  1. Hey Darius, is there backstory here between your character and Claremont Academy that I'm unaware of? Because this is supposed to be a routine conversation between two adults (with a student involved) about the mentoring program one of them runs and that the other one of them volunteered for.
  2. Summers didn't so much as blink when Fulcrum struck his desk, though that eyebrow did creep up a little higher. "Wander is a very powerful young woman who is in the process of learning to control her temper. Since my desk is," he reached out and tested the spot where Fulcrum had struck it, "still intact, evidently you're the right hero for the job. What Wander really needs is someone who will supervise and guide her in real-world situations where our teachers cannot take her and her fellow students would not be able to help her cope. As it stands, her self-control may prevent her from being the hero she could otherwise become.” Summers gave Wander a meaningful look. “And while it's true that the first mentoring assignment didn't work out, I believe this one has a great deal of promise.”
  3. Avenger debated the relative merits of letting his wife get drinks (and making her look like a servant) versus leaving Taylor and Anya alone together while he stepped into the other room. Deciding to remind Anya of her role, he said "Actually, Anya, why don't you do that for us? There's a thermos on the left side of the refrigerator. Fill up the black cups by the microwave halfway, then nuke them at the same time for three minutes." When Anya went to do that, he focused on Taylor and murmured, "Look, what else was I supposed to do? She's even got a costume."
  4. Summers raised an eyebrow. "If Wander is unsatisfactory to you, Fulcrum, perhaps you should consider channeling your pedagogical desires more productively. As for Wander, she's here of her own free will, just as much as you are. I would encourage both of you to carefully consider why you're here, and what advantages you can gain from a productive relationship."
  5. Summers raised an eyebrow at Erin before adding, "In addition to being strong enough to lift our school jet over her head, Wander is the most skilled combatant at our school," he added for her. "As well as one of the most experienced. It's a difficult responsibility to work with such a veteran student, Fulcrum, but I've been assured that you have much to teach her. Why don't the two of you take some time to spar together and get better acquainted?"
  6. Marionette took Dynamo in her arms without hesitation, planting a long, slow, soulful kiss on him. When she was done, she stepped back, giving Jaci room to swing. "Darling, you and I are going to do such things," she said with a low, throaty laugh, her voice like chocolate. Blinking, she cocked her head towards the museum and thought "
  7. Marionette holds her action. She'll go at the same time Jaci does, and Mental Blast Dynamo when she hits him.
  8. 21 on her Mind Control check
  9. He should meet with his good buddies Avenger and Freedom Angel! Though maybe not at once.
  10. "Forest and field are as fine a cathedral as any, if the heart is pure," Heyzel confirmed with a smile. He talked business with her for a while, describing the arrangements he wanted and where they'd need to be placed inside the building. His eyes fell on her hand as they talked, and his smile widened. "Ah, I see you're to be wed. How wonderful! When do you plan to have the ceremony?"
  11. "I've seen superheroes kill my friends in front of me," said Jack suddenly, his voice quiet and low so it wouldn't carry, his eyes flicking around behind his glasses to make sure no one was listening. This was something Taylor knew about, though it was rarely something he discussed. "Some of them died like monsters, hissing and growling in their rage. Some of them begged for the mercy their murderers thought they were giving them." He looked down at the table, and for once couldn't quite meet anyone's eyes, before he looked back at Erik. "Lynn doesn't frighten me. It's what she, and people like her, represent for my family."
  12. "I guess you guys are right," said Mark. He still looked, and felt beaten down, but his natural resistance to despair was beginning to return after talking to his friends. He wasn't falling any lower, at least. "I really should talk to the experts...and maybe my mom should too." He sighed softly, then stood up, reluctantly disengaging from that nice kitty. "Thank you for talking to me. I'm sorry I have so many problems right now."
  13. "Not very well," Heyzel clarified. "With infinite time and infinite space, most of the older inhabitants of Heaven dwell in the farthest realms, beyond where the younger inhabitants visit on a regular basis. He arrived there nearly fourteen centuries before my birth, after all. But he's a friend of my mother's, so he visited occasionally when I was younger." He smiled a little, then shook his head. "He actually was involved with my education as well, but that's a different matter. He won't be attending, of course, but I'm sure he'll appreciate it. Do you participate in organized worship?" he asked her sociably.
  14. "Because I respect you, Erik, I understand that what I'm about to say is unnecessary for you to hear. I just want to make sure that your colleagues are aware of it as well." When he spoke it was absolute assurance, as if the personality he affected around humans was gone entirely. "There will not be unfriendly visitors to our home." With the smile snapping back on, he added, "That said, we need to work out the ground rules for what'll happen over the weekend. Would you prefer capture the flag, or flag football?"
  15. Shouldn't have wasted an HP on that, but it still ain't bad!
  16. "Rally to me!" Freedom Angel called, his flaming sword a beacon of light as righteous warriors joined him in the battle against the dark. "We shall slay them all in their legion and send them back to the Adversary from where they came! DEMONS OF DARKNESS, TASTE THE POWER OF THE LIGHT!" And at that juncture he began the killing, falling amongst the demons like a divine wolf among sheep.
  17. "Actually, this is for St. Stephen's Day, so we have a week of preparation yet. Though the church doesn't practice the same kind of veneration of individual humans as other sects do, they do celebrate the figure the church itself was named for; Stephanos of Jerusalem." He hmmed, looking around, and said, "I would like something in hyacinth, please. Stephanos always enjoyed their smell, and I think he would appreciate them being used to honor his name."
  18. Jack patted his wife lightly on the arm and resisted the urge to glare at Erik. Erik hadn't known there was an issue there...and for some reason it seemed faintly hypocritical somehow. "Yes, that sounds close to what I'd imagined. Our friend the pixie took finding out my nature very badly. I understand she was considering hunting in the past, but fortunately she seems to have dropped that notion." His mouth crooked up faintly in an honest smile. "As for Doctor Archeville, you'll be glad to know that I've returned his hundred bucks. Since I'm no longer acting as his agent, I wanted to make sure you were all comfortable with my fulfilling your other friend's invitation."
  19. "Hello, Stesha," he said with a smile. "It's lovely to see you again." Looking around at the flowers, he smiled, a little wider. "This place is every bit as lovely as you described. It's such a wonderful thing for people to be able to come into a place like this and come away with as many flowers as they want," he said with honest, if naive pleasure. "I should have come here earlier. I'm actually shopping for my home at St. Stephen's."
  20. Reminding himself that he wasn't in competition with the man, Jack concentrated, studying Erik intently. Would I be so different, if I was him? It was a tough question to answer, especially since he had a feeling the 'right' answer wasn't actually correct. "For the record, I generally don't sneak up on my wife...on purpose." Except when he was in the mood, but that was a different matter entirely. "As for you, Erik, I don't really know what to say. If I was trying to frighten or offend you, we'd be having a very different conversation, and I certainly wouldn't have my partner and my son here." He studied Erik again and added, "So this weekend, do you think your team can handle it? I'm not talking about me, I'm talking about the personality side of things."
  21. Freedom Angel had gotten used to getting funny looks, at best, wherever he went in town. With his usual bluntness, he'd decided to simply live with that. Looks sometimes meant questions, and questions meant answers that he might be able to give to a city in need of guidance. So when St. Stephen's needed flowers for the special Feast of St. Stephen service, he decided to buy them himself. Taking money from the church coffers (carefully signing it out first), he simply looked online for a good flowershop, then took off, flying towards the downtown. A few moments later, he landed in front of Stesha's flowershop and simply strode inside, folding his wings close behind his back while he was inside.
  22. "I've heard worse," Jack replied with that same smile, giving Erik's annoyance about as much weight as he thought it deserved. He did his best to remind himself that he and Erik were in similar situations, and the other man had ever reason to be uncomfortable, but empathizing with other people had never been easy. He shot for charm, the better to keep himself from ruining the moment. "I ate before we came, but are you hungry?" he asked Erik. "Anything the two of you want is on me."
  23. Jack was uncomfortable himself, wearing sunglasses, but glad Taylor was there to help keep the baby happy. He wasn't a huge fan of the sunshine, but he could live with it, if only so Taylor and Jack Jr. got what they needed. He scanned the cafe streets, keeping an eye out for Erik. "He'll be okay. The sun's awfully bright today. Does he need his bottle?" They normally breast-fed, but kept a bottle out in public, so no one would see Jack Jr. latch on, and into, his mother.
  24. "Excellent." Glad they hadn't gone into some killing fit , one way or another, Jack moved on. "Taylor and I will meet you at that little cafe down the street?" It was the sort of ethnic place that catered more to people from outside the neighborhood with money: in short, people like Jack and Taylor. "In half an hour or so?" Offering to meet in daylight was quite a concession for him, but it was worth doing for something this important.
  25. Jack thought about antagonism and comradeship, about the times Erik had annoyed him versus the honest fear in the other man's voice. In the end, for once, he picked the answer he thought Erik would prefer. "The number is on the record. As for your name, I got that the same way I do everything else, my sword-wielding friend. With style." He chuckled, then added, "I take it you'd rather not meet at your place, then?"
