"NO!" came Citizen's startled exclamation over the intercom, the horror in his voice burning hot as he saw the building fall, the tremendous structure crashing against others as it fell and tearing open more holes in their structure, his mind flashing to the closely-packed districts of Tronik and the apocalypse such a fall would be there. Not that things were any better here! How many thousands had just died as he watched, helpless to do anything more than flee? He remembered the Curator's craft in the skies over his own Tronik, the horror of the dissolution of his people under all-too-similar circumstances - even if that horror had come all through the secondhand viewing of another Sharl's fight to the death. "Not again!" The car wobbled frantically in the air before zipping back towards the Vox, flying in tight circles around the exterior superstructure of the vast building to avoid being directly targeted. "I'll fly this thing into space if I have to!"

That's Wildcard, the Crime League member! Not sure what his powers are, but he's always happy-go-lucky and wears a jester's outfit. Amiable guy, for a career criminal. Can't fly?

Flying close to the black craft as it hung aboard the prison transport, Stronghold was confronted by a sleek stealthy craft that looked military - or maybe more than military. The grasping triple arms that were now securing the Learjet certainly weren't military-issue - big, heavy bars that had wrapped themselves around the sides of the plane without actually crumpling the lightweight aluminum. It wasn't hard to read the message that one wrong move would see the flight crumple like tinfoil. Meanwhile, the sides were a solid matte black that reflected no light as she got close, with no sign of the craft's propulsion systems. The craft was featureless and nearly soundless, with only a faint hum as she flew close against its surface. The only feature on the otherwise unremarkable triangle was a transparent bubble on top that, when she flew especially close, turned out to have a man's face inside it! Flying the craft turned out to be, of all things, a man in what looked like a jester's hat. He waved at her cheerfully through the glass, his hand and a smile just visible, and seemed to be the most careless hijacker in the world! Meanwhile, Foreshadow used all his force to pry open the airplane door, the rush from even the slowed plane's flight tearing it quickly out of his hands and off entirely as soon as the seal was cracked! Luckily they were low enough, as he had foreseen, that there was no movie-style rush of air or collapse - just a strong wind now rushing through the plane that the strapped-in prisoners and their carefully manuevering guards could easily enough deal with. "Hey, don't leave me in here!" yelled Ember as he fired his grapple gun, lodging the dart in what on closer inspection was an almost invisible baffle - perhaps one used in piloting the craft. "What are you doing, flying away to your Foreshadowmobile? You cowardly flat-" and then her voice was lost as he swung out into open air!

Hah, she doesn't think I'm from that stupid 2-D movie! "No, I'm, uh, from an isolate," he said, remembering the Lor term for planets cut off from Republic society for whatever reason. Which is certainly true. "I'm Sharl Tulink of Tronik." He had to force himself to talk - the crowded car was familiar enough, but not the idea that everyone would be engaging in conversation with each other while on board. "Listen, you look important," he told her seriously. "Do you have any idea what's going on? I heard there was an alien-!" He gasped in surprise at the explosion in the sky, and heard curses from the seasoned soldiers at his side. As well they should - who would ever expect _this_ in the skies over Lor-Van? Suddenly, to everyone's alarm, the hovercar shifted to a halt - the hovering buoys that had been guiding their travel back to the Vox shifting to infrared broadcasts that signaled systems failure rather than any particular color. Sharl heard Vorka yelling something about the "farking traffic control network is down!" just as the air around them seemed to go wild with speeding cars, flashing lights, and the ominous sound of colliding metal. Non-telepath or not, Sharl could read the situation instantly. Everyone in the lane, and all the lanes around them, all had the simultaneous idea of deactivating their link to the malfunctioning traffic control systems and speeding to their evacuation point - which meant the sky was suddenly alive with panicked, nearly-crashing hovercars! "I can't disengage!" called Milo, "the manual piloting circuits were locked into traffic control just as the system failed!" Sure enough, looking out the window, Sharl could see that they weren't alone in their predicaments - dozens of cars were stuck and immobile, sitting ducks for the hovercars now speeding around like madmen. "You can't," Sharl agreed, rising to his feet. "But I can! This is a job for Citizen!" His chest flared to life as his electric-blue symbol glowed brightly and without another word he turned and dived into the control systems of the hovercar! Outside there was nothing, just a sudden electric-blue overlay over all the malfunctioning control systems, but inside Sharl was (by main force) imagining a hovercar into life around him inside the system! Behind the stick, his hands on the controls inside the system, he called to the others, "Time to fly!" And then, the car's exterior emblazoned with the 'wireless' symbol of Citizen, their car zipped straight up out of the wild scrum, swooping past other vehicles with programmed ease as they made their way towards the distant, looming towers of the Vox.

Everything aboard the plane, from the pilots in front to the restroom in the back, looked perfectly normal. The other passengers, a murderer from Hoboken, a bank robber from Jersey City, and some gang members from Hoboken, were unhooded now that the plane was in flight and looking around with some concern (when they weren't shooting murderous glances at Ember Psion), but Frances herself seemed to be the only one fully tuned in to Foreshadow's suspicions. "Hey, it's not me!" she exclaimed when he passed by her section of the plane, "I didn't even want to be on this stupid thing anyway..." Her guard on the outside seat, who happened to be the senior Blackguard there, rose as Foreshadow went by and asked, "Is there anything we can do to help?" Suddenly, there was a great whomp and the whole plane shook as if caught in a giaht's fist, nearly knocking down Foreshadow and sending his would-be ally sprawling bonelessly to the ground as her head smashed against an overhead compartment! Looking out the windows, he could see black, metallic arms on either side reaching down to cover the plane! The plane was veering at a wild angle now, forcing Foreshadow to grab on for dear life. - Outside, Stronghold watched in horror as a black triangular airplane rippled into visibility just above the Learjet and clamped _down_ with two giant claws on each side, veering across her field of vision (and no longer away from her) as it grabbed onto the prison transport. In her mind, Chase Atom cursed explosively. "Damn! Everything we feared might happen is happening. That's one of the new Crime League stealth planes - who knows how long they've been shadowing us? Listen, Stronghold, we're here on-scene in our stealth Atomcraft - but if we decloak, they'll violently disengage and they may tear the plane to pieces. Can you handle this as our 'face' until it's safe for the Atoms to go into action alongside you?" - Richard Cline started the whole day sitting in the living room watching football in his sweats. He was up, and in costume, by the time the echoes of Paige's shout had stopped bouncing off the walls - and the two of them were together out the door in just another few heartbeats. A hundred miles took Fast-Forward, even with a companion, a little more than half a minute. The hardest part was figuring out exactly where was the plane - something Hologram was able to solve by scanning the sky until they were directly underneath the prison transport. Dodging around a time-stopped farmers' field in eastern New York, they managed to find their target - an instant before a big black plane with claws like a gigantic mechanical bird appeared above the prison craft and grabbed on! From up above, as Paige reached out, came Frances' profane thought - Ohshtohshtosht they'd better be breaking me out or I'm gonna die! There was someone else in the sky too, an orange glow of a flier streaking around up there that Fast-Forward and Hologram recognized as the heroine Stronghold (they'd met during a consultancy months earlier) - but the black plane itself was ominously shielded against psychic probing.

If I am not alone, thought Gargantua warily. I have known so much...I cannot stand alone against those who would hurt me - even my own people. Harridan didn't look like he liked the idea of approaching the house alone - if it was possible to read a gorilla's facial expressions. But confronted with two powerful superheroes, one representing the Freedom League and the other representing the United Nations, he nodded in assent and loped off behind the heroes. It wasn't that he was slow, they'd seen the speed of the gorillas already; he seemed to be taking them as an escort! Cautiously, Mark led the way towards the building where Hologram and Gargantua were sheltering. He'd seen how traumatized the gorilla inside was, and so played things carefully - knocking on the door despite the harrumph from their escort.

Mark uses his Create Object effect. Create Object 12 (summoning; Extra: Duration [Continous], PFs: Innate, Precise, Selective, Variable Descriptor 2 [summoned objects]) {41/49} like so! Wander is up.

"Wait, what are we doing now?" Sharl had dealt with crisis situations before, but he'd always been able to transform into Citizen and deal with bad guys by punching them. Caught outside his own system, without the time to adjust his program to be anything more than a hard-light projection to these people, he was jittery, not knowing what was coming next. The fact that his two pilots were now turning around and bringing the hovercar to a halt only made him more tense. From the rising number of cars taking off and zipping past their vehicle, it surely wasn't that the sudden crisis was now over. "Didn't you hear the call?" asked Milo curiously as Vorka-13 pulled them down to where another armored figure was holding a badge aloft. "Oh geez, is it that telepathy thing again?" Sharl shook his head. "No, I don't have anything for telepathy to read. Just a machine, remember?" He smiled thinly, trying to distract himself, as the hovercar's doors slid open.

"Oh , grande dame! Merci à tous les saints. Je dois avoir été mis dans le noir ! Il ya Dévoreurs dans les bois , une invasion de sauterelles faute!" He threw himself to the ground at Fleur's feet, practically clutching at her like a lifeline. What could he have seen to so rattle someone who had grown up on one of the Hundred Worlds? Looking down, she saw a youngish man, perhaps in his early twenties, with a look of terror still in his eyes. When she didn't seem to understand him, he slowly picked out, "The spirit world has fallen! The insects have come!" Frost paid no attention to the chase, instead remaining at the scene of the portal. He sat on the ground and took his knife in one hand, holding his palm against the blade with the other. "<Open to the gaze of Hel,>" he hissed at the gate as he carved runic symbols into his palm, the sharp doctor's knife leaving behind long cuts that did not bleed but instead stood out black on his skin. "<They have eaten of your dish Hunger and wielded your knife Famine! How have they come to this place, Lady of Death?>" he inquired before plunging his opened skin against the raw earth of Sanctuary, his body outlined by the faint unwholesome glow of the portal.

Fleur's use of ESP lets her see there is indeed someone running through the woods - not towards the village (which is why no one else has heard it) but someone running away out of the forest and towards the uncleared lands beyond! Gabriel, tapping in audibly, can hear the person crashing through the forest and gasping "Oh St. Peter and Legba, protect your servant from his sins, oh no, oh no" over and over again in mortal terror! Tiamat - you get this. A short, slender man with black eyes and hair that she vaguely recognizes as being one of the new arrivals is here performing some kind of magical ritual - it appears to be a prayer to his god Legba, the guardian of the spirit world. But something seems to go very, very wrong as his prayers are interrupted by the sound of insectile buzzing and the whining of giant mosquitos! Rather than stick around as some foolish wizards might, he turns and runs like hell as the portal tears open, calling on his gods to protect him in his terror!

"Anopheles cult exists on Earth," said Frost, his voice tight. "Or did, in Russia. Attempted to open gateway underneath Degelen Mountains in 1950s - but they were destroyed." He stared at the gate, his red eyes hard beneath his hood. "I will stay here and concentrate on gate, I think. This is odd," he agreed with Tiamat. "Especially since gate does not close at Fleur de Joie's command. Anopheles buzz in the ears of cultists and offer them power, they do not simply appear in the middle of forest and waylay passing bees, even great ones." Reaching into his parka, he pulled out the same utility knife he'd used to castrate a bull earlier in the day and knelt over the scorched earth, tracing arcane designs with the tip. "I will try and trace this portal back to its roots. Perhaps the Anopheles was summoned elsewhere and hijacked a third party's dimensional transportation...this will likely be some time." "HEARD HUMAN VOIZEZ IN THE WOODZ," said Super-Bee, stepping back and forth on legs taller than a man's body. "DIDN'T ZEEM RIGHT, ZO I GOT THE ZQUAD AND CAME TO INVEZTIGATE. WHEN WE WERE BACK HERE, THERE WAZ ONLY THE HOLE, AND THAT...THING!"

As Eve slid the device home, she distinctly felt a vibration against her fingers and heard the subvocal sounds Synchronizing! The Furion AI sank partway into the control panel and began to swivel wildly back and forth; the overall effect like watching an eye suddenly 'wake up" , especially when a distinct blue glow arose from the side of the sphere still facing them. "I am here to assist you; I am Bluebird and I am your...Oh no!" came a voice that sounded young, excited, and definitely male. "Oh no, this isn't good! The Fleet and her friends in peril!" The whole of the control panel flashed blue and the irising door opened, even as another spatter of falling nanite solution hit the unprotected platform outside. They had seconds to act, if that! "Quick, we've got to get out of here! It's safer out there!" Arrows flared to life on the wall nearby, pointing to the open door. "Solution release is now! Go, go!" Once they were all outside, taking shelter in what turned out to be a tiny room with no visible outlets, the door slammed shut behind them just as the whitish-grey mass of countless trillions of nanites came crashing down in a tidal wave of horror! As the nanite wave smashed itself uselessly against the door and the team took stock of where they were - Bluebird made a rude sound. "Hah! No flood can stop us!"

There'd been a diversion right at the beginning when both the Quesitor and Sharl's guards had left, but now the Citizen of Tronik was in fine form. The plan wasn't particularly complicated, much to Sharl's relief, and his audience was watching him with fascination - he couldn't tell if it was because of the plan he'd carefully assembled over the last several months...or because so many of them had never seen a sentient AI. Evidently it wasn't something widely embraced by the Lor of this time. "So as you can see," Sharl was saying, "it's a simple matter of taking terraforming technology to its logical conclusions. If a full planetary reclamation construct can be programmed with the patterns of both Tronik Prime and Tronik-E, then it'll just be a matter of diverting a few stony-iron asteroids to provide the necessary rare materials. Given a terrestrial planet like Kepler-186f," he went on, pointing to the chart of habitable systems near the edge of Lor space, "then both Troniks can be integrated into a planetary ecosphere within the space of a Terran decade. Perhaps less. It'll be a significant resource diversion, true," he conceded, "but-" Suddenly his presentation was interrupted; the scientists in the room rising to their feet in surprise as his military escort reappeared. "Citizen Tulink, we need to get you back to the Vox ASAP," Vorka-13 was saying, her voice having become cool and professional despite the urgency in the room. "Please come with us and we'll get you back to the 'car." As they were talking, the Quesitor reappeared on a nearby monitor - his face harried and eyes wide, but voice calm as he announced something called an "Potential Omega Alert" to the assembled scientists, all of whom began heading out the door with alacrity, without so much as a backwards look at Sharl. "Wait, what's going on?" Sharl demanded, eyes on the Quesitor. "What's an...is the Terminus coming _here_?" he demanded, like many people who'd lived on Terra associating Omega with one thing, and one thing alone. "No," said Vorka, and to Sharl's surprise she depolarized her helmet to show her face. "An alien fleet has just penetrated the outer defenses of the system. It's standard protocol to evacuate key personnel to the orbital colonies for hyperspace jump if that's necessary." She looked at him and went on, "We're going to take you to the Vox and evacuate you from there if necessary. We're under strict orders to keep you safe."
