  1. Thanks to the very public killing of a notorious supervillain at the hands of a well-known superhero, all the heroes wound up in an extensive debriefing by STAR Squad detectives, one carried out inside an arena surrounded by journalists eager for a scoop. Richard spent much of his time on the phone with the family's attorneys, making absolutely sure that the network had his back and Paige's back as they dealt with this crisis. Conscious of the mental connection Paige was keeping blocked, he kept his thoughts to himself as much as possible. For all that Parker Psion had been an evil old man whose death would probably make things better in the long run, the reality of his wife's mourning and an already-broken family left devastated by this was impossible to ignore. Things were going to change after this. - Back in costume, Kit wound up being interviewed by an AEGIS agent, a gruff middle-aged man with a greying buzzcut who seemed like he might have been far more intimidating if not for her backup - a hard-eyed Eurasian woman in her early forties who introduced herself as Callie Summers. "I'm authorized to speak on the young lady's behalf through her legally authorized educator," she explained, and kept Agent Dumfries from probing too closely into Sam's personal affairs with a few remonstrances the agent's way. "There's no evidence that Kit had any relationship with the Psions before the shooting," Summers told the agent firmly. "I don't know if you're just padding your expense account, but if you have no relevant questions, I believe Kit is free to go?" "All right, just one last question, then," said Dumfries over his pad. "What were your plans for the Psions who were interested in defection?" - "Frances Psion will be held at Blackstone in the pre-trial facility for the near future," Detective Molina was telling Paige, the middle-aged ex-boxer's accented voice deep and slow. "She is a suspect in fatal arson cases in both the United States and Canada, and affiliated with an organization on the Meta-Terrorist watch list. Carolyn Psion is wanted for questioning in several robberies and destruction of property involving her family, but so far she hasn't been accused of violence directed against civilians," he admitted. "You have to understand, Ms. Cline, the Psion family has been on an international terrorist watchlist for a great many years. Right now we're trying to figure out exactly what charges the Psions can be held under." - "Good Lord," said Henry's debriefer, a uniformed officer named Lawrence with a faint West African accent. "And you're absolutely certain there was no provocation from Psion, no psychic attacks or anything of that nature?" He looked very serious; from his age he was too young to remember the days when the defenders of Freedom City actually killed their enemies. "And the Atoms, what did they do after the shooting?"
  2. Anna didn't seem too put off by her grandson's reluctance to do some high cultural vandalism. "So we would hire somebody magic to make the mummies come alive, and then you could be a big hero for putting them down-" "MA!" "Fine, fine." Anna gave Set a look that said You see what I have to put up with. "I promise, Willy, we'll do at least one more sparring session before I go, okay? You two boys don't need to stay around for little old me, anyway," she went on, reassuring her son and grandson. "I didn't put the costume on where anybody could see - and these two really are legit. Give your old ma some credit, I know how to take care of myself on the Internet." Suddenly the walking stick in her hand vaulted upward in an almost impossibly fast blur of motion and came apart, separating into a thin, razor-sharp rapier in one hand and blunt-edged, metal-tipped cane in the other. "C'mon, Sekhmet," she teased, "you ever fight a little old lady and her walker?"
  3. I'll say he was hitting Group A, out of synergy with Wail? They fail that Sense Motive - http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4400095/ And are destroyed
  4. Richard pointed, only at a loss for words for a microsecond or two; nearly an eternity for someone as fast as him. "This is Set, evidently! You remember, the snake guy in my old pictures." "Hey, he didn't just do snakes, he..." Anna looked at Set and shrugged helplessly - while Set had turned into things besides snakes in the old days, he hadn't really partnered with Clock Queen enough for anything. "There was that greyhound-jackal...thing? I always thought you had a lot of commitment, sticking with the snake thing. But no more with the evil snake stuff!" she added to Will, returning her attention to the grandson she obviously doted on. "Now he's totally reformed, just like your old nana." "And this is Sekhmet, who I guess is a cat-god. We haven't really been introduced," Richard added apologetically. "Nana just wanted to socialize with some old friends...you really should have left a note, Ma," he added more seriously. "You know how on edge we all are right now, and how crazy Freedom is." "All right, fine," Anna agreed reluctantly. "I'll leave a note next time I leave. Which is probably soon," she added seriously. Not liking the serious mood a bit, she said, "You know, Seky, my grandson here is really good with a sword! I tried to get him some discount Foundrybots to cut up, but evidently convicted felons aren't allowed to own weapons of mass destruction, thank you very much, Washington. You know where we can get any mummies on the cheap?"
  5. Aw yeah, that's better - and gives you the full +5. http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4398762/ = they actually fail by a total of 14, so they are staggered, disrupted, and disabled - at -3 and no longer able to attack
  6. Group A Tou vs 30 (since it's an Area attack) http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4398720/ = 21 The Omegadrone build I'm using is immune to Fort saves, yowsa! They are shaken and disrupted - they are at -1 to all further rolls and -2, so they are at a total of -3 to all rolls. Group B A teleporter could plausibly take a group flat-footed, yeah. And they're all flat-footed - but that drops their defense to 12, not 11, so that misses!
  7. Less than a year old when her parents had died, Carolyn didn't look much like Paige's oldest brother except around her deep brown eyes - instead, with her willowy body, short stature, and high cheekbones, she looked like Karen Wu, the Chinese-American esper from San Francisco who had herself died only two years after meeting the oldest son of Parker Psion. "I can still hear Gwen," she said reflectively. "Just a little, wherever they are now. She's worried about me and Ember, but I..." She seemed to stiffen her back before she spoke. "I saw it happen, while she was watching. I saw everything. Jack Wolf pulled a gun and he shot Grandpa, Aunt Paige! He killed him for nothing, without even talking, right in front of Gwen! The blood was everywhere; it was on her face, in her mouth, and the first things the Atoms did was rescue Jack Wolf! It was everything Grandpa ever told us would happen if we ever became lost in the flatscan world." --- With Ember stirring, Solar Sentinel flew down to the STAR Squad wagon to drop off his prisoner - and just in time, as Frankie Psion woke up as the power-nullifying cuffs were placed on her. The uniformed officers weren't at all gentle with the prisoner, roughly moving her around once they were absolutely sure the manacles were in place. Ominously, she didn't protest despite her temper and the feelings Henry knew she had about humans. Her body couldn't burn, but her eyes could, and she fixed a gaze of murderous hatred on Henry as she was loaded into the back of a heavily-armored paddy wagon. "None of you are safe anymore," she said in a voice like a smoldering bonfire as the doors closed in front of her face; her icy fury putting a sizzle in the air as she disappeared from view.
  8. Pitiless as the ravening locusts they were, the Omegadrones kept coming - but at least now they were targeting the heroes and not simply murdering the civilians, a deed they did with the casual brutality of cats picking apart a mouse or pigeons tearing apart a crust of bread on a sunny Lincoln day. A group of forty turned as a massed unit in the air and opened fire on Wail, their pikes shrieking with energy as they bombarded the sonic champion with cold black fire that seemed to scorch the soul like nothing Wail had felt before, near-misses cratering the pavement all around him. The city was exploding into battle around them, sirens interspersed with the echoing sound of explosions and gunfire, with Omegadrones in the sky overhead like flocks of Satan's own birds, but here in Lincoln there was only one great battle going on and 1-800-Justice was right in the heart of it!

  10. "Hey, that's great!" Even knowing this was the shapeshifting god who had once left him in a locked room with a twenty-foot king cobra "to encourage the family's gift, haw-haw-haw!" Richard felt sorry for the look in the kid's eye and changed the subject. He knew all about family troubles that you couldn't do a damn thing about, especially that week. "Believe me, it's a lot better going straight than you'd think. Safer, since you get your ass kicked a lot less, easier, since you don't have to go out and commit stuff to get some action, and you make a lot more money when you don't blow it all on hookers and blow or bury it in your treasure vault. So, uh, Ma," he added, "how long are you gonna be hanging around here?" "I'm keeping my own TIME," Anna informed her son archly. "I spent an hour in the kitchen when your wife was sleeping and I must have cooked thirty or forty of my casseroles. Your freezer is stuffed, your carpets are clean, which means I'm free to socialize with one old friend and get to know another one a little better." "Maaa..." Richard sighed, but smiled indulgently anyway - he wasn't the kid his mom had raised anymore, but she was still his mom. "She's spent the whole week at our place trying to behave, and I guess we've all been a little on edge. We...hey, whose apartment is this, anyway?" he asked the others suspiciously. "This can't be yours, because no version of Set wouldn't have a picture of himself around here somewhere."
  11. The Precise feat, or hitting a high attack DC, KD
  12. "Hey! Medea, this is low even for you!" Fast-Forward zipped right past Unferth and his ghostly gal, both of whom seemed to be standing still, and belted Medea right in the mouth, knocking the immortal witch back a step. "Since when do you hire yourself out to crazy Vikings with girlfriends from Hell?" "Damn it, Dickie!" she whispered, "I am paying back a very large debt right now, so if you know what's good for you, you'll back off!" She waved the knife at the park ranger, then at Richard for emphasis. "Do you know how grotty this town has gotten since Sebastian went malakas? Trust me, I'm just here for the light show!" "You've got a woman tied down and you're going to cut out her heart!" Richard pointed out as he zipped past, the world resuming its normal speed as his powers slipped things back to normal. Can't hold down the Pause button for long, or the tape starts to slip. "I'm not gonna just let you walk away from this!" - "If you wish to be a hero, _save her!_" taunted Unferth, who suddenly hefted his mighty axe and hurled it - not at Cobalt Templar or Temperance, but at Stronghold! The glowing blade smashed into the orange-energy-armored heroine, sending her hurtling backwards out of sight and into the forest beyond, knocking her cold with a single mighty blow. As the ax returned to his hand, glowing with fell necromantic energies, he shouted, "Who's next!"
  13. "Feel free," said Tomorrow. "My knowledge of your future has been placed behind blocks to prevent any tampering, even what I might do by accident, so you may search as you wish!" Sunset's scan gave her the picture of an interesting mind - there were glimpses of heroes she'd heard of and heroes she'd hadn't, stretching back into the distant past of Freedom City and far into its future. The Second World War seemed to burn especially bright in Tomorrow's, er, Thomas Morgen's memories, both with vivid recollections of the Liberty League and with a feeling of great, wrenching sadness at odds with the vigorous man before her - and then the link was gone as she found what she needed, and they were off! The terrain was quite rough, much rougher than a mere million years of geological subsidence could have done to the soft soil near Freedom City, and they made slow progress as they headed up towards the forest of buildings that was their destination. Tomorrow explained that "In the future, humanity will learn to shape the planet as they desire, but choose to leave their efforts...unfinished. If we have time, perhaps I will show you the House of Leaves in what was Asia. Magnificent structure, built entirely out of...ah, here we are." He looked up at the vast bulk of the great brown and black cylinders all around, the ground where they stood cast into shadow by the skyscraper-sized stumps. Overgrown with plants and (from the sound) playing host to a great many birds, they were a sign that the planet itself was going along just fine.
  14. History: The Dragon is actually a contemporary of Sunset's - a person born in the 20th century who has since ascended to near-godhood through formidable psychic powers. Tomorrow does not know her name, as such was lost to history. Physical Sciences/Technology: The sky is gorgeous here, with several visible comets (though none seem to be headed towards Earth) in glorious display against the sky. There are a variety of moving lights in the sky that don't seem to be stars or planets, another sign that the Solar System itself is still inhabited. The sky is very clear; the comet winter must have recently passed. This snow will probably melt in the local summer; another reason to retrieve the Ark quickly as it may cause local landslides/subsidence. +14 will get Sunset around in the rough local terrain, no worries! Let me know if there's any more information she'd be specifically looking for, SC
  15. "Oh my god," said Richard, looking appalled. "Jeez, that's about the worst thing I ever heard. If Paige hadn't felt it in her head, I'd have said it was some crazy illusion." He looked down through the hole in the roof at where his wife was still bending over the pitiful remains of her father, and bit his lip, momentarily at a loss for words. The sound of arriving sirens, and heavy vehicles that had to be Freedom City's STAR Squad, told him they'd better get on the ball fast. "I've...never actually met Jack Wolf, but from what I heard I don't think he'd up and kill somebody either," he reluctantly agreed with Tesla. "But you're gonna bring him back down, right?" he said with a gesture to the distant Goodman Building. "Mind-controlled or not, somebody who isn't Chase Atom is gonna have to prove he wasn't in his right mind if he killed somebody." "He'll speak to law enforcement," agreed Tesla, "but not like this, not when he's recovering, and certainly not down here. He's an old man, and two Scarab-level psychics penetrated his conscious and unconscious mind." Like Argent, Tesla didn't seem to have the same hostility towards Richard that she felt towards the other member of the feuding clan. "Our grandfather is scanning him now for any further signs of tampering." Meanwhile, Argent was looking at Kit, half-torn, before Richard said "Hey...hey, Carolyn, right? Or is Gwendolyn?" He smiled a little sheepishly and took a tentative step towards her. "Paige can tell you guys apart even in the pictures, but I never could. Just my luck, I guess," he said with a shrug. "Listen, I'm not real good at making speeches, but you don't just have family wherever your cousins went just now. Maybe you'll have to deal with the cops," he admitted, "but you won't have to do it alone. You've got family here, and friends too. You and your kid." He'd made that leap fast enough, for all that the implications sickened him. Not again... Carolyn Psion licked her lips nervously, cradling the baby in her arms. "It's...it's actually Julie's," she admitted, her voice full of shame. "Gwendolyn and I can't. My grandfather thinks it's something to do with us being twins. That's why I can't leave," she finally said, looking almost apologetically at Kit. "Not till I know the baby is going somewhere safe, and not until I know why Jack Wolf murdered my grandfather." She looked down through the hole in the roof too and said, "My grandfather told us you got Aunt Paige hooked on marijuana and cocaine and prostituted her on television for money." Richard's cheeks flushed at that but he went on, "No. She got _me_ to stop using cocaine. She's really great. Come down and meet her," he offered. "We'll make sure she doesn't run off," he added to Tesla and Maximus. "Come with me?" Carolyn asked Kit, still looking a bit uncertain, as she looked down at the future that awaited below.
  16. "Ma! He's like seventeen!" Richard had grown up with the idea that his mom really liked men and they really liked her, a fact she'd never been shy about concealing from him. But this guy was..."C'mon!" "Oh! No, no, it's fine," said Anna, winking at Set and then giving a more serious look to her son. "This is the real-deal Set, honey, he just turned back the clock a little." Affectionately, she put an arm around the godling's shoulders. "And this is Sekhmet, she's a cat goddess! Rawr!" She made 'scratching' gestures at the air, and gave an affectionate, almost grandmotherly smile Sekhmet's way. "They're an all right coupla kids." "I...well, okay then. I will take your word, Ma, since you know I can't hear about you hob-nobbin' with crooks, right?" He covered his ears in a "hear-no-evil" position before turning back to the others. He automatically went to the fan of the show first. "You like the show?" he asked brightly. "That's great! You know, we could use somebody who can do powered stuff on camera," he offered. "I've been wanting an Egyptian thing for years but since we couldn't get Horus, the producers said there was no point." He added in Set's direction, in a not-unfriendly fashion, "So did you drink too much of the old ambrosia, or...?" He shrugged. "Is everybody up there a teenager now?"
  17. http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4396536/ = Richard goes on 43 Let's go ahead and say there are three groups of 20 Omegadrones each. These are green troops, so they get +1 Attack, +4 Damage, +1 Defense, no Tou or Init bonuses, and they are at -3 on the Morale table - as well as an additional +5 given their sizes. Area attacks against them do +2 The three groups go on http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4396555/ = 20, 19, and 4 Fast-Forward: 43 Group A: 20 Group B: 19 Wail: 16 Jump: 14 Hologram: 7 Jive: 6 Group C: 4 Fast-Forward runs away! At Speed 10 and moving all-out, he and Paige can be eight miles away in a round. He takes them out over the ocean! Group A and Group B make a combined attack vs. Wail. >Omegadrone base stats If you're using Wail's current sheet, Giz, I believe the DC to hit him is 18 before he acts in combat? Checking, they hit him even if he's not flat-footed, sooo. The drones have +7 to attack +5 for their Force Modifier and +1 for being green troops. http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4396571/ And they both hit, ouch, with one as a crit! OK so that's 7 + 2 + 5 = 14 DC 29 Tou save for Wail.
  18. Help yourself! Feel free to pick apart Tomorrow's sheet on 138 of the FC book - I would recommend things like Knowledge (History), Knowledge (Technology), Survival, Climb, etc, given the research they're undertaking and the rough conditions of the far future in which they are residing.
  19. Caradoc took a quiet moment to size up the situation, stepping aside to allow the others to enter. This was a situation with which he was very familiar, having had both sweet and bitter results from interrupting a mastermind at their work. The problem with an attack by surprise at this juncture was that, without being able to see Fenris or whatever being had replaced him in his flesh, an attack might do nothing, angering the monster, or might do far too much and simply kill the innocent human genius behind all these transformations. And for now, that was one step the former Omegadrone was not prepared to take - not when so far the only casualty of this situation had been the freedom of one man. So far, anyway. Drawing back the blade of his pike, he began to circle to the left, laying down a circle of covering fire for the others should the occupant of the chair wheel and open fire.
  20. "I've gotta admit, he came out a lot better than he had any right to. I wasn't the best mama sometimes." Clock Queen reflectively poured herself another glass. "You-know-who's still in Providence, can ya believe that? Another year or so and it'll be forty-five years since that psycho clown let them lock him away because a bunch of hippies ruined his all-American groove. That's what happens when you outlive your TIME." Clock Queen's vendetta against her old partner, and Richard's father, was something that Set remembered well enough. "Everybody's either locked up, dead, crazy, old, or 'reformed'" She said the last word with a palpable sneer. "But my kid's all right, even if that wife of his is practically Donna Reed with brain powers. Those damn Psions, I-" Suddenly, there was a zip out on the balcony, and a new figure appeared - a man in a black and white costume that Set hadn't seen in nearly forty years. Or had never seen at all, really, depending on how you looked at it. "Ma!" said Richard, only slightly winded from searching the entirety of the Waterfront district. "What are you doing here? Who are these people?" "I am having a civilized conversation with two friends of mine!" shot back Anna, getting in her son's face despite his being taller than her by at least six inches. "I am a grown woman and I can talk to whoever I want! I'll have you now this is Set and Sekhmet, who I met on the Internet!" "This is...hey!" Richard abandoned the argument fast and turned to the two new-style celebrities. "Hey, so that was you Ma was talking to! Nice. I thought that was just some marketing thing for the new Gerard Butler thing."

  24. "You sound like my kid." Anna tossed back the whole glass and sat it down on the counter. "'Ma, you need to stop getting drunk in front of the kids! Ma, stop teaching Willy how to pick locks! Ma, stop teaching Holly dirty jokes! Ma, stop making crime look fun.'" I've been living in that house a whole week, and it's like living in a goddamn halfway house all over again." She sighed, rubbed her cheeks, and for a moment seemed her age before she added, "Anyway, I'm glad to hear you're happy, kid," she said encouragingly to Set. "The old Set wasn't such a bad guy, but he always looked so dour. If you're happy, I'm happy for you. And you, Sekhmet," she added, "you're a girl with spunk, and I like that. Half the girl heroes I knew were too goody-goody to stand up for themselves, and you-" She looked at Set and covered her mouth, eyes going wide with joy, her earlier 'down' moment completely forgotten. "Wait a minute...so was that thing with you and Nick Rourke legit?" she asked. "That's Nero, big fire guy," she added to Sekhmet. "Damn! We gotta get into Providence, Sammy C owes me fifty bucks if that thing with you guys happened."
