"Foolish boy!" she boomed in reply, "I am thy ride to the realm of Lady Wadjet and the others of her order! Wilt thou be sensible, or must I carry you on my back like some puling infant?!" Privately Anna was thinking that maybe she should just have shown with the car after all (Lady Horus not being a diplomatic type), but it was a little late to have those kinds of reservations now. With an irritated sigh, she put her ankhs 'away' - the golden weapons seeming to vanish behind her back, and spread her arms in a gesture of non-threateningness. Well, as non-threatening as a demigod could be anyway.

"Fun went out of the picture when my father died," said Ashley, taking a moment to suddenly miss her dad. She was pretty sure he'd approve of using his memory to further an undercover op - but the guilt put an edge in her voice all the same. "All I care about now is keeping Judy safe." She regretted oddly that she couldn't talk to the teen about Vietnamese pop music, or Louisiana cooking, or drinking, or the actual things she did for fun - but none of them really fit Watchdog's character. "She's the one who deserves to have a normal life," she whispered, and that she could whisper with perfect sincerity. "What about you?" she asked lightly. "You got your own gymnastics team or something?"

Chromium felt a faint vibration in the ground - as if something nearby had struck it. And then. "Lo, look upon me!" Lady Horus, Bedlam's most infamous superhero, was tall, though not quite as tall as Chromium himself - wrapped in an Egyptian kilt, her face half-hidden by her helm and mask, surrounded by a glittering golden aura that gave her the appearance of having stepped from the heart of the Sun itself. "I have come to take thee to where you need to go!"

"Yeah!" said Judy, sounding quite pleased with herself. "It's a really cool car. Ashley says it'll even stop a tank. If, um, one shows up, anyway." "Not gonna fight a tank," said Ashley, but her tone was considerably less severe than her usual interactions with the other students - maybe because they were all in the car. "Had to set it up like that," she said to Micah, "not much of the good stuff where we're from." She tried to avoid direct lies around the teens, so instead she let Judy change the subject as they headed for the mall. "So what do you want to get at the mall?" she asked Danica and Micah excitedly. "Ah don't get to go to malls a lot, but Ah had some ideas. Ah was thinking the girls could all hit the fashion stores and get some nice things for ourselves, and Micah, there's a leathercraft store and an outdoor supply store y'all might like." She looked at Danica, considered diplomacy and tact with a politician's daughter's training, then said, "Ah know you don't want to go to the fall dance, but Ah bet we can get you some nice stuff that's just for, um, you!" By this time they were just pulling up to the Patriot Mall, a small open-air mall located near the edge of Lantern Hill proper. Her eyes on the road and on the scene, Ashley stared at the half-full parking lot for a moment, then seemed to nod in satisfaction before executing a quick turn inside. "I already have enough girl stuff," she told her sister with an air of patience, and a toss of her pink-dyed hair. -

Fall 2018 A Sunday evening The secret headquarters of Lady Horus Wadjet had taken Anna's departure to go pick up Chromium as a good occasion to break down her gun and rework its parts, something Nicola knew by now meant the girl didn't want to talk. She usually didn't. She was near the skylight of Old Main, the glass open to allow for Lady Horus's return, the lunch Anna had picked up from Five Guys not quite cooling yet as it sat on a table she'd pushed out for the meeting. "So. You and the old lady," she looked up from her work at Nicola, who Anna had invited over to meet the new guy "and make sure he ain't got no bad intentions." Anna had gone all out for the troubled teen who was about to move in with them, clearing out a space opposite from where Anna and Esperanza's rooms were. "Good for her." Esperanza's hair had grown out a bit since Nicola had first met her, though it was still short enough that it didn't reach the nape of her neck. - Out by the dockyards, Chromium had been asked to wait for his "ride" to Anna and Esperanza's secret headquarters - so here he was, the Sunday evening crowd light enough that even he attracted relatively little notice.

Anna sipped her tea and, when Nicola didn't seem inclined to talk, talked herself. "Bryant was the first man I ever really loved." She smiled fondly. "He was handsome, and generous, and kind - he'd cross a street to put money in a bum's pocket, or give a nickel to a kid just to make 'em smile. He had a lot of nickels too, which was also nice." She grinned. "And he was in the same line of work as me. Back, oh, sixty years ago now, Calendar Girl and Doc Holiday used to tear up the town together. Once I helped him turn the Centurion into a super-baby, and another time he helped me get the girls from the reform school together into a Roller Derby of Crime. You couldn't do half that stuff nowadays, with the science and such, but it was a different time. I really...I really loved him. Most of my other old friends were in jail, my parents were dead, and nobody from my old block would even look at me anymore. He was something special." She waved her hand a little, then went on, "Then I found out I was gonna have a baby. I thought about getting rid of it," she admitted, "but y'know, when I thought about it, it seemed like a good thing, like luck had finally turned my way." Like we were a family. But she wasn't going to say that out loud and spoil the morning conversation. "You want the bishop's newspaper, honey?" she asked. It would be an easy jog to run over there and grab a copy of the Catholic Register for Nicola.

Wait a minute - which one of them is the loser? thought Ashley, a minute before she thought Me if I act like I give a damn. She reminded herself that the social affairs of teenagers weren't actually her business when they didn't touch on one particular teenager in particular. Conversation about tonight's going to be hard enough. She took a moment to imagine her forthcoming Christmas leave, when Judy would be 'going to a refugee retreat' for the holidays. I'm going to wear dresses, and go somewhere where there's alcohol, and hell yes there'll be men. "Mmf." She took a moment to get herself back in the moment, moving closer to where Judy and Leroy had taken seats without actually abandoning her excellent strategic position. "Blood's hard. Even if it's yours."

Should I archive this concept, then, @Gaea?

This sounds promising! Anything that helps new folks like @RocketLord with a thread sounds good to me.

Oh thank God, she's taking the piss! Watchdog's assigned role here was probably to say something dismissive about girly-girl stuff and roll her eyes, Ashley mused, but she wasn't one of the men who had brainstormed the character's typical dialogue - and besides, she had to admit she was enjoying the interaction; even if she couldn't admit it. And the kid did look nice in that dress! "Hmph. Nice trick if you can manage it," she commented seriously. "Lacking the ability to make my own army, I've had to learn to _be_ my own army." she added with that same cool assurance. - "Ah don't know, Leroy..." said Judy, goosebumps rising on her skin at the thought of flying on Dio's back, but she wasn't ready to say no either. It certainly was an exciting prospect, anyway. She looked at the technology around them, the lights of the stars playing on her skin, and smiled in its glow. When the rock music started, she shook her head slightly and said, "Why don't we go sit down somewhere? If you can go get me some punch, that'd be real lovely," she said warmly as they headed back to one of the tables. - When Judy shot her a thumbs-up, Ashley did sigh softly. "I don't suppose you have to worry about one of you deciding to run off and leave the other holding the bag?" she asked Elizabeth, her voice softening just a little.
-
Ashley didn't like Zenith. Letting your powers affect your personality struck her as a rather shabby way of doing things - especially when it was power enough to tear apart steel doors if you really put your mind to it. In a sensible universe, she mused, they'd have put power nullifiers on this one till she got herself sorted out. After all, unlike her ward, she'd never heard that the other girl would start to die if you turned her powers off. Summers is too soft on these kids anyway. She watched the hand come close, her face set in a frown, then moved away before she could actually touch, then smiled. It's a good thing you didn't try and touch Judy, honey, because then I'd have had to knock you on your ass right here in the common room.

Judy looked at Micah - then looked away. "There aren't any snacks in it," she said softly. Ashley's fingers tightened on the steering wheel of the car for just a moment, a faint audible creak of leather as girls and Micah crowded into the backseat. "Don't know whose car it was," she said evenly to the rearview mirror. "Took it with us." Pulled firmly out of her reverie, Judy blinked at Danica uncertainly for a moment, then said, "Well, um, you can't believe everything you see on TV, but...this car does have a lot of cool stuff! W-watch this!" She concentrated for a moment, then smiled as the TV (built into the back of the armored front seat) opened up for them without touching a button. "Ah learned to do that mahself," she said, her Southern accent unusually thick for a moment. "But yeah, it's got wifi, and can get satellite transmissions, and all sorts of other things." Ashley made sure everyone was buckled in, then they headed out into traffic, the car's big engine making a sound as they started that did indeed sound like the growling of a big dog. -
"You can't," said Watchdog, her voice firm as Ashley did her best to project the cool confidence of a sixteen year old who had seen it all. She could tell Elizabeth was smart, and maybe more watchful than some of their friends - but she'd practiced this act in the mirror enough she could almost do it in her sleep now. "The only way is time, and even then, you have to watch your back with most of them. The only reason I know I can trust Judy is because we've been through so much together." She sipped her drink, briefly tracking the Red Lynx with her eyes before returning to the conversation. She was still playing the game; keep Elizabeth from giving a damn about Watchdog without making a scene by alienating her. Unless I'm making her buy it. Ughhhh. "And I wouldn't take her into battle. Outside of here, down in the real world when you're fighting the scum of the streets, the only thing you can trust...is yourself. That's the real world - it's a lot more important than who's wearing the prettiest dress at the fall dance." Her lip curled with contempt at the very idea.
-
It's a fun idea, but the effect you want should be represented by some sort of power array rather than just lots of equipment.

Oh goddamit she thinks Watchdog knows what she's talking about! "Where I'm from, I didn't get to spend a lot of times on dates or hanging out at fancy parties with people, so there's not much I could tell you. Just keep your eyes open, stay in groups with your friends, and if you drink, don't drink much. That's how the bad sh!t gets you." She ticked off points with the fingers on her free hand, giving her advice the way she might have given advice to one of her real sisters. She considered adding but remember, if some sonofabitch tries to get you, it's not your fault, it's his fault for being a sonofabitch but decided Watchdog wouldn't be that thoughtful in her advice. Besides, she was trying to be reassuring here. "Make sure you know who your real friends are - because the ones that aren't will turn on you, just like that." She snapped the fingers of her free hand for emphasis at that point, the better to provide emphasis.

I get what you're going for here, Gaea, but we've considerably relaxed the rules on Equipment - there's no need to make the investment in most of this. Anything mundane you want the character to pull out in a thread, he generally can do it - within reason and as long as the GM says it's okay. And Equipment really should not be a Power Feat - as that defeats the major discount you get for these things by buying them as Equipment. He's also way undercapped for a PL 10; you're not going to have fun with him in most threads.
-
Can you clean up the crazy formatting on his giant array? So that it looks more like the template sheets.
