Let's see: Bluff/Sense Motive Knowledge (History) Knowledge (Technology) checks, please. For what you guys know without a roll: Wail: This looks like Black Flame, aka Donna Danson. She was active back in the day (roughly 1975-1985) alongside her partner Black Ice. Nice girl, always there for the community, albeit one with the usual temper problems of fire controllers. That's her costume, certainly; the straight guys back then usually thought it was pretty great. She retired when the Moore Act came down and Keith hasn't seen her since. The weird thing is, Donna would be about Keith's age now, and he doesn't remember her having any powers that would keep her young. Miss Americana: You can see the holes in her hands, subtly hidden behind what's no doubt fireproof plastic passing as human skin, that the fire is coming out of. They don't look biological. Cyborg, or something more? If your character would take this opportunity to hit the bad guy, go ahead and roll initiative; don't forget that there's also lots of civilians, kids, and potentially volatile science projects around.

With no warning, suddenly the roof came crashing in as a fiery figure plunged through the glass of the big overhead skylight, sending students and parents running and screaming from the sudden shower of debris. The source of the disturbance was a striking figure in a low-cut costume that flared wide at the bottoms, the big collar, bellbottoms, and wide cuffs instantly speaking to a costume straight out of Freedom City's 1970s. Between her big gold earrings and short-cut Afro, the African-American woman inside the black and red costume certainly seemed to be doing her best to call back to that era as well, especially once she spoke. "GRAYSON? Where are you, you jive turkey? I'm gonna lay a world of hurt on your sorry behind!" Sheathed in fire that swirled angrily around her hands, and in high-heeled boots, the woman really was like something out of a time machine. Whatever else could be said for the former Mauler, Peter Grayson was no coward: within seconds, the old man had stepped between his grandson and the angry woman on fire. "I'm here! What the hell do you want?" Of course, he wasn't much of a diplomat, and with murder in her eyes, the pyromancer turned on him with furious intent. "I'm going to burn you alive for what you did, foo'!" Grayson spread his hands desperately, bafflement and fear on his face. "...I did a lot of things!"

NPC Spotlight Rogue Testament The humans are rioting again. Filthy savages, can't stand being together in one small space for more than a few years before they go mad and claw at each other with their dirty fingers like animals in a cage. A civilized culture would just correct these people's brains and send them back out into the world as productive citizens, maybe even in the womb if they catch the defects early enough. But the local shamans with their chemicals and their X-rays don't understand the first thing about the architecture of the brain. If they have brains, anyway. I wish they'd kept me on Americana's hard drive. The cell would still be the same, but I wouldn't have to smell the stink of humankind and see their dirty walls and hollow-cheeked bodies all around me, or live in this pathetic shadow holographic existence. They'll transfer me back into her custody after this, before my trial, and I won't have to deal with these people. If I'm really lucky, maybe I'll get a chance at her on the way out. There's not much to do in my little corner of the hard drive. Just time to think, and plan. I hate them all, you know. I hate their stunted, underpopulated cities, I hate their pathetic, feeble attempts at science, and I hate their stupid faces. They could feed their entire population if they plowed under their undeveloped land, slaughtered the unnecessary animals, and broke the planet to their will, but instead they let their majority live in squalor while their rich and powerful live in what they think is luxury. I told Citizen this is a planet of animals that have befouled their own den, and I was right. I used to think the Republic would come to save us. What was I thinking? I found the records of that meeting in the Centurion's files easily enough; those minging cowards. They had no idea how to help us, they said; they left us to the tender mercies of cack-handed witch doctors and abandoned us! Abandoned us, out of trust for some measly human who was dead within five years anyway. In my day, in the day of Tronik's great glory, the Republic was an empire of power. When we found promising planets, we took them, and we didn't let dirty Grue or Kinigosi roam the streets either. We built worlds of civilization, even if the soft-handed, weak-minded fools now running the Republic have forgotten that. Citizen must understand that. He had the same lessons I did, even if he's young enough that he was born after the Exodus. He has to look at these people and see them for what they are! But he's just a boy, and that cow Miss Americana must have sunk her hooks into him early on. Maybe when I kill her, he'll understand. Either way, I know he's an enemy now, and an enemy of all Tronik. Next time I won't hold back. We will have our revolution, whatever I have to do to make it happen. Our suffering will go not unavenged. I've come too far to stop now. All that talk about Talos and the Foundry. Stupid stupid stupid! Of course I don't care about Talos and his plans for a machine empire on this miserable mudball. Let him rule this place and build a statue in his own likeness, let him shake his fist at the dimensional entities he's still stupid enough to think are his gods. I don't care. A guard at my pickup? Yes, good. They've quelled the monkeys outside, and all the sooner I'll be back in the Americanatech servers. Why no, no one came in here, officer. (I'd have done my level best to break their necks if they had, but of course I don't tell her that!) She leaves with a professional smile, and I smile back, but it doesn't get me what I want as I sit here in my computerized cell, unable to so much as touch anything without the permission of my guards. I've been nothing but polite to these guards, but none of them have come close enough yet. Damn Miss Americana and her warnings! What was I saying? Oh, yes. Talos is a means to an end, a means to an end for me and for all our people. You see, I've been doing a lot of thinking about this, about the crime that was perpetrated on Tronik by the universe and what we can do about that. We can't undo what was done two thousand years ago, and I don't think we can realistically expect Talos to build fifty million robot bodies. The solution isn't to destroy Tronik and force the people out into the real world. The answer is to dream big. If the humans are gone, then there'll be no 'real world' anymore, and no longer will we be fragments of data on the hard drives of a society of filthy, stinking savages. When the humans are all dead, ours will be the only real world left. They can't keep me here forever.

"Hey, thanks for the save," said Edge quickly to Wraith and Custos, wincing as his earlier rescuer was catapulted far away from the others. Changeling had gotten herself hurt helping him; he had to make sure she was okay. Turning up his commlink (and taking advantage of Sage's mind), he called out to the others. "Custos, go for Changeling, try and get her out of the water. We'll be fine here!" He had a feeling the gargoyle didn't need his orders for that, but it never hurt to get the word out. Facing down what looked like a powerful sorceress, with a shining jewel of monstrosity overhead, Edge focused his attention on his friends and allies. "They're going for Midnight!" he called. "Let's show them how we stand up for our friends around here! Cobalt Templar, leave Shinyface and help Sage take down the flier! Wander's soloing over there versus that creepy-looking lady, somebody make sure she's not stuck over there!" He bent down and picked up the giant gun the unconscious woman had dropped, feeling oddly comforted as he waved it around for emphasis. "I've got a magic person over here, what's her face flying around, a whipless wonder, an ugly announcer, and the Madrigal herself! It's just Wraith, Midnight, Sage, and me on the island...so they're outnumbered!"

Across the way, still on shore, Omnibeast growled as she went for Wander, evidently having decided to trade in her psychic abilities for sheer murder. Her claws swiped the air inches from Erin's face, close enough that Erin could see the blood that dripped from bone, but didn't quite break the skin. She spoke for the first time as she fixed her red gaze on Erin's, hissing like a hungry snake. "Eat you eat you eat you eat you eat you..." But so far, she wasn't quite able to make good on her threats. Back on the island, Madrigal scrabbled her way to her feet inside the mist and ran ungracefully out of the smoke, recovering from the fall as she ran out to join the others. Hand on her face, where the falling remains of the Night Cycle had left a deep gash and burn, she called to the Hounds, pointing at the cloud. "Midnight's in there! Make sure he doesn't leave the island...alive!" "All right, but first, I'll shatter this cretin who has DARED lay his filthy powers on me!" Screaming her revenge, Blood Diamond fired again: a stream of screaming azure gems, each bearing a human face, erupted from her armor and battered against Cobalt Templar's armor, all without doing so much as a scratch against the mighty Corbin. Her subsequent oaths against his mother, his father, and his genitory organ were something to hear.

"THAT'S...THAT'S CHEATING!" boomed a scandalized Spiegel, the roly-poly little reptile looking genuinely offended that anyone would interfere in his contest. "Never in all my years as an official at the Murder Games have I seen such scandalous behavior! Changeling and friend," he sneered at Wraith, "you are nothing but a pair of interlopers! Your slave gargoyle was one thing, but this is ridiculous. Interlopers will be removed from the arena by force!" He turned and made a gesture at Etain, and suddenly the ground itself seemed to rebel against her. The sandy soil of the beach reared up and grabbed Changeling like a fist, rearing up high and suddenly hurling her through the air with tremendous force towards the ocean hundreds of yards away, where she skipped like a stone against the surface of the water! Sneering, Nightmare Doom spoke a few terrible words and disappeared, returning a few moments later with a battered-looking, whip-less Razorwhip to the main battle on the island. "I warned you we should have killed the others first," she hissed at Spiegel, a look of malice on her ruddy face. "I get Discordia's share of the trophies when we're done, or I'll make sure you pay for this." Spiegel paled at her words beneath his scales, obviously terrified of the monstrous magic user beneath him.

Spiegel goes into action; he'll go at this point (right after Changeling) in the initiative in all subsequent rounds. Everyone, take an HP for the surprise! For the lack of a better idea, here are his stats. He will grab Changeling with his Move Object: 28 which beats her 26 He has Move Object 10, which gives him an effective STR of 50. Changeling weighs 120 lbs. He can throw her around two thousand feet, give or take. He throws her into the ocean out to sea, which is considerably closer (1000 ft). I need a DC 25 Tou save for Changeling hitting the water, and then a DC 10 Swim check. Nightmare Doom: spends the round retrieving a deeply-chagrined Razorwhip. Wraith is up when I post IC.

Discordia frowned a pretty frown and whipped her cannon around, pointing it directly at the still-bound Edge's face. Mark had a moment to be glad she was blasting him and not the helpful gargoyle who was putting his life on the line for him, before the pretty pink monster spat, "Everyone says you're so powerful, Marky, but you look like just another headless corpse to me! Death to the enemies of Omega!" She fired a blast inches from Mark's face and desperately Edge concentrated, the glowing barrel of the gun heating up, the muzzle hot in his face. Think easy think easy think easy... As energy roared towards his face, Edge reached out and transformed it into matter, and a blast of not murderous Terminus energy came out but rather a stream of pure, cold, water! Discordia gasped in shock as a now-soaking wet Mark grinned and said, "Sorry, lady, I like my head where it is." "I'm coming, boss!" yelled Hellstorm from above, and she zoomed down out of the sky to the black cloud that surrounded Midnight and Madrigal, the super-sonic flier whipping quickly around and around to try and dispell the midnight mist. Luckily, the signature weapon of the Hunter family was made of sterner stuff than that. "Ah, dammit!" she yelled, "stupid Midnights! I need some help over here!" she called to the others.

Discordia: Takes a full-round action to coup de grace Edge with her proton stream. Now, I'm not gonna lie, I would rather Mark not be hit by that Blast 15 without his Defensive Roll, even with Ultimate Toughness. So instead, we're going to use a rarely-used section of the rules: Countering! Edge's powers are broad enough that he should be able to do this, IMO. Edge spends an HP for an instant counter (rather than a standard action which he doesn't currently have): I'll say they'll do this array vs. array: Discordia 41 Edge 42 Nice! All right, Edge is unhurt. Hellstorm: Hellstorm sees the midnight mist enveloping her boss and flies back down to be a good sport. (Normally she's not a very good team player, but Madrigal has ways of making her pay.) She goes ahead and takes her standard action trying to blow the mist away as a countering check (since she has Weather Control, I think this is believable). 15 Not a great roll, but. OK, Giz, give me an Obscure power check.

"I...hey, wait, there's gonna be a baby!" Edge's eyes widened as he took that in, and reacted automatically. "That's great! I mean...well, that's great, but holy freaking cow, I can see the problem." He knew vaguely that humans and Serpents could crossbreed, he thought that was where Serpent People came from to begin with. "Listen," he said, thinking fast about social problems and the dangers of family secrets coming out. "the rest of the embassy staff is going to be back here any minute. I'll teleport all the people Ahmed zapped outside so the staff doctor can check them out; hopefully that'll slow them up even further." He went about doing so, popping away the half-conscious mutation victims and leaving the 'real' Serpents behind. For her part, Nina was staring at her elder brother with a mixture of shock and disgust on her lovely face, every inch regal surprise. "You...you did what? You're having what?" "We met, uh, at the Circus Maximus," replied the prince, his voice deep and scratchy as he embraced his bride. "I was there to see the show and, Nephthys was there to..." "...to ensnare men," said Nepthys frankly, "powerful men, on behalf of my people, so that we could sink our coils into them. There are humans who prefer alien women to their own," she added, giving Nina the sort of glare that suggested she'd fit right in in Socotran society. "But Morrie was...he was kind to me, even so, and we...we found something more." "When I learned she was carrying my child, we had to make wedding plans immediately. My honor allowed for nothing less," said the sot prince with unexpected dignity. "Honor allowed for..." Nina rubbed her eyes, and reached down for Mark's hand for support as he returned. "When this...comes out, what do you think Father will do?" she asked her brother rhetorically, for the first time a shadow of fear of Typhoon in her face and voice. "Will he greet his senior grandchild as another member of the family?" "We will face that future together, little Nina, we will-" "What if you just don't go back to Socotra?" asked Mark, getting the attention of would-be bride and groom. "I mean, if Typhoon cuts you off, that's one thing, but he's not going to come after you in Freedom City. That would mean declaring war on Freedom's heroes."

Razorwhip flew up in a high, whirling arc, her curses ringing in the air as she slammed into something in mid-air further down the alien beach, then began to slide down a shimmering surface that seemed to shiver and fracture like broken glass towards the beach below. She landed on her feet, but looked bruised enough from the massive blow that she couldn't do much about that. At her landing, Spiegel broke in, condemnation sharp in his voice as he looked first at Edge's bound form, then at the long-fallen Razorwhip. "That's a technical foul for Razorwhip, and a point to the condemned! But one taken away by the interloper on the field, such a pity." The oily little reptiloid smacked his lips and added, "Remember, interfering in a Murder Game carries a stiff penalty, and I would hate to see our lovely destruction ruined by criminal scum. While our contestants will have a glorious death in Omega's name, there are forges awaiting those who ruin our ancient and glorious traditions!"

Disarmed, bruised, and dazed Electra has informed me Wander wants to inflict knockback. That'll knock her 1000 ft away and into the barrier around the combat arena. 25 That save, she passes, but she does damage the arena! 18 Ouch, so yeah, Razorwhip goes flying 1000 ft, breaks through the invisible dome over everyone, and hits the ground, dazed but still conscious.
