Death, Crime, Rage of a Beast, Etc. [OOC]
Avenger Assembled replied to trollthumper's topic in Archives
Fast-Forward remembers this joker from old times well enough to know not to hit him; he - He will Taunt as a Move Action (DC 20) As far as his standard action, is there any issue with him using his standard action to evacuate everyone who isn't Slamdance? He's got Affects Others on his Speed and Teleport, depending on which you think would be best. -

Trevor found Mark on his phone, or rather texting - shooting worried glances between Nina and her mother (who had now switched back to Soqotri), a little slowed down by the hand that was resting between Nina's shoulderblades. "It's lunchtime in Geneva, but a few people are in the office. The lines are jammed at Special Ops, but there's something happening on the news..." Sure enough, Erin could see the same things - CNN was reporting a freak storm cell had formed directly over the island of Socotra and then headed directly for the Arabian coastline, while one of Al Jazeera's 'embedded reporters' on Socotra had broadcast shaky iPhone images of what looked like fountains of water erupting from an already-damaged imperial palace (which from the fallen roof and damaged walls did indeed look like Mark had been going all out in it), gushing down on the streets below and into the harbor - just before the tiny nation's cellular networks and Internet had gone down thanks to government censorship. "They don't know anything yet. Sorry, babe." He looked over expectantly at Trevor, from the look in his eye hoping for some good news.

http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4592321/ = 47! Boom. -
Miss Americana flew towards her downed opponent at super-sonic speed and nearly at ground-level, sending the tourists still crowding the Common fleeing in terror (with some actually having to dive out of the way of the oncoming heroine). If that was the Spirit of Liberty riding inside the patriotic paragon's body, it was showing much less regard for the people around it than usual. "You hear that? Even Pharoah's god laughs at your ridiculous pretensions, Mary!" She punched her downed counterpart hard enough to leave a crater in the soft, swampy soil of the pondside hill where they'd landed on the eastern side of the Common. "You're nothing but a traitor to your sex and a traitor to your nation!" Without breaking concentration, she looked at Set and said, "Hello, I'm feeling unwell. Could you call 609-555-4321 and ask for Steve-" She was interrupted by her antagonist, whose face was twisted with rage and hate. "Ah don't know that means, but go to hell, you-" Southern Belle called Set an epithet that had been inappropriate even in the 1860s. Struggling her way out of the dirt, she spat out grass and yelled, "And as for you, you're just a sanctimonious busybody who thought she was better than herself! You don't know anything about being a real woman, or living in the real world!"

"Agh!" Stratos recoiled in terror, his head bouncing off the roof of his cage. He pointed a frightened finger at Thrude. "You ARE Lady Donar, aren't you? You're some, some kind of crazy Nazi, aren't you! You know what? I have had just about enough of this. I was willing to let you have your little victory and go rescue your crazy Canadian husband, Weather Mistress," he turned to Set and said conversationally, "shouldn't she be Weather Wife, or Weather Madam, or Weather Queen now? I don't know, maybe I'm old fashioned..." He shook his head and snapped back into his rant. "Anyway, this is my laboratory, that was my dea...er, PEACE ray" he added with a gesture towards the smoking husk of his machine, "and most of all, this is MY TRAP!" He put his hands together and said out loud, "Dos vadanya!" At his words, the cage quite literally fell apart at the seams; the joiners collapsing everywhere, and Stratos rose up into the air, lightning crackling around his fingers. "I'm gonna knock your socks off! With multiple bolts of lightning!" "Oh it's on now!" yelled Weather Mistress, taking to the air to match him.

There was a terrible electrical whining in the air as they entered the house, which on closer inspection had been nearly completely hollowed out. The heroes burst inside the house, only to find it was hardly a house at all. Stripped of its furnishings and with a hole cut all the way into the rafters, a giant machine towered above their heads, glowing white and red and spilling energies everywhere! They could just make out a small group of four individuals inside a big glass cylinder in the middle of the machine, the focus of its great energies - in their black jumpsuits, the people inside all looked like the teleporter who had escaped them earlier. Alongside, a white-haired, lab-coated fellow with a shock of white hair turned to the assembled heroes and declared "You're! Too! Late!" just before he pulled the switch! With a tremendous flash of light, the world around the heroes seemed to wash away in a brilliant explosion of power, walls, floor, ceiling, and each other lost in a wash of sheer, overwhelming power. And then they were all in a darkened living room, and it was as if nothing strange had been happening. They stood on an old-fashioned brown shag carpet, just inside a big wooden front door, the faint sound of a television coming from the front room of what was now at least in plan a typical lower-income small bungalow. Inside the living room in front of them they could make out a man fast asleep in an orange and red easy chair, beer bottle fallen from an outstretched hand, while the television droned on about the Genetic Purity League. The occupant of the house was middle-aged and muscular, his grey crewcut and roughened hands making him look like a blue-collar worker catching a much-needed summer nap. Outside lay a small lawn, and what looked like some sort of parade taking place outside.

I would like to volunteer Comrade Frost for the Red Rat thread. -
"My name is Murdock," replied Caradoc. He looked up at Argonaut as she entered and, suddenly aware of how alien his fellow drone looked without a disguise, reached up and switched off his holoemitters. "You may vomit if you watch me," he warned Vector. For a moment an unspeakable horror was sitting by Vector's beside, then a nightmarish transition of flesh and metal and blood like a demonic puzzle, and then that brown-skinned, scarred man she'd met before was sitting by her bed. He stood up to retract his pike and attach the shrunken blade to his belt, leaving him a towering figure in the room. With his height and bulk, it was easy to see where the metal went - deep inside his scarred and folded flesh. "It is done, by their laws. Will you return to America?" he asked Argonaut.

The crowd screamed and parted, leaving the heroes the only ones in immediate range of the bomber. As Riff's blast hit him, the madman suddenly warped, rippled, and disappeared! Cobalt Templar realized he instead was grappling a slippery fellow in an all-black bodysuit, one who didn't seem at all like the terrorist who had just vanished. For his part, Riff saw someone rise up behind a parked car and turn to run away - a black trenchcoated woman he didn't recognize, but for the moment his attention was on the crisis at hand. "Gotcha!" the ninja-clad man sneered - and an instant later, they were all gone! A circle of energy had erupted from Cobalt Templar's prisoner and wrapped itself around Cobalt Templar, Titan, and even the distant Riff, transporting all four of them to somewhere else entirely. They were somewhere in a suburban neighborhood like Aston or Grenville, in front of a tumbledown house that was glowing with internal power. Wriggling his way free, the teleporter laughed, "I just wanted some military fools, but you'll do nicely! You'll never stop us!" he exclaimed before he turned and ran inside the open door of the nearby house.

"Let me guess," said Paulette patiently. "You're an entropic mutant, right?" She gave Cho a sympathetic look, but notably did not draw any closer. "You're not the only one in the world, you know. My little sister Paige, she's the same way." She dropped her focus on Will and focused on Cho. "I know it looks scary and your powers may be destructive, but that doesn't mean you're worthy of death. Far from it. You carry within you the power of destruction itself, and that's something special. You are special, Cho. All of you are," she added with a look at the others. "Look, I know I may have said the wrong things," she said with a laugh. "I don't talk to many people outside my family. You know how that is, right?" she said with an ingenous smile Will's way. "Right now, why don't we-" "Are they _still_ here?" Like a sitcom neighbor from Hell, Jade Harper, a tall, muscular Eurasian woman still carrying her Kyogen mask, had thrown open the door - only her gloved hands a reminder of her poisonous touch. Errant knew the face of a thousand propaganda posters instantly; sometimes young like she was here, sometimes wizened with hate as she stood alongside her daughter, who had inherited her title as ruler of New Freedom. "What are you doing, trying to get the boys to knock you up?" she sneered at Paulette, a comment that briefly made the pretty redhead's cheeks blush before she went on, "Listen, you have five minutes to get yourselves cleaned up, then I will drag you all ass-first to see Medea! Get moving, grunts!"

"There, you see? Even Kid Set says I'm as good as you ever were!" Weather Mistress rapped Stratos on the knuckles again, prompting an "Ow!" from the mad inventor before she turned to face the heroes. "Listen, I don't know what Set-speare in the Park here-" "Hey, that one was pretty good!" interjected Stratos. "-has been telling you, Thrude, but I'm just a poor girl from Kansas looking to help out my husband Adam," she said, her voice warming to the story. "The police here didn't like Adam standing up for his nation or trying to turn a poor family rich! Is that fair, I ask you?" She spread her arms. "Listen, I've had some troubles, but I've turned over a new leaf and I'm just here to help out the man I love. Can't you help me with that?" "Oh c'mon!" declared Stratos. "Her husband's a crazy Canucklehead! The man once told me that he would only join the Crime League if we agreed to be bilingual! Hell, I speak five languages and Medea speaks fifty-five, two of which will melt your ears right off your head if you hear her curse in them. Which she does, by the way, all the time, crazy Greek broad..."

Thrude: Dr. Stratos has been acting crazier than usual lately. Weather Mistress? WHO? And what the hell is that over there? Some kind of a thing? It is. Set: Dr. Stratos was kidnapped away to the Curator's Ringworld a couple of years ago and held for an indeterminate period. Since he returned he's been unstable and, well, CRAZY in an entirely different way - he's still a threat, but oddly defanged, as if his febrile brain has been pushed in directions other than mayhem and carnage. Usually, anyway. Weather Mistress is a thief, works for the Thieves Guild, is a gadgeteer who makes weather-control machines. Married to Adam Jury, the Mad Maple, just last year - but True North picked him up a couple of months ago.

Let's call it a DC 20 Computers or Technology check to recognize Stratos' machine for what it was. DC 15 Gather Info or Streetwise for Weather Mistress. Everyone knows Dr Stratos - DC 15 Streetwise check (or DC 25 Gather Info, for entirely different things to learn) to have some idea what's up with him.

Being gods of stout heart, the heroes flew through the hole blasted open in the roof of the warehouse and found themselves in the middle of a strange scene. A scrawny man with a bedraggled goatee wearing a stained labcoat was locked inside a heavy-barred iron cage, pounding futilely at the bars as a woman with sharply-pointed face mask with black cape and blue costume taunted him. "You see, Stratos, your machine was nothing before the awesome power of my Weather Wand!" The massive instrument she held, a huge blue and white staff long as a shepard's crook, did indeed crackle with ionization that seemed to match the smell rising from the broken, wrecked machine behind them - whatever secrets the machine had held were now so much wrack and ruin. "Admit I'm the best! Admit it!" "Oh yeah? Well you're just a crazy-hey, it's superheroes!" The man in the cage, evidently Sebastian Stratos, waved frantically as Thrude and Set touched down. "You guys gotta get me out of here, this lady is crazy! Here I was just building a machine for perfectly legitimate, law-abiding uses," he went on, ticking off points on his finger, "and minding my own business, when she blasts in the door and says she has a score to settle with me! And she blew it up! Just imagine if anybody had been in here!" he went on, full of wide-eyed outrage to the heroes. "They're not heroes!" said Weather Mistress with a scornful sneer as she turned to face down Thrude and Set, her cape crackling with electricity behind her. "Look, that one is obviously Donar from one of the gender-reversed parallels, and that's Set over there! I bet no one's ever kicked HIM off the Crime League, _loser_," she added with a sneer, rapping her staff against Stratos' knuckles. "I guess maybe that could be Lady Thor," continued Stratos, seemingly oblivious to the heroes standing right there, "but no, that's got to be the Set from the Internet, the superhero one. Hey, Set!" he said with a wave. "I love your tumblr! I agree, it is a shame when the world doesn't understand you! And when crazy people try and keep you down!" He added with a glare at Weather Mistress.

"This isn't like the outside world, Cho, was it?" said Paulette with icy politeness that soon shifted into a missionary's sincerity. "You don't have to perform to impress anyone, or risk your life for the benefit of the lesser-evolved among us. You are special, and unique, and the League is about giving you the freedom to be yourself. Now don't get me wrong," she added with a smile, "if you don't like playing cops and robbers, I'll admit it can get a little tiresome. But once you have a little seed money, you can invest in whatever project you want; whether it's supporting the birth of the new race the way my family does, or just taking care of yourself the way Clock Queen does. I have to admit," she said with a smile, "Anna and I have our differences, but she certainly knows how to live - much better than she ever could without the powers that make her better than everyone else." As she spoke, Thoughtspeed suddenly felt a knife slicing into his brain, burning hot just like the one in Paulette's hand - a knife that cut its way down to a single question: WHO ARE YOU?

"It is a free man's blade, used to break the chains of slavery." Still armored, the knight held up the blade - a humble, albeit gleaming golden gladius, whose haft was emblazoned with mystic sigils. "For the Terminus, such is anathema." It seemed to be the only explanation there was. "And there are those there who have a personal grudge. It seems a small thing to have brought so much death at the hands of the forces of entropy" He set the blade down again and said frankly, "I am sorry, Vector. I had thought all other Omegadrones were destroyed. Instead I find one free to worship the dread gods of the Terminus, and work his horrors among your people. Newman will be taken to a facility in Freedom City. His fate will be out of my hands there. I will see that the blade is removed from your nation-state, and will no longer threaten your people."

Terrifica can see that the Collective is well and truly contained; the cockroaches scuttling around inside their bonds in fact seem to have abandoned the organization and regularized movement patterns that spoke of sentience. The Psycho-Collective seems to be hesitating, listening serious to Caradoc's words.
