I never liked Leadership! The Selective is so he can do things like get shots normally. -
"Ah, as the poet says, the one that burns the hottest is always the first to fall!" Comrade Frost was there to greet her on the beach, the icy Russian looking decidedly out of place against the summery beach in his heavy parka. "Welcome to Jersey Shore, Volcanic!" he said ebulliently, bestowing a winning smile on the lovely heroine-to-be. Being around her certainly was pleasant, even if he was careful to give her no hint about the many reasons that was true. "Haven't seen that one yet, eh? No matter, is not good show. Capitalism at worst. Anyway - how fare things?" he asked her as they walked down the beach together, careful not to take her up towards civilization until she was actually ready to be around people. "I hear wonderful things about you from Gaian Knight."

Frost is going to fly up in mist form from behind (hopefully catching the guy flat-footed) and hit the guy. Dimitri can't imagine that a guy with that many boils has a high Fort save! http://orokos.com/roll/401877 = 31! Oh what the heck, I'll spend the HP for the crit there. That's a DC 27 Fortitude save vs. Paralyze, then.- 40 replies

"I choose you," replied Tarva, returning Kimber's ghost of a smile with her own. The taller woman leaned against Kimber, long hair coiled in a tail down her back, taking advantage of Kimber's new solidity for some very real support. As the light came shining in through the windows outside, Tarva sent shadows chasing up the walls and over the windows, giving them darkness enough for Kimber to remain visible even as the sun rose outside. "I choose you - so we can destroy the nightmares."- 49 replies

"You were being hurt. I couldn't allow that to happen," said Tarva simply. She sat the toy down and spun it, the red and gold top a flash of color against the neutral brown floor in the half-light of morning. Her shadows had withdrawn against her skin, leaving her clad in what looked like a tightly-fitting sweater and jeans made of black cobwebs. Reaching over, she took Kimber's hand, shoving aside the cribs with another so Kimber could join her without having to be half-in and half-out of solid matter. "This place reminds me of the old world. The forest all around, the people and their god. When I saw what they were planning to do, and why they were planning to do it-" She closed her fist. "If you had left me in another world, when you took me from the Terminus, I would be living somewhere like this. Or dead."- 49 replies

Movies and comics about superheroes tend to leave out the cleanup - not just the physical, but the social. With the cult leader and his minions in hand came the Maine state police for the arrests, AEGIS to seize the artifacts that Tarva had tagged as potentially magically threatening, and the state DCFS to take the cult's children in the wake of the aborted mass suicide. The long night was over - in the morning hours, Kimber tracked Tarva down in what had once been the cult's communal nursery, now a scene of overturned toy boxes, blankets and baby items scattered everywhere, disordered items, and other things left behind by the intensive police search. Tarva was sitting amid several cribs when Kimber found her, appearing briefly as though she were behind bars herself when viewed from the wrong angle. The shadow-witch was holding a child's toy in her hand, turning it over and over, and singing softly to herself, "Jolly and pleasant just for the present; no sign of trouble in sight..."- 49 replies

This impressive blade once belonged to Nina's older brother Farida before she won it from him in fair combat. Made of meteoric iron found in the Arabian Peninsula, he had its edge lined with nigh-monotatomic computronium in the wake of the Incursion. A small sample of water preserved in the hilt means Nina can manipulate it with her hydrokinetic abilities. The armor! This blue and white armor, accessorized with gold cape and cowl, bears a striking but not complete resemblance to the body armor typically worn by Typhoon. A watery gel inside the armored shell provides a cushion against impact - and something for Nina to manipulate inside the armor. It has a fairly limited internal 'environment', being a product of the Socotran exile community rather than more advanced super-science, but it does give Nina a self-contained internal environment. "A young fellow like you should learn the importance of branding," said Infamy, giving Mike a smile that showed too many teeth. "I'm here to offer you a favor. You, the brave and famous Phalanx, want to know where August Roman is and what he's doing so that you can stop his dastardly plan. Well, I can tell you where he is. You're a smart fellow - you know what he plans already. All I ask in return is...your gratitude." He gestured down at the city below. "Now, I'm sure you could look around with those senses of yours and find the man eventually, before too many more people die - but you have to ask yourself, is your pride really worth their lives? What do you say?" - The Angel of Death's (the real one) twin champions arrived together in one of several parking lots of the University Hospitals of Cleveland - right in the middle of a near-panicked evacuation. The lot was a melee of patients, bed-bound and otherwise, being tended by staff and security in the process of getting themselves and their charges away from a hospital complex in the middle of a grim and frightening transformation. Clouds of grey, swirling ash were coalescing on the building like a film run in reverse, pooling through windows and doors like the limbs of some fantastic beast that was forming around a bed somewhere inside the complex. In the parking lot themselves, Fast-Forward deposited Hologram next to the two obvious superheroes and gave the situation a fast look before commenting in a short syllable - "Evac." It was an old maneuver, and a necessary one here. Fairview Hospital was across town, some ten miles away by road. Fast-Forward, running from bed to bed, taking patients, doctors, and staff as he went, was disappearing and reappearing so fast it hardly appeared that he'd left at all - his form stuttering around the lot, vanishing the civilian crowd rapidly as the other heroes planned their next move.

To his surprise, Riley found himself weighing in on Raina's side - well, sort of. "This is the red formula, right, the one that didn't do the skin thing?" He took the bottle from Fred and held it up to the light, a look of concern on his face as he contemplated what it would be like if Robin was turned into a raving feral monster like the - suddenly he set down the bottle and ran, bolting past Fred and Raina down the hospital hallway, his eyes wide and pupils round. Opening a door led him inside a big hospital single-toilet bathroom and he stepped inside, closing the door shut and locking it behind him. He didn't vomit, he didn't break - he just crouched and stared at the door, his muscles tight and breathing coming slow and shallow.
-
Fred knew the creatures were hunting her, and hunting close - the cloud of smoke she'd thrown up was beginning to dissipate and she could hear the thrum thrum thrum of undersea voices speaking in near-subsonic tones as they hopped their way near her, bodies moving with unnatural flexibility like the great fish-frog-men they were. But she continued her work unmolested - with the screen in place, Reagent had a clear space to operate with her science. For now! - Sea Devil stared up into the maw of the giant Deep One, acutely aware of the Deep Ones looting the damaged apartment building, the hugely bloated parody of a male before her, the Atlantean tearing through them - and suddenly saw in her mind a clear image of the little ones in the aquarium in Freedom City, and vengeful Surfacers pounding down the door to get at their little green bodies. "NO!" she bellowed and snapped her hands forward, green glowing tridents flaring to life as she shoved them at the creature's face. The great green Deep One before her stepped backwards as she went for his face, giving ground before her assault. "You're making it bad! Co-ax-co-ax! Don't make me bleed another Deep One!" The giant showed no such compunctions against hurting Aquaria - striking out with a massive forelimb that missed Sea Devil but hit the pavement next to her, cracking it with a single blow and sending fragments flying everywhere. He was so focused on the crab on his toe he was ignoring the feast laid out before him; he was focused on Sea Devil and not the damaged building behind her. It was a good strategy. For now!

When the disturbance came, it ripped across the magical world like lightning. - In a backyard full of glowing stars, Richard watched them fall. He'd never been much of a church-going man in his life - but as he watched the tiny orbs fall down on a magically-sketched map of the world, the book in his hand produced in the carefully penciled handwriting of a long-dead Master Mage a King James quote. "And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind." - a quote from Revelations that spelled the end of the world. Even said Master Mage might have taken hours of celestial calculations to see where the end of the world was coming from - Richard needed no time at all. Ticks on the kitchen clock of the Cline house. Tick. Richard was inside, a thought in his mind. Cleveland. The Heart Hospital. Tick. He was in costume - and so was Paige. Tick. They were running. - Hologram felt it as they ran - a black cloud that was not an angel's wrath or an executioner's remorseless sense of duty, but a pall of mortal despair and anguish coalescing in the fast-approaching city. The deaths hadn't started yet, but they were coming, oh yes, she could sense the intent growing in the mind coming into existence in Cleveland - the heart hospital! It was 450 miles to Cleveland; She and Richard were running at an objective Mach 26. They made it to the city limits before the sponge that had been in her hand hit the ground. The mind she could feel, burning like a flame even from this far away, was August Roman's, a man she'd met only once or twice but was clearly enough, but not at the same time - as if a burning torch had been placed in a pile of offal. What force could do this to a man like that? - Araerel remembered Azrael. Azrael the patient, Azrael the wise, Azrael the one never interested in the politics of Thrones, Principalities, or Powers - because he had his work, and eventually his wife and son, and it was all he ever really wanted. Along among angels, the Angel of Death had always been...content with his Created lot in a way unlike most other beings. When the Enochian words on Araerel's body began to reshape themselves into a new message, the lowered angel knew exactly who was speaking to him. THE USURPER RISES. The Angel of Death did not sound content this day. YOU ALONE ARE WITHIN TERRESTRIAL CREATION. HE HAS THE POWER TO DESTROY YOU - WILL YOU GO? - The same manifestation came to Nick Cimiterie - albeit in a slightly different form. MY SON-IN-POWER. The words came not in his skin but in his head, in his mind; not the angelic manifestations he had seen but the cosmic reality of Death itself (at least in the Judeo-Christian garb it usually wore around him) speaking directly to him. He saw a scene in his mind - a hospital in the midst of evacuation, patients being desperately wheeled through corridors by a staff near panic, all while something black and coiling writhed its way through the walls and into one particular frail body warped by age. The body of August Roman. THE USURPER RISES. GO AND DEFEAT HIM IN MY NAME. - "Centurion! Is that you!?" When Phalanx turned his head, he'd been joined in the sky by a man who wasn't there - a smiling figure with a black suit, sharply cut goatee, and red tie. The man was, as far as Mike's senses could tell, not really there at all - but he didn't seem like the illusions Alex had shown him, either. "Oh no, he's dead, isn't he? You must be the new chap." The man smiled at him. "Hello, I don't think we've met. My name is Mr. Infamy."

"I speak your language, you stupid American pendejo!!" growled the fly man, a tone of desperation entering his voice. Sparkler's fireballs had cleared the air of flies, leaving behind the distinct odor of burnt vermin, but now more were beginning to enter, flying through the hole left in the glass doors to the balcony and through the air conditioning. This wasn't the flood it had first been - but was clearly notable all the same. "This isn't fair! He promised me revenge and now all I can do is..." He turned his head, still writhing in Caradoc's grip, and stared at a full trashcan that had been spilled over during the earlier melee. "I want that," he growled. "I want that as badly as I want the King of Tigers! This isn't what I was promised. Arov is a monster, not an avenger!"

With Lovers and Friends I Still Can Recall (OPEN)
Avenger Assembled replied to Electra's topic in Freedom City Stories
10AM There’d been a breach of security in the women’s section - an intruder who needed to be chased off by the alert security detail of the bridesmaids. But Mark had dropped valuable booty on the way - the massage chairs in a vacant upstairs bedroom that the bridesmaids were now using for their manipedis. With her feet in a warm salt bath and her slim frame resting in a black leather vibrating chair, Nina al-Darsah decided she was going to make Mark buy one of these and put it in their house. Surrounded by women of great fame and superheroic repute, perhaps she’d pushed herself a little too far in the bachelorette party games of the night before. Her neck was still a little sore. Her eyes closed, she let her mind wander. Alex, at least, was no longer smacking into the occasional wall if she was seated in the massage chair. While her vaunted psychic abilities were useful in keeping any disturbances to a minimum, Alex had thumped into more than one corner or knick-knack as she bounced her senses between ‘here’ and ‘there’. Her hazel eyes snapped back into focus once more on the room before falling on Nina, “Mike says that things are going smoothly over on the boys end for the moment,” she volunteered, trying to coax Mark’s significant other into light conversation. “Ah, good,” said Nina, nodding her head with approval. She shifted in her seat, sighing happily as a whirling roller dug into a stiff spot between her shoulder blades. “The boys had a long night as well. Longer than ours, I think - Mark was up first thing this morning; I found him on the beach as if he’d seen a ghost.” She turned her head and looked Alex up and down. “All this must be a dry run for you, eh?” she asked, smiling as she nodded down at the ring on the psychic’s finger. “Do you and Mike have a date?” “I don’t think we’re going to have a big wedding like this,” Alex said as she glanced down at the ring she’d been wearing for quite some time now with a fond smile. “We’ll probably just have a small, intimate celebration after enough time has passed that I won’t be stomping on Erin’s day.” She said with a small shrug of her shoulders that might have seemed at odds with the excess of binders and plans and presentations she’d put together for Erin’s big day. “I just hope it’s everything Erin wants, really. What do you think of all of it?” She asked with some curiosity, aware enough that the Socotran customs were often rather different from American norms. “It’s fairly typical for an American wedding,” said Nina thoughtfully. “If you leave superhumans out of the equation, anyway. I’m sure everyone will love it.” Aware she was being prompted, Nina hmmed for a moment before saying, “It’s much quieter than the ones I saw when I was a child. I think the largest I’ve seen was when my sister Murjana wed her husband Prince Adui - so it was both Socotran and Dakanan at once. There were thousands of people in the Great Square when they were wed, with thousands more in the streets of the city, and they all shouted as one and bowed to Typhoon when the vows were read. Ah, it was glorious.” She smiled thinly. “I’ve seen more traditional Muslim weddings here, of course. But I don’t think Erin would like a full nikah dress and veils.” “Well, Erin’s not Muslim so it wouldn’t have the same meaning for her,” Alex agreed with an easy smile, glossing over the glory to the Typhoon portion of that conversation. She was well aware that Nina’s background was vastly different than most of the women or men in the mansion. “Do you think that you’ll want the full, traditional celebrations when you get married? Dholki and then all of the traditional days leading up to the wedding itself?” Alex asked and it sounded less probative and largely curious. She didn’t think that Mark and Nina would end their relationship any time in the near future and Alex DID like to be prepared. “Those are for Indian girls,” said Nina, shaking her head. “But something like that. I do like the henna tattoos,” she said, spreading her fingers wide and setting a hand on the arm of the chair. “When I was a small girl, there was a woman in Court who had mystic tattoos she could bring to life with a thought - and I wanted them. I demanded my servants apply henna to me. I was so disappointed when it didn’t work, I think I actually wept.” She laughed. “They were brave people, my women; they’d helped raise twelve al-Darsahs by then. I understand you were a girl in a...government laboratory?” she hazarded. Alex nodded slightly at the correction, mentally filing it away before she smiled faintly at the question, “Sort of,” Alex agreed as she shifted her feet in the water slightly. “I was born here in Freedom City - Mike and I were both T-babies, but it wasn’t really known until we were five, or so. We were schooled - tested, really - at a facility in the city but we got to go home to our families after. I mean, there were a lot of restrictions on where we could go but it really wasn’t so bad. There’s a lot worse childhoods to have,” Alex’s tone was phlegmatic, with the assurance of one who actually understood the truth in that statement. “Some T-babies powers crop up later but both Mike and I were born a little different so, in a way, it was a good thing for us, at least. Plus, we had each other so…” She gave a little gesture with her manicured hand. “It WAS a bit of a culture shock when we switched to Claremont though.” “Powers in my family come young, and through the blood - proof of who you are and your right to rule.” Nina nodded reflectively and looked down at her feet, not pulling them out of the water but actually pushing the water aside. “All right, I should be ready for my turn with the pedicurist. Water doesn’t permeate my skin the way it does normal skin, or else I could not dive so deep.” She lingered, though, reluctant to get up out of the massage chair - and to end the conversation. “I never knew what to make of American superbeings when I was younger. Of course, with so many, you could never have one ruler - but the idea that _no one_ ruled, and so few have even tried, made you all seem very...strange.” It was not the word her father had used in her raising. Alex’s gaze cast down towards her hands, watching the way the color caught the light, “When others look to you to make their choices, you don’t really get to make your own anymore,” Alex replied, the words honest and she finally looked up to meet Nina’s gaze directly. Alex had learned helming AEON that her gaze could be too direct. It was always Alex’s eyes that gave away the mind behind it, too old for her young face. “I like to think that we maybe just value that there’s beauty in people leading themselves but, I think, it's much more that trying to take care of absolutely everyone is so very hard… And it’s not like it lasts forever, either. There’s something to be said for building a system rather than relying on one person, at least that’s the democratic theory. It’s not without its flaws, too.” Alex gave a little shrug before she glanced down at the water once more, wiggling her toes in it. “When I was little, everyone seemed strange to me. I used to poke around in people’s thoughts to try and make sense of them - I don’t do that anymore!” Alex added, with some lingering embarrassment for the actions of a toddler, as if Nina might be concerned about the sanctity of her thoughts around the psychic if she didn’t add in that caveat. “Talking is much easier. People will say all sorts of things about themselves if you know how to listen - even when they say nothing at all.” Nina didn’t seem bothered by the news of Alex’s childhood indiscretions - if anything, the telepath caught a look of interest on the other woman’s face. “I’m looking forward to seeing what people say on a day like today.” She smiled. “Let’s go have the women fix our feet - if we’re going to spend all our time a half foot shorter than the bride, we should make sure ours are as comfortable as possible.” “Talking is a lot less easy for me than you’d think,” Alex agreed cheerfully as she stood up. She used her powers casually, making sure the water stayed in the bowl and didn’t drip across the carpet. “But listening - that’s something I can’t really help but manage.” Alex said as she caught up with the other woman on bare feet, easily tendering the invitation, “You know, you should come by AEON sometime. I’d love to get your insight into some of our programs with the intuitive grasp of hydrokinetic energy that you have. We have some projects coming up…” Alex said, chattering away as they went off to enjoy the pampering that came along with all the pre-bridal rituals. -
All right, let's see - Mark has 49PP in his main array, TV, he's already a mass teleporter. TV, how much of the population of London are comfortable with Edge teleporting to safety here? With 88 miles to the Cotswolds and lots of Progression on Area, he can theoretically get them all.

"Hmm. How do they define their 'honor'?" asked Frankan, white eyebrows rising at Aya's words. "I usually associate that sort of talk with primitive tribal nation-states and their would-be warlords - not the emissaries of galactic empire. But from what you're telling me, perhaps our guests have more in common with those primitives than reports have allowed. We know the Delazatri contacted worlds before they reached superliminal capacity - perhaps that's part of the problem. It must be difficult for a career officer like yourself to be working with such disorganized aliens."
