Aquaria was expecting the lying song that came next but that made it no less unpleasant to hear. They followed the bloody trail through dark corridors lined with hideous statues of beings torn apart by a great clenching maw, until at last they came to a vast cavern where an obscene thing crouched atop a vast cyclopean throne, about it and echoing from the deep darkness the sounds and hooting of Deep Ones like a gigantic chorus, the thing itself the size of a small skyscraper when it stood, a monster of vaguely anthropoid outline, but with an octopus-like head whose face is a mass of feelers, a scaly, rubbery-looking body, prodigious claws on hind and fore feet, and long, narrow wings behind. As they entered it rose to its hind legs and gave a terrible bellow, raising a trident larger than a tractor-trailer over its head. "Dagon the king, in his raging," quoted Sea Devil as she unconsciously craned her neck to look upward, her tone like one confronted with abomination - albeit not quite the tone a Surfacer would have adopted here. "You will not fool us!" she bellowed at nothing in particular, raising her own trident high in mockery of the false song of her god before them. And then Justice was conscious of a dripping sound that wasn't coming from the rocks or the fish-frog god-thing - but of something just above her head...

Angelik "That actress playing Wendy was obviously costumed to target steampunk fetishists," muttered Eira, who had enjoyed Pan's company and perhaps also that of her friends but had not seemed to enjoy the movie very much at all - though it was hard to feel too bad in Pan's company for too long when he was so thoroughly enjoying himself. "Deplorable people lusting after a past where they would be thoroughly lost," she added, before smirking at Pan and saying, "You must be glad you live in a place with computers and proper sanitation now, yes?" She looked up at the pirate ship and scowled, her good mood seeming to fade. "They would come now, when so many are away with the Krampus Crisis!" She bit her lip, her skin seeming to shift in colors from pink to silver, and silvery wings erupted from her back and out the rear of a T-shirt that was really too thin for Freedom City in December anyway.

Okay - Lady Horus is going to hold her action until Wadjet can Aid her; i.e., she'll hold her action until after Wadjet goes.

Ashley made a long, rattling noise in the back of her throat that sounded like she was gargling salt water. "This is not a good time for the two of you to talk. I am sure there was a good reason why you are here and why your shirt disappeared just now," she added, "but we can talk about that another time." She shot Judy a look, the latter glancing somewhere past Micah's shoulder. "...all right, Ah guess that makes sense," she told Micah. "We'll talk tomorrow. Once you're...out of trouble?" she hazarded. He hadn't mentioned he would be. It wasn't hard to guess he was going to be.

"You two are real sweet together. Ah'm happy for you. And Ah am sure a boy that sweet must have good parents, too, so Ah'm sure it'll go well. Look for a Bible when you're in their house," she said, "Ah bet you'll find one even though they're scientists." Judy bit her lip, shifted in her seat, and for a moment it looked like she was going to bring up Leroy before she said, "Ah really want Micah to ask me out," she said, her voice coming all in a rush. She blushed again and looked away, curling her finger in her hair.

Knieval looked down at the shadowy hands grabbing for his ankles, dodging and weaving on his board but finding himself all tangled up in himself. "Woah-hoh! We've got ourselves some real party animals here!" He reached behind himself and pulled out a collapsible metal tube that blossomed into something that bore a striking resemblance to a shoulder-mounted rocket launcher. He grinned and declared, "But if we're going to have a party, we'd better dance!" "Yes, I... will get the tourists! I can see them all well enough," Eira hissed, looking briefly annyoed that she hadn't been the first to mention the idea. "you three fight him!" Knievel called out "Well well well, looks we've got a Peter Pan wannabe here!" Despite his words, he was still partially entangled in shadow - but that didn't stop from leveling his bazooka at Pan and firing - a searing blast of white energy that went sailing past Forever Boy's head and into the fairground booths behind them with an explosion! It looked as if a stall had been set afire behind them, and the staff was fleeing from a burning, overturned stove. "That's right! I have a degree in English literature - not that it did me any good!"

The computer beeped, flashed, and began playing a tinny version of a theme song before the schoolteacher scuttled over and quickly turned off the sound with a gesture from a long, segmented finger. She shot the human-and-demihuman students a glare, then went back to tapping away at her own screen with at least a dozen of those long, segmented digits. Even with patchy English subtitles the Claremont students got the story of the brave Admiral Kraken - the hero who fought the Lor, the Grue, and the Communion all in the name of Freedom! and Adventure! Ashley looked deeply skeptical of the whole thing as she watched, shaking her head a few times - it certainly seemed like a propaganda history, anyway. When the students looked up, Lon had moved to sit across the table from them, a friendly smile on his canine face as his voice deepened into a distinctly Southern drawl. "Kraken's come up in the world since y'all may have heard of him last. Freebooters always do better when the government of the day is just a little bit distracted." Judy frowned, staring at Lon, and asked, "Why are you talking like that?" "Ah thought Ah might make you more comfortable - Sister." And then the wolfman's eyes flashed a distinct, iridescent rainbow - so fast that the teacher didn't seem to notice. "You see it was quite a haul we caught, wasn't it? One of my own cast away among apes, her loyal and trusted bodyguard, a creature of infinite jest, and of course the god herself," he added with a nod to Danica. "What do you think?" he asked, rising to his feet. "Should Ah go tell Captain Rex what we're really hauling, or can you young people make me an offer that's a little more...interesting?"

Judy looked Micah in the eye, her hands tight on the windowsill before she asked softly, "Is that all you want, Micah Roebuck? Just to be friends?" She reached out to take his hand, her own grip almost fiery hot in his, and was pulling him closer to her window when - "The hell are you doing in our window?" demanded Ashley Smith from her position behind her sister, having awakened at some point in the fracas. Her bright pink hair was askew and her full-length plaid flannel pajamas were a far cry from the biker chick look she projected most of the time. "Good Lord!" said Judy, her eyes briefly lighting up as she released Micah's hand. "Ashley you about scared the living daylights out of me!" "I'm not the only one doing that," said Ashley firmly. "Was there something you needed, Micah?"

It was at this moment that a new figure swung onto the scene - a fit, muscular-looking man riding an flying skateboard, his blond hair up in frosted tips, a tightly-fitting tanktop and jeans on with heavy shades covering his face. His skateboard roaring with fiery jets from its rear, the figure landed among them and declared, "What's up, duderinos!? This here's Captain Knievel and I'm here to par-tay!" Despite the man's appearance the crowd seemed alarmed, some fleeing, others backing off far off - with a few of those Pan had spotted looking thoroughly confused. "Luckily for me the Freedom League is busy throwing down with some alien god today, so I'm the one who gets to pick the playlist." He smiled, and it didn't look pleasant. "So what's it gonna be?" he asked with a cocky smirk as he addressed the crowd. "Do any of you think you have what it takes to hang with the baddest dude in town?" Eira was staring at Kneivel with that pinched look that Pan knew meant she couldn't access the Internet and was not happy about it, her hand tight on his arm as she whispered, "I know him!"

"Ah think Ah tell you mah problems enough," said Judy thickly, scrubbing her hand over her eyes. "So how are you and Adam?" she asked. "Are the two of you...you know?" she asked, coloring slightly under her tan skin. "Do you think it's gonna get serious?"

A shadow seemed to part and Ouroboros saw his father emerge from the pit, looking somewhat bedraggled but just as he'd last seen him minus the tattered finery and the blood on his face and arms. "Help me, son!" The white hand extended in his direction. "It was this thing that took me away from you, fed my hunger!" His red eyes stared wide as Avenger declared, "It's not too late!" Behind his father, Ouroboros could see a trail of sizzling hot blood magic that trailed away to where the Deep One had just moved, deeper into the heart of the temple. - "I can hear them," said Aquaria, suddenly. "Lying whispers, everywhere. Do not be fooled!" she urged her friends, leaping not over the pit (for she knew better than to leap across an open maw for that way lay devouring) but along its side until she reached another door deeper into the temple. Loathe to leave the others behind, she turned to face them as she pointed with her trident.

The one-bedroom apartment turned out to be almost too mundane on the inside, with the sort of generic decorations and furniture that looked rather like something out of a catalog. "There's bottled water and shelf-stable food in the kitchen," said Judy, walking in and sitting in a green stuffed hair, curling her feet up under her legs "Ashley had to make sure anybody who was sheltering with me would be all right." She fiddled around with what looked like a box on the table, turning on what eventually was a big, heavy emergency radio. "Ashley used to know her, back when she was costumed. Not the new Raven, or the one who's coming to school with us this fall, the old one from when we were kids." Judy smiled and said "She actually reminds me just a little of Ashley, but Ah don't think she likes hearing that. Sometimes people find someone they think is going to be close to them, but it doesn't work out." She blinked and stared at the radio, falling silent.
-
"You can do that?" asked Judy, eyebrows shooting up. "With your powers, or...well never mind, it doesn't have boobytraps or anything, it's just a regular mundane apartment." She stood back to let Lulu work, looking around to keep an eye out for passersby. "That way it doesn't attract any attention from any super-catburglars or something. Which Ah don't think makes much sense since everyone's a bird, even the bad guys, but what can you do?" She shrugged, adding, "Did Ah ever tell you Ah met the Raven?"
-
Judy looked Micah over, her eyes wide, and said, "...Ah'm okay," She blinked, then added, smiling shyly, "Ah mean, it's...it's not bad or anything, since you're here, but still..." She tangled her fingers in her hair, then whispered, "It's nice you were thinking of me." She looked at him, hesitated, then said, "Micah, Ah...ah have owed you an apology for a while now but Ah have not been brave enough to say it. Ah should not have tried to flirt with you that time to get you to play music for the youth group, that was not a very Christian way to do things and Ah have felt...very bad about that." She looked away, then back at Micah, "But if you do still want to be my friend, that sounds real nice."

After a moment's pause, the reflective window slid open partway - and Judy's wide-eyed face appeared in the space. Of course he hadn't needed to rap too loudly or worry about a long response time - on late nights like this Judy just sat up in her bedroom and read. And prayed. "Micah, what are you doing?" she whispered, peering behind him as if trying to see if the world was on fire. "Did something happen?" She glanced behind her and whispered, "Should Ah wake up Ashley?"

A Perfect Family An undisclosed location in New Orleans When Judy could see the world again, Ashley was there in the small apartment she'd rented and secured for the occasion - and without a word, the two women embraced for a long time. When they released, Ashley put her hands on Judy's fever-warm shoulders and said simply, "I am so proud of you, honey." Her phone was frantically buzzing, but for the moment they both ignored it. "Are you okay?" she asked, trying to get some feeling out of the wide-eyed look on Judy's tan face. "Ah'm...Ah'm okay," said Judy, though she wasn't at all sure she meant it. "It's like Ah...Ah stepped off the board, and Ah'm just waiting to hit the water now. The scary part is over." Now her phone was buzzing too, and she winced just a little. "Well that's Jerusha. Ah guess Ah'd better take that...and you should take that too," she said, nodding to the frantically dancing phone on Ashley's hip. "Okay. I lit some candles in the bedroom, and there's soft music cued up on the CD player." It was less stressful for Judy to listen like that, sometimes, when there really was just the music and no Bluetooth signals coming with it. "I love you, kiddo," she said softly as she saw Judy sit down on the couch - then took out her phone for what proved to be a very long conversation with first her immediate supervisor, and then the President of the United States...

Given your high Arcane Lore, it seems reasonable to assume that this belonged to the leader of whatever cult was in process of trying to summon Vhoka. Or maybe _did_ summon Vhoka, through eating each other in gory rituals. This guy however did not die - at least, not physically...

The robe is torn and bloody but noticeably gaudier than what's left of the others - woven through with fine strands of gold and otherwise showing a much more detailed arcane workmanship.

Have an HP, @Zeitgeist Blue, for what felt like a taste of the future. If you can beat 25 on Notice or 20 on Survival (take 10 or 20 on either if you like, you've time), you can spot what Aquaria has spotted: The cultists here ate each other. There also is one robe that doesn't seem to belong to any of the dead bodies...

Salvo saw it simply enough. They were all filtering into the temple when suddenly she felt a crack in the middle of her spine and fell, helpless and paralyzed to the ground. From there, unable even to scream, she watched the horrific scene play out as Ouroboros and Sea Devil turned on Justice and cracked her open like a tin can to feast on the sweet juices within, then hurled her corpse into the open maw while chanting in eldritch tongues. Then Ouroboros took Sea Devil's trident and impaled her through the back while the latter bellowed "A SACRIFICE! A SACRIFICE FROM ALL OF US!" The blood called something from within the maw, something black and furred and writhing, that grabbed Salvo by the ankle and dragged her down to where teeth and claws awaited. "No," Aquaria was just telling Justice, "this definitely looks like they were eaten too." She bent down over the corpses, sniffing the air with her great nostrils, and said, "This...I smell the beast here, but...it is very strange. Those big sharp teeth from before, they did not do this...." Her eyes suddenly snapped open, bulging wide, and she dropped the fragment she was holding. "Look!" she demanded. "Come, and see!"

Sure enough it did look like a few confused people were wandering around, some trying their cells and getting no immediate response, others looking around the square with baffled looks on their faces - and some people Pan recognized from the ride, perhaps less observant than the rest, were just wandering off into the rest of the park. For her part, Eira was looking around with a tense expression on her face. "Claremont served its current purpose," she hissed, "but we cannot just go there and risk altering the future. There is the Freedom League but Leon is right - surely we can solve our own problems. And I cannot access the Internet of the future!" she spat with vehemence. "There were no major disasters in Freedom City this year, but it was still Freedom City. Keep your eyes open."
