  1. "Super-Hitler clones!?" Edge's eyes widened. "I always knew this day would come!" He shot a look at Ace. "Mr. Danger, do you still have that big steam-powered machine gun you used in the Adventure of Ace Danger and the Steam-Punks? Because if so, I have a great idea for what we can do with the Super-Hitler clones!"
  2. "No, which is too bad, because I could use her to solve this thing easy-peasy," said Edge, rubbing his chin thoughtfully. He'd changed into his costume in a moment, and had encouraged Faith to put on her school uniform as well. "If I could just see inside there, I could help them all out. I wouldn't even need to be near the building to do it. Do the cops have a security camera set up or something, like in those SWAT movies?"
  3. Wander's devastating blow, aimed at the area that Midnight had already cunningly tricked the Grue into striking, finished the huge shapeshifter with a single mighty strike. Giving a low, terrible moan, it collapsed beneath Midnight like a bowl of jelly, slowly collapsing down into a wet, sticky puddle as unconsciousness took from it all vestiges of shape.
  4. "Feh. We chased away the monster, didn't we?" Jack looked down at the place where Stesha had been and shook his head. "I've buried too many friends down here," he said unhappily. A moment later, with hopefulness dawning in his voice, he added, "The difference is, Stesha buried herself. That's something, at least. The soil down here is very fertile, it's been used to grow many things over the years." He folded his arms behind his back, his well-muscled torso flexing as he did so. Fighting the urge to violently beat Jack's good guess out of his skull, he simply said, "I don't come to your house and ask you a lot of stupid questions about your personal life, so I'll thank you not to do the same. As for you, Ace, you're not getting any of my mushrooms." He relaxed at that, putting his arms around Taylor.
  5. In a flash of light, the angel of Freedom appeared over the airport, grief on his face as he heard the screaming and terror below. Despite himself, he shot a look at the skies overhead, wishing for the impossible: for the Celestial Host to be by his side as they had been in his youth, when he'd been just a soldier in the eternal war against the Adversary. But they weren't there of course. This was a fight for superheroes. Hoping his new friends in the Freedom League had gotten the same signal he had, he dove to battle.
  6. 18, when he does go.
  7. Jack Faretti was not, by the standards of most people, a smart man. But he was a cunning man, with the low, quick strategizing of a predator. And what he saw when he looked out his bedroom window that morning offended his predator's instincts to the very core. "They couldn't have come five hours ago?!" He swore, violently, and moved to change. "Honey, we've got to go," he said to Taylor. Despite himself, his eyes fell on her belly. "Why don't you go get the other Midnighters?" he suggested. "While I engage one of these?"
  8. Roaring helplessly, the blinded Grue went staggering around, waving its giant armored fists. "Crush you! I crush you!" It pulled back a giant fist and brought it up to smash it into Midnight, a blow that had the unfortunate side-effect of striking his own face full on. He staggered, and nearly fell, his blood running freely even as he walloped Midnight.
  9. "Have met undead aliens before," said Avenger with perfect reassurance. "Tricky customers. But not these. Just stupid children, echoing rituals they don't understand. Not that it'll save them, or us, if they stumble across something particularly vile. " Avenger spoke with real contempt; Jack had plenty of experience with cultists, and it hadn't been at all pretty. He paced around the cemetery, abandoning his usual practice of climbing on mausoleums and tombstones for the sake of his guest's sensibilities. "When the living make traffic with the dead, nothing good can come of it."
  10. The giant Grue is bruised. Have an HP. That's a DC 27 Tou save for Trevor.
  11. The Grue gave an agonized roar as Midnight struck it a painful blow, staggering the huge giant. It looked down at Midnight and gave a terrible, angry hiss. "Your bones will feed the hives of our young!" he spat with murderous intent before hurling a massive bony fist the size of Midnight's entire body directly at the dark-clad teen, shattering the pavement beneath him.
  12. Wander's staff drove itself deep into "Tesla's" mouth, breaking teeth and sending a shower of blood everywhere as the foul-faced fiend collapsed, landing in a welter of broken teeth and fangs, wiggling and hissing as it collapsed back to a single formless mass. With his 'partner' down, the giant Grue gave a terrible roar of rage!
  13. Gamma is down for the count. Our order is Wander Grue 1 "Tesla" Midnight Grue 2 "Tim" Wander is up.
  14. "Good. Because Tesla Atom didn't." And with those words, she suddenly drew back her fist and hurled it at Midnight, the limb, suddenly a razor-spiked, ominously dripping tentacle erupting past his face with blinding speed. She gave a malignant, terrible hiss at that, huge teeth erupting in her lovely face. Behind her, her 'boyfriend' turned bright red and began to grow and grow, suddenly reaching a height of nearly thirty feet as he revealed his true terrible alien nature!
  15. "No, baby," said Mark reassuringly, "your cooking is the best ever." He smiled at her, and in her eyes totally forgot about the weird doubts he'd had about their relationship lately...for a little while, anyway. Faith wasn't _that_ into him, anyway. "So, Mike," he asked, "are you and Alex going out anywhere tonight?" he asked hopefully.
  16. "Bright," Jack commented, automatically shielding his eyes from the harsh glare like a man looking directly into the sun. "The soil here is good. It should give her the nutrients she needs...for whatever she's working on." He watched as Stesha partially sank into her new home. "And for the record, Ace, the mushrooms are used at Sajarno's, the organic pizzeria on Ditko Street. Best brick oven pizza in the tri-county area, or so I've heard."
  17. "Oh, wow!" said Edge, putting his hand over his mouth. "That was wicked," he murmured quietly. "Mr. Danger, is he okay? Are we going to need to stage...an exorcism?" he asked worriedly. "That looked like really powerful magic, and you don't want to get possessed by just any scroll."
  18. With one mighty blow, Wander set the gamma-powered goon to his knees, smashing the Atom-Smasher over the head and sending him collapsing into an unconscious, still-faintly glowing heap. He wasn't hot to the touch anymore, but he was still pretty darn radioactive, and it was a good thing Wander was so very tough to be standing this close to him. Over across the way, Tesla Atom and her date looked unhurt. "We're fine," she said, shaking her head, and she reached out to take her boyfriend's hand. "I've got to get back to the Nucleus. There's something really big brewing, and I was trying to get Tim out of the way." She shot a look at Midnight, a curious look on her face. "Do you know anything about Grue?"
  19. Considerably more subdued than everyone else, Mark followed along as they headed for lunch. He stopped leaning on Faith as they went, but did absently hold her hand as he walked along after everyone else. He knew he wasn't that badly hurt; his small injuries stung, but they'd heal fast enough. It was just...well, no one had really understood. Maybe he was the one in the wrong, then. And that was scarier than falling down fifty flights of stairs.
  20. "Pfft." Thunder was on firmer ground now. "Once _I_ tell them how Anarchy and Speed went down faster than a drunk Donna Mason, I won't be the one in trouble. We've gone to a lot of trouble to take this dimension, and I'll be damned if I'll let a pack of no-account do-gooders like you do anything about it." He focused his attention on Freedom Angel suddenly and gave a truly malevolent laugh. "Well, waddya know? I'm surprised you haven't cut Johnny Speed's head off yet, Angel." Freedom Angel gave Captain Thunder a truly stern look. "Whatever sinful reflection of myself you know, I pay him no mind. The justice of Heaven is the same even in a world corrupted by sin." "As I recall, that's exactly what you said when you stabbed Star Vixen to death," sneered Thunder in reply. "I dare you to try it in Star Island. I know Red Siren's looking for a rematch."
  21. "Mummies are evil," said Edge with perfect assurance. "Sometimes they're sympathetic, and all, like if they're trying to resurrect a lost lover or something, but even that always goes bad." He started ticking things off on his fingers. "Like when the Freedom League fought Sutekh-Ra, the Forever Pharoah, or when the Liberty League fought Herr Set and Der Mummy, or when the..." He shrugged. "You get the idea."
  22. "Uh, okay," said Mark, sounding honestly confused. "Sorry if I made you worry," he added apologetically. He pecked her on the cheek and said, "Really, I think it's healthy to eat in the cafeteria. It keeps you grounded, keeps you from just eating refined food all the time. You guys should get the burger more often."
  23. Avenger eyed Dead Head at that. "More common than you might think." Disappearing from the top of the mausoleum, he reappeared alongside the zombie, a tombstone obscuring the lower half of his body. "Never could stand the aristocracy of the dead. Don't need a catacomb." As a wind picked up, he said, "Broke up a cult called the Necro-Kings about a year ago. Some kids found their toys and are thinking of staging a comeback. We're going to make sure they find something better to do than necromancy."
  24. Okay, the Avengers are in your hands: I've got nothing till we find Fulcrum. :awesome:
