  10. My computer's ability to connect to the internet has been sporadic at best since the 31st, and my laptop's lost all ability to connect (that, or the few places I took it to had the crappiest of wifis). Not sure if it's my computer or the network -- my wife's been having some problems with her laptop's connectivity, but not as bad as what I've been experiencing. Hopefully this isn't going to require an expensive computer repair, b/c I'm still deep in post-X-Mas debt. Fortunately everything at work seems fine... but we're on reduced hours this week (classes start back next Monday), so the place is only open for about an hour outside of my work schedule.

  12. (Sorry for the delay, have been having some severe comp problems since early Saturday) In order to make sure the Refs accurately count all your IC posts and award you the due amount of power points, please post with a list of all the threads in which your character posted IC this month (including the News forum). Remember that we require that posts be a minimum of about 500 characters. You can see here what a 400, 500, and 600 character post looks like. Posts shorter than 500 characters will not be counted. Please also mark things from the Non-Canonical forum as being non-canonical, as those count 1/2 (2 posts made for your char in a non-canon thread count as 1 post for the char). And if you are GMing something, list those threads, too. GM-only posts -- as well as NPC Villain posts -- also count 1/2, and can be assigned to whichever of your characters needs a 'push' to get up in post numbers. When you make your list, please post a link to the IC threads -- preferably to the top of the page where your first post for that month appears -- so we (and the auto-count program) can jump right to it. When you post the link to your thread, the URL should look like this http://www.freedomplaybypost.com/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=4478&p=100643#p100643 or this http://www.freedomplaybypost.com/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=4478&start=10 or this http://www.freedomplaybypost.com/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=4478 NOT this http://www.freedomplaybypost.com/viewtopic.php?p=100643#p100643 The four digit number in the URL (bolded & underlined in the correct example) is the thread id number which we need to use the autocountamotron. When you start a thread, make sure [iC] is in the title/subject line of the IC thread, and [OOC] is in the title of the OOC thread. If you make a post in an IC thread as a GM or an NPC, add [GM] in the subject line of the thread. If you make a post and [iC] is not in the subject line, the AutoCounter will not count it. And if you do not put [GM] in the places you post as an NPC or Ref, it won't count those properly. Please list your threads in alphabetical order. Please clearly note any threads in which you are both player and GM/running an NPC. Also, when you start a new thread, please mark it on the Timeline (if you have a handle here, you have an account for the Wiki, and anyone with an account can edit it). You do not have to be specific on the date, but I would like to keep track of when things are happening relative to each other. The Timeline also serves as an index for everything we've done in the nearly three years this site's been active, and it's useful to know if X happens before or after Y. If you've done any extracurriculars -- artwork, HellQ, 20 Questions, NPC, Vignette, Wiki work, etc. -- please be sure to list them along with your active threads. Failure to comply with these guidelines may result in your post counts being postponed or skipped completely.
  13. "Hooo-eee, that was a story, alright!," he exclaimed, actually slapping one knee for emphasis. He slid up alongside Ghost Girl and put an arms around one shoulder, waving his free hand across the cemetery before them. "There was two whole armies, dukin' it out t'see who'd be the real Lord of all the Dead! On one side, Baron Samedi, an' all his zombies an' tonton macoutes an' hoodoo men an' bokors an' such, an' on th'other, Hades an' his shades an' strigoi an' werewolves an' all manner a' nasties! Whole thin built up for near a month," he spun around to face out to the city, turning Kimber with him, "critters an' cultists comin' form all over, convergin' right here," he spun himself and Kimber around again, back towards the cemetery, and pointed at the ground, "to a big cave system 'neath here! 'Course, the good men an' women a' Freedom wouldn't stand for that, nope, not one bit! We beat 'em back," he clapped Nick sharply on the back, and winked at Equinox, "an' the two a' them is still lickin' they wounds o'er the whoopin' we gave 'em!"
  14. "Hey!," Dead Head yelled as he tried to leap between the taureau-trois-graines and Nick. "Gonna be hard for you t'rope this critter if'n he gouges a new one in ya!" He scurried side to side, trying to gauge where it would go next, "lemme run interference while you knock it outta the park!" Mutt joined the revenant in running about, but Dead Head had other plans. Git on in there, Mutt, the thought at him, an' get them fellers out! Rescue! Yes! Mutt galloped towards the warehouse, intent on finding the two guards he'd spied earlier. "I got Mutt workin' on extractin', so git this fella on to pasture!"
  15. Sorry, all, I thought Ecal was up. Please remember Dead Head's using Interpose to protect Nick and 'Nox! I'm drawing a blank on what to do, and don't want to hold this up any longer, so I'll just have Dead Head continue interposing to keep Nick and 'Nox safe. Mutt, though, will fly into the warehouse and start working on getting those two guards out.

  19. The tembo spasmed and staggered, but did not fall. It glared at Archeville, mouth slavering, partly from overwhelming desire to eat his soft flesh, partly from not being able to control its drooling reflex. It reared back, but before it could lunge forward two long, thick sticks prodded it from above and pushed it back towards its cage. “” Oghran shouted over the sounds of onlookers settling bets, “” “” he replied, flashing another smile at Vaerhirmana and her blonde companion. “” Oghran sputtered again, as did a few of the onlookers. “” ““ Vaerhirmana chimed in, “” Oghran grumbled and groused. “” she added. Oghran’s grumbling lessened, and he gestured at the ramp, which his half-giants replaced so Archeville could climb out. Once he reached the top, Oghran poked at the slashes across his belly, harumphed, then pointed at the tent they’d passed earlier. “” “” Vaerhirmana repeated, socked at the news. Other gladiators around them had similar reactions. Oghran scowled and motioned for silence, “” he shouted, waving everyone away.
  20. Yah, that was close! Another few centimeters and it would have snagged intestine! Got to end this, now, before it kills me! The Doktor slipped into his melee fugue state, shifting gears from “look good for the crowds” to “end this, now” mode. He noted its movements, its positioning, where it would most likely be in the next second, next microsecond, and brought his staff down with all the force he could muster on where the center of its skull would be. The move worked, and the beast was dazed. A crowd had gathered around the top of the pit, gladiators of all races coming to see whether the new meat would get eaten or not. The Doktor barely noted that one of the newcomers, a woman with close-cropped blonde hair, and Vaerhirmana were engaged in heated discussion. He prepared for another swing, but the beast’s uncoordinated staggers were much harder to predict, and his blow fell short, sinking into the bloodied dirt before it. By now the beast had recovered, and it lunged for Archeville again, fangs slowing with a weird, crackling clack energy. Archeville pushed back on the staff, like a reverse pole-vault, evading the beast’s terrible maw. He swung around on the pole, making it think he was going for a kick to the side, but at the last moment planted his feet firmly on the sand, flipped the staff up, and rammed it into creature’s mouth, striking the back of the its throat!
  21. The barely-visible shimmer stalked out of the cage, circling around its prey. It considered making a run for freedom, up and out of the pit, but it knew it would not get far. Besides, there was tasty prey here, now. A thin thing, with just a cloth and a stick: how could it hope to beat it? Why, it couldn’t even- No, it could see! The tembo stopped, staring into the prey’s weird blue eyes. It bet they would be a refreshing treat. It set itself into a crouch, hind legs like coiled springs, and leaped into the air, switching out its concealing-field for its deflective one. Archeville at first thought it was a lion on him: it was nearly the size of one, and the same tawny color. But that was not fur, it was a saggy, scaly skin! And no lion had claws that long, or fangs that big, or dimetrodon-like ridges on its back! It went for his neck with its jaws, while the front claws looked to rend the chest, and the rear claws tore at the prey’s soft belly. But the prey surprised it again, using the stick to push it back so it could not land a killing blow! All it managed was to bloody one of its rear claws on the prey’s soft belly.
  22. Really need to get out of here... Okay, best make this look good: a gladiator’s life may be marginally easier than that of a slave, but being a gladiator is as much about how you look, your presence, as it is about combat skill. “” Oghran spat. “” Archeville leaped to his feet, and flashed his best Jack of all Blades-esque smile at Oghran and Vaerhirmana. He quickly looked back to the opened cage, studying every shadow and glimmer of light with a superhumanly keen intellect. There is something in there, but it has some manner of visual distortion field. I can still hear it moving about, though. Will it charge or try to sneak around me? From what I have seen of this world’s brutality, it will likely charge, so I had best get ready. And perhaps some trash-talk, for the audience. He twirled his staff overhead, quickly bringing one end down and setting it to intercept the charging beast. “”
  23. The great arena was directly south of the ziggurat, and was filled with training areas. Archery ranges at one wall were used to both train one’s aim and one’s ability to dodge arrows; Archeville saw one fail at the latter and was quickly carried off to the side, and dumped against a small hut where other injured fighters slumped. The half-giant’s hand on him prevented him from going to their aid, instead leading him where Oghran directed: past a sparring ring surrounded by fire, to a large ten-foot-deep pit, with caged doors at either end, and a retractable wooden ramp along one side. “” Oghran nodded towards a few weapons racks holding wood, bone, and stone weapons, “” Archeville saw Vaerhirmana pale at his words. He looked over the weapons, choosing a simple wooden quarterstaff, then walked back to the ramp and peered in, trying to get a glimpse at the beast. He could make out a low growling coming from one of the cages, but could see nothing from this angle. “ Ogran scowled and glared at Vaerhirmana. “” he growled. She composed herself and simply shrugged, which made him growl again. “” he said as he swung around and swept Archeville’s legs from out under him, sending him tumbling down the ramp! The half-giants quickly drew back the ramp, while one of the cage doors slid open!
  24. As Archeville trudged towards the water station, then trudged towards the ziggurat, T’Kkyl skittered ahead to the brickworks, and took up position next to a mud-mixing trough. The Doktor soon saw Eramas and Herminard; the former waved to him as he was steered towards brick-hauling duty, while Herminard nodded curtly as he resumed his place at his mud trough. Before Archeville took his place at the brick-forming station, a distant but familiar voice filled the air. “” Turning, Archeville saw Vaerhirmana, who was pointing Archeville out to a squat dwarf in piecemeal armor made from assorted giant insect shells and scaly leathers. Three half-giants, in similar armor, stood around them. Two of the half-giants wielded obsidian clubs, the third an obsidian sword, butt he dwarf’s weapon -- a trio of blades strapped to one forearm -- were of gleaming metal. The five approached, the half-giants pushing aside other half-giant guards. The dwarf strode right up to Archeville, glaring with black eyes under a bulging, hairless brow, close enough for Archeville to smell the meat on his breath. “” “” Archeville replied plainly. “” The dwarf snorted again, and looked back to Vaerhirmana. “” “” she replied, speaking sweetly but staring daggers at him. She broke off her stare to glance around the area -- somewhat nervously, Archeville noted -- then glanced over at one of their half-giant guards, and he gave a small bag to one of the brickyard’s half-giant guards. “” Archeville began to protest, but a glare from Oghran lead him to think silence was the better option. “” Oghran grunted, “” One of his half-giants reached over and grasped Archeville’s arm an pulled him away form the brickmaking station, and marched him out of the slave’s area. “” Herminard called out. “”
  25. The bloated crimson sun swelled over the horizon too soon, replacing the chill of night with rapidly rising temperatures. Archeville awoke to the shouts of overseers and moans of mistreated slaves, but it was the sight of T’Kkyl staring down at him that startled him the most. The Doktor quickly rose, and looked for but found no sign of Eramas. “ The mantis-man cocked his head, “” “” he replied with an exasperated sigh. Really need to get out of here. But the work pace is so maddening I can barely get a bead on things. I see some of the guards have the metal weapons from my lab coat, but the coat itself, and Screwdriver and Belt, are still missing. I have not yet seen them on any of the Templars in charge; they may have them, and I have just not seen, or they may have passed them on to some higher-up in hopes pf earning favor.
