Mm, all right. Looking at the backstory, it's ambiguous enough that it's not so much of an issue. Uriel empowering him and doing nothing about the many, many godly sinners of Bedlam is a potential plot point... APPROVED

Hmm! I like this general concept a lot - but I feel weird about a religious character getting powered by his religion, especially when it's one of the big boys. I wonder if he could _believe_ his empowerment comes from the angels, but be taking it on faith? After all, he prayed and there it was.

"Spirits of the waters!" bellowed Aquaria at Temperance, shocked into momentary silence by the shamaness's mighty powers over Water itself. Lacking the time for supplication, she went to work - bounding into the building on all fours, her quadrupedal posture spreading her weight out on the potentially damaged floor. She made her way down the hallways quickly, leaping and racing along far faster than a human could run, her green glowing suit shining brighter as it repelled the still-licking flames all around her. Aquaria didn't have the ability to suppress fire - in fact, she didn't even know what a suppression device was, but what she did have was a very loud voice and the ability to cut her way through any obstacle. "Everyone out!" she bellowed in a bass boom that her suit's speakers amplified all the louder. "Everyone out, there are flames everywhere! If you can hear my voice, run on your arms and legs!" She kept ears and eyes open as she went, doing all she could to find any Surfacers (or anyone else, for that matter) still trapped inside the burning building.

"But what about your-" croaked Sea Devil, sounding genuinely concerned about something before she seemed to change the subject. "I am ready to prove that I am an upstanding member of society," she said out loud, in what sounded like a memorized address. "We will take the people stolen from your dreams and return them to where they belong," she went on, sounding more natural - as natural as a booming electronic croak could sound. "I know things about things not from your reality. I will help." She rested, squatting on the floor on what looked to be powerful lower legs, long arms folded over her abdomen, tri-fingered armored gauntlets, pointed upwards.

Okay, I think we're ready for action?

The alcove fell away - and they were no longer alone. Hel sat on her throne, face cast in half-shadow, braziers of eternal flame rising to either side of her. Talya betrayed no reaction - which told Dimitri this was all in his head. This was not the first time this had happened. She smiled her terrible smile at Frost, the one that was all bone-white teeth on both sides. "Frost. You seem preoccupied." "This is a poor time for a test," said Dimitri, who by his tense posture and tight voice was betraying to Hel that he was not in the mood for a game. "I know those outside are not your work. I would smell it in the air." He had the impression, in the darkness of the stairwell, of eyes watching them - the faint glow that betrayed the restless dead that were Hel's attendants forever and ever and ever. "This is no test, my champion, but a boon. You forget, I know what lies in your heart of hearts." Hel demonstrated by making a gesture in the air and summoning a red, pulsing thing that Dimitri Peshkov knew only too well - the organ that had been torn from his flesh on the day he died. "I see two children, the heirs to the Browning-Espadas future. Scions of power and bravery, the very image of their parents. And I know what shames you in the night." "That-that is many things," said Dimitri, hesitation catching in his voice. "You will have to be more specific-" With a sneer, Hel threw the heart into the fire, summoning up just what she had promised in images in the fire. A boy and a girl and their three parents and manifold siblings and cousins and kin - a proud legacy and an honored name. And...and..."If Talya Browning is your sister by choice, then what are her husband and wife to you? Those who would take your sister from you. You have seen it when you close your eyes. What place will Talya Browning have for you when she is surrounded by your betters? Your ice will melt beneath the flame of their love - and nothing can stand between the love of a mother for her children." "Should I feel regret that the one I love the most has found finer and greater loves than I could give? I am not so monstrous as all that, Lady Hel." Frost rubbed his eyes, feeling a sense of great and terrible fatigue, sitting back on his haunches on the cold stone floor. Despite his best efforts, his eyes fell on that domestic drama playing out amid the flames, again and again. "...I am not a child consumed with jealousy over a new sister, Hel, I-" "YOUR SISTER IS DEAD!" declaimed Hel, the braziers on either side flaring up to terrible life. "Your mother, and your father, and all you have loved are dead and gone! You know this! You have known this since before your sister's lover stirred in his mother's womb! And you know that if this family remains together, the sole remaining star in your sky will turn away - and never again look back as it once did. You play a hero now, Peshkov, but I know you for who you truly are. Not the coward who ran, no longer, but the monster who gave my cold, bloody vengeance to all of the nation who slew him and dared seek to imprison me. I know what lies in your cold, dead heart." "This is rather poor temptation, don't you think?!" demanded Frost of his patroness, rising to his feet in his mind even though he knew intuitively he was still there with Talya, still going about his work with her. "As if Talya would not wonder how the children happened to be born like ice?" He knew immediately it was wrong - he knew immediately that Hel was not so unclever, but the terror he felt at her presence on this terrible day was making him stupid. "Please, Frost, do you think me so uncreative? Perhaps you need a lesson when your task is done." She was suddenly beside him, leaning close to his ear, her breath stinking of death. "You have seen the man and the woman fight. You know their weaknesses against powerful foes. It would be so easy to have Talya rise and find her husband and wife tragically slain defending her children - with only her brother now by her side, forever and forever." Her tongue was against Dimitri's ear, soft and sweet like a lover's. "If you lack the courage, I could do this for you, my champion, because of what you will do for me when Ragnarok comes. You have but to take my name in vain again." And then she was gone. ----------------- Dimitri felt Talya's grip on his wrist slacken as the contraction passed - and realized all had happened within the space of that single instant of pain. "We-we will tell the twins it was tedious hospital birth," said Dimitri with a smile Talya's way. "Full of boring old doctors with terribly cold hands!" As he spoke, he was pulling on a set of rubber gloves. "You have begun your work. I will begin mine."

Across the river in Washington, Citizen floated in mid-air over a half-built urban landscape, his eyes on the security camera footage from the bank. Property crimes were easy - as long as no Terrans were being hurt, you waited until the thieves were far away from civilians before moving in. That kept them from panicking and taking hostages, opening fire on the crowd, or otherwise turning the theft of dollars into the theft of lives. Sharl had learned that lesson back at Claremont. He might have simply let the robbers go - if not for the young heroine he didn't recognize moving towards the scene with familiar intent. Stars above, there are only 300 million people in this nation - why can't they just send all the people with powers to train at Claremont? That was not a helpful thought, though, especially in a city with so few superhumans. Just like Tronik - if Tronik had been bizarrely low and flat, spread out across an ancient river mouth like Eliza's buttered toast.. A few moments after Emerald Spider headed for the getaway driver, Citizen erupted from the brand-new Archetech complex on the north side of the Columbia River and rocketed towards the bank across the river, the electromagnetic engine inside his android body propelling him at close to super-sonic speeds for the moment or two it took to reach the skyline of the other Emerald City. A man in the sky was something new here; but focused on the mission as he was, Citizen didn't even look down as the people below began pointing and taking pictures, his black coat rippling behind him against the blue-grey sky overhead and that small, distant little yellow Sun. -

"'m up for it." The laconic archer didn't seem as bothered by the changeup as the others - though he still returned Nighthawk's nudge with a smile that suggested he was with her all the way anyway. "Real life's always harder'n any test. Though, heh, better not do anything y'wouldn't do in real life or it's counselin' or detention fer sure." He gave Nevermore an odd look, as if he was trying to get inside the other boy's head and finding little success there. Shaking it off, he turned his head back towards the warehouse before commenting, "Let's mix it up a little. You go in 'n do something w' range, use a boomerang or somethin', make 'em think you're the guy who was sniping 'em. Nighthawk can hit him face-to-face. And I'll hang back and shoot anybody who tries to start trouble. You with me?"

Outside in Greenbank, Frost raised his head and looked around the neighborhood with an interested expression. He actually spent little time in the area - which he was vaguely aware was home to several technology-focused superheroes. Industrial near-poverty had never been his favorite flavor of life, even if the poor in America generally lived rather better than their counterparts in Russia. "Well, here we are!" he declared brightly, his tone at odds with the grim conversation in the tunnel. He was keeping a close eye on the situation, mindful of the possibility of ambush, either from Pax or their strange-headed escort. "So, radioactive mice, mercenaries, such a life you face in this place!" He clapped his hands together, then frowned at Pax. "But you have story to tell. Do, tell."

On August 1, 2016, heroes across Freedom City and the world wake up as small felt and velcro puppets! While this transformation lasts only about twenty-four hours, it's a startling one indeed as heroes drop down to the size and consistency of Sesame Street characters (with the occasional marionette) - albeit one with superpowers. It's a chaotic day across Freedom City and other centers of superheroic activity as heroes aren't the only ones transformed - thousands of civilians are altered as well by this strange metamorphosis! While an unlikely team of heroes deals with the father of this crisis (the young demigod Quirk), the heroes of Freedom and beyond have to deal with a crisis that is certainly the strangest in recent memory. Yes, it's a more light-hearted adventure to go with the grimmer story we had back in April - an adventure in the mold of the Angel episode "Smile Time" or of the recent sitewide musical episode. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3zUkT9YAPDY - think this! Assume that superpowered and super-abilitied characters still have their respective powers and abilities, just cast in a puppet mold. A fire controller might throw red and yellow felt balls that work just like regular fire! (Learn towards comedy rather than tragedy here, people - this is supposed to be light-hearted) Think of this as a chance to have fun and build the story of one big, crazy day! The usual vignette rules - and rewards, apply. Make sure to have all vignettes posted by the end of September.

Okay, well, I'm not one to fuss about the House Rules just to stick it to some poor newbie! Go ahead and take the Ful Action Flaw, Ra - though naturally, we'd want to make sure you were really feeling the flaw by making sure you're starting your threads full-sized. -
Sure, sure!

"Soviet language training was in poor condition in my youth - fear of foreigners, you know? They did not even start it until 1932, when I was already college student. I studied English in school as young medical student. Was supplemental course, to assist in translation of English veterinary manuals. After that, was simple enough to develop language over years with much practice. Sometimes a friend, sometimes a foe, ho-ho-ho!" He smiled that 'pat' smile. "Is dictionary of it in Moscow, you know!" he told Klara. "We kept close eye on your linguistic ability." He hmmed, still thinking about Leilani's words. "I speak, ah, English, Russian, some German, schoolboy Latin and Greek, Old Norse, and of course the vampire tongue, which you hear these days mostly in some old Eastern European churches, ooh, very mysterious, I am sure. I know people older than Klara and I who have mastered many more tongues than me, but porheps my mind is simply frozen. I can speak perfectly fine English if necessary," he added, "but seems unnecessary most days."
