When the barrier was down, Comrade Frost was standing on the other side waiting for the other heroes of the League. "Ah! You saved me trouble of freezing hole in steel. Delightful!" He winked at Tiamat as she landed on the nearby street. "Ah, Lady Tiamat! Your approach is as fearsome as Russian winter and as vigorous as Red Army soiree." Damn! I was sure she was going to burn her way through the barrier! I had line of sight worked out and everything. Feh, what a disappointment. He adjusted his costume's hood and pointed the way towards the captured town. "Come, let us bring disaster to our enemies and teach them price of tampering with American liberties!"

As the Midnight Snowmobile zoomed up next to the alien guy, the first thing on Edge's mind was what came out of his mouth. This provided a lot of cover for his stealthy, acrobatic teammates - one of the many reasons they kept him around. "No more games, Parka Guy!" he declared in all seriousness. "You can't fool the finest detective in the world, or the veteran survivor of a thousand battles, or the bearer of the mystic blue ring of fire, or the mightiest psychic in armor, or me! What do you mean saying staff all sarcastic like that, are they alien shapeshifters?" His eyes lit up. "Are they Grue? Those bastards! And you're the one heroic Grue who's going to tell us how it works?" he asked, practically jumping off the snowmobile to crunch up next to the misshapen fellow. "C'mon, it's gotta be that, right? The Grue usually take hostages and anything else would be awful! They seemed like nice people and they're doing cool stuff!"

"Really-" PUNCH "Getting tired of-" CRACK "You stupid thugs!" Clock Queen took Huntsman down fast and hard, spinning around to slice his holdout pistol in half even as he tried to draw it from his ankle, then backhanding him hard enough to knock out teeth and send him collapsing to the ground in a boneless heap. She really was, just as she'd always assured Will, the fastest thing he'd ever seen in her prime. Errant, down and nearly out, wasn't doing so well - Rain Spider, the speedster on the Jet Patrol, was closing in on him, her intent impossible to read behind her helmeted faceplate. "Time to pay the piper, colored boy," she said seriously, as she stepped towards him. She punched at his head, hard, her blow cracking the tree behind his head as she missed by inches. "Hope you're-AGH!" Suddenly she was gagging on her own blood as a knife erupted through her neck from the back and out the front, Kyogen's arrival silent, sure, and deadly. Rain Spider fell to the ground, gagging and writhing, if not dying then damn close to it. This close, Errant realized two things - the suit Rain Spider was wearing, underneath the rapidly pooling blood, was the same black costume Downtime had been wearing back in 2014 - and that the brutal tyrant who had haunted his nightmares had just saved him. For her part, Kyogen chuckled and yanked out her blades. "If you want to go fast, struggle more," she encouraged the convulsing super-agent at her feet. "Spreads the poison more." Looking over, Clock Queen cursed. "Damn it, Jade, was that really necessary?" She sounded annoyed, but not particularly put out - it was the same tone, Will remembered, that she'd used the one time Holly had played the flushing game with her upstairs toilet in Florida.

"Oh, you guys?" Quark didn't seem to have thought about that rather important question, but he studied them all before nodding sagely. His gold eyes flashed with comfortable reassurance as his gaze took them all in, all the time-travelers, anyway. "All of you have inherited your mother's dimensional anchor, so you were left unaffected by the changes in time. Don't worry, you're not going to wink out once Taddai goes in a time-null cell!" Taking out what looked like a simple metal camping piton, he began snapping the device open while adding, "As for your return to your home timelines, I recognize you all from the multi-historic record. I don't think it's giving anything away to say that you all do make it back to your home timelines." He pointed the 'sharp' end of the device at Taddai. "Do you have anything to say before you go?" When the traveler looked away, unable to speak, Quark shrugged and fired a red beam that looked for all the world like a visible laser pointer's light - at least Taddai vanished neatly and soundlessly into the distant future that had spawned him.

All the teasing was gone from Frost's voice the next time he spoke on the communicator, and rightly so - for all that he played the vaguely perverse jester half the time with the Freedom League, he had been a veteran before all but one of his teammates had been alive. "Velocity, were you seen? Are you absolutely certain?" He began pacing back and forth where he stood, unaccustomed energy in his icy step so cold he left hoarfrost on the ground in the shape of his bootprints. "They must have expected retaliation to stage attack against American military transport so close to Freedom City when there is mass teleporter on Freedom League team. And now village has been fortified? I smell trouble, dire trouble indeed. I suggest we go in hard and fast and with great force," he went on, striking one fist against another. "Flush them out and trigger their trap before they have time to prepare for us."

Harridan drew back from Velocity and Edge, his eyes widening and big nostrils flaring. For a moment it looked like the already tense situation was going to explode into violence before Harridan exclaimed, "Wraagh!" With that, there was a ripple in the air near him, and then more ripples, dozens, hundreds as an army of heavily-armed gorillas appeared all around the center of the compound! They looked like light infantry, wearing loose-fitting camouflage more suited for their forest home than the deserts of Namibia, but carried themselves like veteran soldiers for all of that. (Or like gorillas - none of them were experts in the interpretation of ape body language). "I do not care about your human laws!" sneered Harridan, drawing himself up to his full height that was still well shorter than either of the humans. "That ape in there is a citizen of the Gorilla Nation and his attackers _will_ be punished by ape law! One who has tortured another must face the judgement and penalties of all the people!" "Hey, man," Edge intervened, heedless of the restless army of ape soldiers all around them. "that's all well and good, but we live in a planet of laws. Ape laws, and people laws. Gorilla Island is a UN member just like any other nation, which means you've signed all the treaties we have. If you want to try the people who tortured Gargantua, that's all well and good. You can't just show up here and break treaties signed by your own government!" - Inside the house, Gargantua shrank back, fear written painfully sharp on his simian face. ~I want to see them, but I...I don't know any of those apes. And I have never heard of Lord Harridan! The only Harridan I know was a criminal and an enemy of our nation; one who sought to make himself king of the gorillas!~

Voortrekker opened fire on Clock Queen from the air, machine gun bullets harmlessly chewing up the scenery around the speedster, hardly posing a threat to the nearly superluminal time controller. But he did post a threat to everyone around him, as richochets flew wildly in the air, one even hitting the staggering Huntsman in the leg. "Jesuswatchyourself!" exploded Anna Cline as she zipped around the field faster then most human eyes could follow, easily evading the bullets trying to bring her down. "Youpeoplearecrazy!" Sure enough, the mystic in the company of the Jet Patrol proved no better - firing a blast of searing red energy from a ring on her finger that missed all the heroes but, with a rush of heat and sudden smell of acrid smoke, set much of the park ablaze all around them. "Burn, heretics!" she cried in a voice that did not sound entirely healthy. "South Africa will be cleansed of your taint!"

"I can take him back to where I'm headquartered and put him in the Big House, see?" said Quark, sounding for all the world like a 1930s policeman. "Yeah, he's a tough customer, but we can put him where he won't hurt anyone else - and we'll keep him there till he's reformed." At the looks that got him from a room full of detectives and gritty avengers, he went on, "With the technology we have in the TTA, we can catch criminals before they offend. The only reason we didn't catch Taddai before was because he wasn't on our sonar. If we do let him out, it'll be when he's changed his ways for good." He eyed Taddai, his young man's voice once again growing more serious when he actually addressed the criminal. "Which may take a long time, but at the TTA we've got all the times in the world."

Back at Isla del Supercrime!, the film crew let the heroes confer while they went around getting more footage of the island, its dinosaur and dinosaurid population, and editing what they had already found. Having so many civilians around was a little unusual for the people who weren't regulars on the show, but at least they knew to stay out of the way of serious crisis situations. Overhead, the Space People were still invisible to human (and dinosaur eyes), though evidently not the eyes of the great magma dragon that still lurked beneath the planet's surface. Now that he knew to look for it, Gaian Knight could _feel_ the massive granite plug that was all that was left of some ancient volcano that had died before the dinosaurs themselves had evolved - a plug that would surely be destroyed entirely when the asteroid obliterated everything beneath their feet, and a chunk of the whole hemisphere besides. Though he and Will were still a few minutes out even at his top speed, Richard kept up with the discussion telepathically through Paige - and so it was that when he and Will burst into the open area where the heroes were conferring, he declared, "We've got to at least get out there and see what's going on with that guy, girl, lava dragon thing - whatever!" He looked at the others and said, "Even if this thing isn't hostile, we've got to see if we can meet it, maybe take some pictures. We've met gods before," he added with a nod to Paige, "and they're usually all right if you feed their ego. He's already watching. Might as well turn things around, get him on camera while we're at it."

Eventually there didn't seem to be much more the heroes could do and they went their separate ways, exchanging contact information as was the usual style of superheroes. There was something hauntingly familiar about Titan the more Cobalt Templar looked at him, but it was nothing he could exactly put a finger on - and after all those endless years in another dimension, there were many strangers who wore the faces of old friends all around him. With new technology in Riff's pocket and quite a story for Titan to tell his military handlers, it looked to have been an interesting - albeit very strange, afternoon after that softball game. - Meanwhile, in the Rocky Mountains, Jump Psion looked over his research with some satisfaction. He hadn't really expected the heroes to see through his experiment, which made things all the more interesting - even now that Aura was doing penance for once again failing to bring back her sister. So far the heroes of Freedom were continuing to surprise him - but he was sure he'd figure them out sooner or later. After all, he had family to rescue. All of them.

Cursing at super-speed, so fast her words sounded like a shriek, Clock Queen snapped open her blades - a long, sharp sword that glittered with clocks along the center line of the blade and a smaller main gauche in her off-hand. Together, the two weapons looked like the minute and hour hands of a particularly gaudy clock. "Notreadyforthis!" Moving like lightning, she zipped around the park impossibly fast, her body a barely-visible blur before she came up behind the grinning Huntsman and drove her balled fist into the back of his head with a crack audible yards away, then slashed the blade along his back, drawing blood and cutting deep. "Noguns!Don'tyouknowanythingaboutsuperfights!" Meanwhile, the Jet Patrol's own speedster went into action - sensibly avoiding the fastest thing alive, Rain Spider zipped forward (her great speed looking almost pokey next to the impossibly fast Anna Cline) and hurled a punch at Errant that knocked him backwards, smashing the unaware teen directly into a tree behind him. "Stay down, luv," she said with a strong British accent, "this ain't no bloody place for kids, Coloured or otherwise!" Kyogen, the deadliest assassin in the world, had meantime disappeared entirely from everyone's view.

Richard eyed the other man uncertainly, his accelerated brain chewing on the implications of Rick's statement. "So your dupes, they're the you you were in the 1980s, all the time, forever?" Richard thought about the man he'd been in the 1980s - an arrogant cokehead adrenaline junkie who only didn't get himself killed because of the good sense of his best girl. And this guy was an ass compared to me. Jeez, that must suck! "We'll help you track your boys down, Rick. Fast as I am and with Paige's mind powers, we'll get it done." He shot a glance at Paige, uncertain about going on, and knowing full well she would know why. Repentant or not, Rick Allen had been a violent criminal back in the day, doing things that went well beyond both Fast-Forward and Hologram's boundaries - and unlike them, he'd had no public heroism on his record afterwards. This guy is about right for a scholarly sage of a desert people, a hardy fellow with physical strength that belies his slim build. In Jedi terms he's more Consular than Knight; he's more about the showy effects and mentalism than he is being a straight-up melee specialist - though if he ignites his double-bladed blazing weapons he can certainly be very effective in combat. His flight works for acrobatic leaps and the like, letting him take on even the biggest opponents. His ring, which allows him to harness his inner wisdom, makes him faster and stronger than he otherwise would be, and generally protects his already-sturdy body from harm. He's not quite space-worthy as is, but given his high saves and partial immunities can probably make an emergency, short-term trip through space if he has to. He's not a genius like Spock, and he's a bit of a stick in the mud - but he has enough Diplomacy to at least try talking his way out of fights before they start, and he has a good solid INT and WIS that will at least let him help out in a lot of situations. A +3 modifier isn't much, but with that Jack of all Trades he can do a lot with it! Perhaps this ring is an ancient artifact of the most scholarly of his warrior-poet people, or maybe he saw it fall as a meteor from space while out meditating in the high desert. In-setting, perhaps it is a corrupted fragment of the Light of Truth or a Star Knight's armor - the possibilities are endless! -

As Trevor and Quark made it to the garage, it was clear that Quark was in the middle of an explanation he'd started as soon as he walked in the door. "-so anyway, I don't really work for Dr. Tomorrow as such, but we are affiliated with his organization. Tomorrow works for the beings at the end of time, and we have a 99.924% probability to evolve into them, given the resources we have and what we've done. My branch of the Temporal Transit Authority polices all time crime between the 30th and 50th centuries, so Taddai Hendawhit is under my jurisdiction. It's honestly pretty easy work, most of the time," he admitted, "nothing as tough as being a superhero back in the 21st century. I mean, wow!" He shook his head, then looked over the people in the big garage; his yellow eyes lighting up at the sight of Erin. "Erin! Hi!" He waved with a big, cheerful smile, seemingly heedless of the circumstances, before he caught sight of Hendawhit, who .had sat up, oxygen mask over his mouth. At the sight of the time criminal, he got much more serious - albeit regretful. "Well well well. Here we are, Taddai. Your illegal movement through time has stopped, which means you can now safely be incarcerated by the Temporal Transit Authority," he added for the benefit of the downtimers.
