This guy right here! The Wealthy Thrillseeker is what Bruce Wayne would be if he lightened up and maybe got a girlfriend or two who didn't die off at the end of the issue, or what Tony Stark would be like if he was a master inventor of new kinds of vodka martinies. He's a stable, well-adjusted person who's into extreme sports, wild adventure, and being a superhero! Johnny Storm without powers is another good model for you. He's confident, powerful, and knows full well that he's most awesome guy in town. Adjust things like skills and languages as necessary; I figure he learned Nepali and Spanish while extreme climbing in the Himalayas and Andes Mountains. As you might expect from the above description, the Thrillseeker can be annoying to working-class heroes, especially since he has no idea how his gear works and gets it all from money. In this build it's a flying snowboarding suit, but you can rework that however you want. He's media-savvy, so his build probably follows some kind of theme. Note that he's smarter than he looks. He's actually a pretty savvy businessman, as well as a keen player of social networks. Maybe he doesn't know how the lab guys do their thing, but he's a dangerous opponent in the board room or the cocktail party. I didn't put in Attractive: this guy should be likable (or not) even if you're not into his snowbunny ways. Does he have a secret ID? He really could go either way on that: he could be proud of his public image as a hero, or maybe trying to do good in secret for the sake of his own conscience while hiding in plain sight. For a story-telling hook, maybe this is the kid of your local Tony Stark, using the gear made by a parent having inherited their company, trying to live up to the impossible image of an absent parent. Or the kid of the local Lex Luthor, who has no idea where Dad gets all this money! This is sometimes a tough archetype to make sympathetic, but I think it can be made to work. It's ultimately a story about discovering responsibility and about making yourself a better person than you once were. That's very much a heroic story, at least in my mind. Remember, you're discovering the joys of making a life for yourself that really matters, one that's bigger and better than the empty world of parties and charity events that you used to live in. (That said, there's nothing saying you can't still enjoy those things! This archetype should be anything but dour.) Possible Character Names: Black Diamond, Racer-X, Daredevil Freedom City Story Hooks People You Might Know: [*:2qv4yfa1]Henry Allard, media mogul, richest man in Freedom City and by all accounts nice guy. [*:2qv4yfa1]Angela Beaudrie, matriarch of the powerful Beaudrie clan and high society lady extraordinaire. [*:2qv4yfa1]Jonathan Grant, head of high-tech holding company Grant Conglomerates and mad scientist. [*:2qv4yfa1]Callie Summers, party-girl heir to the Summers old-money fortune and legendary vigilante and heroine Raven II [*:2qv4yfa1]Constantine Urallos, head of international holding company Delphic Industries and Hades cultist Businesses You Might Own Shares Of: [*:2qv4yfa1]Atlantis Casino: Not affiliated with or authorized by the Kingdom of Atlantis [*:2qv4yfa1]DeCosta Construction: Not every Italian-American construction company in New Jersey is mobbed up! Across the room, Medea gave Midnight a mutinous look, but stopped taunting him. She wasn't very happy, naturally, but he'd evidently done the work of shutting her up. "Look, Midnight," she said, glancing down at Stratos, "we're all in this together, right? We don't need to fight when you've got the Omega-Centurion there trying to break down the doors and let in the Destroyer. So why don't you just let Sebastian and I go one way, and you can get on with the business of saving the world? That's what a hero would do, right?"
-
Midnight is up

vs. Attack 1 23...wow. I'll just Fiat that, I think. That's a 36 with the Fiat (which is effectively an HP), so he's bruised. vs. Attack 2 OK, he fails by 10, so I'll fiat again...(wow!) Hokay So he's bruisedx2 and stunned, with double fiats that net 2 HP for Wander. Nice.

Mark spends his Leadership complication HP to Inspire everyone with +5. Wander is up.

The Cyber-Centurion caught Phalanx's fist as a sound like cracking metal burst through the room, looking at him with murder gleaming in his cybernetic eye. "You stupid child," he said, fury in that all-too-familiar voice. "You and yours could have been at my right hand most of all!" Despite his best efforts, he wasn't able to keep a grip on Phalanx, but that didn't seem to phase him. "Your whole League had to trick me into the Zero Zone to stop me before! I am tired of weak, puling subterfuge. I am the Alpha of Omega, and you children will be the first of this world's heroes to die! But you won't be the last!" "Nononono...." Mark pulled himself together through sheer force of will, his eyes darkening as he stared at the monstrous perversion of everything he, his family, and every hero of Freedom City had ever fought to defend. "This isn't right. You don't belong here." Did the shadows at the edge of the brightly lit corridor grow especially black and inky for a second? "Young Freedom! Do this for every hero in Freedom City! Do it for you, for me, for everyone! This is for the real Centurion, and everything he taught us! Like how to take out the trash!"
-
He rolled a nat-20! Mark spends his last non-complication HP... and he gets a 37 Aw snap! Mark is up

Dead Men Do Tell Tales (IC)
Avenger Assembled replied to Avenger Assembled's topic in The Theatre District
When Dead Head reached Sister Sixtus, she looked him in the eye without flinching. Indeed, upon closer inspection, he realized she looked...hungry. "I knew you'd come to me, my angel of the night." Before he could react, she leaned forward on her staff, grabbed him by the back of the head with one hand, and pulled him in for a long hungry kiss! Her tongue was soft and wet and living as it invaded his mouth, her body smelling of death over expensive perfume. She held it for a long, horrible moment of living flesh on dead. "Come," she said, pulling back as she gestured to the crowd, "join us in worship." -
In a flare of gentle light, they were at the door to Gabriel's apartment, though not inside. "I didn't think it proper to take myself inside your home," said the angel gently. "You're on a better path than you were before. It's your choice to decide if you walk down it." As they said their final words, and the angel departed, again he remembered among the last things he'd heard from Gavriel. Gavriel had told him that aid in his mission on Earth would be impossible given the Pact, that such assistance would only come "If Creation faces the risk of total annihilation." It was a good thing the angel didn't sleep.

Lights at his back, Stars in His Eyes (IC) (OPEN)
Avenger Assembled replied to JohnStargazer's topic in Bayview
Mark happily gave John a rundown as they went. "Yeah, two guys to a room, ten rooms on a floor. We've got coed buildings but no coed floors, to put a stop to sneaking around. Plus the girl's RA in our building sometimes scans the floors astrally and gives you a talking-to if she catches you sneaking into her floors. My, uh, Zarana, the girl I hang out with, lives off-campus, so I haven't seen her much this summer. You might have it easier, though. But yeah, and we've got free wi-fi on campus and in all the rooms, and a nice common room with a Playstation 3...it's pretty tight." -
"That's certainly good to hear. Claremont's had a few graduates turn to crime, and a few dropouts, but we've got a really solid record." Mark looked around and leaned close to whisper, "At prom this summer, one of our students went crazy and tried to run me and my friends over after one of my teammates slept with his girlfriend. I'd never seen anyone make a face heel turn right in front of me like that before." It was, as the others were beginning to realize, a little hard to tell how serious Mark was: most people didn't use comic book terms to talk about things that happened in their real life! But Mark was a special case. "Does your dad know you're a student here?"
-
Fusion did manage to find the license plate, picking through the rubble with her tentacles like long sinuous fingers, but couldn't pick up anything else from the debris. "I suppose we'd better get moving, then." She studied the ice-wielding Russian carefully, her narrowed eyes visible as great white silhouettes through her costume's confinement. "Why would anyone want to kill you, anyway? And do it right in front of my office?" She hmmed, and went on, "Come to think of it, that might have hit both of us from the angle it came at."
-
Yeah, he's flat-footed all right. And just in time, Phalanx is up!
-
Thank you, Geez, I appreciate that opportunity. Instead of surging, I'll use extra effort to increase the power's damage rank by +2: that'll make it a DC 24 Reflex/29 Toughness save. If they have Impervious 14, well.
-
Avenger's eyes widened, but the rest of his face didn't change. "Neither of those are areas I control directly," he said, his voice oddly free of human affect. "But I'll certainly speak to the vampires who do about their involvement in the matter. And you say you lost track of them after they left the area?" he asked, heat creeping back in his words. "Did you think to call in any of the city's experts on magical threats? There are legions of them, you know: can't throw a rock in this city without hitting magic. The Midnighters, even?"
-
Jack steepled his fingers, giving the necromancer a level look. "Why, what you have you heard?" he asked, his voice sharp though not unfriendly. How many monsters were going to try and take this city from him, anyway? "If you're asking about my personal knowledge, I've made the acquaintance of certain of my Scandinavian relatives in the past. They're an unpleasant group of customers, much closer to the primal nature of the undead than others of our kind. Bring a sharp ax, and lots of fire, and you'll have a chance at defeating them."
-
That's a miss. We'll use the same initiative, so Geckoman is up.
-
What the heck, I'll move things along. We'll be in initiative once this is resolved. A 22, with the Fiat. Mark is flat-footed thanks to having no Sense Motive, but I'll say everyone else is OK.
-
"When my friends in the Freedom League left me to rest in the Zero Zone, my body was found by a friendly civilization of cyberkineticists. They repaired my damaged remains with their technology, making me better, faster, and stronger than I was before." The Centurion smiled beneficently at Chris and Mark, the two nearest boys. "But now with your help, I can return to the world outside and make everything better again. All will be well." "Liar." A bleeding, battered Superior opened his eyes to glare up at the cybernetic Centurion. "You came from space. Tore the world in half and took it for your own! Tens of thousand dying screaming at your hands as you took their knowledge in the name of your dark lord!" "The world you'd conquered?" replied the Centurion evenly. "The world that you'd made a petty kingdom of your own? Is THAT the place you're mourning, Kal-Zed?" His voice was cold and hot all at once, a decidedly unsettling tone to hear from the Centurion. "You can't fool these children with their lies! They're clever! They can see right through you to the monster within! Perhaps it was YOU all along who fought for Omega!" Mark stared at the cybernetic Centurion for a long moment. Visions of the past, present, and future all came together as he pronounced a sentence. "The Centurion wasn't buried in the Zero Zone." He locked eyes with the other Centurion for a minute and added, "And he doesn't talk like a bad guy, either. And...and my dad was there when they found his body! He isn't coming back! He's never coming back!" And then the cybernetic Centurion pulled back a fist and threw it at Mark's face.
-
More than ten lies!

The truck shrieked to a stop, Fusion's quick tentacle-jostling enough to make it freeze to a stop off the road in an unfortunate construction ditch (though luckily empty) rather than actually blocking the traffic. Fusion bent over the broken remains of the robot, sorting over it with a disconsolate look visible on her masked face. "Well, I botched that one," she said out loud, glancing up at Lady Winter. "Do you know anything about robots? Or do we need to trace through the truck? I know a guy at the DMV..."

26 on Arcane Lore
-
"Dracula was here," replied the vampire, something like a smile at the corners of his mouth. "That was quite a night, let me tell you. But after his defeat, I think I sufficiently overawed the other elders that they sought out a better place to seize power. Despite the advantages that can be gained from the proximity of the superpowered to this city, it's too dangerous for most elders. After all, it's full of petty godlings immune to their powers, who can rip them limb from limb in hand to hand combat and earn the screams of the crowd for it." He politely refused the brandy, saying, "Thank you, I never drink alcohol. As for the current power structure, things are...divided," he allowed. "A small contingent remains loyal to me and the humanist values I represent. Others have picked a different path."
-
Good, because if you were... Jack wouldn't have killed Eric for that, but there were only so many ways an extra-legal community like vampires could deal with an enemy without legal force. It was all for the best that they hadn't been forced into a confrontation. "I'm relieved to hear that, Eric. This city's encounters with necromancers in the past have been unpleasant ones. I assisted in the destruction of several cults myself. As long as you stay out of our way, and leave the policing of our community to me, we'll be fine." He studied the man for a moment, then said, "I am Jack Faretti. My friends call me Avenger."
