  1. "Need to set a trap," Woodsman opined, some time later, from a nearby rooftop. They'd compared notes, they'd shaken down some people for information and not gotten very much - it was time to make a plan. He'd handed off jerky to Nighthawk and Kingsnake, the former of whom knew (and the latter of whom could tell) was that this was indeed homemade venison jerky. And pretty good, too. "Wait for them to come hunting, catch them at it, do our thing. We need bait." He thought uncomfortably of walking into a place without his bow and hatchet, especially a place of doctors who might be interested in his body, but he wasn't one to volunteer his girl for a damned thing. "I'll do it. Not you, big man," he said, cocking his head Kingsnake's way. "Nobody lives here 'sbuilt like that."
  2. Just for the record, the Grapple check for Perception range powers is twice the power rank - so with Perception-range TK 10, you're rolling d20+20.
  3. Nina shot Mark a look at that, earning an exaggerated sigh from the handsome UN agent. "Baby, we got the house! What's that look for?" he said indulgently. "Nina just got me to buy us a house," he said, putting his hand lightly over Nina's, "we had a thing for a while about whether it was better to stay in our apartment or actually own property." "It's a very nice house by the sea," said Nina with a smile. "A good place for us to live for the next few years. Having a home is an important thing. For anyone."
  4. "Just because I ain't got the party started, hot stuff," came a response to Robin's question. The speaker was a young man with frosted blonde hair and a short goatee, wearing an expensive polo shirt over tight black jeans. "Hi, I'm DJ E," he said, pointing to the monogram over his right breast. "My crew and start in ten minutes. Can I play something for you and your friends?" he asked, shooting a wink back at Robin's friends. The titular DJ E had a small crew of like-dressed young men with him, each with similar hairstyles and wearing the same monogrammed shirt. The bartender checked Raina's ID, raised one eyebrow, then said, "Four cosmos, comin' up." He brought Raina the drinks and waited for both the money and his tip before nodding and handing her the drinks. As she collected the booze for her girls, Raina noticed something strange across the room - the pretty blonde in the see-through lace and garters (the one who was keeping two boys on a string at the same time) 'tinged' her magic senses; the shiny gold amulet the girl wore definitely was some kind of magical artifact. "Cor! I love your skin!" said a red-headed woman who approached Cathy, smiling warmly as she looked the ice controller over. "Is that yours, or did somebody do it? Honey, you look _gorgeous_," she said with a big smile, her bright blue eyes sparkling as she looked the ice controller up and down.
  5. Back in the Voidrunner, Aquaria helped deposit the prisoner in the ship's small holding cell. "Well!" She croaked cheerfully, turning to the others with a giant smile on her amphibious face, as Jessie stepped out of the cell, the prisoner's ersatz restraints in hand, "that's that!" Casually, she placed a hand on a wall sensor as the security field crackled to life, holding their prisoner in place - and activated the Voidrunner's internal communications systems. They weren't muted, there was never any reason to do that, and so the grand moment happened directly outside the cell of the recently arrested prisoner. The display hologram crackled to life, a glowing (albeit immaterial) barrier that divided Aquaria and Jessie from the others. The display, double-sided so both fugitives and bounty hunters could see it, showed The aquatic humanoid seemed to leap in front of the 'camera', screaming something that the displayed subtitles read as "No! Leave her alone, you monster! Space is full of MONSTERS!" Neglecting the double tridents she held in two long-fingered, triple-digited hands, the amphibious creature dealt out a savage kick that knocked the 'camera' backwards some half-a-dozen feet. An instant later, a blue flash seared the image almost dark, the displays on each side of the screen suddenly and almost immediately flat-lining. "For involvement in the murder of a Star Knight and suspected terrorist activities..." Aquaria and Jessie, in the awkward attempts at a full-body hologram that the computers had to make when no formal identification images had been made. "The Terrans Sea Devil aka Aquaria Innsmouth, Singularity, aka Jessie/Erin White..." A figure flashed to life, from the perspective of the Voidrunner crew forming a glowing halo around the real Aquaria and Jessie on the other side of the corridor. "...183,600 units of element 79, or the sum of 100 million credits, will be delivered if both can be brought alive and uninjured to the Grand Shipyards of Altinak C. Suspects are considered armed and dangerous." As the holograms began repeating themselves, Aquaria stared at the bounty hunters - and ignited her tridents. A hum of restless energy struck the air as she held the two weapons at her side, tines pointed up, and said, fear pulling at the edges of her deep voice, "That was us, wasn't it?! They told you about us! About all the lies!"
  6. Steve, who Erik had once seen carry on a conversation while absorbing the power of a house transformer, tensed slightly, gripping the loose fabric of the pants at his knees for just a moment. He opted, with some consideration, not to mention what he'd heard about the fight with Freebooter - Gina had never liked talking about the piratical cyberkinetic with him, so it likely wasn't an important factor anyway. "There was some friction over the Archetech name. I know that the events of that day," he need not name it here, "troubled you and your family afterwards." Gina had purged the company of Archeville's technology, his loyalists, and much else, but how convincing would that be to people who had been made slaves? "She wants you to know that those days are long gone," he went on, making the awkward hand gestures that meant he was trying to say something without having the correct words.
  7. Summers gave Jane a full rundown of life at the school, which now that she thought about it had at least been discussed in her presence on the way here. She'd be living in a co-ed floor of all girls in one of the building's two mixed dorm buildings, across the hall from two students named Cathy and Raina (the former of whom she'd already met). Classes would be scattered across the campus, with some in the classroom buildings, some in the gym, others outdoors "depending on your special circumstances," said the headmistress. "Now tell me," she asked, "What do you want to get out of your education?" She smiled thinly. "Any answer to that is all right, by the way. You don't have to please me."
  8. When Monsoon made her departure to fight her brother, Iyar looked around the fallen guards for a moment before seizing on one's weapon - a large, heavy-looking blaster pistol like those AEGIS agents had carried twenty years earlier. It seemed to fit her hand well as she worked the charging slide back and forth, a look of satisfaction on her dark, too-narrow face. Adjusting her headcovering until her dark hair was once again wrapped completely beneath it, she turned to Midnight and said defiantly, "The women down below have been held a year by Lord Typhoon. If any guards are not below, I will shoot them so that they will live to know Typhoon's wrath." She looked at Midnight and added, a touch suspiciously, "There is an army below and an al-Darsah above. What is Midnight?"
  9. Frost looked at Talya and shrugged, mouthing "Gods!" in Russian before heading up the bridge after Thrude. Up at the mouth of the Rainbow Bridge, Thrude's unexpected company had brought unexpected guards. In addition to Heimdall, two Valkyries stood on either side of the guardian god; one a stern-faced woman in heavy armor, wielding a massive sword that gleamed with the light of a brand-new blade, and the other the surprising figure of a striking young woman wielding a magical bow, who of all things bore the arcane marks of Loki about her. "Frost!" declared the older woman at Heimdall's side, pointing her blade at the icy Russian behind Thrude. "We warned you what would happen if you came to Asgard again! And made any more cracks about our women!" The young woman nodded at that, her bow obviously at the ready. "Hey, hey!" said Frost, his hands in the air with a demeanor that suggested he only mildly cared, "Lady Kriger, when I asked if your daughter had had any relations with Midgard, I did not mean it in insolent way! Look at her, she, what, is eighteen? What sort of man would make implications about honor of fine young warrior, eh?"
  10. It was among the most horrific things Kimber had ever seen. And then, from a curling waft of shadow that arose in the air like smoke, Tarva appeared. Despite the horrific circumstances, the shadow-witch was all business (relatively speaking), putting a hand on Kimber's arm and declaring, "My angel of the night - it's not real! _This_ is real!" And with that, she did something she'd done once before in public - grab Kimber by the body and pull her up to kiss her passionately on the lips. She never had been one put off by the presence of violence - real, or imagined. And it was imagined violence, because when she released Kimber, the horrible carnage all around her had faded. Instead, though Four was still gibbering in a corner, One and the illusionist who had so bedeviled her were standing in front of an opened deposit box, the former flipping through the pages of a leather-bound, gold-leafed text and taking pictures with a high-end digital camera. To their credit, the two of them didn't hesitate when they realized the jig was up. One called "Evac!" and in the space of a few seconds - One Even as the rest of the heroes made their hasty entrance into the building - Five and Two. The Power Corps, with the help of their teleporter - Three made their escape. Seven. And then the heroes were alone with their victory, and Tarva was looking around nervously, hastily smoothing her ornate black dress as she realized the circumstances she'd fallen into.
  11. COme back soon, missing people! We loves you!
  12. Hmm. Don't forget his Growth penalties to Attack and Defense. With +4 Attack and +4 Defense, he drops to +3 vs Medium characters (i.e. most characters) when his Growth comes out.
  13. Looks okay. Having read about life as an Uber driver, I can believe she would need the body armor! APPROVED
  14. "Well, we have been together for some time," said Steve carefully, making the little circular gestures with his hands that meant he was telling a story while leaving things out. It wasn't the first time Erik had seen him move like that when discussing his relationship with the gorgeous paragon. "Neither of us had a place to go for your Thanksgiving holiday before this year. It seemed a day for family." Which was true enough, given all that he'd seen about Gina and her family. "She had been concerned you did not like her." It was not unusual for Gina to believe that people did not like _her_, of course - but disliking Miss Americana was something else entirely. "As for the hockey game," he went on, "I think of...another version of the game. The men and their weapons, pitted together to win their game, but amidst a mighty winter storm, perhaps while great beasts battle each other in the names of their respective patrons. The sport would see men against men - and men, united, against gods." It was more poetic than Steve usually got - but this was an unusual conversation.
  15. "We believe that the being known as Aquaria was recruited by a radical interstellar terrorist organization known as the Spectrum Knights. I'm sure your sister was just an innocent victim of circumstance." Blunt manner or not, Frankan looked genuinely sympathetic as she spoke to the young Terran. "The Star Navy has recently hired this group of independent contractors to help track them down," she said, gesturing to Eclipse's crew, "along with the Star Knight Cavalier. We'll do everything we can to bring your sister home to you. The people of the Lor Republic...I, understand being separated from family." The Grand Nauarchus's cool demeanor cracked there, for just a moment. "The injures to your sister came when she was attacked by a member of the Spectrum Knights during a joint Star Knight-Praetorian operation against the Spectrum Knights. I'll let Star Knight Cavalier explain further," she said with a nod to Cavalier.
  16. "Anybody can do anything if you push them far enough," replied Riley with the conviction born of experience - the same experience that, for Robin, had taken her in a different direction. But philosophical disagreements weren't the same as personal disagreements - so there was no heat in his voice. He found himself gradually calming down under the influence of his shame - and Robin's presence. He was acutely aware that after months of trying to keep people from talking about it, he'd just gone ahead and made it the topic of conversation after yelling it at the top of his lungs. Goddamit. No more drinking. "Thanks, baby." He hugged Robin lightly, an apologetic look on his face. "I'll just...go back in. You take it easy, Fred, let me know if you need help." He pushed open the door to the rest of their group and headed inside, doing his best to keep his head held high. "Sorry, ever'body. Drank t'much." He hesitated a bare instant before adding, "Sorry, Phaedra."

  18. Caradoc stepped forward and sliced the spectral fiend across the midsection with his blade, the energy sword shrieking like a damned soul as it cut the entropic ghost across the chest, sending a spray of ichor into the air. "It does not live," he spoke to Oracle in a voice that sounded nothing at all like the shining knight he appeared to be, "nor has it ever. Strike it down with all of your fury!"
  19. "We're still trying to identify exactly what we've seen," said the Grand Nauarchus smoothly. Erin saw the white-haired woman press a button on the console in front of her and suddenly another hologram appeared on her end of things - it was evident back in the Shipyards that the Lor hadn't bothered to filter the message Erin was seeing. The aquatic humanoid seemed to leap in front of the 'camera', screaming something that the displayed subtitles read as "No! But the camera kept running, though, giving Wander a clear look at both the green-armored aquatic woman and the person she was protecting - a semi-conscious, battered-looking humanoid who looked very familiar indeed. "These are the two individuals that our agents encountered near the edge of the Galaxy," said the admiral, speaking slowly and clearly and using non-technical terms for the primitive. "Do they look familiar to you?"
  20. "This is a trap," spoke Harrier aloud so that Gina and Bombshell could hear, his cybernetically altered voice sounding like the creak of metal from the grave without the Caradoc disguise active. He advanced on the clones and their hostages with slow, deliberate intent. He saw the hostages, a family with children and two young women together, cowering in terror at his approach, at the glowing tip of his pike and the cold black Terminus steel of his armored body, and as he got close he moderated his initial plan to strike the one who had spoken with an overhead strike to the exposed face - directly interposing his blade between powered hand and all-too-human flesh. Instead, feet away from the mixed group of clones, he drove his still-glowing pike into the ground and growled, taking a chance. "Where is your master?" "Leading his armies on the Scarab!" declared the leading clone nearest Harrier, a muscular fellow matched by several equally bulky duplicates nearby. "When Heru-Ra is destroyed, then SHADOW will blot out the very sun!"
  21. Harrier: Move Action 1: Advances on the clones Move Action 2: Startles - DC 30 check! http://orokos.com/roll/354540 = 26 Clone Group 3 (the Fists-in-Shadow) are intimidated! They actually miss their turn, and so Bombshell has a chance to go.
  22. After a vigorous struggle, the Voidrunners and their new friends subdued the 'priest' - whatever his power was, he only seemed to be able to use it on one being at a time, and the group en masse was too much for him to handle. Sea Devil and Singularity had both contributed to the fight, Aquaria by leaping in and giving the guy some solid kicks to the midsection, while Jessie had stayed in the fight, delivering powerful head-punches, right to the very end. By the end of the encounter, the alleged mentat was unconscious and covered with several marks of laser fire, as well as a nice set of bruises that left one eye swollen shut and several teeth missing. Jessie, with her her fantastic strength, had even picked up a steel beam and wrapped it around the man's legs, making sure there would be no easy escape. There were steel beams aplenty - because between one thing and another, the tavern was now on fire. The local lowlifes had all fled at the first sign of danger, of course, leaving the hard-working bounty hunters to subdue the rampaging foe while at the same time trying to fight the flames. They'd done the first better than the other, naturally enough, albeit at the cost of some property damage. Luckily, nothing else seemed to be burning save the storage shed out back where the proprietor had no doubt brewed his unlikely concoctions. Standing outside and watching the flames, Aquaria put her big hands over her even bigger mouth and looked at the others in alarm. "Will we be in trouble?"
  23. There was a time, when they were younger, that a delay like this would have left Fast-Forward (and by extension Hologram, because she'd have had to deal with it) an increasing combination of bored and frustrated, no doubt zipping around their convoy and sniping at everyone, or perhaps rushing off into the Desert alone and getting himself hurt. But he was a grown man now, the father of a young man heading off to college, past fifty himself, and that meant he had a certain amount of maturity. And so it was that when Hologram went looking for him, psionically or otherwise, she found him back in their rented RV, entertaining the wide-eyed kids of their local-unit producer (Garid, a film school grad from Ulan Bataar they'd hired for the shoot) with exaggerated stories about the adventures of Hologram and Fast-Forward. If this keeps up, he suggested in between stories of how Hologram and Fast-Forward had defeated Archer by the clever application of a glue bomb to his pants, let's just take the cameras into the desert ourselves. You can feel anything coming long before those damn sonar detectors can, and I can get us out of the way of anything that isn't an angry Velocity. He had a few other ideas about what they could get up to in the desert while they were at it, assuming they brought along camping gear and found a suitably comfortable nighttime spot, but nothing he was going to dwell on while they were both having conversations with other people. Not that he was worried about anyone listening in, so far from any telepaths, but he liked to have Paige's undivided attention for this kind of mental conversation.
  24. "The name confused me upon hearing it," said Steve with great frankness, "especially once I learned that it came not from some ancient custom but rather that it was slang." He folded his hands before him and said seriously, "But despite that, I believe the shootout provides the greatest and most edifying drama for those who watch the sport." He kept shooting glances over at the kitchen, nervous ones as he thought about Gina alone inside the robot there, but kept his attention focused on the conversation he was having with Erik. "So..." He considered asking if Erik's Gina had heard about the new relationship yet, but quickly discarded that idea - if not, the secret would here be given away. His hands pulled at his pants-covered knees for a moment as he considered what to say, "I have often thought there should be...super-powered athletics in greater quantity. Imagine these men," he said with a nod to the television, "playing in a storm created by Thrude or Comrade Frost."
