Upstairs, things weren't going very well. Erin and Eric were in her bedroom and quietly talking, but despite his interest in helping, there wasn't much Eric could do about this. Gentle and sweet though he was, Eric Buhari was a second-generation immigrant who lived in a prosperous, liberal part of the country. He'd never faced anything more serious than worrying about his grades or whether or not his girlfriend would say yes when he popped the question. As much as he wanted to help someone like Jessie, he just didn't have the tools. So he stayed back and let his Erin (and how many versions of her were there, anyway?) do the talking. "The other Erin was like you," she finally said, pitching her voice loud enough that Jessie could hear. "I know this must be scary and strange - and I wish I knew how to make it better." She caught a glimpse of what she thought was snow shifting off the roof outside, but stayed focused on her counterpart. "How have you been? I heard you were living in a new facility these last few years." - "You're right," agreed Mark as he studied his creation, addressing Nina alongside him. "The black dye looks terrible in the snowman even if it is liquorice-flavored. All right, let's scrap the snowcone thing and just make a big sculpture. Ooh, maybe that hero snowman thing..."

"I hahahave seen alliances of many worlds spheres systems before," said the Gorgon coldly, and indeed she had - many of them directed against her! "I understandstandstand your pleas, Terran Delazatri Tratratraveler." Her head started jerking to one side, flashes of her mummified corpse appearing at each turn, mouth fallen open in a silent, eternal scream. It wasn't hard to do the math - had she been there for two million years, the nameless being who looked so hauntingly familiar, who had perhaps become the Preserver of Worlds? "The cccreation of my sister-dddaughter-army dddoes require the sacsacsacrifice of mmmany worlds in orororder to Preprepreserve the larger Galaxy." She leaned forward, fixing her eyes on the Traveler as best as her shaky projection allowed. "What do you rerequire and what sacsacsacrifice will you make in return?"

Personality: Aquaria is mostly peppy and upbeat, with her effort to look on the bright side one of the ways that she keeps herself sane in this crazy Surface world. She does her best to be somebody that nobody would ever be afraid of - even though she looks pretty bizarre. She's loyal, brave, and smarter than she looks. She gets nervous and quiet around law enforcement officials, not wanting to get into another fight with them. She gets angry around Atlanteans, really angry, but hides that by running away so that she doesn't get into fights with them. Her biggest fear is going back to jail - or having to Go Below again without help. Her homely appearance means that she's not the target of a lot of serious romantic attention - if she ever was, she would probably start giggling uncontrollably. She knows how Surfacers mate and that's gross, haha, what's up with that? When she's nervous, she eats - usually a passing bird or snatched bit of edible matter from nearby. She can eat bugs but usually doesn't - it's not worth the trouble unless she's superbored. When she catches a small animal, she usually eats it all, bones included - something she's learned most Surfacers would rather not watch. Jessie is fine with it, though. Aquaria's secret desire is to save her people - to free the Dark Brothers of their worship of the darker aspects of Mother Hydra and Father Dagon, unite the Dark Brothers and the People, and to get Atlanteans to stop attacking them so much. But she's acutely aware that she has neither the power nor the knowledge of how to do this. She's just one Deep One!

Take me out to the DEATH GAME

April 3, 2015 9PM It's springtime in Sapporo and the tourists have departed. The winter season that brings so much snow to this city of nearly two million has ended, bringing an end to the snow sculptures and snow festivals, and the cool moist spring has settled in comfortably here on the shores of Ishikari Bay. The big news in the city today is the recent beginning of baseball season - the famous Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters are playing a special exhibition game with the visiting Freedom City Comets, who themselves are on their way back to Freedom City tomorrow to begin their North American season with a game against Detroit. The 40,000 seats in the Sapporo Dome are packed with local fans and American "super-fans" from Freedom City who have flown in for the special game, many of them following the usual Freedom City pattern of wearing exaggerated superhero costumes alongside the usual Comets merch. It's a big day, and much to the delight of the home crowd, the Fighters are pulling ahead of their American antagonists. (The team's rivalry is old and arcane, as the best sports rivalries are, dating back to the early days of the Comets franchise in the 1950s when they clashed with the visiting Nippon-Ham Fighters in the West Coast of the US) Outside the rest of the city is bustling along quietly, though the cool, wet fog that's settled over most of the town tonight has kept many of the usual late-Friday-night crowd home or at least inside their favored establishments. Fishing is big here and you can walk into a local restaurant to find freshly-caught sea urchin, salmon, or crab on the menu, or perhaps the famous local jingisukan lamb barbecue. From the taller buildings in town you can see the mountains rising off to the east. Hokkaido has been 'tamed' since the late 19th century when American experts helped the Japanese government exterminate much of the local wildlife during the Meiji period, but at night when the Moon rises over the distant mountains of the island, glimpses of the old Hokkaido can be seen in the forest beyond. Inside the stadium, it's the seventh-inning stretch; a good time to wander up to the concession stand and get a beer or some soup curry, or maybe just sit in the stands and curse that bastard Kataoka and his murderous right arm. Errors by his own team have meant that the Nippon-Ham Fighters pitcher hasn't quite thrown a perfect game - but he's come close! The Comets have kept the Fighters dancing too, but the score is 18-9, and the Comets are going to have to pull off a miracle to win this one!
