  1. Some forms were signed, both that day and the next when her mother came over, and there were some tears as the two women embraced. The next few weeks were busy ones for the Gutiérrez family, particularly after the national news ran with the story CITIZENSHIP FOR LADY LIBERTY on the front page of its newspapers and the headline of its websites. Though the government kept Monica's true identity off the front pages, what was obviously a massaged version of her story was soon everywhere. It was all very patriotic - the heroic mother and her daughter who had come to America seeking freedom, the former working hard for long hours to support her family, the latter finding new power and identity as Lady Liberty as a teenager. What could be more American than that? (Not a single statement from the government mentioned that she hadn't always lived as a girl. Not a single statement from the government touched on all the illegal immigrants whose daughters weren't Lady Liberty, either.) This was obviously the start of a rollout that had been planned for some time - soon there were websites offering free downloads of Lady Liberty's image, a public-domain children's book, and so much more! Her phone was ringing often now - Johnson with advice and new plans, Callie Summers with advice and hard questions about whether or not she'd signed any legal forms, and though it was clear her secret was being kept, it was clear a whole lot of things were happening at once...
  2. "That's right," said Mark, even though it didn't look like he entirely believed it. He studied his son, obviously fighting back tears. "You be good buddy!" he called to Ritchie, who was now sitting down on the bear with a look of triumph on his face. "I love you!" "Love you," agreed Ritchie, who seemed to be having much less separation anxiety than his father. "Bye-bye!" He waved, then waved at Nina. "Bye-bye!" "Ilá al-liqā," Nina responded to her son with a grin and a wave. "In your hands, I'm sure the problem will be solved. You know Mark and I trust you. Let us know if his powers flare up, speaking of which," she said, "the AEON doctor said he's quite the little battery these days." And with that, and a few last words, Mark and Nina were off - leaving Alex and Mike alone with the baby demigod. "Treat?" asked Ritchie, looking up guilelessly at his hosts.
  3. A litany of obscenities born of fear flashed in Wadjet's mind as she confronted Strix - but she'd come this far already. "Taking care of business." She swaggered into the office and put one foot up on an empty chair and reminded herself that she belonged anywhere that she could put herself, even if part of her still wanted to run out the door and burn the place down while she went. What the hell, I got church stuff. We're gonna go down, we're gonna go down. "Which somebody needs to start doing. So what the Hell's going on?"
  4. Okay, folks, I'll take a poll, do we want peaceful resolution (with more posts) or combat (with more posts). Either way we don't have too much longer to go!
  5. The moment he had disentangled himself from the vines that sought to throttle him, Comrade Frost disappeared in a puff of freezing white mist that whipped about on the stage for a moment before reforming behind Tom Cyprus. Frost actually had tangled with the American supervillain before, back in the days when it turned out he was just a rampaging monster and not someone who could be persuaded to destroy certain capitalist industrialist facilities for the right price. "Remember me?" he asked, laying a hand on Cyprus's back and reaching within to find...nothing at all. Well damn and blast! he thought irritably. "Don't hold back!" he called to his allies. "He is more than he was!" Not that you need to be told _that_, he thought.
  6. Thought so - and I like it! You could even make that a complication. APPROVED
  7. Wadjet hissed something rude in the language her mother used to curse particularly obnoxious boyfriends at the retreating zombie's back, then turned to her...zombie rescuer. What the hell....She studied him inside her helmet and gave a long, deep sigh. "Madre de Dios, this place! Yeah, I'm Wadjet, the Lady's goddamn Serpent." She considered a moment, then strapped her gun up behind her and shook the new zombie's hand. This is why I wear gloves, anyway. "She's with the kid she rescued from the vampires." She considered that a moment as she followed Dead Head further inside the place, then said, "Listen, I know one vampire besides Strix, and I've fought a hell of a lot of mummies with some ideas, but zombies and ghosts aren't my usual thing. So what the hell is going on with all this, and whatever the Hell is happening out there?"
  8. I'll hold off on posting IC till Strix or Dead Head can intervene - so feel free to tag there, folks!
  9. Thank you, but again, Autofire 2 is not allowed under our house rules - you are limited to one rank of Autofire.
  10. Interesting! Is he supposed to have no single-target attacks?
  11. On September 4, the city will be invaded by a giant zombie crocodile. PL 14 and built out heavily, I think, to give four-six PL 10 PCs a fight.
  12. Ugggh, thought Fast-Forward. He was fairly sure that the first Archer would have just stayed hidden and let him and Corona bluff about the sniper ready to shoot them in the back of the head, but there was no reason to give the kid grief when he was obviously working his heart out here. Guess he really _is_ an Archer! he thought, never having had a high opinion of the other Bowmen of Freedom City. "Compound P, huh?" He studied the weapon handed them by Adrian, tossing it back and forth from one hand to the other. "I met the guy who brewed up the first batch of this," he added, his voice tight as he remembered the recent death of Parker Psion. Guess nobody cares much about that. Family business is family business. "Well, let's hope your friend hasn't learned any tricks in the last twenty-five years." He didn't comment on the punch in the face or the planned betrayal - neither of them were his call to make. "We'll let you know when it's done."
  13. Yeah well get in line ya penny-ante operators! "Lo, if they seek the Sunhawk, they know where to find her. Come, Wadjet!" declared Lady Horus. "Our city awaits!" And with that, she was gone up in the sky and into the cold of a Wisconsin winter. Wadjet took the opportunity of her mentor's spectacular exit to make her own more clandestine departure.
  14. Free Action: Comrade Frost actives this power in his Icy Body array: AP: Flight 4 (100 MPH/1000FPM, PFs: Move-By Action, Subtle) {10} + Insubstantial 2 (icy fog) {10} {10+10=20/20] Move Action: He flies up directly behind Tom Cyprus - not sure if that'll make him flat-footed! Standard Action: He attacks with BE: Damage 12 (thermovorous touch; Extra: Vampiric) {24/24} http://orokos.com/roll/752488 If a 19 hits, that's a DC 27 Toughness save.
  15. Wadjet stepped inside, smirked - and suddenly the situation changed as she felt invisible fingers seeming to poke and prod their way through her mind. She racked the slide on her gun and pointed it not her host but at the floor at their feet. "Que te jodan, hijo de puta! You bring me Strix right now!" If she'd been daring the zombie at the door to start a fight before, she was promising one now. It wasn't too late to hit her bugout alert to Lady Horus and have her enter through the roof while she was at it. She didn't like being angry and afraid and she knew the best way to handle that was to hurt things until she felt better.
  16. Not for the first time since his father-in-law's final death, Richard thought of Parker Psion. "I don't think you get my meaning, buddy." He closed the book. "I know exactly how people like you think - and if your friend goes rogue, my family pays for it. So I'm here to make sure that doesn't happen." He set the book down and cracked his knuckles, thinking about how he'd have already punched Kombat in the back of the head if this had been even twenty years earlier. "People give their life's blood defending this world and all some people can do is spit in their shadow because of what might happen. I say forget it." He looked Kombat up and down and said, "She'd pull you down with her, too, by the way, so I hope you're gonna do the smart thing and help us take her down."
  17. Notice vs. 20 21
  18. Okay, let's see. Will save DC 15 = 12 Will Save DC 20 (Illusion = 16 Will Save DC 20 (Emotion Control) = 22
  19. Fast-Forward will wait on Corona to say something.
  20. Tou vs 27: http://orokos.com/roll/752144 = 29! I am unbothered.
  21. Richard stood up and paged through the books on Kombat's shelf, moving so fast Corona could hardly see him. By the time he'd sat back down again, no more than a second or two had passed - and the latter was more to give him time to think about what he'd seen rather than reading. He looked rather less cheerful than when they'd come in. "We've got people on her in Freedom but Corona here says you're the best person to talk to about her." He fidgeted briefly, something he hadn't done in years, then stood up to pace. "People have a funny relationship with psychics," he said suddenly. "Even super-people." He had that damn book on fighting psychics in his hand again, and found himself paging through it slowly enough to be visible, his brow furrowing. "You can find somebody's stolen child and make the kidnapper turn himself in, and some asshole will write a goddamn editorial about the ethics of mind control."
