  1. Keen fighter that he was, Jack soon recognized this enemy. He'd fought this enemy before, grappling with it in some of the greatest struggles of his life. He let her see him, to recognize him and see the true nature of her enemy, before he struck. "Knew I'd find you here somewhere," he said, slipping from the shadows before Phantom. It would have been easy to stay hidden and attack whatever had them on edge, but not very professional. Truthfully, he hadn't seen anything anyway. "Guess I shouldn't drive. Situation?"
  2. Lemme know if I misunderstood. =)
  3. Freedom Angel looked appalled, but not angry, his wings flaring up behind him like a startled bird. Evidently this was something he'd expected, even if he wasn't very happy to hear it."Never would I make of myself a cult. That would be an abomination in the eyes of Heaven and the Creator. There is but one faith, Chosen of Heshem, and ne'er would I violate its tenets. You may take my word as an ambassador of the Hereafter."
  4. Initiative time Thunder goes on 17 Johnny Rocket...he's got Super-Speed 10. He goes first. Liberty goes on 22 Freedom Angel goes on 8 I'll get an IC post up shortly.
  5. Steelgrave holds his action till the Omegadrones go. Psyche is up, then Hellion.
  6. "Taking from me will give you nothing," said Steelgrave, his voice all the viler for its maddening calm despite the pain radiating through his vocodor. "You know that, don't you? All your rage won't bring back anything you've lost. I know, because I understand." She couldn't see his face, but all the same she had the feeling he was looking her in the eye. "It's only when you put aside all those feelings and embrace what's really in your heart that you'll understand. Let me show you how your feelings are your greatest weakness."
  7. More than sufficient! Given the weight's impediment and the fact that you're working at Flight 1, you'll get there on your initiative in the next round.
  8. "Not Nazis!" said Edge, who'd shrugged off Jack of Blades's remark as he would from any superhero who didn't even have their own action figures. "That's terrible. We should definitely do something about that. I should call my team..." He thought about that. "But most of them are pretty busy with history exams. I got out, because I aced the test already." He hmmed. "Do you guys have a jet? Because that would get us there really fast. If not, I've got something we can use."
  9. It was a clear, cold night as the two teens headed for the church, the snow that had been falling all day having finally come to an end after supper. The old neighborhood around them was quiet and still, covered by the cold, clear embrace of winter. The church in Lantern Hill was still active as they got close, though, the light shining through the newly-rebuilt stained glass windows in a cheerful, welcoming sort of way. As they watched, a winged figure wearing metal armor swooped down from the clouded sky overhead and landed by the church doors, letting himself in. There were no cars in the lot, though; evidently the church itself wasn't that crowded.
  10. "Well, I tried to take a bullet there," said Jack with a wry smile, concentrating on the wasp of this issue so he could ignore the slavering jackal of his own fears just behind it. "What do you think; we should tell her things were sped along because of your powers? And because...well, explaining me is going to be a little more dificult," he admitted.
  11. "It has to do with our work," said Jack, shooting Taylor a look well over her mom's head as he steered them all out of the grocery store. This was not a conversation to have anywhere near the public. "It's...very complicated. Why don't we discuss this back at your house?" he suggested. "We can meet there over lunch and tell you all about it."
  12. Normally, Jack wouldn't have gotten involved in a dispute between Taylor and her mother. That held doubly true for something as emotionally explosive as this. But, he decided, stepping away from the door, it wasn't as if he could declaim responsibility. "Hello, Dr. Chun," he said with disarming frankness and an apologetic look. "Please don't be angry at Taylor. I persuaded her not to tell you until we knew the baby was all right."
  13. Okay, Mike's going to be feeling the heat. (It's not that bad, since Geckoman's not on fire, but he'll definitely notice it.) It's fixed in the ground; give me a Strength check to wrench it free. Once you do get it out, it's light enough for you to carry.
  14. "That's a beautiful power," said Mark warmly. He didn't really feel quite as lovey-dovey as he was acting, but he reminded himself that this was what you were supposed to do in this situation. "Though I hope I don't have to see it outside of training anytime soon. Have you had your campus tour?" he asked her. "I'm a senior this year, and I know my way around pretty well." He tuned out what he could overhear from the others; they were just jealous _They_ hadn't saved the girl!
  15. "Ooh, Interceptor headquarters. That's neat," said Edge. He sounded interested, but not as delighted as he might have been with a different team. He did his best to remind himself that Modern Age superheroes were just as interesting as past ones. After all, he was from the modern age too. "Do you guys have a codebook? Every team should have a codebook. My team has one back at our secret lair."
  16. "I had similar concerns about our son," said Avenger out loud, forcing himself to take pride in what he'd feared for so long. "But Phantom can take care of herself. As for me, I can't think of anyone I'd rather rely on in this situation. Phantom can counter the other Dark Star's incorporeality better than any of us can. Ace and I will be best served getting Dark Star down here. He's very persuasive and if this Dark Star is anything like ours...well, he'll have something to say to me, one way or another."
  17. "If thou wishes to test the truth of my words, young woman," said the angel with a nascent heat in his eyes, "I am at your disposal." He paused, seemed to take a breath, and added, "As for the rest of you, there is only so much I can say. The infinite wisdom of the Creator is beyond the ken of mortals and angels alike." Which was certainly true, even if the full implications of it weren't something he liked to dwell on. "I prefer to let my deeds speak as plainly as my words."
  18. "Then let us go together." Feeling pretty good at accomplishing something that would surely lead to a successful, happy relationship, Mark took Faith's hand and stepped off the roof. They landed perfectly on the awning below, Mark sliding down and onto his feet as they finally came down on the soft grass of the Quad. "I haven't seen you around here before," he said, "and I know almost everybody." He smiled. "What lucky thing brings you to Claremont?"
  19. I'll roll for them as a group, since they're acting simultaneously. The Omegadrones pass the initial save, and are fine. Shadivan Steelgrave has killed and eaten better men than you. Phalanx is up.
  20. "The Liberty League would never do such a thing!" said Edge, offended by the mere idea. Except..."Well, come to think of it, there was that one time back in '73 when the Golden Age Centurion thought the regular Centurion was a Nazi spy and...well, that's not important right now." He studied Jack of Blades and said, "Say, aren't you Jack of Blades, the famous swordsman? With the sword made of fire?"
  21. "Faith, eh?" Mark took her hand, boosting her up to her feet. He stood close, close enough that they were standing close together indeed. From there, he said, "Come on down and meet the rest of our team. We're called Young Freedom." He walked with her to the edge of the building and said, "Do you trust me? Because if you do, I can show you something cool." He smiled.
  22. "Oh boy, a swordsman!" said Mark, looking delighted at this turn of events. He was so excited, in fact, that he grabbed the front of his shirt and ripped it off! His pants followed a moment later, leaving Mark clad in just his Edge uniform. "I sure am glad I wore my uniform today." He winked. "I was pretty sure we'd be getting up to something, one way or another. Lead the way, Mr. Danger!"
  23. Mark gazed deeply into the beautiful girl's eyes. "It's all right," he reassured her. "You just added danger. And danger is my middle name." This was how you were supposed to talk when you were with a pretty girl, he was pretty sure. He'd seen it on TV! "My name is Mark," he told her, great warmth in his voice. "What's yours?" he reached up and tapped his comm. "Everything's fine up here, Erin. Just fine."
  24. "Yes sir!" said Mark proudly. "My dad says you should treat him just like you'd have treated him at his age." Come to think of it, Mark did look almost exactly like Rick had at that age, if a bit easier on the eyes. "Are we going to go catch the villainess who tied you up?" he asked Ace, wide-eyed. "Because if she could beat you up, she must be pretty tough!"
  25. Mark took in what was happened in an instant and, just as quickly, sprang into action. "Noooo!" He fired his swingline and moved, bounding across the field, as he threw his all into rescuing the strange girl who was about to be a bug on Mike's windshield! He swung down, swept her up in his arms, and with a Herculean effort swung up and onto the nearby rooftop in a daring manuever of derring-do! "Are you...okay?" he asked her, holding his gorgeous face just inches from hers.
