Hey SC, what do you see as the next step here?

"We have the plan from Midnight," croaked Sea Devil, her face still hidden behind her armored mask. "We will close the door the enemy has opened - and cast out what they have brought down to us." Great is the night where black stars rise, And greater moons circle through the skies, But greater still is Lost Lemuria Aquaria blinked, saw no one else reacting, and tightened her grip on her trident for just a moment. After a moment's hesitation, she strode over to the drinks, rolled up her mask far enough to reveal her gigantic mouth - and tossed down one of the shots. It burned - but she'd known the taste of fire before. "Singularity and I have great power - and I have seen the blue one's might. Together, we can do this"

Lady Horus hadn't lived this long by running head-first into murderholes. She took a long look in a short time and then banked left, coming down so fast she was practically invisible. She touched down in the alley where the group had taken shelter, the bulk of a nearby dumpster blocking them from the view of the police in the alley even as Wadjet's smoke cloud faded. "The shadow-shat thing is lost," she said as she appeared next to the others, her tone briefly sharp with annoyance. "for now. Wadjet!" she called up to the fire escape. "Call the emergency number for the Freedom League and tell them an Omegadrone was sighted here." "Oh mighty Sunlord! The sun be praised for your wisdom!" came a reply from above. "This is not the time for thy japery Wadjet!" "Hey, you're the one that told me that if you can't make a joke in a crisis, you might as well put yer head between yer knees and kiss your ass goodbye!"

"Well well well," said Frost, reappearing on one of the shipping containers with a look of casual ease. He had, as it happened, retrieved his clothes and gear as the conversation went on, and so was now once again assembled. The container itself began visibly icing over as he spoke. "You know, fellow," he commented casually as he removed a heavy, old-fashioned revolver from his coat pocket, "that is fine idea. I propose that us foiling your master, hard and hot enough, will be fine distraction." As he spoke, he began loading the pistol, reaching into his coat for the bullets in various places. "Especially if blame should fall on some other of master's lieutenants." He spun the revolver back together with an audible click. "Tell us information now, and we can help you with problem."

Lady Horus stared after the fleeing drone for a long second, then suddenly was in the air with the sound of a sonic boom. It ain't faster than me, dammit! A few moments later, the duo of heroes still on the ground heard an artificially amplified voice call "Pigs! This way!" before a plastic ball smashed into the ground at their feet, covering them in a sudden cloud of rapidly-spreading artificial smoke; leaving the nearby alley with its overhanging fire escape the best place to get away from the arriving cops - and continue their interrogation. Wadjet kept her perch as she reloaded, listening to Lady Horus overhead as she chased the Omegadrone.

Fixed the math on powers.

Lady Horus hit the creature in the midsection, then at the joints - she wasn't sure how an Omegadrone was put together but blows to the knees and the elbows were generally a good place to start once you'd hit something about the body a few times. She leaped in front of it and hit it again; short, tight jabs that didn't interfere with Arrowhawk's wrestling match. She heard the sizzle as solar energy struck unholy metal, and smelled the stink of burning - well, she didn't want to think about what was burning, but it looked like it was the Omegadrone. Maybe she'd run in 1993, when all hope was gone, but she'd fought these bastards in the 60s and she knew a thing or two about a thing or two. "Strike it down!" she urged the others. "It is a fiend - unholy!" Jesus Christ why does she have to sound like that? thought an annoyed Anna.

"...I did it." Weeping black tears of joy, Tarva took Kimber's hand. "Oh, my poor brave boon, I'm so sorry I made you bleed for me, but I finally did it. After all these years, I finally beat them. I finally won." The room around them seemed to float with shadows, a bit like being on the inside of a mono-colored lava lamp. "Come on. Let's see our brave new world - together."
-
"Honey, everybody's got a gimmick," said Anna with a little shrug. "My old friend from back in the day, he used to wear a big snake on his head, and now he's roomies with a lady who turns into a big cat. You ain't gonna show me nothin' I ain't seen before." She paused, considered that metaphor, "Well, in an operational sense, anyhow." Her eyes followed Nicola's movements, tracing those tattoos all the way back up. "I been around a lot longer than you, and I've been with worse people for worse reasons. I mean, I used to run with people who tried to blow up the Moon or poison the Centurion with radioactive meteorites, so you ain't gonna say anything that'll shock me."

Character Name: Sea Devil Power Level: 12/15 (245/246PP) Trade-Offs: Various Unspent Power Points: 1 In Brief: A Deep One outcast living among Surfacers, gifted with space armor and trying to fight for a better world. Homebase: The DuTemps Building, Freedom City Songs: My Beloved Monster, Eels Fight Song, Rachel Platten Defying Gravity, Wicked Survivor, 2Wei cover Alternate Identity: Aquaria Innsmouth (Aquaria's Deep One name is not pronounceable by Surfacers) Identity: NA Birthplace: An unnamed island in the US Virgin Islands Occupation: Adventurer Affiliations: The DuTemps Building, the Liberty League (associate member), the Esoteric Order of Dagon and Hydra Family: Jessie White, the DuTemps Building, the Liberty League - she has living relatives including adult spawn and their spawn, but Deep Ones do not view these relationships the way Surfacers do. Age: Aquaria is a Deep One female in the prime of life. Gender: Female Height: 5'7"/6'1" in armor Weight: 180 lbs/280 lbs in armor Eyes: Black and gold Hair: None Description: Outside of her armor, Aquaria Innsmouth is clearly no Surfacer. Her bulging black and gold eyes are set much too far apart to be a human's and her nose, flattened almost against her face, is more like a snout. She has no visible ears. Her mouth is big and opens far wider than a human's could - the teeth inside are sharp and serrated like the inside of a shark's mouth. Her skin is mottled green and white, white towards the belly and green towards the black, a dark green the color of certain unnameable seas. Her body is not quite shaped 'right' either - her limbs are too long and jointed like a frog's rather than a normal woman's, her torso too sturdy, and her arms and legs both end in three-fingered 'hands'. Her skin is covered in blue and black tattoos depicting strange and fantastic scenery, looking like something out of a hallucination. Her voice is deep and loud and sounds decidedly peculiar to human ears. She is cold and slick to the touch, like touching the skin of a frog or a smooth-scaled fish. Inside her armor, Sea Devil looks rather different from the typical armored hero - the armor's massive limbs and glowing blue 'fingers' are probably its most striking feature, as are a faint opalescent sheen overlain over the black of the armor itself. That sheen, seeming to glow with all the colors of the rainbow depending on one's perspective when looking at the armor, is instantly recognizable - and all too familiar for space-born heroes - the armor of the villainous terrorist organization the Spectrum Knights. Her head is almost completely invisible inside the armor, though she can make her faceplate go translucent, or even transparent, should she wish. When she speaks while wearing the armor, the digitized booming base of her voice sounds like nothing else. Her trident is about as tall as she is and black, a version of orichalcum favored by the craftsmen of Lemuria. Carved with ancient runes, it looks wrapped all around with grooved edges and curved lines like tentacles rather than the smoother craftsmanship of Atlanteans. When she casts spells with it, the trident glows with a cheerfully impossible black light. History: It's an old story, really - a tribal people, trading with the city folk who lived on the good land, hunting and fishing and singing the songs of their ancestors, at least until the others come - with terrible weapons and sinister intent, they destroyed the tribe's home and chased them away into the darkness. The tribe roamed from spot to spot, settling here and there for a time, until finally finding a home among the people far from the ancient and terrible enemy. Aquaria has lost track of her age. She was an adult, old enough to have mated and spawned, when the tribe found the ancient city, ending their long wandering after the Atlanteans had destroyed their rocky island home during the first flush of her adulthood. She remembers her joy at meeting the Dark Brothers (or so they called the city-dwellers), the glee at learning she would finally gain her true power as a Deep One - before finally she saw the horrific blood sacrifice of the city-dwelling cult of Dagon and Hydra. She fled, in horror - but where could she go, in a sea beset by her enemies, where even her own people were no longer her friends? She picked the Surfacers and began a long, solitary journey up the East Coast of North America - she taught herself to read their language and understand the rudiments of their culture. When she learned of a Deep One attack against a Surfacer city, she headed that way - she'd heard confused stories of a Deep One hybrid leading the invasion forces and wanted to see what had become of it. So she showed her face in Freedom City - and promptly found herself battling superheroes. After all, this was just a few months after Archevil - nobody wanted to take any chances. She nearly died in Blackstone, the air cold and dry, her voice echoing off the walls, alone - until she heard the halting echoes of Lemurian from the Surfacer outside her cell. An early volunteer for Project Freedom, her acclimation to Surface life - to the mistrust, the prejudice, the dry air, the bad food, the aloneness, was hard, but it was better than death. And then things got even better when she met Singularity, aka Jessie White - she'd seen the Surfacer woman in a cell near hers in Blackstone and though they hadn't spoken then, the familiarity was enough to make them roommates at Project Freedom. Aquaria wasn't scared of Jessie's strange moods and desire for solitude - and Jessie didn't mind Aquaria's strange smells and bizarre habits so much. She was the first new member of Aquaria's pod. Now they're free and living in the DuTemps Building, where their pod has grown substantially - even including friends who swim in the Sea of Stars. It's not the same as the world she left behind, but it's a good enough world. She'll be reunited with her Deep One brothers and sisters again - when the stars are right. Personality and Motivation: By Surfacer standards, Aquaria is generally cheerful, talkative, and loud - something that can be intimidating for a frog-mouthed, shark-toothed Deep One! She's aware that friendliness and good cheer are something Surfacers like, so she sometimes plays this up. She's gregarious, being a creature happiest in groups, and always eager to make friends. She nonetheless is _not_ a Surfacer - she is an obligate carnivore who worships strange gods and practices strange rites, and who has a worldview very different than many of her friends. Powers and Tactics: Leaping fresh from the ocean, Aquaria is stronger than a man and faster too - fighting with powerful kicks, bites, and lashes of her gigantic tongue, she really is an oceanic alpha predator. There's a reason why solo Deep Ones can clear out small ships full of humans, or why Deep One tribes hunt whales for sport. She'll strike from concealment or from surprise, and otherwise seek every advantage in a fight. She'll probably take advantage of her superior senses and familiarity with the dark and the water to fight an opponent at night underneath a flooding dock, and the like. In her armor she is all that and space-worthy and flight-capable - and armed with a glowing energy trident about the length of a short sword she can project from the flexible armor's metal. The armor also renders her nigh-bulletproof and really tough. When wielding her trident, she'll try and stab or strike with it, given the cost that comes from using her magic. For that, she'll typically fly right into the middle of a large crowd of enemies. Complications: At the Mountains of Madness: Aquaria would do anything for Jessie White, her best friend. Call of Cthulhu: Aquaria does not like being single - but mating opportunities are sketchy here on the Surface. Dagon: Aquaria is a devotee of the dark gods of the Deep Ones; Dagon and Hydra. The Color Out Of Space: Aquaria's Spectrum Knight Armor doesn't actually seek her death - but it is essentially a Yellow Ring crossed with The Anarchist's Cookbook. The Dunwich Horror: People do not like Deep Ones! The Haunter of the Dark: It's always too bright here, and too dry. The Horror at Red Hook: Aquaria's fellow Deep Ones typically regard her as apostate and traitor. The Shadow Over Innsmouth: Aquaria and Atlanteans have a special beef with each other. Lady Horus is going to use an 18 on a melee attack vs. the Omegadrone, so a total of 24 for a DC 29 Tou save.
-
Wadjet is going to switch to Paralyze, use her 19 and inflict a DC 18 Will save on the Omegadrone.
-
Tick tick tick. Lady Horus erupted out through the crumbling roof, carrying in one arm a sweaty man in overalls, his green shirt stained with water, and in her other arm a blonde woman with a baby wrapped in a turtle blanket. She hit the asphalt on the street hard enough to crack it. She deposited the man on one side, the woman on the other, tucking the latter around herself so she didn't drop the baby. Then she turned and spotted the Omegadrone, right where Wadjet had said it was. Well ain't that the goddamned best. She ran up behind the Omegadrone, ankh glowing with solar energy, and smashed the creature in the back with a boom and a flash of light like the Sun itself entering the fray. "I SAY THEE NAY!" she boomed while thinking, Suck on that you cybernetic son of a bitch! And then time moved again, and Arrowhawk finished picking up her axe and Jette stared at the Omegadrone and Wadjet reloaded, and Lady Horus zipped out of melee range from the Omegadrone, and the bricks started falling again.

Lady Horus frowned. Jeez, this lady talks like some kind of Shakespeare-in-the-Park wackadoo. Does she always talk so artsy-fartsy...or is she just talking like this because she thinks it's how she's supposed to talk to Lady Horus? Of course, that didn't necessarily mean she was playing her false. People in Bedlam tended to get rather nervous when the city's bulletproof divine vigilante broke into their bedrooms first thing in the morning. "Gold doth not make one great," Lady Horus said evenly, "One makes one great." Twirling her ankh, she went on, "Thou hast a ready tongue, Lady Eve, especially under these circumstances." She took a few steps, deliberately crunching on the broken glass under the shattered window. "My work," she added, "You need not worry - if you are innocent. Did Verity serve the Works well? Had she enemies there? Friends?"
-
As the lights dimmed across the building and flowing water abruptly stopped, other things came to life. "Initiating disaster protocols," came Bluebird's voice in that slightly mechanical, calm tone that meant she was feeling nothing of the sort. "All building residents are asked to return to their homes immediately. All non-resident merchants should shut down business and proceed to the nearest Class A mercantile establishment immediately. All building transients, please seek out a Freedom City police officer or one of the red-uniformed building security officers. they will guide you to the nearest emergency center. All building security staff are now on emergency alert. All building police officers are now on STAR alert. Please report to your assigned duty stations as necessary." Inside the castle, Bluebird had other things to say. "Building is now running on internal reserves. Dimensional sensors overwhelmed by high levels of Coil energy. Spatial sensors reading no displacement in local spacetime but significant displacement before radiation overlord. Entropic radiation levels falling from earlier peak. No readings on Freedom City or environs. Building has been displaced from ten meters above highest point to ten meters below lowest point. Reading breathable atmosphere and Earth-normal gravity outside. WHERE IS THE SHADOW WITCH?" Bluebird punctuated the last sentence by appearing in the center of the castle's main hall, glowing brilliantly.
-
Tick tick tick. Lady Horus hadn't always been a god - and she used to be a lot faster. In past times, she could have cleaned this building out in a half a second. Yeah, well, the past is in the past, honey, she reminded herself an instant before she sprang into action and ran up the falling bricks, gathering the dangling man up in one arm and depositing him outside. Back inside the building, she ran up the crumbling stairs and grabbed more people, darting through hallways and kicking down doors, slowed only by the fact that even a god could only carry so many people at one time. But she ran and she ran, faster than a falling object and almost faster than a man could see, and if she was probably going to miss someone, she was sure as hell gonna keep running until there wasn't any more goddamned floor. Because that was what heroes were supposed to do when civilians were in danger, right? Wadjet looked at the Hammer of Justice, no, at the ICE agent, no, at the-Ese puta fucking madre! When she caught sight of the Omegadrone, she acted by reflex, shooting it in the midsection with an acid ball that sizzled against space metal but didn't do a damn thing otherwise. Under normal circumstances, she might have retreated at this juncture but that crazy Viking lady was throwing down with the Omegadrone in the middle of the goddamned street, and if Anna was right the whole damn world was going to end if they let these things through the door. "Dammit old woman!" she hissed into her microphone. "There's an Omegadrone out here!"

ic Hell Is Empty And All The Devils Are Here (IC)
Avenger Assembled posted a topic in The Realms Beyond
July 13, 2018 Midnight Manor Even now, Midnight Manor was one of the safest places in Freedom City. "Sea Devil and Singularity have made contact with Foreshadow. The plan is in motion." Redbird had been more subdued than usual lately - hadn't they all? Even with the evacuations the dead, wounded, and missing in Freedom City were four, maybe five figures; not to mention the heroes, no, the friends they'd lost. "Good." Through his radio link to the Manor, Harrier spoke with the slow, deliberate intonations of a man whose breathing came with difficulty. "Are you prepared?" He'd done his best to help them. They had a map of their destination, a rough sketch of its likely defenses, and more besides - Steve had stayed up all night, multiple nights, dictating to Redbird when Wander and Midnight had been deployed to the action. There was very little else he could do. While the others talked, Mark studied the screens showing the continued carnage of the fight in Freedom City - maybe it was all confined to an isolated few areas this time, maybe this was just touches of Hell on Earth instead of the real thing. He closed his eyes and thought of Nina and Richie, safely away from all this - unless all this spilled out over everything, and took them just like it had taken his friends in the DuTemps Building. When we get back here - I need to fix things.- 16 replies
