  1. Not so much no. I'm thinking some mystical entity granted him some powers, but as to who, I'm not entirely sure. My thoughts is that whoever it is, is attempting to turn him into a weapon of sorts. As such, his heroic nature is certainly going to irk them. At some point down the line they'll most likely try to force him down the path of destruction, but hopefully by that time, he has made enough powerful friends in the hero community to drive off the influence of this mysterious 3rd party. I was thinking that Mr. Infamy would be the obvious pick, but not entirely sure how that would play out. Secondly, there would be the Grue. Perhaps its the latest in their schemes to take over Earth, empower a few ordinary people and then bring them into the fold of the group mind, using them as expendable shock troops to weaken Earth's defenses. Omega would have a similar shtick. Lastly, I was thinking that there was some early testing of the DNAscent process done by Labyrinth in Russia back in the Cold War, and Samael was a test subject. The project was thought a failure, but in truth the results have only just begun to surface.
  2. Everything looks good to me, Approved.
  3. After Doc mentioned a glaring issue with Battle Forum in the Ref Cave, I have made a substaintial edit to the character, and shaved quite a few points off the build. Pretty much the same over all, but now buying off the Form will be done much more easily and at my own leisure, so it evens out.
  4. Malice just stood there for a moment, armed crossed with a very happy smile plastered all over his face. Wait for it.... wait for it.... *BBZZZZZZTTTTT* A now quite smoky Captain in flung across the room. Malice pulls out a small little remote and hits a button. "We're waiting for me to turn off the security system so we can safely board the ship." Malice then slowly starts walking to the ship "Coming?" he asks mockingly over his shoulder.
  5. "Well the first one on our list is Attari X-351. You'll find that astronomers suck at naming things. The planet is home to a rather large swath of tropical rain forest. Somewhere in this forest is a particular fruit. It's pulp has certain enzymes which I require. But of course, if it was simple as picking a fruit from a tree, I wouldn't have called you. Where there's plants, there's animals. While the life on this planet isn't sentient, they are quite ferocious. We'll need to keep on our toes."
  6. Alright, so we can get the show on the road sooner, here's the revised version of the plan: Let's see what we got here. Malice is the fastest while still having an attack, and he has the largest AoE effects, so he'll be the one taking on clumps of tough enemies before they get to the rest of the group Vestige is second fastest with the teleportation, and his magic array adds lots of utility, so he'll help out anyone who gets into a bit of trouble, so long as he isn't doing anything too important. Bel, like Vestige, has lots of utility, but is a touch slower, so he'll be given a set task. Captain is just as fast as Bel, but Bel has 3-D movement, and is more or less a melee fighter, he'll be taking care of any close encounter type of missions. Ronin is in the same speed pool as Captain, but lots of skills and utility, making him the perfect man for most any job. Cap and Ronin take out bunker 1, as as soon as their able head to the comm tower and make it go boom. Malice takes out Bunker 3 before proceeding to the hangars and blowing up anything that looks expensive. Bel and Vestige take out bunkers 2 and 4 respectively, and then provide cover for Captain and Ronin in the courtyard by neutralizing the ground forces, using their flight powers to get a bird's eye view of the area, so as they get a better idea of how to effectively splinter the opposing forces. Once those tasks are completed, we storm the building and battle our way to the mainframe, where Malice will hack the system, bringing up the rest of the floor plans so they can figure out where their next objective is, while everyone else holds off the horde. Sound good to everyone?
  7. "All possibilities is not feasible. If my research is correct, the impossible is what they do. However, I've planned for everything I know we're encountering, and I designed my systems to be as adaptable as possible, in preparation for the unforeseen. All right, now that I know for sure everyone is here and willing to go through with the mission. Here's the final version of the plan..."
  8. "Waaay ahead of you." Eric depressed another button and a panel on the wall slid up revealing 2 "suits". The one on the left was the Mantle of Freedom, but without the right arm. The other suit was actually 6 hoops of varying sizes. "Having an empty piece of armor is too much of a liability in space, and I couldn't create a suitable replacement, so guess I'll have to take the aliens on with one hand behind my back. I'm actually quite proud of the suit I designed for you." Eric handed the Captain these 6 hoops. "Where these two on your wrists, these two on your ankles, this one on your waist and this last one around your neck. It will create a nearly invisible force field around you that generates a fully functional life support system. That being said, it affords no other sort of protection. I couldn't get the field to do that without compromising your mobility."
  9. I get the message "working on database" so it's probably something temporary like.
  10. "Heh. You're close. No, unfortunately the compounds I require are not found as something as close as the moon. But on the other hand, that means I get to try out my new toy." Eric moved a few papers around on his desk, looking for something. He found a small remote, and depressed a button. A television screen descended from the ceiling, and revealed an image of a hangar that housed a ship straight out of a Sci-Fi movie. Naturally, it was painted red, white and blue. "Behold, my second greatest creation, my flagship, Manifest Destiny. Now unfortunately, due to certain constraints, its weapons systems are quite minimal. But to compensate, this baby screams. So wadda ya say? Ready to go kick some alien butt? Oh and here's a survial guide. You should look it over."
  11. "That's not true. I needed to see you, I didn't want to see you." said Malice with a smirk. Malice got up and strode around the room towards the octopus tank. "They're absolutely fascinating creatures you know. They can control each of their limbs completely independently of one another, they have 3 hearts, can change their skin color and texture to match that of their environment, and can squeeze through an opening no more than an inch around." He stroked one of the tentacles and it slid back into the water. "I called you down here because, as you know, I've been researching a way to replace my arm. However the chemicals that corroded my arm also had another property. It causes extensive damage to your nerves, which is consequently why I didn't feel any pain when it happened. This is the reason that if my arm were to spontaneously regrow today, I would be completely unable to move it. But there is hope. I have found a way to repair the damage, but the problem is, that several of the compounds are not naturally occuring on earth. We need to go elsewhere to get them."
  12. That's pretty much what I've done. Battle Form is the middle ground of Alternate Form and Boost. Why say: Drain Toughness X Extras: Affects Objects (+1), Range - Ranged (+1) LINKED Damage x Extras: Range - Ranged When you can just say Disintegration X? It just saved me a bit of writing is all. Multiple stages doesn't fit the character concept, and I'll move some points over to Enhanced Con.
  13. How about Variable Descriptor? Also, I find that usually it's cheaper just to but a ton of AP's off a base power than the weapon creation itself, but to each his own. Also, I'd be a bit leery about allowing armor and shields, it seems like it should only be used for summoning weapons. But I might allow a few points here and there, just not your entire toughness coming from it. But that being said, I'm not too familiar with the rules for variable descriptors.
  14. A brick, we needed one Most of everything is real straight forward. Last Stand and Battle Form are both from Mecha and Manga. Yes, his base Constitution is above human maximum. This is due to the fact that I intend to buy off the battle form eventually, or most of it anyways. Freeze Breath is something of my own creation. It's a touch range Cone Snare effect. Modeled after this. Survival's in there because he grew up in Cold War era Russia, therefore he knows how to scrounge for food. Handle Animal is in there because he's always had a knack at connecting with animals, and it's a trait he's honed with his cat Sprinkles (not a name he chose). Also, the IC reason for why he's called Atlas instead of some Russian diety is that nobody except all the nerdy people got the reference and he got tired of trying to explain it. The OOC reason is that Russian uses funny letters that I can't find on my keyboard and I failed that particular knowledge check  Fun Super-Strength facts: Atlas can throw a baseball 250,000,000ft, a car 100,000ft, and a tank 2,500 feet.
  15. Players Name: Geez3r Power Level: 14 (213/213PP) Trade-Offs: -5 Attack / +5 Damage, -5 Defense / +5 Toughness Unspent PP: 0 Progress to Gold: 63/90 (Silver status earned with Tempest) Characters Name: Atlas Alternate Identity: Samael Nitorvich Height: 6ft. Weight: 190 lbs Hair: Brown Eyes: Green Age: 39; August 4, 1972 Description: Samael is a person of average height, and is quite stocky. He is just built solid. He's got that real "working man" look. There's nothing fancy about him, just jeans and a T-Shirt. He keeps his hair cut just a bit longer than a buzz cut. He has a rather prominent jaw line as well. His arms and hands have a few scars from a life of working with his hands. Although not often noticed, his hands are quite a bit bigger than they normally would be for a person of his size. Using his shapeshifting, Atlas can assume a wide variety of forms and shapes. He however tends to always be a stockier version of whatever he happens to be transforming into. He has outfitted himself with a blue, gold and white costume, marking the first time he has every truly worn one. When on patrol, he tends to keep his red skin as a reminder of who he is, but he rarely takes the form people most commonly associate with him. History: Samael is of Russian decent. His parents were part of the cultural enrichment program, meaning they were sent away and never seen again. With that sort of up bringing, he learned quickly to keep his head down, work hard, don't say anything and most importantly of all, volunteer for nothing. Although he disliked the regime, he was wise enough to keep his opinions to himself. When the government crumbled, Samael got out of Russia. He spent a few years bouncing around Europe doing odd jobs here and there and eventually scrounged up enough cash to journey to America. While it wasn't everything he had hoped for, it was still a step up from where he had been. Unfortunately, all he had to his name was a single suitcase full worth of clothes and a few bills. So he settled in the Fens district in Freedom City, it being about the only place he could afford. He landed a job working at a local deli. It was boring work, but it paid the bills and kept him fed. But there was one thing that bothered him. From his upbringing, the idea that everyone works together to advance the whole was ingrained in his head. He couldn't tolerate people who would steal or try to cheat the system. These criminals and thugs thought they had it tough; they didn't know the meaning of the word. No matter how bad it was, Samael had never considered turning against the law. If you worked real hard, things would get better. America was the land of opportunity, he just had to help these thugs get back on the straight and narrow. He dedicated himself to protecting his own little section of the street, and for a while, it worked. But then the local gangs decided to teach this guy a lesson. Samael could take on 2 or 3 guys, if he caught them by surprise, but when they caught him by surprise, well... it wasn't pretty. As the life left his body... something reached out to him. He rose from the ground, to face his assailants, now something entirely different. With his new found gifts, Samael is expanding his territory, protecting more and more of the city. Personality & Motivation: Although he looks a bit scary, Samael is a really good guy. He's dutiful, loyal and very determined. He favors the tough love approach. He loathes criminals and those that would cheat the system. He believes that they all have good in them and can succeed if only they had the chance. Samael intends to give them that chance. He's got a bit of a dry sense of humor, and is usually a man of few words. The tough guy exterior quickly melts when he's around animals, especially his cat Sprinkles. Since the Invasion, Atlas has stayed out of the lime light, trying to get a handle on things from his own perspective first. But that is changing as Atlas continues his journey of self discovery and acceptance. He is slowly but surely trying to become more of a "face" in the public eye. Powers & Tactics: As a Grue-human hybrid, Atlas is far more formidable than the average human. However, as he was created for a singular purpose, his Shapeshifting is more limited than that of a Grue warrior. In all forms, Atlas possess immense strength and durability. He can only use his Shapeshifting ability to increase his natural talents, he can't make himself worse in any regard. He also possess a small degree of mental prowess. The strength of his mental powers increases geometrically the closer he is to his target. Complications: Responsibility: Upholding the law, protecting his stretch of the city, Sprinkles (his cat) The Grue Invasion - It's been revealed that Atlas was a Grue/human hybrid created by the Grue as a bioweapon for the destruction of Earth. He got better. Public relations did not. Have you been working out? - All of Atlas' forms tend to be stocky and well muscled versions of what he's copying, so when he tries to impersonate someone it looks like they've been hitting the gym recently, which can ruin the disguise to those that know the target. 16. Oh quote, it's so very fun putting the fear of god into you. Don't think it as a single fight however. It's meant to be much like a video game, as I've said numerous times. There will be periods of extreme action, followed by a period of slower paced action, assuming of course the situation is handled properly. Once you've got your character all set up, post in IC to "announce" your presence and we can make a tweak or two to the plan. Ultimately however, I aim to end the planning stage quickly so we can get into the action.

    Mecha Manga

*AHEM* Basically, if it's an anime -only trope, don't bring it here. If it could work with something from Western comics, give it a shot.
  18. Malice also takes a 10 on his inventing checks creating a 14 points device (56.5 hours). It also takes Bel 60 hours on his device (you forgot to include the time for drawing up the plans). Malice's Device: Device 3 (Hard to Lose; 15pp) PF: Indestructible Regeneration 15 Bruised - No Action Injured - No Action Staggered - No Action Yep. Reflex saves, they're a $%@&.
  19. Yes and no. We've only got floor plans for the top couple of floors, one of the other reasons we intend to hack into the system is to get a better floor plan. We do know that there are a wide array of high obstacles in our way; something to nullify electronics would be quite useful. I'm pretty much going to be using every single insidious trap I've ever seen in a video game; if you think it can show up, it will. Yep 1 invention per customer.
  20. Yes you can infact use ritualist and inventor. However, let's not get too crazy. You can add PF's to a pre-existing power. So long as none of those PF's is Alternate Power.
  21. Make the objective of our mission completely unattainable.
  22. Malice turns his head very slowly to Captain Knievel. He then points at his face. "See this? This right here is my face." He then holds up his right hand, opened wide. "See this? This right here is my hand. Specifically, this is my palm." Malice then turns very slowly towards his right hand. "Watch this part real carefully now. You paying attention? Good. Alright now watch." *Facepalm* "We want to destroy the bunkers. Specifically, the generators inside of the bunkers. Specifically, the generators powering the force fields. Specifically, the force fields that PREVENT US FROM GETTING ANYWHERE NEAR THE BUILDING!!!" Malice let's his voice finish echoeing off the walls before continuing. "We take out the fields and make sure they're not coming back on any time soon, if that means leaving a bit smoking crater in the ground, then so be it. Once the fields are down, we run as fast as we can to the base. You and Ronin take out the communications tower here, with extreme prejudice. If they manage to restore communications at any point during this mission, we're done for. I repeat: Make sure nothing is salvageable. If you're not sure, blow it up again. While you two are doing that, I'll be heading towards the hangar bays. I'll be doing my best to destroy as many choppers, tanks and mechs as I can before they get off the ground. If they get operational while we haven't gained access to the compound yet, we'll be in for a hell of a fight. So that means you'll have to take care of the ground troops yourselves, along with any vehicles they've already got off the ground. Are we clear this time?"
  23. "About time you showed up, I was beginning to wonder if you had chickened out. Yeah, according to my intel, there's less than 10 people stationed in each bunker, a real token force. At least two are scientists without much combat know-how; there's only there to keep the generators up. Unfortunately, these people are careful. If the output of any of the generators so much as wiggles, the whole base is put on full alert. There's really not much we can do about that. We just have to hit them hard and fast enough that they can't muster all of their forces quickly enough. If they get up and running, we're screwed. Every military officer stationed there is an elite soldier, the very best of the best, and then they've got technology probably a few decades more advances than normal people. So here's how we'll hit it. We'll leave bunker 1 for last as it's the closest to our desired point of entry. I'll take number 3 as it's the furthest away, and I'm faster than either of you. Captain, you take bunker 4, and Ronin, you take bunker 2. Use a much or as little finesse as you want, so long as the generators cease functioning 1 minute after you make contact. Once you've destroyed your bunker, head to bunker 1, and wipe it off the map. That's phase one, any questions so far?"
  24. Malice comes back with a robotic arm which has dozens of concealed weapons inside of it. "Hey guards! Lookie what I got."
  25. *Thumbs up* Don't use this as proof for getting the other refs to sign off on it though. It's just that there's a few thousand enemies here, and we need all the fire power we can muster.
