"Pseudo, you've been out in space," said Edge, hands on the glass as he stared unashamedly at the unnameable thing in the deep black sky. "Have you ever seen anything like this before?" Most people didn't know Pseudo was a Grue with decades of experience in space and elsewhere; most people weren't the son of Rick Lucas. "...If you don't know, we need to get a Javelin out there. Maybe in suits." He drummed his fingers on the glass, feeling momentarily unsettled by the sight of so much raw, alien power. It was terribly alien; at the same time it was all terribly familiar.

When Midnight gets close, his Notice is enough for him to see the 'gun' is smouldering-hot, with smoke rising from the barrel already: this is no gun, but an energy construct! (i.e., he has the Disintegrate power with the Subtle PF). What do, Midnight?

A snake monster that had once been a uniformed waiter vaulted over the crowd, one of three left standing after Midnight's subsonic attack had driven the rest to either their knees or the ground, and went straight for Nina al-Darsah, vomiting up a ball of stinking, hissing venom that would have hit her in her lovely face if Mark Lucas hadn't intervened. His suit flashing over into Edge's costume, Mark grabbed Nina by the skirts and yanked her out of the way as the venom flew past her to bury itself in the wall beyond. Another woman might have screamed, but Nina was cursing in Socotran, tearing her tough, heavy outfit apart in her effort to get out of it. "Come on, guys!" Edge yelled to the others, arm around Nina as he took in the chaotic scene. "Maybe there are some hideous snake monsters here, but we're not going to let them ruin the party! This is Freedom City, we deal with awful stuff like this all the time!" Growing more confident now, he raised a hand and said, "First, let's clear the room!" He snapped his fingers and the air seemed to snap, and with a ripple all the helpless civilians in the room were safely deposited on the lawn outside, leaving the heroes alone with the the snake monsters and the royal family, Morakot having put himself between his bride and the snake monsters in the room. Nina can take care of herself...right? "Filthy stinking serpent-spawn," spat the princess, who was in no mood to judge who the creature had once been after its attack on her. "I will rip the scales from your bones and cook you for my soup!" A jet of champagne and coffee hissed up from the table behind her and smashed into the snake monster, blasting it against the far wall with a solid crunch that made the unconscious snakeoid fall to the ground. Snarling in satisfaction, Nina was turning back when another snake monster came dropping down from the ceiling to spit venom at her! She screamed in surprise as the venom splattered against her dress, but fast reflexes sent the poison flying away as she and Mark glared up at the snake-man above her head. Meanwhile, coming up behind Morakot and Nephthys, Meaghan's putative sweetheart was approaching, a pistol in his hand and sinister intent on his face.

"Sorry, lady, I'm a boy of science, not like your boyfriend here," taunted Citizen, floating right into Sylph's attack and out the other side. He focused not on her, but on the leader he'd been addressing, keeping himself between Professor Fathom and the others, especially Papercut with his problems with water! "Listen, I know you guys are all ridiculously old, so much so that you probably flew here in something with transistors with a combustion engine, but if you don't know who I am, you're nuts!" He put his hands on his glowing chest symbol. "I'm Citizen! Miss Americana's sidekick? Helped save your city from alien brain-eating monsters? Living computer program, and not from the computers that are fifty feet tall and made of magnetic tapes? Here, let me show you what I can do!" He threw a wild punch at Professor Fathom, only to have the slippery water monster open up a hole in his own head and let Sharl's magnetically powered punch pass right through his body. "...Okay, maybe I was laying it on a little thick there, but don't they even get the news where you're from? I mean come on."

"Are you all done? Good!" exclaimed Spiegel, looking unruffled by all the heroic preparation going on around him. As Mark reached up to take Corbin's hand, the red sky overhead turned black as fast as if a switch had been flicked. Clouds spilled out of nothing, lit through by flaring black lights that had to be lightning somehow cast into the ultraviolet. When Spiegel spoke again, it was in a voice like thunder, echoing in the ears of the heroes of Young Freedom, his toothy jaw opening wide as he boomed, "Ladies and gentlebeings of the Terminus, six ladies who NEED NO INTRODUCTION, let me present to you...MADRIGAL'S HOUNDS!!" "BLOOD DIAMOND!" A bolt of black lightning cracked from the rotting sky overhead, sparking against a pillar right next to the flying Cobalt Templar, the sheer power of the bolt disgorging a alien figure Corbin had never seen before. She was tall and pale, her lithe body covered in a sheen of reddish-tinted gemstones that glittered in the light from his ring, glittered with the frozen, screaming faces of human beings! Blood Diamond gave Corbin a look to freeze the soul and said in a voice like poisoned honey, "Your doom is here." "NIGHTMARE DOOM AND DISCORDIA!" Another bolt struck the Earth near Edge, disgorging two sinister figures, one in wine-dark robes the color of poisoned blood, only her hands and too-wide eye, another in pale pink like viscera, her dress stained with blood, a look of murder and laughter in her eyes. The first spoke with cold and calm assurance as she stared into the depths of Edge's soul. "Your doom is here," a moment before her sister in darkness exclaimed with a look of utter delight, pulling out from behind her a massive black weapon that could only have come from the forges of Steelgrave, laughing maniacally, "Your dooooom is here!" "OMNIBEAST AND RAZORWHIP!" Wander hit the ground rolling near the scrub forest at the edge of the beach and soon realized she wasn't alone; rising from the shelter of the forest was a woman in black and red, long, wickedly-curved claws growing from her wrists, leathery bat wings rising from behind her; and alongside her was another figure evidently more suitable to these rural climates, a smirking woman in red, a brown helmet on her head and in her hands a long, deadly looking razor whip that cut through the thick branches around her with just a flick of the wrist. The first woman didn't speak, simply growling as she approached, face half-hidden by her wild mane of hair, but the second smirked and said in an all-too-human accent, "Y'all are doomed, honey." "HELLSTORM!" Lightning crashed in the skies near Sage, and she found herself within feet of another flier; the source of all the atmospheric disturbances from the lightning cracking around her hands, a look of almost childish glee on her face as she danced in the air around her in an impossibly fast blur, her blue costume dotted with what Redbird had described as the multi-colored collection of the heroes she'd slain in her long career. "Your doom is here, slowpoke!" she yelled cheerfully. "And in a rare public appearance, one night only, THE MADRIGAL MARTINET!" A bolt of lightning crashed into the sky inches from where Trevor flew, and he found himself with company on Redbird, a cold-eyed beauty whose long raven hair flowed out of her golden helmet, its open eye slits revealing her sparkling blue eyes. Six foot tall and more, grapples in her hand latched onto the bike, and the Madrigal Martinet smiled at Midnight as she raised a weapon of all-too-familiar cast: a copy of the gun that had shattered Omega. "Hello, Travis. Your. Doom. Is. Here."

"Oh jeez, it's these clowns." Gina had taught Sharl all about some of the more colorful science villains of Freedom City, and the Factor Four, decades-old mutants who had tried to blend 'magic' and science and had turned themselves into a salutary lesson for scientists everywhere, had been among the most prominent in those lessons. Stupid and powerful. Just like most supervillains. With no secret identity to protect, Sharl covered for the others, trusting on his nigh-invulnerable nature and fast reflexes to protect him as he flew up to confront the four supervillains face-to-face. He knew the pyrokinetic could actually hurt him, and there wasn't much he could do to bother either the rock-man or the gas girl, so instead he confronted the leader of the Factor Four face-to-face. Just like Miss Americana would do...gulp! "All right, all right, I'm all alone here and there are four of you, I'm not stupid. Hey, I'm Citizen, by the way, you must be the famous Professor Fathom." He stuck a hand out to the watery villain, glad the emitter he'd left down at floor level was insulated. "Listen, the museum obviously doesn't put working artifacts out in public display, all that would do is attract thieves and that's the last thing they want with all these civilians, right? Anyway, the real Bauble is down in the basement: let's go down and get it and maybe you can be gone quick before Young Freedom shows up here. They're pretty tough, and you've got to be tired of fighting generation after generation of teenagers, right? Right." he said expectantly.

Do you need a roll from me to catch D-Gray, TT?
-
Citizen was torn between obeying Miss Americana's orders and coming to her aid. He'd fought the Foundry too, and even with Rogue in prison, he knew them as terrifying opponents who were among the very few people on Earth who could fight him on his own turf. But he picked trusting Miss A over his urge to rush to her defense; she knew what she was doing, and in any event Gina would want him to rescue the helpless civilian? program? over her. He dived into the system after D-Gray, chest symbol flaring to life in brilliant blue, and reached for the wildly tumbling man like Phalanx or Captain Thunder trying to catch a rooftop jumper. "D-Gray! My name is Citizen, I'm a superhero!" he called. "Try and stay calm! We're going to try and pull you out of here, but you've got to trust me!"

Once outside the arrival chamber, followed shortly thereafter by Edge, Archeville found himself in a darkened metal hallway where a faint odor of decay had long since settled in. Lit only by glowing red emergency lights, some of them now faded by time, these corridors looked to have been abandoned for quite some time. "Well, this is unpleasant..." Edge glanced back into the arrival chamber, where Nina was once again distracting the dragon with animated conversation about the filthy beasts who must have laid hands on such a reptilian prince as himself here. "I think we're better off keeping Fafnir from exploring too closely here," Edge suggested to Dok in a low whisper. "If there's something here that might trigger the wrong kind of memory, or some kind of fail-safe..."

Something interrupted Victory, but it wasn't the kids: triple sonic booms sounded overhead, one after the other, so loud that windows vibrated in their frames and the kids screamed involuntarily as the sounds of explosions rocked the base! Steve was briefly torn between his charges and whatever disaster lay above their heads just before a sailor threw open the door to shout, "Sir! Three unknown metahuman hostiles have just engaged our perimeter at hypersonic speeds! Radar Towers Two and Three are down, and they're coming around for another pass!" "Go," said Steve after a few moments, giving his friend a serious look. "I can handle the fallen structures, but I'm not fast enough to catch someone as fast as you are in the sky. We may not have much time for talk!" To his students, he said, "Stay here, and be watchful. Victory and I are old allies; we can handle this trio and return to your side safely. We've all dealt with our base coming under attack before and survived. It'll be all right."

"Mr. LaMarr, I need you," said Vice-Principal Laura Jennifer, appearing at LaMarr's flank and pulling him away from his conversation with his old enemy. The former Marine had risen from the ranks of the school's perpetually embattled art department, perhaps because she'd never quite stopped seeing her work as an extension of war. "Miss Americana and her students are arriving, and I'd like you as part of the welcoming committee. You are our most famous staff member." --- There wasn't really a point to Citizen strapping in, so instead he fixed his emitter to the dashboard as the gravcar took off. "The gravcar uses a variant of Lor technology," he told Glow, "powering a mass-nullifier off a terrestrial electric motor." Miss A could have said it better, and maybe a little more accurately, but Sharl wasn't above showing off a little for the Australian girl. "If there weren't so many restrictions on alien technology, Miss A could be making these for every car in Freedom City." The flight to Joseph Clark was easy enough, the famously efficient and fast-thinking Freedom City air traffic control easily handling a flying car heading through the skies of Freedom City. Sharl was lost for a few moments in thoughts of home, remembering family trips in vehicles not too dissimilar from this, and only really started paying attention after Miss A had set the car down inside the school's open courtyard. "Miss Americana, I'm so glad you could make it!" said the Vice-Principal as she greeted them with what looked like a rare smile on her lined face. "And your students as well. From students to faculty, everyone here at Joseph Clark been looking forward to your visit. This is my colleague, Keith LaMarr." "Now, how did you want to do this? Announce yourself, or should I do that for you?"
