Richard pressed the flesh, moving through and shaking hands or slapping backs as necessary, acting a bit like somebody's uncle at the party. He was brought up short by the arrival of the second Archer, though, and found himself locking eyes with the younger man. The first Archer had told his predecessor something about the Clines, Richard and Paige, and how they'd fought FORCE OPS back in the days when the city had been overrun with monsters - how Fast-Forward and Hologram had seemed like relics of a more innocent age, but turned out to be signs of a future to come. Richard knew that there was another Archer coming, but not much beyond that. "That's a proud name you have there, son." I'm not gonna cry. he told himself as he shook Archer's hand. "Nice to finally meet you."

"Good! So much eagerness for adventure. Bravery is an admirable, albeit common, trait among the superhuman." Frost produced from inside his parka a clipboard, giving Volcanic a reassuring wink as he did so. "Okay, they have given me some space. Facsimile and Volcanic, Terrifica and Salvo, Miracle Girl and Fulcrum, Sandman and Miss Grue, you are all in teams. The first two will have Fire, the second two Earth, the next two Air, and the last two Water, okay? Okay." He smiled, walking backwards as the sliding door behind him opened up. "Okay, Fire and Water, you wait here for teleportation - Earth and Air, you follow me." He led the two groups he'd summoned to two different rooms in what appeared to be a mostly unoccupied section of the satellite. Earth (Terrifica and Salvo) were parked near what looked like the facility's computer science laboratory, with the odd scattered coffee cup and active screens suggesting that the staff assigned to this room had just vacated it. "Just wait here," said Frost apologetically, "will be back shortly!" He left them to the room, where what had been high-end monitors a decade earlier showed Terrifica and Salvo what appeared to be conditions inside the satellite. Miracle Girl and Fulcrum wound up in another conference room, this one dominated by an statue of the now-retired Captain Thunder. "This is Thunder Room," said Frost with a little gesture at the themed decor showing Thunder's some forty-odd years of active superheroing. "Mind decor, Ray did enjoy his little jokes." He brushed an etching set into the wall with his sleeve. "Will return shortly!" Meanwhile, Facsimile, Volcanic, Sandman, and Miss Grue were all alone in the teleportation room, with nothing in particular to occupy their attention for a little while.

pl 10 Octoman (PL10) - Grumblefloof (Platinum)
Avenger Assembled replied to Amelia's topic in Archived Characters
It's not a problem - just that if he's PL 10 on the sheet, he should follow PL 10 caps. (You can make him PL 12 if you want, even, but I wouldn't recommend it) APPROVED -
Sea Devil didn't really understand most of what was going on - but that was nothing new. This was big news, and a well-spoken youth was gaining new and arcane power. She put her hands to her mouth and opened it wide - very wide. "HAIL HESHEM'S CHOSEN!" she bellowed with tremendous volume. She then reared back and gave a tremendous ululation, raising her trident high. It seemed some gods besides Heshem approved of Huang's elevation - though what did it mean that Aquaria's did? When she was done, she decided to add helpfully, hands to the side of her mouth again, "I HAVE AN ANNOUNCEMENT. IF ANYONE WANTS TO LEARN LEMURIAN, I CAN TEACH YOU!"

"They were better!" Richard Cline walked in as if summoned, pulling the sunglasses off his face with a practiced smile on. "Hey there Corona," he said, walking up and briefly embracing the younger woman. "I saw your message, so I thought I'd stop by and see how things went today. Paige sends her greetings but she's in a meeting. Don't worry, she's keeping an eye on things." He tapped the side of his head. "Who's your friend?"

ic Bedlam Burning : The Quiet Place
Avenger Assembled replied to Tiffany Korta's topic in Bedlam City
Wadjet took a few breaths and considered just turning around and leaving - or maybe putting a ball of fire into the house as she left. But what the hell, she was no coward, and she had no way of knowing if this situation was actually hostile. Figuring that the two women she'd seen must have been in a gang, she made her way slowly towards the building, staying under cover until she'd reached the back door. It took several minutes, but she figured it was worth the trouble. Once there, she peered in the rear kitchen window, trying to scope the building out before she actually entered.- 25 replies

"I am sorry that happened to you," croaked Aquaria sadly. "The war between the Surface and the Sea has killed many." She adjusted where she rested her weight on her trident, and decided Nicole was not asking what had happened to the people she had known - who of course had been killed and eaten by the cultists who had rampaged through parts of the city in the name of the false champion. It was, after all, what Deep Ones would have done to each other in the event of a war between cities - and a kinder death, to her mind, than what Deep Ones would have gotten from Atlanteans, or _had_ gotten from Surfacers, during the invasion. To change the subject, she chirped, "I have a question about your chair. Do you want to talk about it?" she asked Nicole with guileless gold-black eyes. "Why are you in it?"
-
"Oh believe me I shall, I shall!" said Frost jovially to Terrifica. He made sure to answer questions. "You shall be tested through various trials," Frost told Sandman cordially, "administered today by myself and various people aboard satellite. Do not worry, is nothing like how we did it in People's Heroes. Oh, those were days!" He smiled at the memory, showing teeth. "But there is no need for dwelling on past." For Salvo's benefit, he said with a wave of his hand, "Oh, who knows how computers work these days - spreadsheets? Apps? Feh. You are here because you deserve it, no?" To the others he said, "This is your last chance - there will be no shame if you back out now," he lied, "but if you think this is too great a burden for yourself, you certainly may walk away."
-
Aquaria made a rattling noise in the back of her massive throat, which bulged noticeably with an inhalation and exhalation of air. Aquaria only somewhat resembled the Deep One invaders Nicole had learned about in class - more frog than fish, if they were more fish than frog. "No, I came to Freedom City too late for that. If you suffered from the invasion, I am sorry. They came because there was no other way.." She tapped the side of the armor, watching as it swung shut again. "When Destruction came to the surface last year, it was our gods that answered." She tapped the sign on which they stood with her trident, trying to take pleasure rather than sadness from the moment. I wonder if one of us broke her. Well there was the sadness after all!

Aquaria considered offering helpful advice like encouraging Jessie to talk about how she was a very attractive female who was shaped in the way that Surface-Men liked, but figured Jessie could figure that out on her own as the conversation developed. "You are a good friend too," she croaked from down below. She considered strategy quickly, then (knowing Jessie) figured what would work the best. "I will leave you to talk. I will get the phone in the morning." She decided it was unlikely that she'd get any responses that night. And with that, and a song in her three-chambered heart, she turned and hopped her way back to her bedroom.

Because you deserve better than to only live with me, Aquaria thought. She inhaled deeply, and spoke with the distinct throb of great suppressed emotion in her voice. "I thought it would make you happy, but I should not have lied. I did not know it was him, but then he said who he was. You can tell him it was me and that I fooled you and him and that I am a bad friend," she croaked. "But you should talk to him, or he will wonder what happened to us." She folded her hands together nervously as she looked up at Jessie.

"Well this one you don't have to take," she chirped cheerily, "but I think you will be interested in it!" She scuttled down the hall to Jessie, looking up with her phone clutched now in her front paws. She heard the vibration of the text and said, "Do you remember that website for finding a mate? I made a page on it for me and," she croaked nervously, throat billowing, and said, "I made one for you, too! There is nothing bad in it!" She held up the phone, looking up at Jessie with big, pleading eyes. "I promise I will walk Baxter for a week if you look!"

Oh yes, I love pictures that rotate. I like to use paint to make my art. When she was out of her pool, Aquaria reluctantly patted herself down just enough that she wouldn't drip on the floor outside, then opened her bedroom door and gave a terrifying call. "Jessie! I have a surprise for you!" I have a surprise for you, she texted to Ray with her back right leg.

Aquaria croaked in relief. Whew! He doesn't suspect a thing! She typed back slowly and carefully, dots appearing, disappearing, and reappearing on Ray's screen, especially when Aquaria had to stop to wipe down the front of her phone. The tattoo artist was a good choice. He is very handsome! she remembered, or thought she did, anyway - it was all rather abstract to her. This was going well so far. "I remember you. Your art is good!" She reached behind herself and scratched with her back leg where she'd gotten that tattoo. She paged through her phone and found a picture of Jessie's. Like most of Jessie's she didn't really understand it; it was a picture of trees and flowers, and a charming little brook that looked like a cozy place, with a long tree called a willow dangling down over the water. She'd heard once someone say that there was something strange about the picture but honestly all Surfacer art looked a little strange to her. "Here is an art I did."

"Hi, Ashley!" Judy was telling Ashley brightly in the corner of the small room. "Sorry again if Ah scared you, Ah just...really like it in here!" "We're inside a $(#Ing tortoise shell," commented Ashley out loud as she ran her hand along the side of the wall. "A #($(ing extra-dimensional magic tortoise shell." "Well Ah don't know if Ah would put it in that particular way," said Judy, a little nettled by her sister's tone. "But everything's fine in here. Ah couldn't stay here forever because there's no, you know, reception or anything like that," she added as she curled her fingers through her dark hair, "but it just feels very relaxing."

When the vibration of her message came, Aquaria's's eyes snapped open. Ah-hah! she thought, snatching up her phone with her tongue. Without bothering to get out of the pool where she rested, she raised one hand out of the water - and was briefly torn. Oh, this is for Jessie, not for me - what should I do? She thought about the human movies about romance she'd seen with Jessie, her primary source of information about matters of the four-chambered heart, then decided to type back in slow, deliberate pokes: "Yes. Those smell bad. Do you like art?"

"Ohhh, it is cats." Sea Devil hopped down from the ceiling and landed next to Corona, peering over her shoulder at the mewling infants. "They must hunger." Mammalian babies needed fluid from the bodies of their mothers to survive, but she heard no such creature hereabouts. "You cannot feed them, so we need to find a mother for them. I am a dog person," she confessed. Kittens were all bones and claws, anyway, she remembered - not that she would ever say such a thing out loud around so many Surfacers. -

@Exaccus - the cat feels slightly burned, but not from the outside. Whatever did the burning wasn't fire, but he can't tell more than that - it was somehow something more destructive... -
"Thank you, my fire-goddess." Dimitri's peck on Leilani's cheek was downright chaste, but the look in his eyes bespoke more later. "You are magnificent." He settled back towards the group, clinging firmly to the printed 3 by 5 cards he preferred when public speaking. He was about to speak when Fleur spoke up, and realized she'd raised an excellent point. Hanging back slightly, he said, a little awkwardly, "Well, we have many fine spokespeople." He didn't bother mentioning that he wasn't going to be one of them - nobody needed the talk about liability or being technically just an associate member anyway. He was only technically on this team these days, after all, with his role as leader for the new Auxiliary foremost on his mind. He was dressed formally for the occasion, wearing a brand-new blue parka with his medals pinned to his chest, and was keeping his distance from Fleur so he didn't cause her lovely flowers to wilt. He looked from one face to the other, and added, "Leilani tells me they take it as either Fleur de Joie or Gabriel already."

Claremont Academy, attracting students from all over the United States, the world, and beyond, is home to a wide variety of faith traditions - and naturally one of the largest is the one largest in the United States, the world, and may places beyond. Though Claremont has an in-house chaplain, it also has an active Christian youth group that currently has half-a-dozen members. The youth group (usually just called "The Youth Group" for lack of a better idea, given the theological diversity of its members) tends to do a lot of stuff on-campus. They meet on Saturday afternoons to play board games, organize charity drives, care for the needy, and otherwise do good to their little hearts's content. (They don't proselytize on-campus, but you can see them at the pole.) The youth group tends to do things like organize canned food drives, read books to Nicholson kids at the super pre-K-through-8th-grade, work at the adopt-a-highway program (theirs is a stretch of interstate along the border between Bayview and Port Regal), and typically do the sort of charitable activities that well-meaning high school students in organizations like theirs do across the country. They've had a couple of incidents over the years (it turns out that what we think of as Christianity is not always the same in various dimensions and eras, and occasionally devout people who gain power get the wrong idea about their empowerment - plus one time that time-traveling boy from Puritan Massachusetts actually was the Devil) but generally they have about as much drama as any other group of teenagers. Come join them - tonight they're watching Star Wars, and tomorrow they're going to visit the kids down at the hospital in Lincoln!
