  1. GM post "Thank you?" said Chris uncertainly. He was unsure if 'trusting people who trusted him' was a compliment or damning with faint praise. "That's fine, I'm not really a 'leader' type of person. And I won't be using company resources for personal products, or breaking any laws which are actually enforced..." Liz trailed off uncertainly. "Ah, US airspace," grinned Chris, staring off wistfully into space. "It's just so... open!" "Yes, that." Liz rolled her eyes. "But beyond that, yeah, that sounds great to me. When should I start?" The ex-villain managed a small smile. "And... thanks for giving me a chance. I... don't get too many of them right now."
  2. Jeni Frey had left her small dorm in the Freedom League housing complex, via a staircase up to the roof. There, she closed her eyes, feeling her shoulder blades melt out and grow slowly outwards into a large bony structure, feather-like scales appearing in mottled patterns until they'd formed an even coverage. She flapped these alien wings hard, lifting her body off into the sky and towards the point she'd been directed towards. Shortly, she arrived to the sight of two brightly costumed men also in the sky. She slowly inclined her head in a gracious nod towards them. "Scholar," she said tersely. "I infer that you two are also here for this operation against this lunatic? Honestly, orbital cannons, what sort of response would such a being expect? Casual indifference?" She looked somewhat bored at the concept, bright green eyes dulling somewhat as she spoke of Phantasmagore.
  3. Sorry, guys, things have been hectic. I'll try not to let it happen again. Move Action: Get out of the damn humvee Free Action: Erect Force Field. Standard Action: Sand is a natural material, right? Utilise her Blast 9 (she has no actions to draw her wand), and fire it at the semi keeping them penned in. I dunno how many range increments, but let's power attack for 2 anyway. It's a DC 26 Blast, and it's only a 12 You're a ****ing inanimate object?
  4. Equinox forced open the door to the Humvee forcefully, looking at both the doctor and a startled looking Hayley who'd been rudely awakened. "Both of you, stay here. Hayley, anyone comes for the doctor... go for the eyes." The little raccoon bounded up onto the vacated seat as her mistress left the vehicle and gave a little raccoon salute. <Aye, ma'am!> The witch slid out into the hot desert air, not especially phased by the combat raging around her. She didn't, however, know what exactly she should be focusing on in a warzone. Normally she tended to resort to 'if it moves, blast it', but clearly that wasn't an option here. But it struck her that, in an ambush situation, it might aid them to be able to get out. She, Cannonade, Comrade Frost and Victory would be able to easily survive military-grade equipment and fight the superhumans. The soldiers? Not so much. Flicking her wards up around her casually with one hand, she slowly and languidly traced the other up from the ground to shoulder level, a thin coil of sand rising up as she did so. "Ammothyela!" she snarled, the brief burst of anger and magic sending a spiralling drill of sand rushing up from the ground towards the semi blocking their path.

  9. Dr. Siobhan Drake was uncomfortable in the back on the truck. It was cramped, she couldn't smoke, her big coat was not suited for this weather in the slightest, and her familiar was lying between her feet, flat on her back and snoring in a strange chittery manner, legs up in the air. And all the soldiers weren't much comfort, either. Or the vampire. "Shouldn't have to be in here too long," she said through clenched teeth, rolling up her sleeve to apply a nicotine patch. She proffered the package to Comrade Frost. "So, uh, Dr al-biruni, I didn't have much chance to read up on what we're transporting. Are you allowed to tell me anything about them? Academic curiosity." She managed a smile smile. She'd only just got her doctorate, and was unsure how much academic curiosity she was entitled to yet.
  10. GM Post "Ah," nodded Liz at Mara's comment about explosions. She was very familiar with those. Her eyebrows weren't 100% real. "I was worried for a second that I just didn't see the solution. That makes sense." She pored over the second set of schematics. "Right, this looks like a more effective means of nuclear shielding." She picked up the stylus and tapped it across a few places. "Conveniently, I'm quite good at that. Force fields are a good idea, it means you're not having any stray particles managing to phase through, buuuut..." The ex-villain crossed out a couple of lines in the design. "You've got unavoidable seams. Which means you can't build this as plates, you need to do it clinker." She scored a handful of wavy lines atop the schematic. "That means any gaps are covered by a secondary layer, should reduce any bleed-through by, oh, about 70-80%"

  12. "That's..." Jeni blinked at the cavalcade of chronologically conveyed corpses. "That's impossible. That's a temporal paradox. The same individual's death, within one timeframe, simply cannot be done, the timeline'd fracture or revise itself so only one of the deaths would be true." She frowned down at the oldest body. From what she'd read of Earth history, this man had been an absolute monster. "I'd need analytic instruments to be sure, but I'd hazard these aren't all from this timeline. Someone's taken them from others and brought them across to ours." She looked across at the two men who'd also been brought in to consult. "Or, for an alternate explanation, perhaps they simply altered bodies genetically to be Hitler."

  14. GM Post Liz blinked slowly at Mara's... non-reaction to the news. She glanced back at Chris, who just smiled and shrugged, leaning back against the wall and closing his eyes. "Um... OK." She slowly moved over to the projections of the two projects, and cast an eye over the first one. She frowned and scribbled down a few algorithms, running them through the software. She made a few hurried notes, then drew a couple of lines on the diagram. "I don't know if I'm reading this diagram right or not... but from the looks of it..." She crossed out a few numbers, and substituted new ones, frowning again. "I'm not sure this can be salvaged without scrapping it altogether. The power output seems to be sufficient, but the way it's constructed, it'd run through heeeeeree..." The reformed villain circled a couple of points on the schematic. "Meaning, even if you rewire the specifics, the power still runs through these couplings in such a way that the housing would conduct the current, leading it to go to this point here, which would lead back to the power socket and destabilise it, and sort of, kind of, explode?" She winced and looked back at Mara for confirmation, unsure that 'this is unworkable' was the right answer to give in a job interview.
  15. "Ah." Liz bowed her head for a second. "I... uh..." Chris took a step forward and put a hand on her shoulder. "Do you want me to...?" "No, no," she said, waving a hand. "My idea of fiscal management until a couple of years ago was... shoot, rip the vault doors off and leave with the loot. I was... the supervillain known as Spellbound." "But not anymore." Chris's voice was unusually hard, harder than Erin or Mara had ever heard him speak before. "Not for a good long while." "Listen, Miss Hallomen, I have changed. I don't do that anymore. And that means the straight and narrow, working for a boss. I'm not especially inclined to go be my own boss, simply because of the temptation to do wrong." The young woman spread her hands outwards, palms flat. "And Chris suggested we come to you, because..." "Well, because I actually know you personally, and it'd be easier to work around circumstances if we can be somewhat open about the situation," explained Geckoman, casually, but conveying the notion that 'somewhat open' wasn't going to be leaving that room if he had anything to say about it.
