  1. Four had lost his helmet by dint of Tarva simply ripping it free from its seal, exposing the surprisingly young, freckle-faced redhead underneath. "Some creepy-ass cult guy, I dunno!" His cheeks flushed especially red. "Boss made him pay in gold up front, but he was good for it." He hmmed, a calculating look appearing on his face. "Bet you'd like to know where Manson II is hiding out, huh?" "Loathsome worm. You're just a slave's slave. You are not even worth my bile, maggot." Tarva released him disgustedly and walked away, wiping her hands on her dress as Kimber finished the interrogation. "Uh..." He watched Tarva leave, still looking tense, then looked back at Kimber. "Hey, I got no love for creepy cult guys. But, uh, I go in the hole and people hear I talked, I get a shiv in the back in the shower. Maybe if you tell everyone you used your mind whammies on me..."
  2. Okay, Skill Mastery will break through his resistance here...
  3. The clones went into action at that juncture, minus the big ones that Harrier had knocked off-balance at the beginning of the fight. As promised, they ignored the hostages (who were now climbing over the trucks and cars to try and escape the blocked-off alley) and went straight for the superheroes, their strange powers tearing away their copied police uniforms and SWAT armor to reveal the twisted clone physiologies within. A group went for Harrier with fire, dodging and weaving around him in the air as they hurled bolts of flame at his armored body, setting up another one to hurl a mighty gout of flame at his torso. But the Omegadrone, big and bulky though he was, proved faster - he whipped his pike around and caught the flame with the glowing tip, smashing the fire into the asphalt and leaving a bubbling crater behind. Bombshell was less lucky, the third group, oddly tall and skinny, hurled a pepper of blasts around her that knocked her off her feet, the pitted asphalt around her a sign that she'd gotten lucky even so from the near-miss. These clones were not holding back - and they were in great numbers!
  4. "Niiiice," said the girl, looking pleased with the sight of Cathy as she looked her up and down, casually planting two hands on her arms. The red-head didn't seem to mind any chilly temperatures from Cathy - in fact, she was one of the few people who had touched Cathy without seeming to radiate heat. Suddenly, the pretty blonde that had caught Raina's attention was on her feet and heading straight for the girl flirting with Cathy, her eyes flashing with suppressed emotion. "Maddie, Maddie, c'mon," she said, putting a hand on her equally lace-and-leather-clad friend and pulling her away. "They're gonna play your song soon, you should get out there on the floor!" The redhead shot a look at Cathy at the blonde's words, her eyes wide, and suddenly started going into the opposite direction. - "Hey there, hot stuff," said a confident figure who had joined Raina at the bar. Tall and muscular, he was built like a quarterback, with slicked black hair that descended in a curl onto his forehead. "I'm Ted." He had a definite accent, Raina guessed probably German. "I like a girl who can look me in the eye. You come here often?"
  5. "You think you can run from me, assassin!?" demanded Monsoon, leaping over the heads of bystanders only to land smoothly on her feet, chasing after the pretty blonde with intent, scimitar flying into her hand. Edge immediately backed Monsoon's play, running after her with his cape streaming in the breeze behind him. He didn't dare use his powers in the middle of the airport, not when one wrong move on his part could bring about catastrophe. He wasn't sure what Monsoon had seen or what had clued her into the assassination attempt, exactly, but he trusted her implicitly - especially in matters of state. Instead he added a helpful comment. "Hey, you'd better stop running! I can turn your shoes to superglue and stick you to the floor, which is really embarrassing, and Monsoon can drag you around by your blood, which hurts! And then there are the guys back there with guns. You'd better knock it off, lady."
  6. Notice check: Edge: 17 Monsoon 20
  7. Authenticity is all you need. Consider a Dazzler build that can't actually sing, or a Hal Jordan build that can't fly an airplane, or a Superman build who isn't actually a very good reporter. You'll get a lot more out of a Perform (stage magic) +8 check roleplaying-wise than you will out of your +5 Survival check.
  8. Looks good, just don't be too obnoxious with him! You want to make sure he's not annoying to _play_ with. You should give him some Perform!
  9. At his wife's side, Richard reached down and took her hand briefly, for a moment just like the teenager stealing moments with his girl between crimes. ~We've got superpowers, we've got money and cameras, and we're Americans - the world is our oyster.~ He grinned, but wasn't really kidding, between their experience and their powers, it was tough to get one over on either of them - and they could talk people into all kinds of things. ~Worst comes to worst, you sit in the driver's seat and I'll push it up to speed. What's the worst that could happen?~ They both knew the answer to that one. Looking around the square, he caught sight of the conversation in question. ~Hey, that woman is pretty big!~ Casually, he took out the small portable camera that was one of his few concessions to modern technology, letting Paige with her mental powers handle the potential conversation with people whose language he didn't speak.
  10. Monsoon studied the oncoming diplomats for a moment before a sudden instinct took over. She wasn't sure what it was - a legacy of the years she'd spent under security herself, the months of experience she'd gained as a superheroine, or maybe just the unique insights that seemed to kick in when she was around Mark. "Down!" she called, before she stepped forward and shoved the air, a tight whirlwind of hydrokinetic diamagnetism erupting from the palm of her hand as the would-be metahuman security knocked Kenzie Zhang on her butt. A moment later, a concrete support pillar nearby cracked as a mysterious object smashed into it at high speed, digging out a crater in the stone. Gun!
  11. With great feeling, and in fact a slight tremor in his voice, Riley spoke from the heart. "Love is what separates us from monsters." Woodsman turned and took up a prone position on the rooftop, readying his crossbow and using its sight to watch the interplay by the blood drive van. The boy was obviously an experienced sniper, his breathing slowing to a calm, steady level despite the pulse that was hammering in his ears, much less Kingsnake's. His hands moved with slow, deliberate precision - pulling out a bolt from his poncho and sliding it into place at the top of his crossbow's magazine. "Gonna put an arrow in th' wheel well when they take off. 'Sgot bear piss in't - 'n stuff that'll stain 'nuff for us t'track it if you lose da smell."
  12. Aquaria's big eyes flicked downward, and she remembered black words on a screen, her first understanding that Surfacers could write stories that meant something. "All the world will be your enemy, Prince With A Thousand Enemies, and whenever they catch you, they will kill you. But first they must catch you..." Aquaria quoted one of the few pieces of Surfacer literature she'd truly understood - or thought she had, anyway. "Jessie's sister is the mightiest warrior of our world - and we live in a nest of warriors. Once the first hunters are defeated, the others will stop coming, no matter how many treasures they give them." Cautiously, she put the tridents away, the green glow in her hands fading into nothingness - but her suit still gleamed with power. "When I was young," she croaked, "I used to float on the sea and look up at the sky and imagine who swam in the oceans of the stars. But it's worse here than the Surface. Everyone wants to use you, or hurt you, or hunt you. The Spectrum Knights are murderers, the Star Knights are monsters, and the Praetorians wanted to lock us away for no reason. I just want to get Jessie home. Everything that's happened to her out here is my fault."
  13. Gina will be up as soon as I post IC for the goons.
  14. Harrier is going to take a full-round action to coup de grace the monster. That'll be a DC 32 Toughness save. If this thing is an acceptable target, he will be doing lethal damage.
  15. "Man, nobody in this town appreciates some damn venison..." Kingsnake heard Riley mutter when he turned down the boy's jerky. - "Yeah, okay." He'd find a good place to stash this stuff (everything except the rings, anyway) for the actual hunt, but there was no time for that now. He laid one hand lightly on the rings, then the other on hers. "I'll get these back to you." He didn't like the idea of Robin going into danger because of his idea - but of course they were here, and fighting for these people, because they meant something to Robin even though no one else in this town gave a damn. He leaned close, and entirely too loud to escape Kingsnake's ears, whispered, "Baby, I love you."
  16. "I couldn't let them hurt you like that. No one should live that way..." Tarva hugged Kimber lightly, her nerves fading as her eyes fell on the last remaining Power Corps member. Given a context, she forgot her terror at being outside the castle and advanced on him, shadowy flame crackling around her fingers. "Slave!" she called, grabbing the man and picking him up one-handed with the kind of strength that belied her usual meek disposition. "Who are you? How DARE you violate this beautiful creature's mind!?" Four was recovering, and wearing intact armor - but he wasn't fool enough to try and fight it out around so many superheroes. "Argh! Hey, quarter, quarter! First of all, that crazy devil thing wasn't no beautiful creature, and second, that wasn't me, that was the hired help! We were just supposed to get a copy of the book!"
  17. Woodsman thought quickly, realizing he lacked the investigative expertise to solve this problem - though he did take the baggie of the unfamiliar root. He holstered his bow and pulled out his hatchet, standing in the shadow of the door as he waited for the guards to return. When they did, the guards had firefighting gear - masks and extinguishers, against the foul smoke that had come erupting from a corner of the office but had now faded. When they were through, he slipped the steel handle of the hatchet between the handles of the double doors, sealing the exit shut. They could run for one of the other security doors, sure - but not if he stopped them first. If they go for me, kneecap the fat one, hit the other one in the neck. "Hey, you geeks!" he called as he hefted his bow, and for a red-eyed moment he was back in the Forest Primeval, flushing out a pair of Ferals to get at their pack - but fortunately the moment passed. From a darkened corner of the warehouse, he was a hooded figure with his face invisible in the semi-darkness, but the gleaming point of his bow and the arrow within clearly visible to the two security guards "Found yer goddamn guns and yer goddamn root. You gonna tell me who it's for, or am I gonna shoot one of you m-fers?"
  18. "It's not magical, and it's not dimensional - of that, I can be absolutely certain." Tarva looked at Erin and Trevor, then looked away, down at her hands - despite her great height and evident mystic powers, she was obviously frightened by the pair and their questions. "I don't, ah, know much about the Deep Ones of this dimension, but I think they, ah, would have tripped my warding spells had they come to this place My greatestenemyisaUnspeakableOneworshipperandsoI'vebuiltwardsagainsttheminparticular!" The last sentence came out in a rush, the words all pressed together. "So I, ah, don't think the Trident took her by magic." "It was a glowing trident!" declared their informant. "It floated in the air, like some glowing lure!"
  19. Okay - You can get a smartphone without spending EP for it, but spending the points for it will make it a little more reliable. I have several possibilities to be the people who busted him! Let me know.
  20. Their UN security clearance had gotten Edge and Monsoon both past the gate security, leaving the two costumed heroes to wait by the airport's Champions franchise for the arrival of Kenzie Zhang. Mark had taken the lead in dealing with the other UNISON agents, leaving Monsoon to watch the crowd with her usual interest in the doings of human beings. "Someone would have to be crazy to make a hit here in Freedom City," Mark was assuring Agent Rivera. "But that doesn't necessarily mean anything," he admitted. "Between SHADOW clones, and OVERTHROW fanatics, and those T-Baby supremacists, there are a lot of crazy people out there." It was impossible for Mark to be discreet, especially in costume, so he was being interrupted occasionally to shake hands or sign autographs as people passed by. He was, after all, the most famous superhuman in the employ of the United Nations. For her part, Nina was trying to avoid provocation - this was Mark's work, after all, and important work it was. Having lived most of her life around security and security personnel, this was familiar territory. "When I first came to this country, Edge was my sole escort," she commented to Francisca, "and he helped me survive an attempt on my life by interdimensional Nazis. You couldn't be in better hands. And if anyone shows their faces in anger, we will teach them the price of laying hands on one who would bring peace."
  21. Okay - Edge: Notice: 22 Monsoon: Notice: 8 They can't see a thing!

  24. "...all right, I'm in. But I signed a contract - I'm not gonna help you with this one." Cyberknife could hear the wounded pride in Freebooter's voice. "I'm not a traitor." - Magpie, still in his Hanson disguise, hesitated just a moment before he began jogging after them. "Say, where exactly are you taking this man?" he asked, a trace of a Continental accent creeping into his voice. "He's one of America's greatest cyberneticists - he needs specialized medical care for his condition." Suddenly, to everyone's surprise, McGinnis opened his eyes! Taking deep, slow breaths, he looked around, moving his head and shoulders but nothing else as sensation slowly returned to his body. "Oh, man...what happened?"
