The hunter, for that was clearly what he was, didn't level his weapon at Sandman - but the look he shot his way was decidedly hostile. "...gavno on a stick, are the bloody rangers hiring supers now?" The fellow wasn't shabbily-dressed, exactly, but his gray-and-green outfit was decidedly worn down, and his rifle looked old even to Sandman and Miss Grue's relatively untrained eye. "You gonna give me back my dogs?" The hunter wasn't a young man, but he wasn't old either, somewhere in the weather-beaten middle age that outdoorsmen often get. "Or are you going to just fly me back and lock me up?" - As Facsimile brought the tree down, the tiger in the woods showed itself long enough to leap into the air like the startled cat it was! It scrabbled its way onto the path just long enough for Volcanic and Facsimile to see it clearly. This was no regular tiger; it had managed to stay hidden in the brush despite being an albino. A big, healthy specimen, it bolted away from the fallen tree, and turned to run entirely.

Give me some detective rolls!

Dalekos smiled thinly. "Well, certainly young man, don't let me stand in the way of your investigations. But remember we have other priorities than the mission. Atlantean blood has been spilled here, and Atlantean children taken." He put his hand on Heroditus's shoulder and said, "I'll meet you out here in an hour, hmm? Then you can help your father and I work the tracers that will find us where the children have gone." With that he left Heroditus to his work. The quarters weren't too different from other military-style communities Heroditus was familiar with. He did note that there was considerably less carnage here, no blood patterns on the walls and rather less property damage. It was easy enough to find the rooms where the children had lived, as they'd belonged to the highest-ranking scientists and officers stationed here. These rooms had already been searched and cleared out by Dalekos's men, naturally, leaving only crystal images, quicksilver in their frames, scattered about of families now torn apart. In these rooms - and no sign of their research. He'd have to search the rooms of the lower ranking scientists, and perhaps the barracks of the lower ranking troops, if he wanted to know more...

You guys can both do whatever computer stuff sounds good - there are no real issues to you coming up with whatever solution you like. Go ahead and work together and come up with some really good technobabble, I'll let you know how successful it is. -
"You already have," said his father, high praise indeed under the circumstances. With the soldiers in the lead, father and son headed out into the ruined Atlantean military installation. It was clear from the moment they entered that something apocalyptic had happened here. The bodies of the dead weren't here (they'd all been moved to what had been the station's common room) but the marks of death were everywhere. Everywhere smelled of blood and gore, and it was visible on the walls, floor, and ceiling. Heroditus could even see where the Lemurians had used the blood to write their unholy sigils everywhere, a disturbing pattern of vandalism that continued all the way through the station's central control room. There were again no bodies, but the blood, and the carnage, and the writings in unholy ink told Heroditus a tale as eloquent as flesh. Dalekos looked up at the big arcane sigil overhead and looked disgusted. "You see? Right there - victory, in Lemurian. Well, we'll show them the price of victory. All right, Stylianos, Helena will take you to the, ah, apparatus. As I understand it the actual damage is gross rather than fine; if you can ensure the central mechanism can be repaired, my other crew of scientists can take it from there..." Dalekos scratched his chin thoughtfully, then looked at Heroditus. With the air of a teacher testing a student, Dalekos asked the younger Atlantean. "And you, young Heroditus, where should we proceed next?"

Ref vs. 23: 29 Tou vs 22: 28 Da Chekt tries to bite Facsimile! 32 Okay, well, that's a crit, so that's DC 32 Tou there. -
"The Auxiliary roster will be released once all prospective members have passed all trials," said Frost warmly, following up on Fleur's statement the way a good team-member should. "You want to make sure city has best guardians, no?" He winked at the reporter, aware that this probably counted as needling but not quite able to help himself. More seriously, he added, "I consider myself citizen of world, though of course I remain a proud Russian patriot. Freedom League is not merely American team, it is a team guarded with the sacred responsibility of protecting the world - and so the League will be seeking out the world's finest."

A DC 20 Notice check will let Artificer spot Atli lingering at the watercraft's communication system, a look of decision on his face.
-
There had been some fifty Atlanteans at the facility; forty of those adults, ten of them children between the ages of 3 and 12, about half of those being the children of Dr. Laertes, who'd been in charge of the whole operation. "The facility is one of several in the kingdom engaged in a certain project targeting a particular contagion that has threatened Atlantis for centuries," said Dalekos, choosing his words with care. "Suffice it to say that we had anticipated a Deep One attack, given the facility's nature, but the guards at Project Rebirth were evidently taken by surprise." - Artificer and his father had a ride that a Surfacer would have called about two hours in the company of General Dalekos and his guards. They turned out to be pleasant enough company under the circumstances; Heroditus had the idea they didn't speak much to civilians in their day-to-day lives, and full of stories about wars against Deep Ones, barbarian warlords, and the various perfidious enemies of Atlantis. Their destination was in the euphotic zone along the coast of North America, perhaps only a hundred meters or so down. The facility they sought was built straight into an underwater mountainside, a seamount that jutted out of the Surface entirely well above their heads. The watercraft docked at the exterior hatch, and with a final word Dalekos and his crew began the project of unlocking it. Heroditus's father put his hand on his son's shoulder as the soldiers opened the airlock before them. "Are you sure about this, my son?" - Meanwhile, in Glamazon's apartment up Above, her phone buzzed with a text - the fuzzy number showing her it was coming from an Atlantean system tying into the Surfacer communications network. COME TO (a set of geographic coordinates that were about an hour's swim from Freedom City). ATTACK BY DEEP ONES. OUR SHAME MUST BE (a collection of characters that the Atlantean-to-Surface bridge had thoroughly baffled.)

Richard took his wife's hand, and gave everyone in the room a sharp look. You didn't need to be a mind-reader like Paige to see the surge of defensiveness in his voice and posture. If somebody did object to his wife's family origin, perhaps the most infamous psychics in the history of the United States, he was going to have some words with them before the night was out. "And I've been in that orbit for forty years now, so I know what she's talking about." Both he and Paige only looked about forty, but that was a whole other ball of wax. "We've been in situations like this before. And we know a thing or two about family business." He was quiet for just a moment, then said, "Just to add to what Paige said, with a psychic who's working against you, I recommend playing dirty. Drop tear gas on them, find a way to knock them out, hit them from behind when they're not expecting it. You can deal with the consequences later, when you still have your freedom. I volunteer to be the scapegoat." Paige could see thoughts of her, young, floating in his mind. He smiled thinly at Paige. "You know my mind better than anybody else knows anybody else here, right? and you know the most about stitching up a brain somebody smacked around. It's perfect."

"I meant the-ANUBIS'S HAIRY BALLS!" Anna normally didn't swear like that in costume but talking to kids in trouble stressed her the hell out , and if Bedlam cops thought she was a maniac that only served her purpose. She looked down at the fallen cop and reached down to adjust her back muscles. Well this is really gonna be a trip. She kicked open the front door, then bent down at the knee so she could pick up the policeman. Shooting a glare at the younger officer, she stepped out onto the curb and ran like Hell for the nearest hospital, leaving a golden trail behind her as she went. Once in the emergency room, she kicked open the door, still carrying the bleeding patient and yelled "MORTALS! A VAMPIRE ATE HIS NECK! ATTEND ME!"

Sea Devil offered Facsimile a ride, and then leaped up from ground level to where Corona had landed. She used the jets in her suit to slow her descent; otherwise, carrying the heavy Facsimile she might have fallen straight through the floor. "What is that-" She pointed to the floor in front of them a moment before a great paw ripped through the woodwork, followed shortly by another one. As the heroic trio watched in baffled wonderment, a gigantic cat the size of a city bus erupted from the building's basement at them giving a terrible MEEORAR that ran in their ears like close-by thunder. It was a black cat and yellow-eyed, but somehow fuzzy and undistinct, its colors seeming to run together and shift, even its very outline almost a blur as it climbed up towards the heroes with intent burning in its blue eyes. For the moment, amid all this madness, Aquaria was unable to respond. -

Downstairs, Lady Horus had brushed the dust off her ankh and found that she didn't feel bad about killing the vampire dad at all. Must have taken out Mama first time he got hungry, poor crazy bastard. Never had a chance. She might have taken a vampire to her bed but she knew all too well that there were real, irredeemable monsters out there in the world. She took a moment to pick up the officer's weapon, eject the magazine and bullets, then step on it to to crush it with her sandeled foot - a rapid-fire series of movements she carried out while carrying on a conversation with Strix, and doing other things besides. "The dead man - be he known to you, Strix?" Lady Horus intoned. The words were sympathetic, despite sounding like a Shakespearean actress run through reverb. She was discreet enough not to ask the question any more precisely; the cop was right there after all. Before Strix could answer, she'd gone and returned with his bandages. "I can take him to yon hospital," she offered, "if he can yet be moved."

@Tiffany Korta, you know the Psions are a family of eugenically-minded psychics who have bred some of the most dangerous mentalists of the last seventy years. They've gone quiet in recent years but they're a scary name. It's something that would be held against Paige - outing herself in front of these people must have taken some courage. @RocketLord, you remember the Old Man talking about how Hologram was a runaway from "those crazy #($ing Psions", some sort of psychic cult or something. He didn't want to talk about it in much detail. It's something that would be held against Paige - outing herself in front of these people must have taken some courage.

As Mutt started to describe what was happening below, Lady Horus made a snap decision - hopefully before he said anything that would scar the tyke for life. "Lo, Hound of Legba, guard the boy!" With that she vaulted out the open window and swooped around the house, not quite touching ground as she flew inside the front door. She was fast, as she always was, a blur of gold and white that shone with the awesome power of the Sunhawk incarnate. She didn't stop to ask questions about what was happening or figure out who was doing what, though she did take note of the vampire hero she knew and the unfamiliar whatever the hell that thing was over there. When she saw the man eating the police officer she brought up her ankh and stabbed him in the neck. She put follow-through behind the strike, burying the ankh up to its crossbars in now rapidly-incinerating undead flesh. Her voice rang with nigh-Olympic power through the house as she called out - "I SAY THEE NAY!"

Okay, Lady Horus is going to ask Mutt to stay upstairs and guard the boy - since she doesn't have time to give him sophisticated directions. She'll then fly out the window and through the front door. She'll then stab Javier Delgado with her ankh - who looks like he's flat-footed. I think it's reasonable for her to aim for a decapitation? She's stabbing him with the flat end of the ankh's 'blade', burying it down to the 'handle' that runs through the center. http://orokos.com/roll/747257 = okay,. well, that's a crit. DC 34 Tou save there. Is that okay?

"That was my doing," admitted Johnson as the elevator reached the second floor. "I wanted to keep your business private - unless you chose to make it otherwise." His office turned out to be the only AEGIS office on this floor, a small block of four walls with a flag on one wall, a map of the United States dotted in pins on the other, and a metal desk with a computer that looked to have been the top of the line about ten years earlier. On closer inspection, Monica noticed that the pins on the map all showed points important to her life upon coming to the United States. Sitting behind his desk, Johnson said, "I won't beat around the bush with you, Miss Gutierrez. The federal government is familiar with your work and your life story. We like what we see - and we're prepared to extend Section 42 protections for you and your family." Monica had learned about Section 42 at Claremont; the section of the federal immigration code that expedited the processing and citizenship of foreign-born metahumans who'd immigrated to the United States. "If all goes well, and if you avoid committing anything more serious than a traffic offense, you and your immediate family will have the full protections of American citizenship awarded to you within the next calendar year."

ic Bedlam Burning : The Quiet Place
Avenger Assembled replied to Tiffany Korta's topic in Bedlam City
Wadjet thought about how to deal with this. Her instinct was to fire a smoke bomb into the building, make everyone run outside, and then go in and scope the place out and maybe lift some jewelry or something while she was in there. But the old lady had been on her case lately about making friends, and so with some reluctance she decided to try it. After drawing and cocking her chemical gun, anyway - there was no use in getting herself in trouble if it turned out there were fifty of what's her name in there and they'd all eaten the padre. You never could tell with Bedlam. From the back door she hissed, "Yo! Hickory Dickery Dock, what the #)# are you doing here?"- 25 replies

"No, I have a lung," croaked Aquaria noisily. "But thank you for your concern," she chirped politely. "My space armor is not broken. What is happening to-." It looked like the woman with the firepowers was running into trouble, flying like a corkscrew and shaking so badly she looked blurred to Aquaria's eyes. That can't feel good at all! She hit the side of her armor, snapping the headpiece shut again. The eardrum-rattling vibrations in the air were throwing off Corona's flight, and before she could stop herself she had careened off-course and through the window of a still-standing mansion. As she hit the ceiling of a vacant upstairs room, the purring of the kittens stopped - but she seemed to hear the movement of something beneath her inside the building...
