  1. Lacking the nocturnal vision of most of his counterparts, the tunnel was dark to Comrade Frost with the exception of the rapidly moving sides, the outlines of his fellow heroes, and especially the heated outline of the lovely Tiamat. Later, later... As Gaian Knight reported the obstacle that lay ahead, Frost weighed the potential target before them with the colleague under threat on the other end. Leaving Fleur to fight alone wasn't something he was comfortable doing, but on the other hand he had had plenty of occasions to see that she was powerful indeed. "I suggest we kill this now," he said, eyes glowing red in the darkness beneath his parka's hood. "Cut off root and remove obstacle from Fleur de Joie's way. One of us, maybe you, dragon, go up and help her with destroying whatever abomination lies upon surface. Is most efficient way of dealing with problem."
  2. http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4076498/ Sharl goes on 20.
  3. Tou roll: http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4073721/ = 17 Hah hah, that's a little much. Assuming I do get a Complication HP from all these horrors = http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4073722/ =28 with the HP So that's an entirely reasonable bruise. Harrier could not beat that Grapple on a nat-20, so I will let that bide.
  4. By way of response, the armored knight fired a blast of shrieking white energy from his blade. The disguised entropic energy didn't melt the tough metal that held the steel tank together, it didn't blow it apart - it simply evaporated a round hole big enough for a man to step through, cutting even through the molten steel inside the tank to perform a similar 'removal' on the other side of the vessel. As molten steel cascaded through the building, sending those few workers who hadn't fled Caradoc's arrival running in terror of their lives, flames went with them as wood and lesser metals flashed to flame and cinders as the molten inferno roared down on them. Steve let the wave brush him, hot enough to flash his armor to crimson red, before he fired his jets and roared up out of the flaming abyss to confront the gunman who had fired on him from the roof. As the man's eyes widened in terror, Harrier said "Your gods have abandoned you." in a voice like cold steel over flaming death. As he flew out of the building, an explosion erupted in the lot behind it - no doubt fire and flame had met something combustible, sending a pyrotechnic eruption into the air that must have been visible a mile away. He landed amid the crowd on the street and pointed to where he'd last seen the other heroes, calling out in Caradoc's voice, "Come, ye peasants, if you want to live-" It wasn't until he heard the screaming that he realized something was wrong - a wide-eyed, earth-shattering, hysterical screaming that was all too familiar to him, people in the tattered garb of Freedom Cityites backing away from him as if ready to rush back into the flames, or towards the arriving constabulary. When he turned to an unbroken shop window, he saw the worst thing he could imagine - his reflection. An Omegadrone has invaded Avalon.
  5. Standard Action: Harrier blasts the tank open, sending a cascading wall of FLAME through the factory. (Good thing their little tete-a-tete let the slaves flee the building!) Move Action: Fly up out of the way, being scary as all Hell on the way, and land on the street outside. I'm just going to say his device is not working at this point, to make for more drama.
  6. "Good good," said Frost seriously, nodding in satisfaction at the words of the two new arrivals as he took in his own interpretation of their reaction to their situation. "It is well that you are ready to be man as well as god. And woman as well as lioness," he added to Sekhmet, mindful not to exclude the ferocious lion-woman. "Whatever fate has brought you here, I am sure you will master it as so many have before." He broke out in a smile and walked away from the pair, folding his hands and taking his seat again at the table. "In the meantime, ah, such a delightful report this will make. Gods made mortal, gods defeated by heroes, and the world becoming so much...sunnier! Even with god of darkness among us! Albeit rather...lighter than he once was."
  7. "Then let us go," said Frost as he moved to join Gaian Knight. "I can crack floor if necessary," he offered, not sure of the geokinetic's true power. He turned and studied the figure of the scientist for a moment, considering his fate, and shot a glance at the others. "I suggest we bring informant with us. If he should blab, enemy would be alerted - if he does not blab and we fail, I suspect it would go hard for him and family." Maybe this particular place and situation was a new thing for Frost, but he knew what dictators were like well enough. "And local who knows story can be of help to us." He gave the man a frank stare and said, "You know there is little you can do to betray us. If confronted by your god, tell her you were threatened with frozen statue. Will be convincing."
  8. "I'll be all right," said Mark after a moment's thought. "I think...I think I'm ready to talk to her like a grownup now." Privately he wasn't sure how well his mom was going to take the conversation, and while he was sure she'd eventually get the help she needed, the messy reality of it was more than he wanted Erin to have to see. "I may call you if she wants to hear the gory details about the fight with Curtis. She'll be really glad you took him out so fast. Like you said, I have to be there for her, however it goes. It'll be pretty rough...but it can't be worse than when she asks me when Nina and I are going to give her a grandkid." He actually blushed faintly at that one as he got out of the car alongside Erin. "But I think that's a story for another day. I'm just glad we pulled this one off."
  9. Frost attacks the creature. http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4060200/ =20 DC 27 Tou save for it
  10. Sharl squeezed her hand back and smiled, feeling pretty good about the meeting. Maybe he and Eliza didn't have the kind of future that some of his classmates dreamed about, but he liked her, he liked her family, and he certainly liked the fact that they'd been getting busy upstairs just a couple of hours earlier. "Your parents are great," he whispered to her truthfully, glad they weren't pressing him about the vague hints he had to admit he was probably dropping. Maybe their being part of that weird magical subculture had its advantages after all. "See, I didn't even make a fool of myself." It wasn't that he'd lost his convictions about the way the world worked, but he'd grown up enough to know that not everyone appreciated his insights.
  11. With the dinosaur down, Edge ran forward enough to take in the whole scene - or as much as he could given the stealthy nature of his teammates. "Okay, fairy Nazis is a little weird, I'll grant you!" he called to the others, his voice projected through Eve's telepathy to whoever his powerful voice couldn't reach. He climbed up on a plaster display that showed life inside a prehistoric cave, rising above the scene even as his voice rose out to reach everybody. He understood Eve's message about what the bad guys were, at least a little - Changeling had always seemed a little uncomfortable around him when they were teaming up, but he knew enough to understand fairies. or thought he did, anyway, and that was probably good enough. "But we're the Liberty League, we fight weird implausible stuff all the time! Remember the radioactive cockroaches on Venus in the future? That makes these guys look like just a bunch of St. Patty's Day hooligans who decided to play dressup with Uncle Hans' clothes! Let's show them what we think of Nazis from another dimension in Freedom City!"
  12. Edge spends an HP to Inspire (yeah, it's kind of like that) and takes a full-round action in the process. I will hold an HP in reserve for Luck Control to make the first leprechaun to do well on a Tou save this round reroll and take the worst of two rolls.
  13. Bullets from the rooftop spang-spanged against Caradoc's armor, the soldiers above shouting encouragement to each other and curses against the target below. But the taunting stopped as massed rifle fire didn't so much as knock down the heavy, heavily-armored figure, and as Steve advanced on the factory they were guarding for a terrible moment it was all too terribly familiar. Steve actually stopped in his tracks at the thought, for a moment lost in other worlds and other times, until the memory of those he'd come to save pushed away the howls of despair that tugged at his memory. So he pushed back the grief and loss and continued his advance, armored feet ringing against the cobblestones beneath his feet, and flew up to the level of the rooftop where the soldiers had been firing on him. As another round of bullets bounced off, he raised his hand, extended his index finger, and wagged it back and forth silently before rocketing towards the factory. He crashed through the ornate skylight, sending lead bars and glass crashing towards the floor below, but didn't hesitate, instead plunging directly to the concrete floor below, hard enough to crack it beneath his armored feet. He snapped his 'sword' open and began charging it, the Terminus blade shrieking like a damned soul audibly even over the sound of the panicking crowd of workers and the thumping machinery. Surrounded by the starving and overworked, grim-faced overseers everywhere, roaring inhuman machinery around him, for a moment it was like coming home. And at that thought, he aimed the now eye-searingly bright, howling-loud blade at an open-topped vat of molten steel just a few feet away and called as loud as his muffled, metallic voice would allow, "GET! OUT! NOW!"
  14. Standard Action: DC 30 Intimidate vs. the soldiers, with the idea of making them flee the unstoppable behemoth in terror. Move Action: Fly 500 ft to the factory roof, through the skylight, and onto the floor.
  15. Looks okay. With a little points-juggling, you could stick her Growth and Density together into Container 8 (Alternate Form) [40PP] Y/N?
  16. A wash of icy cold flashed over the fleeing woman, her skin paling white as her bones and muscles tensed up from extreme cold. From inside the cloud of whirling ice and fog that was Comrade Frost's body, the thermovore laughed. "You see there are disadvantages to a solid body, my dear - one can only freeze one's flesh and blood so much before it becomes hard...as ICE." When he was done with that, he reached over and scooped the artifact right out of her paralyzed hands, his icy body transforming back to flesh as he went. "You see? This is problem with life of crime and indecency in public streets - there is nothing you can have that a clever man cannot take from you."
  17. The temptation was to say "No", as had been drilled into Sharl from childhood when it came to the supernatural. "I believe there are things that science doesn't understand yet," he finally said after a hesitation that stretched perhaps a beat too far. "And that the best way to understand those things right now is by unconventional means." He thought for a moment, hearkening back in his mind to just before his arrival on Earth. "In my home city a few years ago, we were beset by...signs. Strange mutations in people's flesh, doorways to other places that opened and closed, people walking through walls and even falling through the Earth...it turned out there was a scientific explanation for it, but the government would never have figured it out because they only had one way of understanding it. Till superheroes came, and saved us."
  18. Talking amongst themselves, Erin and Mark decided it made the most sense for Mark to discuss this situation with his mom personally. Mark drove back, as he had arriving, and was unusually quiet as they made their way back to his house. When they were almost there, he finally said, as if saying something he'd rehearsed in his mind, "I'm sorry if what I said about family was insensitive, earlier." He gave Erin a look that seemed to confess he honestly didn't know if it was. "I'm really glad you were there for me today." He smiled shakily, his cheeks blushing just a little. "If it means anything, Erin, I consider you part of my family too, even if they've been pretty messed-up lately."
  19. Frost snapped his fingers, then said, "Fleur de Joie cannot face monster alone. We have done what we can here - it is time to act." Gadfly though he was, the Russian thermovore was a veteran campaigner. "Gaian Knight, if plants are too thick to sort through, then perhaps villain can be found through earth, eh? San Francisco is earthquake country; there can only be so many places that creature can roost without triggering tectonic damage." He shook his head, still marveling at that particular scientific discovery. "This is not earth-spirit of which I know," he added darkly, gloved hands in his parka pockets. "She would not act secretly, she would be seen, and be seen, at all times. And this kind of deeds would be beyond her." He hmmed. "Willow, you should go to Fleur's side as her acolyte. Wait in plants if possible? See if she needs aid."
  20. Frost sat across the table and stared at Set and Sekhmet for a long moment before rising to his feet. "You poor people," he finally said. "And I mean this with every word. To fall from heavens, even by choice, is no small thing. And here you are on Earth, and things are as they are." He hmmed for a moment, then brightened himself, clapping his hands together and raising a faint puff of white mist. "And for now, this is delightful! Come, we shall find you both honest proletarian work and it will be marvelous, yes. If you regain divine heritage and turn yourself to wickedness, you will be defeated again, as is the way of the world, and if not..." He shrugged. "As for my Lady Hel," he said sociably, "she is as ever Death, cold and grey and patient. You could learn much from this. Say, there is thought. Have the two of you an education in the ways of 21st century - this can be easily arranged. "

This is an ancient archetype - Paganini joked about getting his powers from the Devil, as did several medieval troubadours, but it's probably most famous in North American music in a context of the blues. Note that there's also an inheritance here from Legba, the West African trickster deity who also liked to hang out at the crossroads and make deals with passersby. (Hoodoo Blues got around any potential pitfalls here by mentioning that Legba sometimes thinks it's funny to pretend to be the Christian Devil, but sometimes that really is the devil, yeah, so watch what you say and what deals you make by night). I had his powers come specifically from Amdusias, who some of you may recognize as a Final Fantasy/Maple Story character, but who originally comes from the Ars Goetia as the chief musician in Hell and its arch-trumpeter - just the sort of demon to make an offer too good to refuse to a blues musician down on his luck in 1920s Mississippi. He can blast the eardrums of a particular target, blow a note so strong it bowls men over, or just play so sweetly that his listeners are compelled to dance! Rather than limit him to a Device, I went ahead and said that he can magically summon a trumpet at any time and let it roll! I went with the idea that he really was a great musician even before his infernal deal, but making that deal with the Devil was just so tempting at the time. But now it's time to earn redemption for that one mistake made so many years ago, or perhaps made just yesterday behind a Freedom City honky-tonk. The blues never die, after all. Naturally, in Freedom City, a mediator in his discussions was probably Mr. Infamy. Why does he fight so well? Because if you read the origins of the early bluesmen, they grew up in violent settings the equal of any sci-fi urban dystopia - this guy has ample reason to be good with his fists, and that he has reasons to throw a punch before taking out his trumpet and blowing.

Rather than a straight conversion of Plex, however, I got to thinking about the general idea of "construct with magic powers" - and that led me to this fellow, a rabbi and student of kabblah who didn't just build a golem but who put his very soul into it! Perhaps he was terminally ill and wanted some means to continue his fight for good, or maybe he came back as a ghost and possessed a clay statue in order to guard some treasure or family member - or maybe he's simply a sentient golem awake and aware long enough to investigate the magic that lies at the root of his condition and put it to good use! He's not as good a grappler as a real powerhouse or as knowledgeable as a 'real' mystic (or as mobile as either), but on the other hand he's impervious to most forms of harm and mortal concerns and can punch his way out of a lot of problems. I drew his array from the powers of the Golem of Prague = he can turn himself invisible and do the same with someone he's carrying and summon the spirits of the dead to his aid (which makes sense, given what powers his very reanimation), while the poisonous breath is drawn from the clay golems of D&D. As with TT's Patriotic Golem, it's easy enough to have him regenerate if he does take an injury, just give him a mudbath. He also has sufficient knowledge to slap on some enchanted healing of his own if no natural earth is available. One interesting angle to take with this guy would be to make him a human WWII veteran who has now died of old age and become a superhero like the ones he fought alongside in Europe, perhaps reanimating Golemeth, the Polish golem killed in 1941 by the Ubersoldatenin OTL - or he could be a holdover from that very conflict, still alive and active in the modern era.
