  1. Take an HP, TT. That'll be a DC 27 Tou save, assuming no one interposes for you.
  2. Battered by the assaults from the surprisingly powerful monkeys, the radioactive T-Rex redoubled his efforts. Rearing his head back and issuing a terrific gout of radioactive flame, the Kaiju roared "<FOOLS! YOUR CHILDREN WILL BE THE FOOD FOR MY HATCHLINGS AND YOUR CITIES THE NESTS THAT SHALL SPAWN MY EMPIRE ACROSS THE MULTIVERSE! I AM THE KAIJU AND I WILL NOT BE DENIED!>" The Kaiju evidently loved his ranting and raving; luckily that meant the civilians (no fools) had had time to get away from the insane radioactive Nazi T-Rex. Of course, that also meant there was nothing between him and the heroes. "<I WILL BURN YOU WITH THE POWER OF A MILLION FLAMING ATOMS!>" Scientifically improbable though the threat was, he did his best to make good his boast, exhaling a gigantic blast of nuclear heat right at Cannonade!

For those of you missed the original version: Freddie Fawcett debuted in 1940 with the power to transform into the mighty Captain Wonder. The native hero of Memphis, TN, he was empowered by a coterie of Egyptian gods so that when he spoke their magic word he was transformed into a flying brick like no other. One of the earliest superheroes, he fought alongside the Liberty League for many years before finally revealing his secret ID to them in 1950. When they did the math and realized he was 18, they were suitably appalled at the child they'd been fighting alongside. (Luckily the Wisdom of Imhotep had shielded him from the horrors of the war in which he was fighting). Fawcett retired in the early 1950s to settle down and raise a family, and between one thing and another didn't get back into the superheroing business until the turn of the new millennium. Where once he was a boy who transformed, now he's a very old man, his mortal body having very much aged. But he has some years in him yet, and in the meantime he's determined to fight for the better world he once left behind. He's a straightforward flying brick who flies up to his enemies and punches them really, really hard. He'll use his Flight to gain a way to feint against enemies, then Power Attack even the strongest foes right through a brick wall. I think this build works for an old man given power, his combat skills have rusted somewhat since his youth, but his tremendous power is unabated. (You could also do this for his kids and grandkids, specifying that they've recently inherited his great power as part of the Wonder family) The Shockwave above represents him saying his magic word and dodging the subsequent flash of Ra's Light to use as a weapon: making it an area effect means he can hurt those alien paragons at his PL whose Impervious doesn't block magic, but it also makes a viable weapon against squishier types. Captain Marvel-types are naturals for the Normal ID drawback. You could also give him Involuntary Transformation connected to being hit by powers of the light descriptor. Or both, if you need the points! His Affects Insubstantial mean he can punch most magic things in the face, which is cool. Playing an old man with conservative values can be fun, assuming you're up to the challenge. There's something to be said for playing an old person who actually acts like an old person. (i.e., the majority of people active in the WWII generation were not pansexual beauties with no hangups) Our own Wail is a good example of a current PC that convincingly plays an older character. This doesn't mean he'd not get along with young heroes (after all, he remembers being young and carefree), just that they'll have some culture clashes. If I had kept playing this character, I would definitely have bought into the T-Baby plot that some of our PCs have been working. There's no reason he'd embrace the people empowered by what killed the Centurion, and with his tremendous prestige as a WWII veteran, this could be a problem...
  4. Bruised (I'll fiat he avoided the stun)
  5. Wander's powerful blow sent the giant dinosaur reeling back, but didn't seem to stun him. This monster was going to need a serious pounding to go down! Nearby, the velociraptors charged into action: with the males leaping and diving, scoring their claws against the T-Rex's flesh to madden him, Runs-With-Claws made her leap, just missing the Kaiju's throat with her outstretched talons, and landed with a hiss of frustration at Wander's side. Giving a cordial nod to her fellow hunter, she spat loud enough for the others to hear, "<He's not bluffing! The Kaiju will eat your leaders and void his bowels on your gods if he is not stopped!>"
  6. Graduation Day: The Claremont Class of 2011 "I can't believe we're finally graduating!" s/fx of screaming and explosions as a wall of black fire erupts across the city "Everything I've done has been leading up to this moment. But if you still don't trust me, I know someone you will." A giant robotic tank emblazoned with a swastika rumbles across a burnt-out cityscape "It's not about today and it's not about tomorrow. It's about the world we leave behind for our children and grandchilden." A hi-tech cityscape whizzes by underneath with WELCOME TO FREEDOM CITY! on the side of a passing hovercar "Mom? Mark!?" A too-perfect city towers overhead, the people smiling with delight as they greet each other "This world will burn like the lie it is!!!" A city covered in the bones of millions, inhabited only by the worse-than-dead "At last I am free to 'smite' the world as I did in days long past!" "We have to stop him. Nothing else matters. Let's go." One of those fast whirly montage things plays over the faces of everyone on Young Freedom "THIS IS IT!" Really big explosion! Coming next week: Graduation Day! An FcPbP summer event.
  7. Vs: Five of the six use Aid actions to give Runs-With-Claws +10 on her defense bonus vs. Kaiju She attacks: 24 That hits: 24 As soon as I get an IC post up, Wail is up.
  8. Oof! Well, since I don't want him down right away, I'll Fiat and say he takes a bruise. Take another HP, Wander!
  9. The velociraptors go on 20 The Kaiju goes on 14 Wander=27 Vs=20 Wail=14 Kaiju=14 Cannonade=12 Willow=5
  10. At Wander's words, suddenly there came a great rumbling beneath everyone's feet and panicked screams outside. The metal wristbands worn by Runs-With-Claws and Bloodfang both began beeping frantically, and all the raptors began hissing and spitting in alarm. "He has escaped! The Kaiju has escaped! Quickly, outside!" Without stopping to see what the not-people did, the raptors ran right out the door, vaulting right over any heroes too slow to get out of the way. Outside, as the slower-footed humans joined them, they all gazed at a terrifying scene: the street in front of the church was _glowing_ a terrible sickly green, the people outside having pushed and pulled apart to give it a wide berth. Suddenly, from beneath the surface, a gigantic reptilian head erupted, followed by a body bigger than a house: if these smaller dinosaurs were raptors, this was nothing less than a Tyrannosaurus Rex, red and staring of eye, fangs as long as a man's arm as it pulled its gigantic bulk to the surface to blink against the sunlight. The two differences visible, though, were as follows: no natural T-Rex breathed the green, sickly flame that pooled like smoke around this giant monster's nostrils. Secondly, most dinosaurs did not wear Nazi uniforms, the clearly defined uniform of the Third Reich on the body of a radioactive T-Rex! "<Kaiju!>" called Runs-With-Claws imperiously as her dinosaurs drew up alongside her, all of them spitting and glaring at the T-Rex and ignoring the humans for now. "<Do not think you can hide in this world of not-people! The Empire will hunt you down and devour your intestines wherever you run!>" "<FOOL!>" roared the Nazi T-Rex, "<YOU THINK ME BOUND BY YOUR PUNY LAWS? I AM KAIJU, THE UBER-DINOSAUR! AND I SHALL MAKE MYSELF KING OF THIS WORLD, AND THEN EMPEROR OF THE OTHERS! YOUR LAWS WILL BE TRAMPLED BENEATH MY FEET EVEN AS I TRAMPLE THESE MONKEYS!>" And with that, he turned and charged the civilians!
  11. You can make this work, SC. Good luck!
  12. Give me Notice checks, folks. Your DC is 25.

One major change I made is to dial down her Petrification power (the Transform repped above) so that it's no longer a Reaction the way it is on my own Gazer-Beam build. Instead she has to be aware and concentrating while looking at her enemies in order to bring them down, and it's a standard action to use her power. The duration is also Sustained rather than Continous, so targets of her power keep getting saves and can almost certainly get out if she stops actively maintaining the power. (You want to make it worse? Power-stunt, natch) That makes her less threatening, true, but it also means she can get around in society without having to wear a veil or something. Though OTOH she may have to do that anyway, given that she is a snake woman with snakes for hair! Still, it's an improvement. My vague idea here is that this is a descendant of the gorgon of legend (not The Gorgon of upthread), perhaps a native of the Olympian lands after they closed off after the Olympians withdrew from the Material Plane. Another idea is that she might be the product of sophisticated Labyrinth DNAscent. Perhaps it pleases Taurus the Minotaur to recreate the monsters he knew in his youth as his pawns and vassals, either out of a grim sense of humor or maybe just out of some lingering nostalgia? After all, in the Hadean world he hopes to make on Earth, all his old friends will return; why not give them brothers and sisters to greet them when they arrive? Look at the works of Charlie Stross (tell him Chet Arthur sent you!) for ideas on how to justify a scientific method of petrification. As a backup to her snakes, she's a low-grade powerhouse who can just pummel you into submission if she doesn't want you to get stoned. (Can she grapple someone and pin their eyes open? Maybe with surging...) The Infravision and Radius Sight come from the snake hair; feel free to have a complication that those senses don't work when she's wearing a hat. I figure the Concealment is a result of being cold-blooded; Infravision comes up more often than you'd think! Even if it doesn't help you much against supers (who will probably have more than one super-sense), it'll make life much easier vs. goons using nightvision goggles and other heat-sensing powers. After all, you're a little too snakey for that...
  14. 15. When the wolf showed his true colors, Freedom Angel's wings snapped around him like a cloak against the icy chill of Winter personified. Foul beast!, he thought, saving his words for the next time he and the great wolf fought. I had hoped his pride greater than his wickedness, but such is the way of things with those tainted by the Adversary. With a shower of ice, he snapped his wings open again, having fearlessly stood against the chill. Sizing up the situation, he took action quickly. Raising his voice, he shouted with a voice like the trumpets of Heaven, his voice resounding through the air to reach every ear: "All of you! Exit your buildings in a calm and orderly fashion! The heroes guard you now, but cannot do so for long!" Illustrating the errors of the godling by his side, healing her grim but not-lethal wounds, calling Dr. Metropolis to repair the damage: all that could wait until human life was protected.
  16. "<We have no experience with your people,>" said the velociraptor commander. "<I am sure,>" she added with what was probably supposed to be diplomatic language, "<that you are very unlike the monkeys and apes with which we were familiar.>" At the discussion of their legal practices, Runs-With-Claws gave a short bark that turned out to be a laugh. "<You are mistaken, not-people youngling. For his crimes against science and nature, the Kaiju is to be the hunted. The families of those whose bodies he warped and minds he destroyed are waiting in the great colosseum of the Nestworld to deliver final justice to him in the fashion of the People. That is why he must be guarded.>" She clacked her claws on the ground for emphasis and added curiously, "<Why, what do you do with mad scientists?>"
  17. Bloodfang cradled her face in her frontclaw, nicitiating membranes flicking in a gesture that suddenly seemed strangely familiar. "<Nestmother's addled egg, even the plants talk here! What fresh hell is this!?!>" Runs-With-Claws butted her in the flank with her massive head and growled irritably in reply. "<Don't curse like that! What would your grandmother say?>" And with that, as the last of the parishoners filed out, she focused on Willow. "<Yes, we are...>" She licked her lips. "<...intimately aware of just how little we belong here. We will endeavor to repair the damage the Kaiju did to our ship and depart.>"

Plant Mimicry is a twin of Animal Mimicry, but with a plant theme rather than an animal. What's the difference between the two? In my mind someone who has plant powers should have some planty traits all the time, so I gave her some Regen, some Immunities, and even some plant-detecting Super-Senses. Plant Mimicry is really, really broad, as I've tried to show with some the sample allocations abroad: thorns, poison sumac, and a dozen other things can all be believable powers. In the sample sheet above, I've tried to give her everything from plant-based toxins to the strength and durability of a mighty oak. She meet her caps even without the power, of course, I figure she has a plant's strength and toughness (well, a strong and tough plant!) even when she's not directly using her powers. I could see Concealment working well too, given how well some plants can blend into their surroundings. Remember that the overall appearance of Mimics generally doesn't change, but without Subtle there will certainly be cosmetic changes: perhaps long thorny arms for Elongation and a Drain? She's knowledgeable in science terms, but not a science specialist. Someone with powers like this should be able to function competently in their own technical niche, even if they don't know as much about it as the super-scientific specialists or ridiculous geniuses. Even if you want to give her a magic origin, she should still have _some_ scientific training, unless you want to make her a hardcore druid/dryad type. (If that's the case, you should buy up her Survival) Even if she does the usual "Here's where your science is WRONG because it has no HEART" New Age stuff, she should still have a decent idea of what kinds of plants are good to eat and what biochemical effects they have on the body. My half-imagined backstory is the usual "grad student victim of a bizarre accident!", where an injection with an experimental plant serum gave her a primal connection to the natural world, or at least the plant side of it. It's the Green it's the green it's the green you neeeed, as the song says. As I've mentioned in the past, contrary to what you might think this character doesn't have to be a hippie type: while that's a funny stereotype for plant controllers, plants themselves aren't vegetarians. They aren't pacifists, they aren't anything. They survive, they feed, they grow, they perpetuate their species. That's it. In a comic book setting, 'plant instincts' can potentially be as threatening as animal instincts, and all the more alien for not being what you expect...
  19. Citizen sobered a little at Magnus' arrival, conscious that the man probably wouldn't want a lot of smiles around when he was seriously worried about his niece. Instead he was a close and solicitous ally of Miss Americana, helping supervise the loading of the last of their stuff into the airplane, then helping Dragonfly double-check her lists as well. He still flittered around and had a good time, but tried to be serious around the guy who had very serious reasons to be there. After all, this wasn't just an adventure for Magnus and his family; this was somebody's life.
  20. Runs-With-Claws flinched and reflexively ducked her head, obviously impressed at the authority in Wail's words. While her reply wasn't exactly helpful, it was the first time one of the dinosaurs has spoken to the humans as an equal. "<Stand down, team. The last thing we need is a fight with the locals.>" She bounced back and forth on her long back legs for a moment before coming to a decision. "<Let them leave!>" she called to the ones at the door, the males blocking the exits moving away with unhappy hissing and snapping. "<We hold no prisoners that aren't ours. We'll live on the rations in the ship if we have to.>" As the dinosaurs by the door got out of the way, the people in the church started to clear out as hastily as they could without provoking a hunt. "<The ship is inside three feet of concrete!>" spat an angry Bloodfang, turning her back on the heroes by the door as she stalked towards her putative leader. "<You want us to go down there in the dark and rad-scent every time we hunger? Down there with HIM?>" The males by Runs-With-Claws, who had been cowering from Wander, snapped and hissed at the smaller female as she approached. Ignoring her willful subordinate for the moment, Runs-With-Claws added to Wail, "<I...appreciate your words, not-people, but I cannot leave my prisoner. It is my duty to escort him to his Last Hunt, and I cannot abandon that. Even under threat of force.>"
  21. "SOME BURNED. SOME WERE POISONED. SOME STARVED." The angel of death gave Nick a look terrible in its matter-of-factness. "MY PORTFOLIO IS NOT THE MOVEMENTS OF ARMIES AND THE FATE OF NATIONS, BUT OF THE PASSING OF THE HUMBLEST BABE AND ELDEST KING, AND ALL THAT LIE IN BETWEEN. A LIST OF ONE BILLION SIX HUNDRED AND FIFTY THOUSAND DEATHS WOULD NOT ANSWER THE QUESTION. NOR MAKE OUR DINNER ANY MORE PALATABLE. I LIKE WHAT YOU'VE DONE WITH THE ARUGULA HERE," he commented to Fleur. "He's a great cook," commented Jeanne, "whenever I came home to my little cherub," she said, pinching Heyzel's cheek, "I always knew Azrael had prepared something. If he wasn't working so much all the time, I'd say he should teach." "Don't sell teaching art short," said Heyzel to Nick. "People have been painting on cave walls since before Adam and Eve. It's basic to the human condition, and if you can expand their portfolio, you can expand their condition. I don't know of anyone like that in our schools," he admitted to Fleur, "but I can look. Some of them may feel the urge to spread their particular belief system, but most of them are interested enough in the idea of pedagogy and spreading the word of knowledge and truth that it shouldn't be a serious concern."
  22. Reflex: 16 Ouch! Fort: 13 Imma reroll that one! HP...24 Much better.
  23. They fail that one as well, and are suitably put off.
