  1. It didn't take Velocity long to realize she was surrounded! What grass there was was rustling menacingly in a wind that did not blow, and distinct gorilla-sized footprints had formed at several places on the dry, sandy soil elsewhere. If those movements meant what she thought they meant, there had to be dozens, or more, gorillas of unknown provenance in their immediate area - and spreading out! "Where are you holding him? And those criminals who have so abused our citizen, do they live?" demanded Harridan, giving Velocity and Edge both a distinctly suspicious eye. This was not a friendly gorilla, even if he had to look up from well-below eye level to glare at the two heroes. "Have you given them the final justice that kidnappers and cannibals deserve? We have heard of the barbarous arts your criminals practice on our citizens!"
  2. Richard took a long, shuddering breath, fighting back the urge to cry - especially with Wail and especially with his girl right there watching him. It had been a long, long time, especially for someone whose perceptions of time were sometimes at their slowest. "She...she doesn't know we were back in town, yeah." He looked around at the ruined city and made an admission that was, in its own way, painful - for all that he was doing nothing more than reciting facts he'd known since he was a child. "If something big happened, she wouldn't stay and fight unless she was cornered. She'd just take off someplace else." He wasn't sure what that was either, not with everything the way it was - all across the world, as far as Lady Liberty's updates had been able to tell them of the events in the rest of the city. "But at least that means she's safe, and she's away from...all this." He waved a hand around at the place that he was beginning to believe might be their tomb. The rest of the day after that battle was spent in rescue and disaster relief, the small group of Lincoln defenders now doing all they could to save lives even if looked like the world itself was ending. The skies were still an ominous red and sirens and explosions were audible even as they worked. The battle had passed them by for now, giving them breathing room enough to make sure the other inhabitants of Lincoln were still breathing. Another long day was coming to an end, the red skies turning black overhead save where fires lit the clouds from below, when it happened - Wail, with a little assistance from Paige's weak telekinesis, was lifting a heavy, overloaded truck that had been smashed into the asphalt and blocked an evacuation route, trapping those residents who wanted to make their way out by car and to the cordon of National Guard around the town as fast as they could. It was some safety, anyway, more than they had there. Then there was a noise like the wind, and a blur of gold and blue: and suddenly they weren't alone anymore, the truck lifted into the air and over the head of the man they'd all grown up watching, admiring, believing in. Without a word, the Centurion effortlessly moved the truck out of the way and set it down along the side of the road. With his face now clearly visible, the Man of Adamant was almost shockingly battered and bruised, his blonde hair almost brown from soot, his invincible skin cracked and bleeding along one side of his face, his hands bloodied at the knuckles. "The road is clear," he told the small convoy of civilians, who in their cars and vans looked small against the broken city. "You can make it out of the city and away from the wormholes, and no more harm will come to you." For the first time, he looked at the heroes, villains, and vigilantes of Lincoln. "There won't be any more attacks tonight. Do any of you want to go with them?"
  3. One prisoner is entangled, the other is trapped in a smashed-car that will need a strength or power check to get it open. - or our mighty heroes can make a STR check or power check to hold up parts of the wall!
  4. Set's implicit question was answered when he opened the door to see a car racing towards him at fantastic speed, Weather Mistress behind the wheel! The nimble nocturne of the Nile dodged out of the way as the car smashed right through the warehouse's cinderblock wall only to smash itself against a steel post with an enormous crash that shook the entire building! Safely belted in as she was, the driver of the car looked dazed but largely unhurt - at least until the walls of the building began to shake and the already-stressed structure began to crash down around the ears of the godly pair and their now out-for-the-count compatriots. The wail of approaching sirens let them know that emergency response crews were on their way, probably from the nearby base, but they wouldn't come before the building came down!
  5. The team went into action - Edge making his way up the tilting deck to try and blast Typhoon out of the sky, Blue Fox mentally contacting both the captain of the De Gaulle - and her sister, who was in the air over a nearby destroyer defending it from one of Nina's siblings, when suddenly the carrier's abrupt tilt stopped! Eve knew the reason why first. Her mind already linked with Captain Duval, she could clearly hear the radio message that the captain was receiving aboard the De Gaulle's storm-tossed bridge. "<-you have had your lesson! If you do not leave Socotran territorial waters within four hours, it shall be applied again!>" Of course, Typhoon's decision to evidently withdraw didn't necessarily apply to the French superheroes he and the al-Darsah family had been fighting - or for that matter the French naval personnel they'd been warring with! A controlled melee began in the air around the king of Socotra as the al-Darsah siblings, all of them in black costumes similar to Nina's, in the air made a tight circle around him, a full half-dozen of some of the most powerful hydrokinetics on the planet guarding the most powerful, all of them still locked in a struggle with the forces of the National Gendarmerie Intervention Group and the air wing against them. "Crap! I can't hit him with everybody in the way!" Edge called to Wander and Midnight. "I might take out a jet!" He looked at Nina and pointed to the sky, calling. "Babe, this may be your moment!" "Until these people stop shooting at my family!" Nina called out, though for all her words she was already hovering in the air, her eyes an alarming blood-red as if she'd burst a vessel. Sure enough she and they were already attracting an armed crowd on deck.
  6. have an HP, Gizmo, and give me a Reflex save! DC 17!
  7. Only 11? Well, this seems totally legit to Titan!
  8. Hendawhit's eyes snapped open suddenly and he gasped, his hands coming up from beneath the tarp to clutch at his throat with wide eyes. His black-stained veins bulged wide with effort as he took deep, agonized breaths that rattled in his throat. "Vapooor..." he begged in an accented voice that sounded like nothing they'd ever heard before, his words flavored by uncounted millennia between them. When he realized where he was, or perhaps when, his eyes suddenly went even wider, until it looked like his body was about to explode from the strain behind his eyes. "Familiae! Hendawhit familae!" His terror, and his weakness, was obvious, his bare feet drumming into the floor beneath his bare body. "Vapor wrang! Vapor wrang! Daulaz!"
  9. What happens when you go BEYOND THE IMPOSSIBLE and pass Orichalcum? We give you a reward - No, you've had plenty of those already - A rank! A title named in honor of the ultimate alloy of gold and silver, a metal with a rare and ancient history in Freedom City - and in the real world as well! Prince Heru-Ra tossed coins made of this greenish and silvery gold alloy to crowds of peasant children in Ancient Egypt, while the light of the Beacon first reflected off the capstones of the pyramids decorated with this Anatolian amalgam. We find it in the works of Pliny the Elder and the writings of the Prophet Ezekiel, on rings and seals and statues, and in a thousand other places across our history. (And by a strange coincidence, it bears the name of the very first player to reach this exalted level!) Ladies and gentlemen, I give you... ELECTRUM!
  10. http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4607614/ = 23 That does hit! http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4607617/ = and she is entangled as well
  11. Sneaking into a dinosaur village's center structure was a new experience for both Crimson Tiger and Hologram, but as Tiamat and Gaian Knight, and their civilian escorts, zipped away and out of immediate eyeshot of the dinosaurs, it seemed like the best course of action - it was certainly the most exciting, as wearable cameras recorded swaying branches and crashing reptilian feet as they entered the mudbrick and thatch-roofed structure. The floor beneath their feet was dirt and well-tracked, worn smooth by what must have been thousands of dinosaur feet over the years. They passed small rooms covered by leather or palm-leaf drapes as they went, catching glimpses of beds like nests and scattered animal bones, with neat holes dug in the corner of every room. In the center of the building, at the heart of a knot of swaying dinosaurs too thick to immediately approach, was an altar made of rough island stone, its cracked and pitted surface stained with blood - most likely from the raw meat that was being heaped at the feet of its master! The shaman might have been ridiculous in another context with his giant fish headdress (obviously the head of some now-gone species) and the long cape of feathered scales he wore around his neck, but there was power in that short, muscular body all the same. Careful about reading his mind, Paige could nonetheless hear the emotion in his voice as he addressed the followers, the song he sang of hissing barks and growls making them follow along like a congregation with its amens!
  12. "Charmed," agreed Fast-Forward, giving Cannonade's hand a quick shake. Geez! Grip on that kid. "He's learned a few new tricks in twenty-five years, but so have we." Richard knelt down by one of the stunned duplicates and looked up at the others. "Can you get anything from him, honey? He never had what you'd call a super-brain," he added for Cannonade's benefit. "He only ever kept Hologram out when he was wasted, or when these guys were all banging their heads together and there was no one door into that thick skull." He shook his head and added apologetically, "Sorry, I just really hated this guy and his crew back in the day. Hologram and I did our share of bad, but we weren't so damned gleeful about it."
  13. "We have power, should put it to good use. Go in strong and with great force, make clear to foes that we are mighty host - if such is not needed, then we are powerful rescue party to save brave American soldiers, no?" Normally Frost was loathe to make many tactical suggestions around the Leaguers - his time with them was coming to an end with Russia's political priorities shifting in new and frankly unpleasant directions, and he didn't want them to resent him more than they already did. "I hope it is not giant cow friend, eh?" he asked the others with a wink. Come to think of it, maybe he wasn't that concerned if they disliked him so long as they got the mission accomplished. "What a cheesy situation would that be!"
  14. "Man, you're-" As he spoke, Fast-Forward zipped around the room at super-speed, flipping through his magic book like a college student who hadn't studied for an open-book test. arcturusguardianofthebear "-dumb. Your music is just a bunch of-" As he stopped in front of every duplicate, he traced an arcane pattern in the air at super-speed, a glowing, incredibly complex curlicue of magical energy that he reproduced faster than any machine could have dreamed. giveusyourstormywrath "coke-headed punks angry because-" He kicked open a window as he went, the glass shattering to reveal a growing storm outside. arktosourosgiveusthylightningandthunder "-you were too young to get stoned at Woodstock!" He stopped between Hologram and Cannonade and went on, "I feel sorry for the kid you used to be, Rick. But you're a grown-ass man now even if you don't look it. And a man has to stand up for what he's done. Everybody down!" givemeTHESTORM! And with that, a bolt of lightning erupted from the sky and enveloped the entire bookstore, rocketing up into the sky in a tremendous explosion of blue-white energy, a deafening roar filling the air as bolts of lightning struck at every single version of Slamdance.
  15. Fast-Forward uses his stormy light of Arcturus power, one of his few with an attack roll! He'll Power Attack for +2. http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4605340/ = 19, but I'm not willing to let it go so easily! This is Round 2 and the gloves are off. http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4605341/ = 33 with the HP, so that hits. That'll be a DC 33 Tou save for Slamdance.
  16. "Brave souls who traveled back to 1923 to cut the head from the snake. Intervene at the time of the Beerhall Putsch and destroy all the Reich's would-be leadership in a single masterstroke. Do you know how many more horrors there were in waiting in those terrible days?" demanded Litwack with urgent grief. "Himmler's pagan sacrifices, Drexler's cyborg monstrosities, and so many more! The only solution was to strike them all down. Who can say what happened in those intervening years?" he asked, circling the room, still in great grief. "They must have gone to ground, as they planned, and died when the conquest of Germany at the hands of that Soviet monster ended in nuclear holocaust and flame deluge! I do not know where the Centurion went," he admitted in his ravings, "perhaps he was never born at all, or never came to our planet...or perhaps he died beneath an atomic jackboot!"
  17. Litwack started at Cobalt Templar's approach, but didn't look too surprised to see the heroes there. "Ah! You...well, of course it would be you." With a tired sigh, Litwack rose to his feet, his face still streaked with tears, and laid his hands against blank spots on the chalkboard near his seat for a moment. "We who wanted to end the greatest crime of all simply became the greatest criminals ourselves." Litwack turned and faced the heroes steadily. "Gentlemen, I stand before you the sole survivor of the group of geniuses that sought to build a machine to travel back in time and kill ADOLF HITLER!" He smacked one hand into another, and looking over his shoulder Riff realized he was looking at plans for a time machine - a machine whose parts he could see scattered all around them even now! "It was all so simple, simply a matter of the right matter correspondences so that Hitler could be eliminated without the birth of a new timeline! But what did we make? A horrorshow!" He kicked the history textbook at his feet for emphasis. "Six million dead in Britain alone when the Bombs fell. Worse on the Continent! And millions more put into bondage and the grave, right here in America!" He turned and embraced Cobalt Templar, weeping again against his chest. "We killed the world even as we sought to save it!"
  18. Like a teenager at the beach with a transistor radio, Comrade Frost held his bulky handset against his ear as he listened to Gabriel talk. He waited for the other shoe to drop for several seconds before he realized the sonic paladin had hung up. Hah-hah, he thought to himself as he stood up, how the times have changed! There was a time, not so long ago by his own recollection, when it would have been super-agents of the Soviet Union attacking the convoy of American soldiers to steal the military secrets they were so jealously guarding. As far as he knew, there were no such agitations planned against the United States in the near future - the hierarchy spoke to him rarely about such things, and surely they would not expose him to arrest...unless once again ties are being cut. That thought, unpleasant though it was, stayed with him as he drifted through the stairways of Freedom Hall until he arrived at Gabriel's side, now out of his Hawaiian-style trunks and in his costume. "Convoy of brave patriots attacked by sinister forces, eh? Come, let us show them price of trampling on the grapes of American wrath!" He drove one fist into another for emphasis.
  19. Fast-Forward rolled through the attack, vibrating air molecules slowing to practically gelatinous speed as he zipped his way through them without so much as mussing his carefully-coifed hair. He wasn't one to worry much about supersonic attacks with a top speed of Mach 40. But he knew the same couldn't be said for Hologram; or the building, or for that matter the new guy - who hadn't seemed phased by his wife's hidden powers, which meant maybe it was time to play his own hole card. "Hey..." -Crap, I have no idea who this is!- "Hey, Trojan, get behind me! It's time to put this washed-up reject on pause!" Reaching into the leather jacket he wore over his black and white jumpsuit, Fast-Forward took out something he hadn't carried in the 80s, a slim, leather-bound antique journal, and began riffing through the pages at super-speed.
  20. Fast-Forward is going to hold his action until after Cannonade goes.
  21. The OOC thread for this thread.
  22. "Do not shoot the captive!" declared Caradoc with great authority as he waded into the fray, leaving behind the maddened form of the Miss Americana robot to attack the creature that was shrugging off the blows from so many powerful-looking entities. Rising up from behind, he smashed the blunt end of his pike against Southern Belle's back, sending her slamming forward as she released her grip around Temperance's throat. She is already focusing on the godling. Good. Unable to speak inaudibly into his microphone, he kept up a running commentary on the battle for Gina's sake, knowing she was probably even now looking for a signal from Boston's electronic computer network. "We are engaged in fierce battle against Southern Belle! She is a doughty foe, but Set, Sekhmet, Terrifica, and Temperance and I will be victorious against yon monstrous ghost!"
  23. Recognizing that Southern Belle is the greater threat, Harrier goes for her with a melee attack. Move Action: Fly up there! Standard Action: http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4604295/ = 32 OK! That exceeds her Defense by more than 10, so he gets the full +5 bonus added on. 12+5=17 http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4604297/ All right, that's another Bruised for Southern Belle (who now is at Bruised x3 with 9 Impervious (because her Impervious is Ablative) Temperance is up
