(You can do some amazing things with time powers, kids!) The result just might be Dust-Devil, who combines her mother's speed and her father's power over the desert sands to become a whirling tornado of destruction! She's something of a blunt instrument compared to her subtle father, more in line with her mother's brute-force tactics. She has the power to transform herself into a whirling sand tornado, one that can shred steel with whipping particles of sand or batter men around with tremendous gusts! (She can also throw sand right in the eyes, ouch!) She has a lot tied up in her powers, but she's young and has plenty of time to grow - especially if she develops more demigod-style abilities. Yes, her speed is supposed to be that gross - a potential speed of 10,000,000 MPH will get you in and out of most jams very fast! She'll spent most of the time at about Flight 4 or so, which is a pretty solid combat speed. A less crazy version might have Affects Others on her Flight the way her half-brother Fast-Forward does, so that she can carry people along with her winds at fantastic speed. I figure she works as a 'legitimate archaeologist' somewhere in Egypt, fighting tomb robbers while she learns more about her heritage. It doesn't count as stealing if she acquires Set-related artifacts? She may not have gone to college but she's pretty sure that's how it works. With more time she'll get better at trash-talk and taunting. With her Immunities, Insubstantial 2, and her very high Toughness, she's very hard to take down in a fight - her main weakness is probably being stunned. More PP development could give her better combat abilities and more skills, or perhaps more divine power...
  2. With a mighty BOOM, Yolanda de la Cruz smashed a towering home run that got the fans on their feet screaming with joy! It was still a close game, with the Fighting Fisherwomen giving no ground, but ultimately when the ninth inning ended the Lady Myrmidons were victorious. The coach had Gatorade poured over her head and Yolanda de la Cruz (who everyone was sure had a sports career of some kind ahead of her, tech student) was lifted off the field by her cheering teammates. It was a good day to be in Freedom City, and the heroes, smart men that they were (and big ones to boot) waited until the big crowd on the field had dispersed before they started making their way to the exits. And just in time they did, too, because as all three men reached the parking lot - they realized there was trouble afoot. Red-haired and with a thick, bushy beard, a man in a West River sweatshirt and jeans, oddly overdressed for the weather, had proved to have sinister intentions - as a family of four passed him, he ripped open his sweatshirt to reveal a bomb vest underneath, dynamite strapped to electrical equipment. His hand on the detonator, he ranted as the crowd screamed in terror and ran, "OVERTHROW will not let this monument to oppression and imperialist war stand! Death to the enemies of peace!"
  3. Southern Belle was a manifestation of Lady Liberty that erupted during the American Civil War. Southern Belle wasn't a monster - but she was a brutal soldier of a white supremacist regime, one who disappeared after the conflict had finished. Lady Liberty has occasionally talked about Southern Belle, but only in deeply regretful terms. No one ever learned her name, as most of the records were destroyed after the war.
  4. The check here is not an easy one - let's call it a Knowledge (Civics) or (History) check; DC is 30.
  5. Errant can roll Notice and Sense Motive too
  6. Steve is probably gonna intervene here. http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4588141/ = 16 Steve goes on 16 http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4588143/ = 19 Miss A goes on 19 http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4588144/ Southern Belle goes on 11
  7. "I might have known you'd say that," sneered Miss Americana as she wheeled back towards Set, her voice suddenly changing into a Southern drawl. "Those people were better off in this country, freer 'n happier than they'd ever have been back in...no no no!" Suddenly the patriotic paragon struck herself on the side of the head, her pretty face twisting with righteous anger. "Oh, don't you start this now, Mary Preston Hammer!" she hissed, her voice returning to normal. Well, as normal as it sounded like she got. "You are not going to ruin this for us right when we...argh!" She bent double in the air, wracked as if in a spasm, as energy coruscated from her fingertips and eyes. Suddenly, the crackling red, white, and blue colors (albeit with a decidedly more sinister hue) erupted from Miss Americana and reached down like a crack of lightning to lash against a civilian in the crowd. The young woman, a uniformed Boston police officer, didn't seem hurt - in fact, as the energy erupted into her form, she stayed on her feet and gave a heavily accented laugh. "Yesss! I can feel the power surging in me! Power to fight for truth, justice, and the REAL American way!" She took to the sky, her police uniform changing on her body into a long, flowing Victorian dress that was a brilliant, eye-catching white - except for the red square and sinister blue and white saltire over the chest. "THE SOUTHERN BELLE LIVES AGAIN!" "I'll handle this!" detonated Miss American an instant before she punched her antagonist completely across Boston Common.
  8. I need a DC 20 Will save from Thoughtspeed and a DC 20 Notice check as well. Cho and Thoughtspeed both should make DC 20 Sense Motive checks; opposed by Bluff if necessary.
  9. "Well, I wouldn't worry about Richard Cline and his parties," said Paulette with a superior smile. She looked rather like an older sibling who knew she was better than the younger kids, not that Will knew anything about a look like that. "Some of the younger members of our race enjoy the, ah, sensual side of superiority a little more than they should. But it's just a harmless phase," she added with a little wave of her hand. "Anyway, if your tastes do run to disco music and marijuana," she said scornfully, "they'll be plenty of time for that later. I'm much more interested in the three of you," she said warmly, moving from Cho to Thoughtspeed and back again. "You're all Americans, by your accent, but where are you from exactly? And what are your gifts?" She demonstrated her own by summoning a blade to her hands out of the ether, a flaming construct of psychic energy that she tossed from hand to hand.
  10. Working together, the gods made flesh pushed back against the unnatural storm that had beset Lonely Point. And together their combined godly power, by sheer force of holy will, was able to drive the storm from the sky and end the torrential rains that had strangely wracked the peninsula and the small community of civilians there. The sun was in the sky, the birds were singing as righteousness stood supreme. And Set's hand was right on Thrude's mighty hammer! Just as a thought curled in his ever-febrile mind, suddenly a blinding flash of light erupted from what looked like a nearby warehouse - an impossibly blue and white bolt of pure electricity that hurled itself at the Heavens as if mortals had risen in revenge against Thor, Set, and all the other gods of storm and rain! The gigantic bolt made a tremendous crack in the air and made their hair briefly stand on end, leaving behind afterimages that had to be blinked away as they took in the now-deroofed warehouse that had been the source of the awesome electrical fury!
  11. Actually - that will succeed automatically, as it is not currently opposed; the storm will fade.
  12. Caradoc got on the phone with someone who turned about to be Miss Americana, the famous tech hero commenting that the bomb's payload resembled infectious or "Grey Goo"-style nanites and that it was a good thing the heroes had been there to save the day. A quick search of Newman's desk revealed the Sword of the Liberator, a blade which Caradoc happened to have in hand when first the Darwin police, then the first Australian superhero, Windtracer (thanks to her speed) arrived on the scene. With Newman in heavily-armed Australian federal custody (silent now thanks to the defeat of his plan), Caradoc and Argonaut made sure the nano-bomb went safely into super-custody. Steve might have preferred the nanites go into the hands of Freedom City's supers, but he knew that was an argument for another day - one he'd have to raise with the much more charismatic Miss Americana. He was not one to successfully argue with so many determined Australian superheroes. When his debriefing was done, an exhaustive conversation with Windtracer and other Australian heroes, Caradoc (feeling the first bites of fatigue) decided to head for the hospital where the local emergency staff had rushed Vector. The thoughts of Terminus technology in the hands of people who weren't the Freedom League, Gina, or Dragonfly still bothered him intensely, but as he made a landing on the roof and headed inside the building (using the temporary pass he'd gotten from Windtracer as proof he was a legitimate hero), he did his best to put those thoughts aside. The would-be Annihilist had been defeated and Darwin saved from a technological apocalypse - so why was he yet so tense? As he headed for Vector's private room, he knew there was only one answer. When it came to the Terminus, there was no peace; and there never would be
  13. July 27, 2014 HIT Baseball Field You might think that a bunch of nerds wouldn't be very good at playing softball - but Hanover Institute of Technology attracts all kinds of students! This is a special game between HIT's mighty hurlers, the Lady Myrmidons, and their arch-rivals West River Technical College, home of the Fighting Fisherwomen. All proceeds for the game will go to build a Korean War monument halfway between Toms River and Freedom City, a long-neglected memorial to New Jersey's soldiers who fought in the 'forgotten war' from 1950 to 1953. With the game being played on the 61st anniversary of the armistice that marked the end of the Korean War, the bleachers and grassy stretches by the field are packed with veterans, their families, and active-duty personnel from Lonely Point and other nearby facilities. It's a hot day but the soda is cold and the peanuts are salty, and as the game reaches the end of the ninth inning, it's clear it's going to be a nail-biter: the Myrmidons are at-bat and down by one with two outs, but there are players on the base and Yoder, the stalwart West River hurler who has pitched a nearly perfect game, is starting to flag. Can she hold off a hit as de la Cruz, the towering young woman from the West End with the mighty arm, begins to take the field? Her screaming fans from West River hope so but the hometown crowd, whipped up to a fever pitch by the Lady Myrmidons and their pep squad, have the hometown crowd on their feet and cheering on their champion. This is going to be a real fight.

  16. Clatto Vereta Ahemumahughimicon By Supercape Harrier has 33 PP to spend. Damage 6 (oh god why is there so much blood; Extras: Action [Reaction, +3], Alternate Save [Will], PF: Subtle) [31PP] This represents the unspeakable horrors contained within a mind permanently warped by uncounted massacres and murders. Also add Feature 2 (Cellphone, GPS) [2PP] These are cybernetic implants put inside him by Gina Evans.
  17. Richard took his seat again as the questions moved on to an older black woman, her hair now in a greying mohawk, who had a question to ask about Pure Hell's 1985 reunion at an underground night club in Greenbank. Geez, I guess she's not that old, he added with a start. She's probably as old as we are. It was a little intimidating to remember just how long ago those days had been; he and Paige, with their aging slowed by his temporal manipulation, looked like people in their late 30s. In Hollywood, where most of their coworkers knew how old they were, and among other supers, this could pass for really good plastic surgery. Here, surrounded by people with a personal interest in Freedom City's punk scene, they looked like kids - maybe the kids of some of the very people chronicled in the book. Some of this stuff was twenty-five years ago. Jesus. He looked over at Paige and added in a whisper, "You're still my girl, though."
  18. It was a good question the cat-woman asked - good enough that Steve was able to overcome any surprise at her transformation. "Miss Americana is not herself," he called, his flat, synthesized voice devoid of any hint of his Caradoc persona. He thought fast, drawing on uncounted battles, and his own familiarity with the Miss Americana robot. Gina is capable of reaching me even now - but I am hours away from her by air without the robot. Confident she had not gone mad for flag and nation, he wondered if she had been trapped inside the robot by whatever force was now animating it - something he knew that was a perennial fear given the nature of her powers. "Miss Americana, please return with us to Freedom City." He wanted to strike the robot, hard and fast, before it could access the mechanical parts that could make it an almost unstoppable juggernaut. "Caradoc, I need to go home," agreed Miss Americana before she added as if talking to herself, "No way! Do you have any idea how long I've spent in that place? I am tired of being chained to one place and one person!" With the others seemingly contained, she turned and flew close to Caradoc, a formidable presence indeed. "There is an entire nation that needs saving! As for you, mister, I believe we fought a revolution so we didn't have to bow down to knights and kings and overlords. And your little lion too!" she added, pointing at Sekhmet. "This town is full of Irish-Americans! You might as well spit in their face!"
  19. The fight against the Quisling supervillains was brutal - the already-murderous thugs who had sold their soul to the all-too-real Devil tearing Freedom City apart seemed to have grown harsher and colder, as if they had given away some real part of their basic humanity. Pushed to the limit by the crisis, the heroes didn't quite descend to the level of their enemies - but it was a near-run thing. When it was done and the ships were smashed and the would-be Annihilists (as they'd called themselves) either unconscious, fled, or buried under tons of debris, Fast-Forward found one still conscious - a man he didn't recognize at all, not in generic prison garb, but who had shown enhanced strength and toughness before Wail had shouted him through several parked cars. "Hey! You!" He woke the tattooed powerhouse up with a super-speed punch that smashed his bald head into the concrete. "Where's Clock Queen? What happened to the other inmates at Blackstone!? Answer me, dammit!" The man opened his eyes and responded with a brutally graphic suggestion about Clock Queen's fate, and with his eyes burning with fury, Richard raised his hand with the clear intent of putting it through the former prisoner's head - even though clearer heads could tell he'd been bluffing.
  20. Even for the undead heroes, the city was dark and cold upon their arrival, its population (living or dead - and most likely dead) was nowhere to be seen. Gloved hands in his pockets, eyes red from suppressed fury, Frost led the way - both obvious and tough, he was the natural first choice to lead the way. But by the time they reached the center of town, a rather shabby hammer and sickle statue in the center square that looked even more pathetic in this dying city, it was becoming increasingly clear that wherever Sister Sixtus was - she wasn't interested in company. At the site of the statue, Frost raised his voice and shouted "Sixtus! Sixtus, we have come for you! We have come for vengeance!" Loud as his cry was, in the dead city of blocky apartments and small, bedraggled homes, it went completely unanswered. "You-" he then said things, stomping up and down the brown-grassed square with his eyes flaring red, in vicious parade-ground Russian, that were best not said so that his two lady companions could hear him.
  21. For all that Tensile was the one among their number most familiar with high technology, this place baffled him - he could tell intellectually it was a place of great advancement, perhaps equal to some of the Furion communities he'd visited. But it was also a place that had gone in a very different direction, thus making it (strangely enough) even more alien to him than it was to the people from less advanced timelines. This was a place, he could tell, where things could go wrong indeed if the wrong button was pressed or the wrong word spoken. In between one thought and the next, the mysterious Midnight of the very far future - simply disappeared. Meanwhile, while her cousins sorted through the mystery in the crypt, Sojourner found the key to the whole business - or something close to it, anyway. The late Hendawhit had been something of a student of the Cosmic Coil in his magical research, and sorting through his papers she found the usual guides to various forbidden realms that anyone who knew anything about magic were familiar with - the Hellworlds, the Dark Dimensions, the Netherworlds, the Terminus...but from the margins of the texts, she was able to put something together. Hendawhit had built a backdoor into his casting - a safety device that he hadn't put into place before his death "bekase auf da blud rekwiremants", but one that with so many Hunter-Whites together she could herself cast. It would pull this section of the Cosmic Coil out and discard it, undoing most of what had happened here since just after Hendawhit had begun casting his first spells and even before his death. If she cast it right, and if her siblings joined her in this; they could not only save Hendawhit from his own hubris, but far, far more importantly - she could save her parents. And everybody else.
