And so it was that, with an embrace from his mother, Heroditus found himself riding alongside his father, a half-dozen of Atlantis's finest soldiers, and one of its most respected generals. Dalekos had evidently briefed both his father and the troops under his command already, and once inside the high-speed craft he took an interest in Heroditus - notably bringing the young man and his father up to the front of the cabin where they could see the view. They sped through the inhabited areas near the Great Rift quickly, and were soon on their way through the relative quiet of the abyssal plain. "Have you ever seen a Deep One, young Heroditus?" asked Dalekos. "In his schooling," offered his father with a glance at his son. "Things aren't like they were when we were boys." "Mmm. Well, what did they teach you, then?" asked Dalekos curiously.

The force of the vibrations was sufficient to snap open Sea Devil's helmet - revealing within the hideous face of a Deep One! The building they were in was still shaking, rocks and debris falling, its broken structure threatening to collapse all around them. The continued echoing vibrations made it impossible for Sea Devil to make herself understood, but she pointed with her trident at Corona's chest, her sonic-tuned senses alerting her to the source of the noise. -
His mother muttered something about the big ears of little pitchers while his father said, "Ah, you remember the general, good. He has come to consult with us about a...crisis near the western border." Close to where he'd be going for Clare-mont, come to think of it. Dalekos returned the boy's salute with the nod an officer would give, then walked close to Heroditus to clap him on the shoulder. "Atlantean blood has been spilled, and I need your father's eye to catch the beasts that did it. He tells me your eye is as good as his." There was an unspoken question in the general's voice, one that he expressed with a raised eyebrow.

That's actually 23 with the HP, Sho, so you're fine. Aquaria: http://orokos.com/roll/746333 = 21! -
is that so

Down below The argument from below awoke Heroditus, his parents' voices echoing up from the atrium of their house to his second-floor bedroom window. "No, he's too young! You shouldn't take him to a scene of such...carnage!" "He is my right hand, and he needs to know the nature of our foes! Especially with him about to go Above!" The third voice wasn't immediately familiar, and spoke more quietly than either. "Whether you bring the boy or not, we need to go quickly before the spoor is lost. I trust you, Stylianos, and if you trust your son's discretion, that's all the word I need." Peering out his window, Heroditus could make out quite the crowd down below. His mother, his father, and a figure in a general's armor he thought he recognized were standing in the courtyard around the back of a high-speed watercraft that looked to be of military make. The general was accompanied by several soldiers, all of whom were still inside the craft proper. There was enough room for more inside.

ooc Scene: Terrifica and Salvo (OOC)
Avenger Assembled replied to Avenger Assembled's topic in Archives
Well you do have Life Support and Flight so good luck, buddy. (i.e., you'll be able to make your way back in easily enough, assuming Terrifica doesn't lock y'all out) -
https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/KCW9SPG Here's the poll. Make sure you review the Vibora Bay information above before you vote. Vibora Bay: A stormy Southern Gothic metropolis, where the gumbo is as spicy as the music, a tourist mecca with a history at once glorious and terrible. Think Opal City with a soupcon of New Orleans

Okay, let's see some more Reflex saves! Let's call these DC 20. If you make the save, nothing happens as you grab onto something in time to avoid being hurt. If you fail the save, roll DC 20 Toughness as debris hits you on the way out. If you fail the save by 5 or more, roll DC 20 Toughness and give me a second Reflex save to avoid being sucked out into space entirely as you are now clinging to the edge of the door... Don't forget you don't take a -4 penalty here, since it's not an Attack roll or skill check. It is a DC 21 Computers check to close the door, since you need to beat Salvo's initial 'roll. - so you can close it with your IC post, EP. Assuming you make dem Reflex saves. -

Avenger Assembled replied to Avenger Assembled's topic in Sol System
Salvo flipped the switch, overriding the security bypass outside, and the door flew open wide - unleashing a tornado in the room as suddenly everything not tied down was sucked violently out through the open door and into a darkened corridor that was itself as free of debris as if everything in it had abruptly just rushed out into space. As the air thinned the air got colder, fast, as if all the light and life in the world was being sucked out through the door! The two heroes could hear the howling of the room's atmosphere as it was sucked out too, the alarms in the computer room nearly inaudible even as lights frantically flashed a warning about 10 Seconds Until Atmosphere Loss... -

Don't forget the -4 penalty to your attack rolls and skill checks from Zero-G. Everybody give me a DC 10 Fort save to avoid space sickness. EternalPhoenix: The room you are in is in Zero-G! There's debris everywhere, but at least no liquids and the room is armored enough that there are no sparks. You can see evidence of some kind of disaster in the satellite, and distress signals are coming in from all over the place. You can't tell this is sabotage or an attack just yet, but it looks bad - they've really teched the tech in here, and there's risk of the onboard reactors overheating now that they have no place to dump their excess heat. Zeitgeist Blue: Take a bruise! You have the ability to open the door to the outside. If you do open it, I'll post the subsequent effects. You can have an HP if you open it. =D -
Defining the Cities
Avenger Assembled replied to Tiffany Korta's topic in The Lighthouse: Catchphrase!
Freedom City: A shining beacon of hope for the future, a metropolis that's quite literally at the center of the universe. Think Metropolis, Astro City, or Marvel's Manhattan. Via @Ari Emerald City: Where being human is optional, being rich is a must and a techno-futurist haven hides ancient, cataclysmic secrets in the Pacific Northwest fogs. Think Star City or San Francisco Bedlam City: A dying, grimy Rust Belt town with a towering Gothic skyline of crumbling buildings. Think Gotham, or Hub City, or Detroit. Vibora Bay: A stormy Southern Gothic metropolis, where the gumbo is as spicy as the music, a tourist mecca with a history at once glorious and terrible. Think Opal City with a soupcon of New Orleans -
Somewhat apologetically, Frost returned to the transporter room where Facsimile, Volcanic, Sandman, and Miss Grue were waiting. "Ah-hah, Fire and Water, how delightful!" He smiled at the team, then said, "Okay, I cannot follow where you go, is unprofessional. And random selection is necessary to prevent, you know, massive corruption." Leilani could tell Dimitri was a bit harried right now but was still enjoying himself thoroughly. He made a little "think nothing of it" gesture with his hand, then said, "Do you prefer crocodiles or tigers? Need answer so we can beam you down to trial site. First guess will get us there, don't worry."

Summer 2019 Suddenly the door to the conference room opened, and a man entered. Well, depending on your definition thereof. Both Miracle Girl and Fulcrum had heard of the fate of Captain Thunder's son Bolt, the electric speedster and Claremont alum who'd recently been the victim of a horrific attack that had left him permanently transformed into energy now possessing a high-end robot. Bolt hadn't bothered with the kind of android features used by mechanical heroes before him; he had a featureless blue face and metallic body, with long blue cape behind him. "Hello, Miracle Girl, Fulcrum." He cocked his featureless head, then sat down at the head of the table. "Before we start," he said, his modulated voice serious. "I want to let you know that it wasn't my idea to do it this way, and I hope you won't hold it against me. Now!" he added, his voice suddenly light. "Tell me about yourselves."

Here's the OOC! Start off with Reflex saves vs 15 to avoid a bruise, and then start giving me whatever checks you feel are appropriate under the circumstances.

Summer 2019 Suddenly, the station gave a great lurch beneath Terrifica and Salvo's feet, making both women stumble - a moment before suddenly everything in the room rushed up against the ceiling with bone-crushing force, then back down again at equal velocity. There was no glass here in this futuristic station, but there was the sound of crunching metal and plastic as monitors and equipment shattered from the sudden strain of gravity reversed, then restored, then failed! Even an end to the violence didn't bring peace; everything was floating now in the sudden arrival of microgravity, and alarms and a recorded voiceover were clearly blaring "Warning! Systems Failure! Systems Failure! Skinbreach protocol in place!" as red lights lit up around the room's door - which had noisily thunked shut with a sound you didn't need to be a supergenius to recognize as an automatic doorlock. From outside came a distinct rumbling sound.

"You went to space? OMG that's so cool!!!" Judy felt a stab of envy, even as she supposed a Grue refugee wouldn't find the stars particularly attractive. Well maybe I don't have to go out of my way to lie just one time! "What was it like? Did you see any aliens? ?" Having never actually seen one herself, but knowing what she herself was, it was a question with a lot of meaning. "I missed you too. ?"

That got Lulu a and a "Yay!" Feeling absurdly grateful for somebody to talk to who didn't think of her as the President's daughter, Judy went on typing. "I thought nobody else would be awake and I am going stir-crazy." ? " How's your summer?" She set aside her book on Judith, the Caravaggio painting on the back looking up at her with holy gore. There was quite a bit else she wanted to discuss with Lulu, but she knew friends were supposed to stay positive.

The kittens were distinctly warm inside Corona's jacket, and immediately began loudly purring. She could tell they were hungry, but not in immediate distress beyond that. And then suddenly, as if from nowhere, there came a deafening boom and rumble that made all three heroes vibrate down to their very core. The rumble seemed to go on and on, and soon the very walls of the basement were shaking! -
"So many have said," spat Lady Horus, full of righteous fury, "and yet here I am, gone from queen to god!" She grabbed the cultist by the back of the head, keeping her ankh in her free hand. "Didst thou think it funny to make an old woman think she had gone mad? Well thou know nothing of madness!" And with that, in a burst of fury, she smashed the woman's face into the table she'd been balancing on. "Hey vampire," hissed Wadjet at Strix. "You want to do that somewhere else, man? We need all hands on deck here!" Standing next to Dr. Thorne, she looked curiously at the mystic investigator before reaching into her jumpsuit pocket, pulling out a hotel fountain pen, and offering it to Thorne.

Ultimately it comes down to people's interest in trying something new - which is part of why we're having the discussion! No worries about doom and gloom, folks.

"All good things, I hope!" said Richard with a nervous little laugh. "The old man's an all right guy; he was probably my best friend back in the day..." Fast-Forward looked up at Corona's story, his face rapidly escalating from concerned to appalled. "Oh, jeez! That's awful. Hang on, I'll be right back." And with that, he was gone with only the quick sound of running feet behind him.

Late August 2019 Washington, DC Alone in the East Bedroom, Judy clutched the new phone tightly in her fingers before she began typing a message. "Hey Lulu, it's Judy. Are you awake?" She looked past the beeping medical monitor along the left side of her bed to the clock on the wall. Well it was 2AM on a Saturday night, so maybe she was! She settled back on the bed, her comfortable satin pajamas rustling slightly, and set the phone down beside her to wait for a reply. At least she still had her leather-bound birthday present beside her, which she cracked open. "“Now when the evening was come, his servants made haste to depart, and Bagoas shut his tent without, and dismissed the waiters from the presence of his lord; and they went to their beds: for they were all weary, because the feast had been long..."
