  1. Riley was obviously on edge in the elevator, standing with his back to the wall and eyeing the others warily. He'd climbed his share of elevator shafts in his time - but only ridden in elevators themselves once or twice. It was an unsettling experience if you were used to more open settings, especially given his experience with these as tight, narrow, rusted-out deathtraps. "Surebefine," he said, his words ramming together like bolts sliding into a crossbow's magazine, the way they typically did when he was feeling stressed. He looked around at the others, at the metal-skinned coach, then suddenly his eyes narrowed. "Wait a minute - there are tunnels under this place. Son of a-" Turning to the coach, he said "These come out anywhere? Other partsa the city?" The question seemed urgent, but he kept his cool. "Gotta map of 'em?"
  2. Harrier goes on 19 - looks like he goes higher than the Shrieker, what with his higher modifier.
  3. Aquaria made a noise somewhere between a growl and a croak, a deep bass rumble that shook the air. The sharks, and other creatures that spoke the languages of the deep, distinctly understood her cry as "Hey! What's your problem!?" Scrabbling rearfirst up the side of the pier, she planted her forelegs and kicked powerfully with her back, striking the shark in its midsection. The cartilage was weak there, she knew, and she heard the familiar, satisfying crunch of gills rupturing and flesh tearing, along with the ominous sound of metal snapping. "It's dead! Drop it!" she said to Jessie before she reached the deck of the pier again. From there she crouched on all fours and leaped impossibly far, her powerful back legs propelling her into the middle of the screaming crowd. "I think I heard something over by the...big wheel thing!"
  4. I'll just take a 19 with Skill Mastery.
  5. Free Action: Yell at the sharks! Standard Action: Kick the one that tried to bite Singularity http://orokos.com/roll/326820 = 17 DC 21 Tou save for the shark. Move Action: Leap away, onto the dock!
  6. Steve could tell some of Miss Americana's mannerisms were slipping into Gina in the outside. Gina generally did not use the word "make-out" sessions to describe their sex life. "We can discuss that later in intimate detail - perhaps on your desk." He had a feeling this would not be a day that ended that way, but for a chance to take Gina outside he was willing to make the sacrifice. He kept them moving, not wanting her to linger too long in one spot and growing affrighted of it. "Almost five years we've been doing that," he commented. Emotion came, suddenly, perhaps drawn by Gina's emotional nakedness. "I would by now have died on Nihilor but for you."
  7. Once they were all out of the elevator, Aquaria hunched over a little, wringing her long fingers together with a faintly slippery sound. She'd paused to rub herself down with lotion when they were putting groceries away, and her green-white skin glistened in the light of the interior of the castle. When she caught sight of an exterior-facing window, though, she gasped and placed her fingers across it, all but plastering her wide froggy face against the reinforced glass. "We're so high up," she croaked, yellow-black eyes wide as she studied the land far below. "Jessie, look!" She pointed, knowing the heights might help relieve her friend's occasional claustrophobia - a trait they both had in common. As they looked, she sang, her voice dropping to a deep bass as her throat swelled, "Oh Mother Hydra; Father Dagon too; listen to me sing your names, oh so far from you..." She trailed off quietly and turned to face Indira, her amphibian visage set in a smile. "Uh, sorry. Lead the way!"
  8. Fast-Forward visualized some sort of plane flying over his head. "Okay, sure," he said brightly, "that makes sense. I'll keep that in mind if we ever get someone from your line of work on the show." He shook his head. "Speaking of demon summoning, back in the 80s, Paige and I actually rented a room from a Satanist for a while. Weird guy, fun at parties. He just up and disappeared one day, though, and when we went looking there was a big pentagram on the floor and everything smelled like crap. So we cleared out and I guess he hasn't been seen since. Weird times." He sighed, looking back on the memory. "You know, there's a gentrified apartment building in that neighborhood now, and some kind of artisanal cheese restaurant? Bunch of hipster kids riding around on their Segways listening to their Shania Twain." He shook his head. "Kids these days. Not you, buddy!" he added to JJ. "You seem all right. And you too," he said to Taylor. "We'll blur out anything you wanna say on the show that might be too fresh for the ears of impressionable viewers. Like we did for the pocket nuke episode."
  9. Riley is made for dimensional shenanigans
  10. Riley was wearing the school uniform. Well, sort of. He'd been fully prepared to make his own dye and had even started collecting the walnut hulls and coffee grounds necessary to do it, but an offhand comment to the shop teacher had gotten him access to a full kit of both natural and artificially-prepared dyes. So his Claremont uniform had brown and green where most versions had blue and yellow, offhandedly matching his green and brown poncho that he wore draped over his small, wiry body. "Hey," he said to Robin, a smile lighting his face and eyes at the sight of her. "You look nice." He reached down and lightly squeezed her hand. "Training just got a lot more interesting," he went on. He was wearing the hatchet and crossbow that were the usual additions to his ensemble on schoolgrounds, the former on his hip and the latter slung over his back.
  11. "Crossbows too! Man, my first day here, the ladies were going crazy for this bad boy." He patted his weapon. "Asked me about making it, about what I had in it, all the good stuff. I guess all they see around here are people with powers, not somebody who has to make it the hard way. Uh, no offense or anything," he added quickly, not knowing how his obviously superpowered associate would take those words. "I just...I don't know a lot of people with superpowers where I'm from, so bein' here at hero high, bein' around people with powers, is kindanew. Bowman got me into Claremont, but he's the only superhero I've ever met." As he talked, he set his bow aside and dropped to the floor, where through pushups he continued his conversation with his new roommate. "How 'bout you? There a lot of superheroes where you come from?"
  12. "Aw, we can reclaim those colors," offered Mark, but he didn't press the subject past Trevor's dislike of the idea. He's probably worried I'd try and change his costume too! A sensible worry - Trevor had worked hard for his look. "Well, I know some people in fashion," he offered Alex, "I could get you and Mike set up with some consultants. I've actually made a couple of sketches myself of different looks for you guys," he admitted to Mike and Alex. "My mom helped out, so they're professional-quality." He sipped his coffee. "And Nina actually likes you guys! She talks about AEON a lot; how you're using your superpowers for economic and cultural power, and that's something she thinks makes a lot of sense, what with..." He waved his hand. "But, uh, I've told her she's wrong about the private army thing, so don't worry about that!"
  13. Jack Faretti made a conscious point to walk over to Erik Espadas and clap him on the shoulder, shaking his hand firmly and smiling at his family without even showing a hint of teeth. He shot a There, see? look back his wife's way before saying, "Good to see you, Erik. And family," he added with a nod for the others. "Got the whole clan out, eh?" Whatever previous differences there had been, the men were certainly doing their best to make bygones be bygones. Richard zipped around, shaking everybody's hand. In his pastel jacket and acid-washed jeans (the better to fit in a natural setting), he certainly made quite the fashion statement. "Hey, all!" Ugh, I can't believe they know that doctor guy better than they do me. Man, what are the kids watching these days. "Paige and Will are over on the West Coast," he called over to Taylor, "so it's just me and Holly-girl today." He was making friendly, albeit perfunctory greetings towards the Espadas clan when he was surprised to hear Holly exclaim behind him, "...Yolanda?!" The two girls, tall and blonde and short and stocky, were looking at each other with the sort of icy coolness he associated with an especial target of Holly's ire. "Is anyone else from Nicholson here?" Holly asked, looking up at her dad. "Nope," said Yolanda, releasing her mothers' hands so she could fold her arms and glare at Holly. "Just me." "Well, that's great, ha-ha, you kids know each other," said Richard, clapping his hands together. "Honey, why don't you go get yourself a diet soda from the cooler over there? Better it goes in you than one of those little kids there."
  14. The ankh flashed past Set again, its passage so close as to ruffle his hair. Was he being toyed with; or was this creature a more inferior copy of Horus than he'd thought? No matter - the ankh snapped back into the false Horus's hand just as Monsoon took up a position behind and above Set, riding on a cloud of broken water main. "Foolish god!" she called in a Gulf Arabic that Set, amid a day of surprises, recognized as having heard before. "Even in this mountain fastness, you face the power of the oceans unleashed!" Horus was about to respond when a meteor hit him. There was no other way to describe it - there was a flash of light in the sky, a faint boom, and suddenly Horus was tumbling out of the sky in the company of a large, cratered rock about the size of the man himself. As Horus fell, his ankh fell too, landing practically at Set's feet even as 'god' and divinely-aimed boulder hit the dirt with a definitive thump. Well, the rock did, anyway - Horus appeared to have landed on a giant air mattress that had literally appeared from nowhere. "Got him!" said Edge triumphantly, Mark exulting after one of the longest battles of his career. "Babe, we did it!" Damaged city or not, damaged monastery or not, he swept Nina up in a passionate kiss, the couple distracted for a moment with the battle over and the day saved.
  15. "Yeah! The Liberty League stands for truth, justice, and the American way! And that means we treat everybody fair and square!" said Mark with some vigor, raising his coffee cup to match the toast. Mark had gotten into somewhat heated arguments back in high school about how the Liberty League hadn't gotten bogged down in the stupid prejudices of the Second World War period - which was true enough, but maybe Mark had defended them with a little too much vigor. "Of course, Mike and I do have that color-matching thing," he said doubtfully. "We don't want people thinking we're siblings or something...ahah!" He snapped his fingers, looking proudly from one face to the other of his friends. "We do a patriotic thing! Red white and blue! C'mon, Mike, do you have a quarter?" He sat up straight, fumbling around in his own pockets for a moment before coming up with a shiny dollar coin. "Okay, heads, I go all-American, tails, you do. Ready?"
  16. Riley looked levelly up at Huang - this being an interaction he could understand better than he could the girls all flirting with him. What the hell is this asshole's problem? "Any time, any place," he said bluntly. He hesitated a moment, wondering how far to take it, before adding to the girls, "Look, I gotta go find my roommate and put my stuff down." He managed a smile and wink as he fastened his crossbow behind his back again. "I'll see you ladies later." And with that, he turned and headed for the nearby dorm, not even bothering to consult a map as he went. He'd made sure to memorize the terrain even before he got there.
  17. Tou save: http://orokos.com/roll/326478 = 15 Well, crap! I'll HP that one. http://orokos.com/roll/326479 = 33 Made it - but gonna need to change strategies here.
  18. It was something of a fractious day in the Cline family. Richard would have rather been at Will's track meet at UCLA, but after the Incident Paige thought it was best he avoid somewhere his son was competing against other boys when cameras were about, even if that had been the fault of that stupid dumbass line judge rather than any fault of his. So instead Richard and his youngest child were visiting Sanctuary, a lovely world that was certainly full of surprises. Richard was zipping around with his vintage Polaroid, taking pictures of everything, while Holly trotted along after him with an unhappy look on her face. Having grown up when her parents had money and lived in a nice house, both in LA and Freedom City, and who had only seen the outdoors at length at high Mach speeds during family trips, Holly was not an outdoorsy type. "C'mon, Dad, let's just speed it up a _little_?" she asked him crossing her arms over her Nicholson sweatshirt. "The map says it's another half mile! You already ran two-thirds of the way there." The words were inclined to prick at Richard's impatience - and so they did. "...all right, fine. We'll make up the time later." He reached down and took Holly's hand. "There's a whole world out there! You've gotta-" He ran, and the forest path vanished in an instant, replaced with a busy clearing with a happy-looking home inside it. Taking in the scene in an instant, one of the most famous ex-villains in the United States popped up right in front of the new guy. "-see it a little!" he was saying as they zipped into view among the other heroes. "Hey there! Richard Cline. You must be Elis Sanford! This is my daughter Holly." Holly had hit quite a growth spurt recently, making her ( for a ten year old) a tall, gawky 4 foot 10 with the promise of more later if her dad was any guide. She smiled the bright, tight smile of a kid in the public eye and shook Elis' hand. Behind him, Jack Faretti seemed to reappear from behind the tree where he'd secreted himself, releasing a startled JJ who declared "Dad! You surprised me!" before running back to join the other kids. Jack walked back over to join his wife, shooting Stesha a cautious look before finishing, "Glad to be here, Stesha. Love what you've done with the place," he commented.
  19. "And all the BLOOD would come out!" exclaimed JJ excitedly, gesturing emphatically to show where the blood would come gushing out of a punctured heart. "And you would DIE!" For all his barely suppressed energy, Jack noticeably hung back as they started on their way to Stesha's house. "JJ, don't be disgusting," he said with gentle firmness. "You'll give our guests upset stomachs if you talk about things like that." He took his wife's hand, enjoying the summer breeze and her company, even if he didn't have to like the natural air all around them. He was not, by any stretch of the imagination, a country boy. "I heard there's a dragon here too. She's on the Freedom League," he added for the benefit of the kids.
  20. "Mama!" A small boy of about five was waiting for them on the other side of the portal, wearing black sunglasses, black jeans, and a black hoodie with a picture of a cheerful yellow bee on it. It was blatantly obvious to Taylor that Jack had dressed his son - particularly since Jack Sr. was dressed the same way - minus the bee, anyway. "I missed you SO MUCH!" he lisped while running forward like a rocket to dive right at Taylor's legs, naturally trusting his mom would be there to stop him. "Daddy says there are giant BEES and I can RIDE one if I'm GOOD!" He hugged Taylor with the bone-crushing enthusiasm of a little boy, hardly noticing the others. "Isn't that AMAZING?" Lingering on the forest path for a moment, Jack Sr. stalked towards the new arrivals before leaning over and pecking his wife on the lips. "Hey, beautiful. Your son has run back and forth from here to the oak tree about five times in the last five minutes." The oak tree in question marked the end of the forest path they were on, heading towards a half-visible community one could just make out through the trees. "It was an _apple juice day_ at Nicholson," he commented significantly.
  21. Horus throws his hammer at Sekhmet! He would really rather target Set because of the voices in his head, but she's really going for him! http://orokos.com/roll/325719 = 18, which is 16 with the demoralize, so that misses. Have an HP for him acting despite the dazed. New round! Monsoon is up. Being a people person, she chooses to Aid Set's Defense. That works automatically, so he gets +2 next time. Edge is up. He crits vs. Horus! http://orokos.com/roll/325723 = 20 Horus is unconscious.
  22. Sorry for the delay, all - things have been pretty crazy. Arcturus: 23 Neptune: 19 Starlight: 6 Arcturus is up. Sho: You think you can repair the ship! It's going to take a significant amount of work, and a Craft: Mechanical roll at DC 25, but you can make it happen. You do have, though, the unsettling feeling that you are no longer alone in the vessel's engine room! Go ahead and post.
  23. Aquaria goes on 6, blargh! http://orokos.com/roll/325711
  24. Aquaria crouched on the wooden beam, looking for a moment like an amphibian gargoyle. "They don't need a reason to hurt me," she said with great feeling, the low rumble of her multi-chambered throat as she spoke. "They take and they take and they take, and they live in palaces and eat food whenever they want. When we try and get a little for ourselves, they hunt us with spears and nets. They probably thought they could start trouble with me and send me to Blackstone, or take me to an Atlantean prison..." She trailed off at that horrific image. "Erin's a Surfacer, she probably thinks the Atlanteans are just like Surfacers who live under the ocean. That's the lie they tell everyone." She scrubbed a three-fingered hand across her face and admitted, "It's weird Nereid didn't try and get in the fight. She was the one who caught me in the first place." Her lips pulled back, far, an unpleasant expression. "Maybe the big one was new in town, and they wanted to show her who she could beat up. But we beat them, didn't we? And we did it the nice way, too." As she spoke, she leaned forward and started climbing on all fours, head-down, towards the welcoming water below.
