  1. APPROVED - remember, you will need to move the HellQ to its own thread in Freedom City News
  2. Judy flinched behind her smile at the thought of people on Leroy's homeworld cheering on a war against alien corruption, right there in front of the Grue boy, and Ashley saw it, and knew that Judy would never, ever say anything out loud, because she cared about keeping the secret and because she never complained about things Leroy did. She blinked once, twice, then realized what an overprotective big sister would say here. "Stop talking, idiot." It wasn't the longest sentence she'd spoken to Judy's boyfriend, but it certainly had the most heat, and she pinned him with her eyes over her sunglasses as she said it. There was dead silence in the greenhouse for a moment, and then Judy turned and began walking away briskly, her face bright red and the air around her seeming to crackle with barely suppressed energy, the plants that she passed withering slightly. Without a backwards glance, Ashley turned and followed Judy away from the group.
  3. I have what they call a adolescent-onset expression of extraterrestrial DNA, said Judy with pain tinging the edges of her mental voice. My human digestive system has been replaced by a system that absorbs energy from radio waves. I can technically eat solid food but I just puke it up anyway, since there's nowhere for it to go. The doctors are pretty sure my lungs and brain will be the next things to change - but nobody's exactly sure how, on account of nobody's even sure how the DNA got into my family or what the original alien was like. She smiled tightly to herself, then admitted, That's why I can't do as much planning for the future as some of the other girls in our class do. I don't even know what I'm gonna look like by the time I'm twenty.
  4. "Freedom," replied Watchdog flatly, giving Leroy a dead-eyed look with which he was all too familiar. For her part, Ashley regarded this as the best sort of lie - the one that was actually the truth. "Oh, Ashley will be off doing her own thing by then," said Judy with just a little trace of nerves. "Once Ah'm old enough, Ah won't need a watchdog anymore." She beamed firmly at Leroy, still trying to enjoy the fantasy of the two of them floating around in a castle together somewhere. But it was hard, even amid all the fantasy and lies of Claremont, to forget about reality. "When you're done at Claremont, are you still going back to your homeworld?"
  5. She felt Judy smile through the link. Oh that's not so bad! My momma used to fight with my daddy all the time about giving out candy to the neighbor kids on Halloween, she said we should give them toothbrushes and tracts to make sure they got something good out of being out on Halloween, but daddy always said that kids have parents, and you know... She swallowed, a surge of guilt around her thoughts, then went on, I didn't even go trick-or-treating where I was from, with all the problems we had. My favorite holiday was always Thanksgiving, because there was always so much good food at our house.
  6. Sea Devil concentrated on getting the dangling cars back onto the bridge, the engines in her space armor thrumming with force as she lifted and shoved things back where they needed to go. This was rather rough work, she knew, but better to bang the cars up a little than let the Surfacers inside fall down into the river below! Busy as she was, she wasn't in the same position Sgt. Shark was to get a full feel for the scene on the bridge - especially for whatever it was upfront that the front car had hit. There was definitely someone moving around up there - past the rising column of smoke that stank of acrid burning metal and...sulfur?! It was hard to get close, though; he could tell that the frightened people inside the ruined train (those who hadn't already evacuated, anyway) were going to be hard to persuade to move.
  7. Well that's good, said Judy sociably. I know they told us that sex is natural and everything but if you ask me, that sex ed class they have here is just an excuse to talk to people about all kinds of nonsense. You should go exactly as fast with Adam as you want to. She smiled as she sat up in bed, reaching over to her nightstand to get her copy of Aimee Semple McPherson, thinking about Lulu's thoughts. Growing up homeschooled can make things tough, she admitted, especially if your parents don't take you out and socialize with people. I knew people like that from our church growing up, and I don't think it did them any good at all. She smiled. You could always talk to him about that Dungeons and Dragons game of his - he's real nice about letting me come up with stuff for my character.
  8. Sorry for the delay here! Let's see - that Climb will easily get you on top of the bridge, where that Notice will give you something like this: There's the usual 'tells' of a transportation disaster here; the smells of leaking oil, human blood and pain, broken metal and glass, and there is definitely a fire up near the front end of the train. The front end of the train (which is dangling right off the rails) looks stove in by a crater - as if the train hit something immobile while traveling at speed.
  9. At the table with a dish of fish, Aquaria crouched on a stool, keeping her big eyes on the Surfacers as they filled up their plates. They seemed to be taking Jessie's cupcakes with their meals, much to Aquaria's satisfaction. Good! Bonding with the other females with their meals will be good for Jessie. Technically it was supposed to be the male's job to bring the meat to the females, but none of these females had a male mate so they had to catch what they could. She throbbed at her own pun, a noisy croak at the table, then burst out with "Kimber, I wanted to say something!" She took a drink from the very large mug of water in front of her (she preferred rain but would drink tap without complaining) "Daniel Storm is very clever to have raised so many children!" Surfacers tended to obsess over blood when it came to their relations.
  10. Even just bolding and underlining and such where they need to be.
  11. He is not a jerk, thought Judy in the firm tones of someone who'd had this discussion before. He is just foreign, and doesn't always know how things are supposed to be. He's a lot less frustrating once you get to know him. She pulled her fluffy pink pajama top down. He's very sweet to me, and he likes to listen to me talk. He's even nice to Ashley, and you know how some people get around her, she thought loyally. What about you and Adam? Does he have...you know, is he different because of where he came from?
  12. The second post here should go in Freedom City News once the character is approved. Can you fix the formatting of your sheet so it looks like the sample ones? https://www.freedomplaybypost.com/topic/3777-ecalsneergs-improved-archetypes/?do=findComment&comment=113619 like so
  13. Let me know if you'd like to see one of my two Bedlam characters in on it.
  14. APPROVED
  15. Judy had been quiet for a while, holding Leroy's hand, but now she was briefly torn between her friend and her boyfriend. "Ah don't think that's what Leroy was saying," she said firmly. "Ah know pretty well that Leroy doesn't see anything wrong with people who don't want to be a superhero. And I know perfectly well that he doesn't think that about music, because he told me I sang real pretty at choir practice." She couldn't actually remember the metaphor Leroy had used; sometimes she tuned him out when he got especially eloquent. She shot him a reassuring look, then said, "He's just from a place where people with powers fight all the time." Turning to Davyd, she said, "Not everyone at Claremont is growing up to be a superhero; Corinne and Ah sure aren't, and we're not the only ones. Sometimes there's some peer pressure because people think alike so much, but there are lots of different kinds of people here." She smiled at the Ukranian boy as Ashley scowled at nobody in particular. "And you're a shapeshifter, raht? You shouldn't have to worry about cliques anyway."

My inability to persuade others of this fact.
  17. A lot of people say one thing but mean another, thought Judy unhappily. She felt herself twist internally, for just a moment, before she put a smile on her face even as she got back to dressing for bed. She knew that smiling outside could help you smile inside; and that was true, most of the time. Before we came here, I didn't even know there were places like Claremont. I thought superpeople just sort of...popped out of the ground, or something. I guess I never really thought about it. Of course her own origins, her actual origins, were a dangerous enough subject even when guilt wasn't blackly gilding the edges of her thoughts. You know, it's funny, I expected there to be lots of, you know...dating and drugs and stuff when I came here, but you and I are the only two girls I know with a regular boyfriend!
  18. 1. Where is your hero from? Eira was born in the municipality of Sigtuna, Sweden. Sigtuna is a very old town but looks modern when you visit it; though it has an old main street that dates back to the medieval period, most of the city is a prosperous middle-class suburb of Stockholm close to the international airport. 2. How would your hero physically describe him/herself? Is this different from how others would? Eira's physical description of herself would be a fairly dry recitation of her height, weight, hair color and eye color, and followed up by a question about whether or not that makes her a person of value. Other people might describe her as a somewhat stocky Nordic girl with a cold personality. 3. Does your hero have distinguishing speech characteristics or recurring mannerisms? Eira speaks English with a distinct Swedish accent, though not enough to render her words incomprehensible. She cracks her knuckles before she goes into battle. When sitting still, she sits perfectly still, with hardly a twitch or fidget, though autonomic systems do maintain fictions like breathing. 4. What is your hero's motivation? Eira has a strong sense of noblesse oblige - her family's wealth and her own cybernetic preservation has given her a strong desire to help the less fortunate. She unfortunately is rather impatient with people who don't share her work ethic. 5. What are your hero's greatest strengths and weaknesses? Intelligence is the answer to both - depending on what kind of intelligence you're talking about. 6. What does your hero love? What does your hero hate? Eira loves science - she hates ignorance. 7. How would you describe your character's mental and emotional state? She's incredibly smart, but her increasingly mixed emotions about her place in the world are messing with her ability to get along with others - in other words, she's a typical teenager. 8. What does your hero fear the most? Public speaking. 9. What is your character's greatest ambition? To change the world in her own image. 10. How does your hero feel about the state of the world and his/her place in it? She thinks the world has moved too slowly - she wants to use her power to make it catch up with her. 11. Does your hero have any prejudices? How does he/she get along with others? Eira does not suffer fools gladly - and thus berates herself vigorously for her own mistakes. She has a tendency to size people up and write them off if they're not what she thinks she wants. 12. Where do your heroes loyalties lie? In what order? Eira is loyal to her family, herself, and her friends - or so she thinks. 13. Does your hero have a lover or partner? How do they feel about the hero now? Eira thinks about that sometimes, but she's only been sixteen for a few weeks. That's a lot to catch up on! 14. Does your hero have a family? What is the relationship there like? Eira's relationship with her parents has grown a bit distant recently, which makes sense given that she's a teenager. She'd still do anything for them if need be, just begrudgingly. 15. How would the people closest to your hero describe him or her? Most of the people close to Eira are adults who have known her most of her life - most of them would say they're proud of who she's grown up to be, even if they hope she's able to find herself better as she becomes a teen. 16. Is your hero a role model? Eira is quite famous as someone who recovered from a deadly illness thanks to high technology - Fantastika Svenska is one of Sweden's most famous teenage heroes. Eira has been raised to this role from birth, and though she doesn't like large groups very much, she does her best to live up to it. 17. How spiritual is your hero? Does your hero follow a religious tradition? Eira regards religion as an excellent way of promoting morality, but is deeply skeptical of the idea of there being one true faith. 18. Is your hero part of a team, or would he/she like to be? Why? As long as they're not idiots, sure, she can use all the friends and allies she needs. 19. How does your hero feel about the place of metahumans and aliens on Earth? Eira is pretty broad-minded about this sort of thing - if anything, she'd like to see metahumans and aliens take a more prominent role in shaping human society. 20. If you could give one piece of advice to your hero, what would it be? You're neither as good or as bad as you think you are - just be yourself.
  19. By now the theater had mostly emptied out, outside of a few people who were taking their sweet time in exiting. Inside her head, Judy was thinking fast, listening to radio broadcasts outside. She was in no hurry to get up. "Well, we could head into the mall and do a little shopping while we're out." There was the mall food court, but that particular wonder was a place she was never going to be able to visit in this life. "Ah think Ah owe you a visit to Claire's, Danica!" she said with a nervous laugh, rising to her feet. - Outside there was quite a commotion when Wail lifted the van - he could hear the sound of falling equipment and bodies, as well as some vigorous cursing. Cigarette Overalls was on his feet by the time Wail had lifted the van, and for a moment the look on his face betrayed not anger, not fear, but a look of deep fatigue - the world-weary look of a man who wanted to be anywhere else. "All right, you got us!" he said, raising his hands. "I'm not gonna try and shoot Wail, who is bulletproof and super-strong, that'd be goddamned ridiculous. Just set them down and we'll turn ourselves in!" - "There was an old mall near the town where Ah grew up," commented Judy, talking quickly and twirling at her hair as she went, following just behind Danica. "But it was all closed by the time Ah could visit it, so it was just this old place where teenagers went to smoke and do their skateboards. This is much nicer!"
  20. A boy got possessed?. There was a time not that long ago when Judy would have thought the words with terror in her mind, but now she just found herself feeling more fatigued than anything else. Well that's fit. I suppose somebody came in and blasted the demon with space powers or something, and nobody thought to tell us that the forces of Hell were bubbling up again right here in Freedom City. She wondered if Ashley had known, and if so why exactly she hadn't been told. She sighed out loud, moving slowly back to her bed so she wouldn't awaken Ashley. Ash really did sleep too lightly, which probably didn't help her mood most of the time. You should come to youth group, she offered. I think the only person I actually got to come with me to that was Leroy, and I don't think he's really interested in what we do besides helping. Sitting on the bed, she raised her legs and began untying her shoes.

  22. Well long story short, I'll wait on @Grumblefloof and @Tiffany Korta then!
  23. Okay, Supercape, make whatever skill rolls you think would be appropriate at this juncture as we start helping rescue victims and figure out the cause of the disaster!
  24. Sgt. Shark responded wordlessly, leaping after Shark and following him into the water, because the sight of his big muscles rippling beneath his rough skin had briefly stolen all the thoughts out of her head. She really wished this disaster had not happened, because now she wanted to mate with him very much, but on the other hand maybe helping him save these Surfacers would get him interested in some friendly play afterwards! The scene at the bridge was one of chaos, that much could be determined from the water below. It looked as though one car in the middle of the train, still fastened at its front and back, was dangling partially over the side of the bridge towards the water below, while smoke was rising from somewhere on the surface of the bridge proper. Aquaria frowned inside her armor, wondering exactly what had caused all this. "I can push back the car," offered Aquaria as she rose out of the water, "can you climb?"
