  1. Eira rolled her eyes at Danica - but didn't actually seem angry at the tortoise girl. In fact she joined Danica in studying the map on the wall, though she did roll her eyes at the discovery that the somewhat-pressed-for-budget AEGIS agents were keeping track of the robot attacks by pushpin in a terrain map of the area. She stared at the map, then then the handwritten list of dates, times, and types of animals, her eyes seeming to unfocus as she stared off at nothing. Danica did have quite a bit to look at. Western diamondback rattlesnakes cast in bronze and silver found out in the mountainous desert; along with little scuttling metallic eared lizards, actually quite a variety of small desert reptiles. The big anomaly seemed to be that robotic crocodile- a big booming marine predator that didn't seem to have any business here in the high desert. Eira stared at the list of sightings, eyes burning as if she was trying to set the paper on fire. Occasionally she stopped to ask Agent Larrikin for more information, such as the exact time (down to the second) when the various sightings had been recorded.
  2. "I want to meet your mother," said Eira suddenly, looking up at the sky overhead. She took off her glasses and then fixed her pale blue gaze on Leroy. "Will we be seeing her on this trip?"
  3. Eira rolled her eyes at Mia and snorted derisively - with some volume. "Over there is Tant Indira, she is a ferocious hunter." She took a moment to adjust the straps of her suit where they lay over her solidly-built shoulders, then walked with Pan to the side of pool where Kimber and the others were waiting. "Tant Kimber," she said with a smile that tugged at the edges of her lips, "this is Pan Barrie, the dimensional exile I was telling you about." She nipped lightly at her yellow-painted lower lip, and went on seriously, "Pan, this is Kimber Storm - she is a ghost." Her voice made it sound like the most exciting thing ever, as she cut a hand through the air like a knife telling an animated tale. "She took me on my first extra-dimensional voyages, to realms of pure terror stalked by a race of murderous giants." She giggled. It was an exaggeration about Jotunheim - but only a little. "It was the best."
  4. Couple of math things to fix - remember those extras you're adding to his Unarmed are just 1PP per rank
  5. "I swore I'd never use this thing..." Ashley pulled a black steel rod from her belt and shoved it into an opening in one of her grenades, leaning close to Judy to say "Judy! You need to run! Now!" She dropped her helmet again and looked at her. "I'll find you on the other side! I promise!" And with one last look back, and an embrace of her sister, Daystar fled like a shooting star, running down into the cave. Looking back, Ashley activated the fuel cells inside her grenade, powering - A few years ago Copycat slipped the control rod in her pocket. "Coming!" she said as she slipped away from the Zero Zone projector, able to tell that her tarrying had annoyed the hell out of her mentor - good! Teach Raven to take her to this boring temple to a dead man... "Hey, Superior!" called Ashley as the Nazi demigod got closer. "I've got something for you! You're not gonna like it!" She pressed a button and felt the grenade warm in her grip, so hot it was almost burning her through her glove. "But you'd better get used to it!" She threw the grenade back behind Superior, where it detonated with a choking roar and abruptly transformed itself into a whirling vortex of energy! She could tell from looking that the gateway was incomplete but she could see it pulling at the rogue Ultiman even so, trying to drag him backwards to his premature destiny.
  6. Doktor'd! Chelone: 9PP Enhanced Feat 1 (Ultimate Toughness, shell, Extra: Affects Only Others, Range [Perception] 3, PF: Luck) [5PP] Add 4PP to her Tortoise Power Array. It should now read Tortoise Power Array 12 (24PP, PFs: Alternate Powers 3) [27PP] BE: Impervious Toughness 0 (Extras: Duration [Continuous], Reflective 1 [all ranged]) {20/24} AP: Damage 10 (spectral turtle bite!, Extra: Penetrating 6 [as DMG 16], PFs: Affects Insubstantial 2, Improved Crit [18-20], Indirect 2, Variable Descriptor 2 [any energy]) {24/24} AP: Impervious Toughness 10 (Extras: Affects Only Others, Duration [Continuous]) {20/24} AP: Create Object 10 (testudo 2.0, Extra: Movable, Flaw: Range [Touch], PFs: Precise, Selective, Subtle) (testudo 2.0) {23/24}
  7. Judy had fallen silent behind Ashley, but as the conversation seemed to turn against Alice she put her hands in front of her and began to speak. "Micah, do you have ears to hear? Do you think she can say this with you? Our Father, who art In Heaven, hallowed be thy Name..." While Judy recited the Lord's Prayer, Ashley lowered the barrel of her pistol without actually putting it away. With deep tension in her shoulders, she said, "They're just kids. It doesn't have to end like this." "...on Earth, as it is in Heaven..." If Judy's voice broke on the last word, she moved on from it quickly.
  8. I will be moving Comrade Frost out there, once I make some edits.
  9. Judy looked directly at Leroy - the latter realizing that the Furion projection in the room had magnified his girlfriend so she could actually look him eye-to-eye. "Leroy, Ah just...Ah just want you to understand that Ah have limits. You _cannot_ just do things that hurt me and expect me not to be angry about them because you're not from around here." She set her back straight and said, "Things are going to be crazy enough when you meet mah parents for the first time. But you told me you made the choice to live in mah world, not in yours. If you want to be with me...you have to start acting like a normal man." - Eira looked at Pan, her pale blue eyes wide, and was silent for a moment. "Your entrance was...spectacular. As always. Nice landing too." She blinked a few times, then turned her head. "Mia!" she called across the way, scowling. "Watch where you teleport next time!" The dripping wet water on her skin didn't seem to bother her at all, despite the relative coolness of the outside air in spring.
  10. Underwater, Eira opened her eyes and saw Pan looking at her. A normal girl's hair would have been floating around her head underwater but Eira's was hanging down behind her back like a doll's. She smiled back at Pan and reached up to take his hands, first, one, then the other, as their faces hovered just a few inches apart. And then Mia teleported under the pool's surface. Eira's mouth opened and she shouted underwater - "Augh!" She caught Pan under the arms, her hands around his waist, - and then realized they were alone underwater again. She looked at Pan, now almost on top of him - and began to count. Underwater, he could see her lips moving. "Three...two...one..." And then she threw him into the air, a casual toss that hurled him some twenty or thirty feet out of the water in a column of rapidly rising Pixie Dust. A moment later there was a distinct thrum in the air as the images of Bluebird closest to the pool rippled from a wash of magnetic energy - and Eira leaped out of the pool too, landing in a triple-point crouch at poolside, both herself and Pan having reached the side opposite Kimber and the students talking to her.
  11. "Do you have-" Eira stopped and seemed to be trying to let the heat out of her voice - if she was, she wasn't doing a very good job. "any idea the number of people who look at a machine intelligence and assume she must be a monster?" She looked up at Lulu with flat blue eyes, the blue so pale it almost vanished against the whites. "And if one is a monster, one can be treated as one, yes? have known since I was small that there are people in this world who would strip my flesh from my bones and take my brain apart and that in most places in this world it would be no more a crime than dismantling a broken computer. So when your friend so confidently predicts that I am a future supervillain..." She looked away. "I have been lucky. But I know that luck can change." She shrugged and said tentatively. "And to answer your question, everyone has their own talents. Adam is stronger than I am, you have mental powers that I lack, etc. Why?"
  12. Angelic and Paradigm entered, the former having reverted once again to her full-metallic appearance once they'd reached the other students. She looked at them with flat, glowing white eyes, then leaned back against the far wall and seemed to be examining her segmented fingertips as she said in a throaty stage whisper, "There are non-Loriod species in many parts of the galaxy, but the gross appearance - limbs, an upright posture, binocular vision - are common on most inhabited worlds. There are theories that the Lor themselves were scattered through the galaxy by a Precursor race, but there is limited scientific data to support this conclusion."
  13. Watchdog is in the unenviable position of it being both her job and personality to sacrifice herself for Daystar but especially these jerks. She'll also prepare the following effect as a stunt off her array (she's normally PL 10 but the PL 12 stunt is allowed) Trip 13 (Zero Zone Bomb, Extra, Knockback, Flaw: Distracting, Range [Touch], PFs: Extended Reach 5, Improved Crit 2, Trip) {21/21} I'll let her suit take the fatigue. (I'm assuming the Feedback flaw will say she gets pulled over the event horizon if she fails the check to hit him) When Superior gets close enough, she's gonna chuck it at him. Feint as a Move Action: DC 25 Attack as a Standard Action, +5 PA: https://orokos.com/roll/792781 = 24 I believe that does hit. OK, if I understand the mechanics directly, I now roll a Trip check using the +5 PA bonus https://orokos.com/roll/792782 = he needs to make a DC 36 Dex check to avoid being blown backwards the full Knockback distance for his size and knockback resistance. Daystar is gonna run down the hole and leave combat.
  14. Eira looked reluctant to join the music at first - her pale face set in a scowl rather than its usual look of bored disinterest, backed up against the wall as if she might flee through it at any moment. But as Astrid rocked on, Eira's foot tapped to the beat - and after a moment or two, she was matching Astrid's music not with any instrument but with sounds from her own body; a hard, electrified beat that sounded vaguely tinny but was nonethless exciting. She bobbed her head and writhed her limbs as she danced to the music, seeming to throw herself into it with gusto.
  15. Bluebird The projected intelligence took Leroy off into a changing room at one side of the pool, where it flickered, shifted, and resolved itself into a semi-translucent image of Leroy's intended bride. "Is this thing-oh!" Judy folded her arms and peered in Leroy's direction. "Can you see me okay?" she asked Leroy. Bluebird 2.0 As the Vanguard members entered, a Bluebird projection declared "Presenting from Vanguard - Dreadnaught, Foreshadow, second of his name, Synapse - and their escort from True North, the mysterious Coyote!" If Bluebird winked at Coyote as he entered, it was a look so fast it was hard to see - maybe just a programming glitch?
  16. Angelic Eira Katastroff was the last of the teens to enter the swimming area, accompanied closely by the spectral figure of Kimber Storm. As she entered the room, she seemed to come alive. The gold of her blue and yellow swimsuit glowed visibly, crackling and shifting like lightning in a bottle, an iridescent illumination matched - even echoed - by her shining lower lip and blue and gold hair, as if girl and suit and makeup and hair were all one bottled storm in a clear Swedish sky. She snapped her fingers and the party's music shifted to a loud Swedish metal band, the same one she'd used to announce herself on the Claremont morning announcements. As the growly-voiced female singer urged her audience to not believe in Heaven or Hell, she walked out to the pool without looking left or right, a vaguely bored expression on her face, and stopped next to Pan. She looked him over and broke out in a smile. "Hi Pan. Nice suit. Watch this!" And then she took a few steps forward and stepped into the deep end of the pool bare feet first as gracefully as a dropped anchor, immediately plunging straight to the bottom.
  17. "Hm." A smile tugged at the edges of Eira's lips as she looked Spethia up and down, keeping a distance from the conversation as she neatly folded her hands behind her back. Then, more seriously, she approached Leroy and said in a throaty whisper. "There are significant subjective visual distortions in this dimension against the Earth-Prime mean. What is the cause of this?"
  18. "I know the color of everyone's eyes." Eira bit her lip and tested the suggestion - evidently something she'd planned for. Baring her midriff - and for that matter lowering her neckline a bit, turned out to be as simple a matter as pulling up on a central seam of her suit, exposing pale skin marked with occasional faint lines around her stomach and back, and folding down part of the suit's top so it seamlessly folded into itself. She studied herself critically, seemed to like what she saw, but then rolled the outfit back down into its more modest shape. "...It does look nice. But I will save that for the next one," she vocalized softly. She glanced at Kimber in the mirror, bit her lip, and added, "Not with so many adult heroes around." She looked at herself in the mirror again, then back at Kimber. "My friends..did not understand my feelings the last time I talked about them. I do not want to make any mistakes, to look...stupid." She smiled at Kimber. "Thank you, tant Kimber." She reached back and extended her hair a bit, then with a moment's thought slipped a nose piercing out of her suit pocket and popped it in her nostril. "Let's go see what they're doing." - Bluebird considered that, then smiled. "Yes, but I may be able to give him some cheer." One of the projections approached Leroy - an intimidating prospect, given that even projected she was a mighty woman over six feet tall, built with great strength in her frame as she leaned close to his ear. "Are you Perihelion? I have an urgent message for you - one that must be delivered privately." In the hallway, a hologram appeared next to Joseph and asked with the discretion of a good butler, "Do you believe they require medical attention?"
  19. "I do not have a crush," Eira said firmly, crossing her arms over her chest. She looked irritated for a moment, but Kimber knew from experience it was hard to be mad at her for too long. "He is not evil, though he did help me with the...trouble." She smiled, her teeth white behind her blue-yellow lips. "We like the same kind of music, too. It's, ah, Pan, the one with the red hair and the green eyes. He is a dimensional exile from a plane aligned with Prime literature, so there must be a fascinating psionic resonance between his homeworld and ours. He is capable of some impressive magical feats such as flight and illusions, though it seems to be more an innate property of his being rather than a skill he has learned."
  20. "Oh, well, it is a large...professional opportunity..." Eira had never lied very well and as color rose to her artificial cheeks (an autonomic, built-in reflex given that what passed for her blood was definitely not red) it was clear she hadn't learned how to do so at Claremont. "Listen, I did not want you to get the...wrong idea," she said carefully as she began smoothing her hair back, the magnetic fibers clinging to each other in a way that made styling easier. "But I have...you know, made friends at the school. It was not as bad as I thought it would be," she admitted. "And one of them is a boy who is going to the junior prom with me. Not as one does romantically, just as friends," she insisted, "but just for fun, just because we are friends. So it is a date, but only in the technical sense, just because English has no words for a boy and a girl who are friends going out together for fun, because it is a language built out of many wars on top of each other rather than any reason," she finished. "And anyway, he...he always looks very good," she admitted, "and I want to make sure I look good too. So we will match." She snapped her fingers, changing color back to Swedish Lightning. "I do like this one," she said, studying herself in the mirror, iridescent blue and yellow in the suit (and in her face and hair) seeming to crackle with barely suppressed energy.
  21. Eira was wearing a one-piece swimsuit, its colorless grey fabric shot through with gleaming silver fibres, her hair wet and wild around her head and colored a distinct shade of grey. The titanium teen definitely did not look like a little girl in the high-leg suit, but truthfully it was nothing a young lady wouldn't wear to the beach and look respectable. Kimber had seen superhero costumes that covered less! "I need fashion advice," she said with a smile on her grey-tinted lips. "Bluebird only really understands Furion fashion." (Or so she claimed, anyway.) "And I want to show you something." She tapped the suit and it abruptly changed color and shape into a dark, clinging costume adorned with bone-white sort-of vaguely occultic symbols that Eira's favorite metal bands liked - but the suit wasn't the only thing that changed! Even as the occult patterns shifted vaguely back and forth, Eira's hair shifted to a deep, almost matte black to match the color of the suit, and so did her painted lips - turning her from slightly undefined to a distinctly Gothic look. "I call this one Night Princess - " She tapped it again, and this time it shifted to a brilliantly iridescent blue and yellow that looked like lightning against a clear blue sky, crackling ever so slightly as Kimber watched. Her lips and hair changed for this one too; a brilliant mixed pattern of blue and yellow. "And this one is Swedish Lightning. Which one do you think is better? I want to-impress the people here." Kimber had known Eira Katastroff since the latter was eight years old. Something was up. - Bluebird, the castle's domestic AI , was standing by the pool and chatting with the Canadian science heroine Verglass - when water splashed right through her slightly translucent blue form, she turned and cheered the high-spirited teen before stepping "across" to Verglass's other side. "Delightful! I have been telling Kimber your nation should encourage more young champions as this one does," she said to Verglass with a satisfied expression on her face. "It has so many benefits!" Across the room, another Bluebird stood near the snack trays - on the other side, one was guarding the music. Another was monitoring the situation inside the guest quarters but knew that most organics preferred their privacy.
  22. March 21, 2020 DuTemps Castle "Kimber!" called Eira from the guest bedroom the Claremont girls were using to change. "I need your advice!" Technically the members of Orange Squad (along with her room-mate and her friend Pan) were here for diplomatic and professional purposes. True North, Canada's super-team, had recently teamed up with the British super-team Vanguard to battle the forces of the Fenian Liberation Army - the fight had been long, been hard, and it was all very interesting if you cared about the history of cross-Atlantic imperialism and the lasting legacy of American and British imperialism. But what was relevant right now was that in the aftermath of the battle in upstate New York, the teams had come to a neutral spot to celebrate, reconnect, and enjoy the hospitality of one of their richest American partners. It was a great opportunity to meet adult heroes from all over Europe and Canada, use the DuTemps pool - the big one, that the Deep One who lived here typically avoided because of its chlorination, get acquainted with the Claremont alums who lived in the castle, get out from under Claremont discipline under the watchful eye of adult heroes, and maybe hit the sound system and eat snacks while they were at it.
  23. Ashley sighed, reaching over to lay her hand against Fa'Rua's. The holographic display tingled a little, enough resistance in the matrix that her fingers didn't actually go through unless she pressed hard. She got Fa'Rua a grateful smile and mouthed 'Thank you' before she pushed away from the bathroom counter. "All right, so it's a vampire club, and vampires are...people too, I guess." It occurred to her that she'd have just shot Lucy in the face if Judy had been with her, but then that was the difference between being off-duty and on-duty. "Okay let's go have some fun." As the group of women left the restroom, she did notice that both the creepy guy Lucy had been talking to and the weird guy who'd been hitting on Mali had disappeared. She glanced around the room, considered her options, and then glanced back at the men's room door. They must have made us. That does seem like the most logical place for them to hide from a group of women. Oh God, if they're hooking up in there, I'm gonna feel like such an asshole. Did vampires even do that with each other? "Hey," she said to Lucy, "looks like our two birds are hiding out. Since you're management, do you think you can check in there?"
