  1. And there was a voice in Temperance's head, one that said in a warm, patient voice Be a dear and take some of the hits the boys are dishing out for me, would you? Mamma's got a lot invested in this evening turning out the right way, and I can't afford to get beaten up on behalf of this two-timing lowlife and his stupid little shamaness. I mean really, making deals with the Christian Devil, what did she think was going to happen? Anyway, just go ahead and let them beat you savagely for a while, and then I can do what I came here to do. Ta-ta! She was actually in position guarding Medea before she realized what had happened, and luckily was able to pull herself free from that so-persuasive voice before any real harm could come to her.
  2. http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4406160/ Boom! Group C is gone too
  3. "Oh, craaap..." Fast-Forward succumbed to an infinitesimal moment of panic before he rallied himself. "All right, _I've_ never been to Camlann, but the other Fast-Forward has, he took the kids there..." Shoving aside those thoughts before his wife could find them, Richard began casting, running around their little group in a geometric pattern that enfolded them all, including the protesting Medea, save the Midnight who was defending them all. "We can doitwecandoitwecandoiiiiitttttt..." And then they were gone on that same starry road, the air and ground around them briefly dissolving into a starry night sky that seemed to enfold them all - and then they were somewhere else! But this wasn't right either. The heroes were standing on a bit of suburban blacktop, one end of a cul-de-sac; they were also standing before cheerfully decorated gates that said "WELCOME TO CAMELOT, YE VISITORS!" Green English fields and trees were super-imposed the chintzy tourist attraction that was Camlann; an English suburb seemed to be uneasily occupying space with a reconstructed historical landmark. The locals were still rioting on the streets, with fist-fights and looting; the nearest being an argument between a husband and wife; and husband and wife; one pair in houpelande and doublet, the other in suits, over who owned the building that was half-surbuban dwelling and half-towering Gothic mansion!
  4. http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4404992/ They fail by 10 exactly, and so are staggered, disrupted, disabled - and at -3!
  5. "Yes." And then a shrieking blade was erupting from the Curator's shoulder as Caradoc drove his weapon through the body of the Curator's host, the blade biting deep as it cut through flesh - and this was no ordinary blow. Searing Terminus energies poured into the wound, incinerating the nanites infusing Fenris' mortal body and leaving an all-too-human wound that bled red and silver all at once. And the Omegadrone, the man who had known slaughter and horror by agonizing inches at the hands of the machines that had transformed him into a cyborg, leveled the blade at the walking god. "You are the discarded toy of children who have long since outgrown you, your program endlessly repeating horrors you are unable to imagine for yourself. Come. I show you them!"
  6. Harrier: Attacks Fenris with the Pike! All-Out Attack +5, dropping the DC to hit him to 17 http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4404957/ = 35! Well! That inflicts DC 27 +5 for the crit +5 for the full Autofire bonus. DC 37 Tou save.
  7. "Frances Psion has claimed she is a sovereign citizen of 'the metahuman nation', and refused to answer any questions." Molina narrowed his eyes, but nodded in agreement with what Paige had said. "The state will see about arranging a psychiatric evaluation for her, though given her attitudes about race we ma need t secure a metahuman counselor. As for Gimel Psion, Freedom City does have a specialized foster system for metahuman children, made up of experienced metahuman caregivers. Carolyn has asked to care for the baby, but since she's not the biological mother and she's going to be in the system herself for at least a few weeks, that's not going to be viable." ---- Sam's words got her out of the jam with the cops, and Callie Summers followed her naturally out into the stadium's lobby. "There's a car waiting for you, Kit," she said, smoothly guiding the young thief towards the stairs. "Not outside. On the roof," she added, sotto voiced as they reached the firestairs that Kit had noticed in her earlier investigation had no working security cameras. "Your scholarship is paying off. Jump Psion," she said, her voice seeming to flatten out as they walked. "Theories?"
  8. What followed was not the most graceful moment in the careers of Fast-Forward, Clock Queen, or for that matter the villainous shadow controller who was impersonating Baron Samedi. "Like fun you're Baron Samedi!" taunted Fast-Forward as he vaulted over the breakfast bar. "Where'd you learn your accent, Live and Let Dieee-ah dammit waxed floor!" All the speed in the world couldn't stop Richard from sliding forward with all-too-human dexterity, skidding right past the Baron and onto the other side of the kitchen. Clock Queen joined him a second later, whipping her blade around and cutting the Baron's hat in half without actually touching him. "Lousy punk in a dime-store costume! Hey, quit that!" Shadowy hands were reaching for Clock Queen and Fast-Forward from darkened corners of the kitchen, the two speedsters easily dodging the grasping shadow-limbs. "Far as anyone knows, I'm de real Baron! And I will be the real deal after I beat you interfering do-gooders!" sneered the false Baron, his attacks not quite matching up with his rhetoric. "I learned this from da best!"
  9. Fast-Forward: 42 Clock Queen: 35 Samedi: 21 Thoughtspeed: 20 Hologram: 20 Set: 16 Sekhmet: 13 Fast-Forward: Standard Action: http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4404856/ =19 Boo, well that's a miss. What a jerk. Clock Queen: SWORD http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4404868/ = 17 Well, darn. Samedi: Goes ahead and tries to snare Fast-Forward! http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4404872/ And misses him! Wellll, probably for the best the cameras aren't there. OK, Hologram is up!
  10. A DC 20 Bluff check reveals that's not Samedi at all, but an imposter. Initiative time! Richard goes on 15+27=42 Samedi goes on 21 Clock Queen goes on 23+12=35
  11. Suddenly, a black, shadowy gateway opened in the apartment's kitchenette and out stepped a man in strange garb! With his artfully tattered tuxedo, misshapen but expensive top hat, and skull face paint, he was instantly recognizable as the notorious crime kingpin (and alleged god) Baron Samedi - or at least a very convincing impersonator thereof! He didn't seem to see the group in the foyer at first, instead heading for the refrigerator, opening the door - and looking up to see Clock Queen shrugging as she held up his champagne bottle. He stared at the heroes, and they stared back. "You tink you can enter the private sanctum of da Baron," he sneered after a moment, black shadowfire beginning to coalesce around his hands, "without a fight? I may have gone away for a while, but no one does dat without being eaten by their own shadows!" "This does not mean you were right, Ma!" Richard just had time to shout before the battle began.
  12. "Ach, we believed we were saving the vorld!" declared Litwack, a look of terrible grief on his face. "All of us in the project, We Children of the Fire, we all lost parents, grandparents, whole families to dat schweinhund Hitler and his monstrous deeds! But now all we have done is to kill the very world. I haff seen the casualty reports from Europe and Africa, the millions who died in the bombingsk and the wars...we have killed as many as the mustache ever did! Even America has become a fascist nightmare with these bloodhunts against the superpowered. You know they executed their Centurion as a Red agent?" He scrubbed at his mustache, close to weeping. "And now, now my friends, things have grown even worse." He looked seriously at the heroes as he went on. "My counterpart has been vorking with American super-scientists to build an orbital escape craft for government officials. They believe a war is comingk within weeks or days. There is but one solution open to you. You must travel back to 1923 and prevent this whole horrible timeline from existingk!"
  13. Corse: Using her knowledge as a professional no-fooling historian
  14. http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4403372/ flatfooted! +3+7=+10 http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4403377/ He does get the full Autofire, but they just make ti!
  15. http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4403322/ Group B explodes too!
  16. Fast Forward returns to the scene using an accelerated move. He surges (spending an HP to cancel the fatigue) and attacks Group A with his Area Attack - and hits, thanks to their damaged state. http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4403280/ http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4403287/ All right, Group A is down! B is too damaged to attack. Wail is up.
  17. "Oh, you'll have to do better than that, girl!" sneered Medea, though her hesitation suggested her heart wasn't really in it. "For you see, thanks to my counterpart, the world is mine! All the knights of Camelot will happily ride out to rescue their beloved queen from the Satan-licked-" "Wait a second, your counterpart?" asked a suddenly deeply suspicious Fast-Forward. "So _not_ you?" "Indeed," offered the previously silent Hronos, its robotic voice deep and grave. "This being is not the center of the temporal alteration that has beset this world. I believe I have pinpointed the center of the anomaly - across the Atlantic Ocean at Castlesteads in Britain, a site known in this world as-" "Camlann! The site of Arthur's final victory over Mordred!" Richard snapped his fingers. "That makes sense. I can get all of us across the Atlantic pretty fast, especially if we cheat and do it the magic way. And then we can navigate around-" Suddenly, they were interrupted by a BOOM from above that vibrated the entire dungeon around them - and Midnight's speaking trumpet, the one that connected them to the surface, came to life with a shout from his trusty retainer. "My lord! Battle has come!"
  18. "What?!" demanded Richard, turning back to look at Paige (and by extension, the city), as the two of them ran for their lives. "Are you crazy? It's not our job to deal with that!" There was another explosion, a big one, from City Center, and Richard was nearly knocked off his feet and into the water. They stopped on a shoreline in Bayview and looked, wide-eyed, as a fireball rose from the heart of Freedom City. Streaks of purple lightning were still in the sky and Omegadrones were swarming like black, murderous locusts in the air - sirens rising to match the screams of a terrified city. The earthquake that had accompanied the invasion, which had bent the nearest bridge to the point of unusability, would have been a disaster enough, but this..."That was Freedom Hall," he said quietly, "it must have been." The Hall had long since stood empty; the Centurion having relocated to his secret fortress somewhere in Canada, the Freedom League having dissolved nearly ten years earlier. Richard held Paige's hand and looked at his girl and thought There's nobody else, is there? When he was done thinking about it, he turned and _ran_ - as fast as he'd come before, still holding Paige's hand, but this time back to the battle from which they'd so hastily exited! The city was a blur of carnage around them, but Lincoln seemed to pop with crystal clarity They arrived just as another punishing bombardment of Omega blast tore into Wail, and immediately lept into the action! He left Hologram where she could do her thing, instead targeting an already-damaged group with a super-sonic attack - suddenly the drones Wail had been blasting erupted as one in a mass explosion of sparks and metal, collapsing to the ground after being torn apart at super-speed!
  19. Having made it safely to Dr. Litwack's house, the heroes were actually greeted at the door by the sad-eyed scientist, who sure enough did look like a low-rent Einstein, albeit a much calmer and more subdued version of the wide-eyed mad scientist they'd met in the 'other timeline'. "Ach, I might haff known you vould come. Come in, come in." He turned and invited them inside a small row house crammed with scientific papers and equipment, the yellowed documents stacked freely over vacuum tubes and other old-fashioned computational gear. "So I suppose that since you are in the costumes, you remember the old world? And you know the magnitude of what my friends and I did when we were trying to save so many from such horrors?" He pulled a book from an overstuffed shelf and tossed it to Shadowblade, who opened it to find an underlined account; a short section of a general history of Europe written by an American historian. "1923 - Bürgerbräukeller Massacre. Unknown persons believed to be Communist agents today carried out the murder by incendiary device of over two dozen members of the National Socialist Party of Germany, including Party chairman Adolf Hitler..." Going further led Shadowblade to read about a subsequent Soviet invasion of Germany in the 1940s, one that, coupled with what sounded like a broader European war, had resulted in the use of multiple nuclear weapons in Germany and other European countries, leading to a bitter standoff between nations.
  20. With a deep sigh, Anna started ostentatiously putting her swords back in the walking stick from which they had come, not doing more than exchanging a nod with her daughter-in-law. For his part, Richard said, "This is 21st Century Set. And the young lady here is Sekhmet, she's a cat god." He mentally added And sun god, and justice god, I don't know: are there really gods of more than one thing? Like Paige, Richard had never been to school; unlike her, he hadn't been educated about much of anything. "Evidently the whole snake thing is a thing of the past; I don't know. Set, Sekhmet, this is my wife, Paige Cline. Sekhmet's a big fan of the show!" I figure someone impersonating Set would probably hit the snake stuff up pretty hard, so maybe this is the real Set cut down to size somehow, and some kind of pocket cat-god? It's the ones from the Internet. "They and Ma were just socializing," he said, obviously not eager to come between his wife and his mother. "And she's just packing it in." "Cover your ears, Willy." Clock Queen said with a gesture to her grandson. "The hell I am!" Anna added when it was done. "If I take off the costume and let you take the swords home, I'm not technically breaking parole as long as we don't go outside. Set here is a genuine superhero these days, and no mortal court ever convicted him of anything!"
  21. Group C opens fire on Jive 7+1+5=13+19=32 Yikes! Well, at least in theory that's a DC 27 save for Jive, though I assume Wail will Interpose? Let me know, and I'll get the new round going once you roll.
  22. With a base Tou of +16, that makes his total 32, so he does pass that check. Medea goes ahead and tags Temperance with a Mind Control effect - that's a DC 21 Will save, TT
