"It was a tidal pond on the island where I was born. Surfacers call that part of the Ocean the south Caribbean." She pointed on the map to a spot of land near the Lago del Maracaibo, her bulbous fingertip leaving a faint mark on the laptop screen. As she spoke, she rested her big hands on her folded knees, which with her long legs came up high level with her torso. "The wetlands on the coast were ours in ancient days, but when I was born we hardly went there anymore. The island was all we had - a volcano that we could hide beneath when Surfacers and Atlanteans came. No one lives there anymore, though." Ray could guess the rest. She gave a smile to Jessie, a slightly alarming sight given the sheer untapped depths of that gigantic mouth, "It won't hurt as much as a stick in my back and a stick in my mouth to bite on!"

Totem [GM Notes: From spider to cat to wolf to monkey, everyone loves superheroes with animal powers. I've chosen to build this character in a feline direction - but I'll be making suggestions throughout for alternate animal types.] Abilities: 4 + 4 + 4 + 0 + 4 + 6 = 22PP Strength: 24/14 (+7/+2) Dexterity: 24/14 (+7/+2) Constitution: 24/14 (+7/+2) Intelligence: 10 (+0) Wisdom: 14 (+2) Charisma: 16 (+3) [GM Notes: Charismatic, strong, fast, and tough, she's a well-rounded character. This character is close to a panther or a tiger - a rhino or elephant will be more Strength and Constitution-focused, while a spider-type might have an even higher Dexterity. Someone who has inherited their abilities - maybe they're from a tribe of cat people from Scotland or South America - is probably going to have her Abilities unEnhanced - the idea is that this character was born a human being but gained her cat powers from some later source.] Combat: 12 + 12 = 24PP Initiative: +11 Attack: +6 Base, +10 Natural Weapons Defense: +10 (+6 Base, +4 Dodge Focus), +3 Flat-Footed Grapple: +13/+16 w/Totem Array Knockback: -3/-1 [GM Notes: Again, pretty straightforward. I've talked elsewhere about how a PL 10 character with no tradeoffs is balanced enough to fit in well in both street-level and high-level campaigns. Her high Initiative means that she's going to be competitive with Martial Artists and Costumed Detectives - but she'll be doing enough damage to seriously injure either if she manages to get her claws in them. If you want her more Dodge-focused, just take her Protection from down below and put it into her Dodge Focus. A monkey or more agile character will be more Attack-shifted.] Saves: 0 + 0 + 5 = 5PP Toughness: +10/+2 (+2 Con, +5 Enhanced Con, +3 Protection) Fortitude: +7/+2 (+2 Con, +5 Enhanced Con) Reflex: +7/+2 (+2 Dex, +5 Enhanced Con) Will: +7 (+2 Wis, +5) [GM Notes: Pretty straightforward saves here - a little low, but not too bad. If you want to play up her role as a Dex-monkey, er, kitty, cut down on her extremely high skills and up her Reflex save] Skills: 100R = 25PP Acrobatics 13 (+20) Skill Mastery Climb 3 (+10) Drive 3 (+10) Gather Information 12 (+15) Handle Animal 2 (+5) Intimidate 7 (+10) Investigate 5 (+5) Knowledge (Streetwise) 5 (+5) Notice 13 (+15) Skill Mastery Sense Motive 8 (+10) Stealth 13 (+20) Skill Mastery Survival 13 (+15) Skill Mastery Swim 3 (+10) [GM Notes: Her extremely high Skills give you plenty of opportunities to rearrange points and customize to your satisfaction. Like many of my builds, she's 'street-level', with the idea of being an empowered police officer who has left the force and become a private investigator/street avenger on her own time. A feline monarch, perhaps a scion of the White Lion dynasty in Dakana, will have more skills focused on 'normal' human interaction like Diplomacy - and a language to reflect the country that she's from!] Feats: 15PP Acrobatic Bluff Challenge (Fast Acrobatic Bluff) Dodge Focus 4 Evasion 2 Hide in Plain Sight Improved Initiative Move-By Action Power Attack Skill Mastery (Acrobatics, Notice, Stealth, Survival) Takedown Attack Well-Informed [GM Notes: Again, a street-level goonsweeping acrobat/martial artist - her feats aren't that different from other characters like her. A White Lioness will have Benefits to reflect Status and Wealth. You could add Sneak Attack and Taunt to reflect a desperate teenager trying to overcompensate for his terror with quips - and for not actually knowing how to fight.] Powers: 2 + 7 + 10 + 10 + 10 + 3 + 4 + 8 + 7 = 61PP Descriptors: all mutation Comprehend 2 (Speak to and Understand Animals; Flaw: Limited [Felines]) [2PP] Damage 3 (Natural Weapons, Feats: Accurate 2, Mighty, Variable Descriptor 1 [bludgeoning/piercing/slashing]) [7PP] Enhanced Constitution 10 (to 24/+7) [10PP] Enhanced Dexterity 10 (to 24/+7) [10PP] Enhanced Strength 10 (to 24/+7) [10PP] Protection 3 [3PP] Super-Movement 2 (Wall-Crawling 2) [4PP] Super-Senses 8 (Auditory [Enhancements: Danger Sense, Ultrasonic Hearing, Uncanny Dodge], Olfactory [Enhancements: Accurate, Acute, Tracking 1 [Quarter-Speed], Visual [Enhancements: Low-Light Vision]) [8PP] Totem Array 3 (6PP, Feats: Alternate Power) [7PP] BE: Leaping 3 (x10, Running Long Jump: 170', Standing Long Jump: 90', Vertical Jump: 42') + Speed 3 (50 MPH / 500' per Move Action) {6/6} AP: Super-Strength 3 (Effective Strength 39, Heavy Load: 3 tons) {6/6} [GM Notes: Whoo-doggies! These powers would work fine for a cat, dog or any similar big mammal - some tweaking would give you a lizard or similar creature, though the latter could use some drawbacks to reflect a cold-blooded character. A fish or frog is going to need some Immunities, Swimming, and Environmental Adaptation - a bird is of course going to need Flight and Super-Senses focused on vision. Note that her Damage power reflected super-strong punches, biting, clawing, whatever you like! A monarch-type will probably have significantly fewer powers while gaining more skills and feats. It's a flexible build for a flexible heroine. One possible tweak would be to put her powers in an Alternate Form that can be turned on or off - as written her powers don't come as a unit and are always 'on', though they don't necessarily have cosmetic problems. Totems can have appearance-related Complications of various sorts, just kindly remember that the 'animal people' conventions of other genres, fandoms and subcultures may not be suitable for this setting. Marvel's Tigra is a good example of how to do a superhero totem with an animalistic appearance well. Note that she doesn't actually turn into a giant cat, you'd have to buy some sort of single form Morph for that to work.] Drawbacks: (-0) + (-0) = -0PP [GM Notes: A Normal ID drawback would be a plausible thing for her to have - and a handy way of maintaining a secret ID!] DC Block ATTACK RANGE SAVE EFFECT Unarmed Touch DC 22 Toughness Damage [Physical] Natural Weapons Touch DC 25 Toughness Damage [Physical] Totals: Abilities (22) + Combat (24) + Saving Throws (5) + Skills (25) + Feats (15) + Powers (61) - Drawbacks (0) = 150/150 Power Points

"Tattoos always hurt," said Aquaria with authority. "It's why they mean something. They show you are willing to sacrifice for yourself." She turned and sat down on a stool, folding her lanky body awkwardly around until she found a position that let her show Ray the broad expanse of green and white skin between her shoulder blades that would be the target of the needle. "I don't know what the plant was called. It was just...the blue plant, that grew in the ponds." She swiveled her upper torso back and forth, about as close as she could get to visibly shaking her head. "Dr. Stanley is nice. He helped me get a job taking care of the babies at the aquarium. But now they're growing up and being adopted by Surfacer parents, so I keep the ground outside houses instead."

"Ah, the Jungle Room," commented Dimitri under his breath as they headed in a big circle that gradually veered them west again. At Talya's unspoken request, he took the lead of their little trio. "How delightful. So, we tell Ace the sad tale of his father, we tell him happy tale of Browning baby, and we pack him off to Earth-Prime. Should be easy as pie." He looked around as they went, hands in his pockets, and then winked at Erik. "You see, am excellent ambassador. Have been around bourgeois police many decades and between friendly Russian ice monster, friendly Bombshell, and friendly young father, all is resolved. You just have to know to handle those types." He made sure, before he spoke, that there were none visible as they headed down the street.

"I don't know what Abrahamic is," admitted Aquaria, stumbling over what was obviously an unfamiliar word, "but it doesn't bother me if you worship one of the Surfacer gods. All religions have a path to wisdom," she told Ray with what was obviously an attempt at reassurance - and at least one carefully memorized phrase. The idea that there were gods of the Surface still seemed faintly bizarre to Aquaria's sensibilities, but this was no time for an argument about religion. "I promise you that I am not a cultist - and I do not love the ones who take the names of my gods in vain. If I was home, I would have born an Elder Sign for many years now."

"I am Aquaria Innsmouth. And I need your help." Aquaria reached down and pulled off her hoodie in one smooth motion, revealing that it was all she was wearing - and revealing a truly impressive amount of tattooing underneath. The markings, which to Rae's practiced eye looked to be made by ash mixed with some sort of natural plant product, were blue beneath acres of green and white skin, tracing all over Aquaria's torso in intricate, abstract, obviously meaningful patterns that would have looked like something from another world to any other tattoo artist in the city. "Where I was born, we are marked to show passages." Aquaria pointed to herself, swirls along her arms "When I killed food for others for the first time." Spirals along her belly. "When I laid eggs. When they hatched," along her flank, when eyes seemed to have appeared among the spirals. "I have done everything but the last one - the mark that shows that I am an elder. Can you make an elder sign for me?" she asked of Rae.

"I used to wonder if there was something left behind when my old brain shut down," said Eira with a voice that sounded older than her years, "but it doesn't sound that way. I just wanted to live, and wake up in a body when I wasn't sick anymore. And I did!" she said, smiling winningly at Kimber. "I talked to Sharl about it," she went on, "but he doesn't really understand why I'm worried because he never had a meat brain. Is going to Jotunheim why you like girls?" she asked the ghost curiously. "Because I remember I thought you had a crush on Koshiro..."

Relentless frowned at that - and for a moment, Raina thought the young woman was about to say more. But the barriers between instructor and student were pretty high - and it looked like Relentless wasn't ready to reach over them any further today. "You'd better get out and enjoy the air, Sanderson. Too much time down in the Doom Room's not good for you. I'll clean up down here, all right?" - "I guess," said Riley thoughtfully, not having considered Robin's idea. "Maybe that wasn't the point of't. I dunno." He frowned, then said, "It just...doesn't seem like that big of a deal. Nobody was really in danger here, and it doesn't bother me they thought our idea was stupid. They think a lotta important things are stupid here. I just don't like t' make a big deal outta it." He'd talked with Robin, a little, about Woodsman training - about how they started young on their 14th birthdays, working with rifles and setting traps, and how they killed their first Feral (Riley had used the steel hatchet he still wore) before they were fifteen. "Maybe they were testin' to see how well we take somethin' unfair."

Aquaria padded over to Rae, head ducked low under her hoodie. She could pass for human, especially with the heavy sunglasses she was wearing underneath, but since Rae knew what to look for he could see the arms and legs that were a little too long and gangly for a normal human's body, the rounded, muscular torso beneath the outfit, and of course the three-fingered hands. Sucking up her courage, Aquaria pulled back her hood, exposing green and white skin, big goggle eyes, and a hugely gaping mouth that she was careful not to open too wide as she spoke to the man for the first time. Aquaria studied Rae carefully, waiting for a reaction. If he was going to be working with her upper torso, he needed to get used to her quickly. "I called. I need a tattoo for my skin." She pulled off her gloves and exposed the skin underneath, green and white and slick to the touch, more suitable for the frog she resembled than a human. At her wrists, Rae could make out the beginnings of what had to be a previous artist's work, blue abstract patterns that disappeared up underneath her long sleeves.

An instant later, Woodsman's bolt exploded against the wall next to the woman's head, a quick cloud of powerful sedatives erupting as the chemicals inside the fractured stick mixed and erupted outward. As the receptionist slumped, semi-conscious and drugged, to the ground, Woodsman himself erupted from the wall, the drywall easily breaking as the teen put his body weight behind a shoulder roll. He'd weakened it by quietly poking out a hole for his sniping, giving him a chance to look like a badass (or so he assumed) as he tucked and rolled and came up running into the elevator alongside Robin. "They're gonna be waiting for us," he commented with a smile, readying another arrow and aiming it at their feet. "So we got 'em where we want 'em."

March 1, 2016 "Do you do non-humans?" The voice on the shop's phone was like none Rae had heard before - a booming croak that nonetheless was clearly speaking words. "For tattoos." - Outside, Aquaria was largely concealed beneath a gigantic hoodie and sweatpants, ducked low behind Jessie as she spoke into the latter's phone (a replacement they'd gotten upon their return to Terra), just a few doors down from the place that did inking - the tattoo parlor in English. They'd looked the place up on Jessie's computer, but if there was anything they'd learned from their trip to space, you couldn't be too careful! It was late in Riverside, the streets beginning to darken as late afternoon began to shed into evening, and the streets mostly empty in the wake of the hard rain that afternoon. Which made it perfect.

I took the liberty of making some edits to your sheet - look them over and let me know what you think. (It's now closer to our template and a little more efficient - and your character is much, much better in combat, at the price of being a slower flier) Love the backstory! His base attack is a little low for an AEGIS agent - but not crazy low. Just something to think about. Let me know what you think!

"Excellent work, Star Knight," came the Grand Nauarchus' voice. For all the panic her arrival had caused, she sounded cool, calm, and collected - and it was clear she didn't share Cavalier's reservations about the situation. "We'll take it from here. We'll make sure your friends are handsomely rewarded for their role in this military operation. Are Aquaria and Jessie ready for their transportation home?" Outside, they could see the intelligence ship flying in to dock - with, just as Eclipse had predicted, the various 'traders' and other riff-raff who spent their time here were taking this opportunity to flee, a flock of small civilian ships hastily undocking and speeding away in all directions. Aquaria gave Bliss a grateful look, blinking those big eyes at her, but then caught sight of Jessie and Sitara."Don't-" Aquaria hopped over to Jessie's side, knowing in this state she wouldn't lash out against a familiar face, but not trusting how she'd handle Sitara. "Sssh, sssh..." She wanted nothing more than to curl up next to Jessie and share her presence until she felt the familiar movements that told her Jessie was beginning to come out of her fugue state - but there wasn't time for that now. "We'll make it be okay. We'll make it be okay." She looked up at the others, still crouched in an all-four position that would have been terribly uncomfortable for most humanoid species. "I can carry her," she said, making her words true as she picked up Jessie, all in a ball, with her long, gangly-green arms. "But where do we go from here? I thought the ship was sinking!"

Before Henry could get too impatient, he felt the familiar slight chill that meant Dimitri was about - a moment before he heard a hard knock on his door. Standing outside, both of them in civilian clothing, were two people his other self knew very well - even if Henry had only seen the one with his own eyes before. "Hey, man, brought a lady-friend," said Dimitri, patting Henry on the arm as he stepped into the man's apartment. In his hand, still unfrozen but by now quite cold, was a twelve-pack of beer. "Thanks for letting us in. You remember Bombshell, yeah?" he inquired as he headed for the kitchen with the comfortable ease of a man acting like he knew the place. Klara got there just in time to see Dimitri and Talya disappear through the apartment's front door.

"Is proud day for mother and father," offered Dimitri with a wink at the pretty police officer, then a nod in Erik's direction, obviously directing the lady's attention to Jack of all Blades rather than himself. "You know how these things go, eh, fearsome one? Eh?" For a moment it looked like he was about to slap the warrior woman on the back - before he seemed to think better of it. He put an avuncular arm around Erik's shoulder and it was a bit like being hugged by the inside of the deep freeze back home. "I am merely ice golem designed to serve needs of friendly visitors to friendly dimension."

Ted laughed, a bark of pleasure that sounded like he was enjoying Raina's attitude. "Fair enough. I always did like the dance." He looked in the direction Raina was looking, then frowned. "Speaking of friends getting into trouble...excuse me." He stalked across the dance floor to where Maddy and her blonde friend were squaring off, or rather Maddy was beginning to blink herself back to awareness while the blonde was starting to guide her towards one of the couches at the edge of the dancefloor. Watching, Raina saw her would-be paramour squaring off in an argument with the blonde - the latter of whom was pointing angrily at the rapidly-retreating Cathy, and then right at her! Raina distinctly caught the blonde looking at her - and again felt that flash of magic as she rubbed the necklace she wore above the low top line of her outfit's top.

February 2016 Late evening It was not too late for a pregnant woman to be outside with an ice monster. Or so Dimitri was sure. "<That's his apartment!>" Dimitri was declaring from inside the frosted-over windows of his Freedom League Ford Escort, pointing up at the third floor window of the small apartment block. "<He just walks around in there with Henry Griffin's face! It's awful! Goddamned Americans.>" He parked the car, carefully, mindful of America's bizarre mirror-image streets. "<I told him we're coming. I think you can get more out of him about his origins than I can - he's a trusting sort, but you know how I can be...>" - Klara had gotten the message by telephone, or rather on her cell's voice mail, - Dimitri Peshkov wanted to meet her in Kingston to discuss old times at a certain third floor apartment.

At that moment, the entire station rumbled with the familiar vibrations of a nearby vessel coming out of hyperspace. Looking outside the window, the adventurers familiar with space could see the familiar, albeit unwelcome, lines of a Lor military intelligence ship, a fast, stealthy craft designed for long-range infiltration. When the ship broadcast, the station's controller put the signal on loudspeakers, the automatics translating it for everyone on board to hear. The cultured voice was immediately recognizable as Grandmother Frankan herself. "Attention Wolf 359 station. This is Grand Nauarchus Bucklin Frankan aboard the Lor Star Navy vessel Redeemer. As of now, under Article 403 of Star Navy Code, I am assuming military command of your station. You will depower your weapons and prepare to be boarded!" - "You have to take her back home," Aquaria was croaking to the Voidrunner crew, something in her suit finally translating the words for the aliens in the crew. "Jessie's sister will give you the reward you want - whatever happens to me. There are people left who love her." When the announcement came, Aquaria gave a nervous hop back beside Jessie and rose to her feet, facing down the hostile aliens with uneasy goggle eyes. "I...I am sorry about what happened to that Star Knight. But I wasn't the one who killed him. I was just trying to help my friend. "
