay / Packed Earth: 2.5MPH / 25ft per Move Action) {3/3} AP: Super-Strength 1 (leverage; STR 27 [Heavy Load: 1,040 lbs.]; PF: Breaking) {3/3} Alternatively, just have it as a power; he has several such shovels stored in multiple Death Realms, so can't really be disarmed. Shovel 1.5 (3 points; PFs: Alternate Power 2) [5PP] BE: Strike 2 (shovel strike; PF: Mighty) {3/3} AP: Burrowing 3 (digging; Soil: 5MPH / 50ft per Move Action, Hard Clay / Packed Earth: 2.5MPH / 25ft per Move Action) {3/3} AP: Super-Strength 1 (leverage; STR 27 [Heavy Load: 1,040 lbs.]; PF: Breaking) {3/3}

A short trip down a service elevator deposited them into Archeville's immense sub-basement, where his main laboratories and workshops were. The floor was split into roughly four sections, with a massive monitor-covered pillar in the center, looming over all. The northwest section, housing the physics laboratories and mechanical workshops, and the southwest section, housing the electronics and robotics workstations, was where Archeville headed. So cool to be working on such a fascinating piece of technology! I am already getting so many ideas for how to incorporate elements of it into other- but, no. As groundbreaking as this may be, the real impact here will be on Steven, on what its contents will show him. ... but it is a really cool piece of technology... "I think that just about has it," he said at last. The device Harrier had brought in now had nearly a dozen wires and cables connected to it, feeding into a small cluster of devices that would be able to play the data on it as a full sensory holographic display. He made the final connection, and held his breath as it all powered up.

November 17th, 2011, 10:35pm (after discussion held during Upgraded Protection) Status Report: After 11 months 16 days 12 hours 35 minutes of working with the organics at The Lab, I have been permitted greater security clearance and my own personal workspace among the private offices and living quarters of floors 6-10. I may request instead for my personal quarters to be located on sublevels -2 - -3, near the fusion reactor, or sublevel -4, near the particle accelerator. There are multiple reasons for this: A] Proximity to energy generators preferable, both for personal use and for own experiments. B] I can act as a secondary monitoring system for the generators in case of accident. C] The energies produced on these levels create 'blind spots' in The Lab's security systems, so my presence may be a safeguard against any intruders who use these blind spots to their advantage. I am also considering off-Lab sites for secondary personal space/'headquarters,' ideally in places where my presence would not overly disrupt the dominant organic life (Homo sapiens sapiens), and/or places where I can study the so-called 'extremophiles.' Options thus far include A Pacific seabed facility built on top of and into a caldera in the Kodiak-Bowie seamount chain at the bottom of the Gulf of Alaska. An artificial iceberg, moving about the Arctic. The Caucasus Mountains. The Sahara Desert. A small cislunar satellite. Low-gravity environment ideal for manufacturing certain chemicals and electronics components, and freedom from Terran atmosphere would provide clearer view of the galaxy. Since I can fly, a lack of gravity would not be an issue; I can do without gravity generators, excepting in cases where a gravity field is necessary for the functioning of equipment. The Moon. Possibly a combination lunar surface/low orbit facility, with the orbiting part tethered to the lunar surface facility by super-alloy cables. In addition to benefits mentioned in cislunar facility, relative proximity to Farsider City would permit chances to interact with wider array of sapient organics. Travel to/from last two choices pose difficulties; I prefer not to use teleportation technologies, out of concern for damage to delicate internal components or gravitic interference with operating systems. Circumvent by uploading consciousness/personality/sentience directly into facilities via ultra-secure encrypted wireless link? Would need to test transfer-ability of my mind first, to/from other humanoid bodies of various sizes, then non-humanoid forms (spherical, serpentine), to see how well I adjust to inhabiting different forms. Requirements for Personal Space Owing to my non-organic nature, my needs are few, and thus so are the requirements for any personal space I would inhabit/utilize. Since I can operate in a far wider range of temperature ranges than many organics, I do not need to maintain as narrow a band of temperatures as my Lab-friends. My personal quarters need only be heated and cooled to the extent necessary for the equipment within to work. However, I will install thermal shielding around my space, both for increased energy efficient and to prevent neighboring Lab-spaces from being uncomfortably heated or cooled. Atmospheric concerns are less an issue for me than for organics. If I have some piece of equipment that requires a toxic gas to operate, or that creates a toxic gas as a byproduct of its functioning, I do not need to contain or vent those gases as long as they pose no threat to the function of myself and other devices within my space. However, I will be sure to properly vent any toxic gases from my space so they do not contaminate other spaces within The Lab. Similarly, radiation poses little threat to me -- save in instances where it is intense enough to burn or melt inorganic matter -- so I can do without bulky radiation shielding for certain experiments. Radioactive gases pose a similarly nil threat to me. However, I will install shielding around the outer perimeter of my space so as not to irradiate other Lab space, and arrange for the safe disposal of any waste products. Since I can see in a wider spectrum than most organics, I can illuminate many areas with more efficient infrared or ultraviolet lights rather than the full spectrum used by organics. My ability to hear a wider range of sounds would allow me to set alarms on frequencies my Lab-Friends would not be able to hear, and thus would not be discomfited by their sounding. Since I can wirelessly access any computer or electronic device, space can be saved by omitting keyboards and monitors from computers, as I directly input commands and stream data. Any devices that do require a physical interface can be connected to specially designed keyboards, which would be far more efficient than the standard QWERTY keyboard used in most current computers. Space can also be saved by omitting physical labels, relying on programmed knowledge and AR overlays to identify objects. These features alone, before any dedicated self-defense measures are considered, would provide adequate deterrents to intruders. Additional non-dedicated defensive systems may include the robotic construction arms set throughout the facility; the assorted clamps, drills, and welders can make for effective restraints or weapons. My space will house numerous fellow mechanoids, both those I create and those I help liberate. They may be able to assist in any needed defensive maneuvers, though it is my hope that they never see violence. For now I shall focus on the space allocated to me in The Lab. Sounded like the two guards falling. Could be professionals who know what they're doing, or just some jumpy amateurs. Cannot identify the laugh, either. I have to get out there to see! But I have to make sure she is not in any undue danger, too. "Maybe you should be stayink here, young miss," the humble spice merchant said, steel slowly showing in his voice. "They see you, they know you work here, may hurt you to get to monies. They see me, they see older man, dressed plainly; is customer, not work here, so they cannot force me to open anything. Maybe I talk sense to these punks... maybe not. They use me as hostage," he gave a slightly exaggerated shrug, "is okay, I have long life. You, you are young, have much ahead of you." He turned to walk out the vault door.

"She may yet get her shot at the Olympics, if the petitions ever get through." He looked up from the album to Mona, then back to her parents, "for as long as there have been people decrying the presence of metahumans in sports, there have been just as many pushing to have special categories for them. Of course there are all the usual concerns -- making sure there are no performance-enhancing drugs amping up their abilities, for example -- but the bigger concern is how to divide up the categories. Would you split them up by origin, meta-humans with biologically-derived powers in one group, extraterrestials in another, and robots in yet a third? The assorted 'weight categories' would need to be refined, too: Caradoc, Cannonade, and Fulcrum all have super-human strength, but Cannonade's is greater than Caradoc's, and Fulcrum's is greater than both of them combined!" He leaned back a bit, relaxing slightly as he slid into 'Professor mode,' "of course, there is also the question of 'what is Metahuman?'. Arrowhawk and Bowman are both crack shots, perhaps better than anyone else currently alive, but they do not have metahuman powers -- their aptitude and skill is wholly the result of natural talent and extensive training and practice. But then you have Jack of all Blades, famed and fabled protector of the West End, or Wander, the powerhouse of Young Freedom." Archeville fought the urge to flash Mona a wink, as he suspected her family was carefully scrutinizing him. "Jack is one of the best swordsmen around, perhaps better than any who have ever lived, but his skill is from a combination of extensive training, like Arrowhawk, and a metahuman ability to sense energy patterns. Wander is in a similar situation, her speed and reflexes -- as well as her strength and resilience -- are greatly enhanced, allowing her to land blows more accurately. Should they all be lumped together under the same category?"

The Doktor nodded along with Steve's words as he worked; if it seemed he was paying more attention to the device than to the freed Omegadrone's story... well, yes, perhaps he was, a little, but he certainly did not intend to offend. "Hrm, yes, entropy is something of a multiversal constant. All things break down, in time. It is, as far as I can tell, only Omega's terrible will that has made it such a malevolent place. But with him... absent, the ones who were under him will fight and squabble. It may give the rest of the multiverse a bit of a reprieve, in that the ones directing the Terminus are too busy with their own infighting to focus on consuming other worlds, but once a victor emerges -- either from among the clashing forces, or a returned Omega himself -- they shall resume their destructive goals." Now would be the best time to shore up defenses, warning systems, and the like. There may never be another chance -- just because Young Freedom defeated him once does not mean they would be able to do so again. I should convene with Doctor Atom, Daedalus, and- Archeville looked up, blinking. "Of course I believe you, Steven," he said warmly. "What reason would I have not to? You have proven, time and again, to be a good man, despite all the horrors you have witnessed, all you have lived through. And once I crack this," he held the recorder up, "others will see the kind of people your parents were. Now, I think I know what I need to access this, in my workshops, so I can either pop down there and bring the gear up, and we can take the recorder down there. Your choice."

In order to make sure the Refs accurately count all your IC posts and award you the due amount of power points, please post with a list of all the threads in which your character posted IC this month (including the News forum). Remember that we require that posts be a minimum of about 500 characters. You can see here what a 400, 500, and 600 character post looks like. Posts shorter than 500 characters will not be counted. Please also mark things from the Non-Canonical forum as being non-canonical, as those count 1/2 (2 posts made for your char in a non-canon thread count as 1 post for the char). And if you are GMing something, list those threads, too. GM-only posts count as full posts, and can be assigned to whichever of your characters needs a 'push' to get up in post numbers. When you make your list, please post a link to the IC threads -- preferably to the top of the page where your first post for that month appears -- so we (and the auto-count program) can jump right to it. When you post the link to your thread, the URL should look like this http://www.freedomplaybypost.com/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=4478&p=100643#p100643 or this http://www.freedomplaybypost.com/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=4478&start=10 or this http://www.freedomplaybypost.com/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=4478 NOT this http://www.freedomplaybypost.com/viewtopic.php?p=100643#p100643 The four digit number in the URL (bolded & underlined in the correct example) is the thread id number which we need to use the autocountamotron. When you start a thread, make sure [iC] is in the title/subject line of the IC thread, and [OOC] is in the title of the OOC thread. If you make a post in an IC thread as a GM or an NPC, add [GM] in the subject line of the thread. If you make a post and [iC] is not in the subject line, the AutoCounter will not count it. And if you do not put [GM] in the places you post as an NPC or Ref, it won't count those properly. Please list your threads in alphabetical order. Please clearly note any threads in which you are both player and GM/running an NPC. Also, when you start a new thread, please mark it on the Timeline (if you have a handle here, you have an account for the Wiki, and anyone with an account can edit it). You do not have to be specific on the date, but I would like to keep track of when things are happening relative to each other. The Timeline also serves as an index for everything we've done in the nearly three years this site's been active, and it's useful to know if X happens before or after Y. If you've done any extracurriculars -- artwork, HellQ, 20 Questions, NPC, Vignette, Wiki work, etc. -- please be sure to list them along with your active threads. Failure to comply with these guidelines may result in your post counts being postponed or skipped completely.

Ah, so Steelgrave used propaganda before his turning. But he was one of his world's heroes -- what do heroes need with propaganda? Perhaps there was a darkness already within him, which is what lead to his bring corrupted. And he could hide it, as he'd his so many other things. "... hunh" was all he managed to say as he worked. He examined the components of the recorder, and tried a connections with the alien crystal-player, but did not yet find a way to connect them. "So, you say open warfare among them has happened before, even when Omega was around? What do you think is going on now, with him... well, I will not say gone, as I am not sure an entity like that can be made gone. But, what do you think is happening there now? There has never been an absence like this before, has there?"
