Eira flinched visibly - and closed the door loudly enough that the sound echoed through the house, withdrawing her dataspike from the lock with a faintly audible click. She stared at Lulu and said frostily, "Fixing my family will not give you yours." She looked at Lulu - then couldn't hold it, looking away as her own face fell. When that was done, she turned on one heel and stalked down the hallway to the stairs. Her boots went clomp-clomp on the steps as she walked down to the first level, Mia's teleport echoing behind her as she appeared on the second floor. When she was downstairs Eira's face was set in a scowl, her hands shoved in her pockets as she walked past her father outside his study with a growl of "Not now!" before she found Pan and Micah outside in the back. Once there she walked right up to Pan without bothering to pose in her new outfit and stood on tiptoe just long enough to pull him down for a long, firm kiss right in front of Micah. She definitely still had her tongue-stud in as she released Pan. "Come along," she told him with a smile, "I have not shown you all the sights yet." She smirked at Micah as she started to lead Pan towards the hedgerow. "Maybe Mia and Lulu will be up for a game of pool, yes?"

After a moment's consideration, Eira led the way inside the room's front entrance, looking skeptically at the flickering lights, some of which were inside the shelving units themselves (and had no visible source) rather than the overhead lights themselves. There were several 'corridors' inside the big storage room, each of them indifferently lit. "His passage must have disrupted the electromagnetic frequencies inside the equipment," she said, the prospect seeming to fill her with real unease. "Be wary of discharge. And no, do not touch anything. Chaaarlie," she called uncertainly, "come out and we will give you chocolate." She sounded as if she was making it up as she went along. If Charlie was out there in the storage corridors somewhere, he did not seem impressed.

"Oh, you'd like to see, would you?! Well I'll show you." Eira led the way down the hall to a small door by the window at the end of the hall, an entrance that looked more fit for a closet than anything else. She didn't even bother trying the knob, instead she thrust her hand forward and her dataspike buried itself in the old-fashioned keyhole. With a single loud click, the door slid open. Eira muttered a curse as it did so, revealing a room full of something Lulu realized she had never seen before. It was a room adorned with pictures of Eira's parents with a baby, a toddler, a little girl with a bright smile and big blue eyes as pale as the sea. Some of them were of Eira at play, but many of them were smiles in hospital rooms with a little girl who looked sicker and more bandaged in every one. In the middle of the uncarpeted room was a single ornate couch and a wooden table, topped with a black, utilitarian urn polished to a mirror image. Glaring at Lulu with what she took as triumph before her, Eira hissed, "This is the room where they come to mourn their dead daughter."

"They are not inventors," said Eira disgustedly. "They barely know anything about science. They have MBAs. They would not have the first idea how to injure me - and if they tried, I have friends who would stop them." She hit the wall, producing a distinct thump from the room next door, then said, frowning, "They preferred the sick little girl they could control, not a woman who could think and act for herself. They tried to hide this from me, but I found it. When I told them what I thought of that, they sent me to Claremont." She advanced on Lulu, then suddenly jabbed the mattress. "I have not slept in almost ten years, and yet they put this in here, because it is what a normal girl would have." She straightened up, and added confidently, "I will show them what a normal girl can do. I am eighteen now, yes? I can do what I want."

Eira's smile curdled like sour milk. "...why did they send me away to Claremont? They did it because the girl they made is dead and they fear the changeling machine left in her place." She held up her hand, where nail polish glittered iridescently in the dark, and hissed in a low whisper. "They pretend they do not think so, because it is not mannered to admit that you fear and are disgusted by your own child. But I am not stupid. I know the truth." She closed her hand and slid it too casually into her pockets, meeting Lulu's eyes levelly as she asked, "Just as you know the truth about yours, yes?"

"Yes. I need your advice." Eira was inside her room with most of the lights off, eyeing herself critically in front of a full-length mirror. When she turned back to Lulu, she was dressed - well, somewhat differently than she had been before. Eira was still wearing her leather jacket and jeans (though they seemed to be riding lower than Lulu remembered) but she'd pulled up her black t-shirt and tied it off above her navel, turning it into something closer to a halter-top. It wasn't exactly summer at Ibizia wear but it was certainly considerably more flirtatious than Eira typically wore around the room at Claremont. Lulu had never actually seen that Eira's navel was pierced too. "What do you think?" she asked, a faint smirk on her face. Her lipstick glowed faintly in the semi-darkness of her unlit room, a shade of blue and gold that shimmered like it was under a blacklight. "I am going to walk downstairs and show Pan the garden."

They made rather hasty plans to meet late that afternoon, around the time the heat of the Texas day would be fading to something more manageable. It was hard to tell if Katie knew she had been 'made' or not, but it seemed as if everything was still on the up and up as the duo headed outside and around the corner to meet up with a waiting Argonaut. Her own human disguise renewed once they were outside, Eira looked uncommonly thoughtful for a girl who had been so brash and thoughtless (for all her cleverness) as they drove away. "I saw it in her eyes," she answered when she was asked how she'd figured out Katie's secret. "Her blinking pattern is exactly the same, every time. It is the same with what she uploaded onto Youtube and Tiktok. It is a 'tell' in some synthetic life built to resemble organic." She looked up at the hotel again and said, "She was here before we were - and she acted as though she knew more about this situation than us."

"Charlie likes to play tricks," Mia informed Ryder. "He is very tricky." Turning to the nearby ball, she said firmly, "Mizz Erin! Charlie is playing tricks!" Eira made a strangled noise at the back of her throat and bolted right out the sliding door. The lock on the door next to the science lab took no more time to open than it did to make the connection with her dataspike. The door slid open, revealing a substantial room at least twice the size of the laboratory where the teenagers had been working in breadth, depth, and length. It was full of plastic see-through shelves, stacked floor-to-ceiling with a dizzying array of gadgets and gear, the overhead lights flickering as if something had recently interrupted their power. There was no immediate sign of where the boy had gone - at first glance, anyway. The sign on the door of the second room said IMPOUND - NON-HAZARDOUS.

Otaku staggered back from the Little Mermaid's hit, smashed against the rear of the holographic arena with an impact that would have been bone-crunching to a real man. "You won't get me that easily, you cow!" He raised his hand and fired a missile from his left forearm, a fast-spinning anti-tank weapon that had seemed to miss Mette entirely before it arced around behind her to land - and explode! The sudden kinetic impact blasted her forward, setting her ears ringing as Otaku advanced on her again, informing her with a slightly frantic laugh, "I'm the Main Event around here, and you're just my next target!"

ic Meanwhile at the stately Summers Manor...
Avenger Assembled replied to Tiffany Korta's topic in North Bay
"Mm." Ashley supposed she might have overreacted - though if the old woman was losing her touch that badly...on the other hand, this meant the two of them weren't working hand-in-glove. There were possibilities there. "You can describe her?" She didn't press, knowing a teen would react to things differently than the adult Summers. If it wasn't Tomorrow, she wondered if it was one of the Tick-Tock Doc's groupies - though honestly she didn't know very much about the time-traveling hippie. (Someone more prominent like the Clock Queen, she probably would remember.) Geez, how do I know so much about time-traveling crooks, anyway? She'd learned about it from watching Callie Summers, of course. "We can probably get something arranged, if we can figure out how she got here."- 47 replies

Judy gave Danica a pained beauty-queen smile - that faded after a moment to a grimace. "Yes, well...when you're running on protecting family values, it's important to show you protect your family." She shot Ashley a look, getting a slight but encouraging nod from her bodyguard, and said softly, her voice almost a stutter, "not...not much family protection going on if you ask me, Ah mean, it's just Ashley 90% of the time." She bit her lip and looked away. "I have good genes," said Ashley with a shrug. "It helps that a lot of people have been ruined by all those TV shows where people my age were cast to play teenagers. Even so - people don't look closely at Claremont. Sometimes it's annoying but it's saved our bacon a bunch of times."

Katie told them everything she'd seen, or so it seemed - a tale of how she'd read posts about the events in Texas on Reddit, then followed her nose out there a few days earlier in time to chase down a few of the animals, and stories about the animals herself. She spoke live for much of it, turning and smiling at her cameras, occasionally shutting them off for 'real secrets.' "I've got a few leads on the base out in the high desert, but I don't want to give anything away. Not to sound like a simp, but I'm a city girl through and through, and I could use an expert on desert conditions for my next video up there - if you're interested, that is. And as proof I'm not some redditor with big dreams..." She headed over and reached under her bed, fishing around for something. They were definitely no longer live, which was probably for the best because Eira was staring fixatedly at Katie with an odd expression on her face. After some time, she pulled something out from underneath the bed - a bright pink bag covered in roller derby stickers. "Check this out." She zipped open the bag, smiling big as she showed Danica and Angelic what lay inside - a small, slick-looking lizard - if you ignored its delicately-worked metal skin and glowing red eyes. The small creature had seemed inactive in the bag, but blinked and began to move in the light. Eira glanced down at the lizard, blinking hard. The lizard looked up at the trio of humanoids above it and seemed to focus its attention on Danica, blinking its eyes and darting away from her the way a small, nervous lizard would bolt from a human, only to find its little scrabbling legs couldn't take it up the soft sides of the bag. "Huh! That's strange - he hardly even noticed I was there," commented Katie. Eira considered a moment, then looked at Danica significantly - just as the latter's phone began buzzing with an incoming text. "That is important," she whispered softly.

@Tiffany Korta An experienced superhero like Klara recognizes Solo Takashi - the infamous supervillain Doc Otaku. But his presence here is decidedly odd. Takashi is (was?) a builder of sentient robot servants. It's very difficult to imagine him working with a machine supremacist like Talos. His identity certainly explains the hostility many in the crowd seem to feel towards him, but that doesn't explain the question of why he's here at all. If he _is_ here at all, since at this moment he's just a holographic projection... Overall this scene reminds Klara of many other fight crowds she's seen through her long life - there are patrons excited about what they're watching, bored out of their minds, emotionally aroused, thoroughly disgusted, etc. There are even the usual intoxicants on display, though many of the cyborg patrons seem to be buying geometric metal shapes to hold against their heads rather than alcoholic drinks to accomplish the same effects. The patrons themselves are a mix of recently-arrived refugees and low-level government employees (that's the cyborgs) - come to think of it, most of them work for the same refugee organization that took in the South Americans you arrived with. Hardly anybody here works directly with the Great Work at all, though the 'locals' do make some wistful references to it.

"Hm." Eira glanced at the kids before responding, and seemed to be modulating her tone from her earlier snappishness. "It is not just me that is in exile, unless this is what Dragonfly gives you. They are analyzing interstellar technology, and we are here with a backup copy of my own arm," she added with a gesture at the cybernetic prototype, "your robot, and babysitting. Because we are teenagers." She brought a spoonful of her smoothie up to her lips, then blinked and set it down. "Babysitting is fun though!" declared Mia, "we watch movies and sometimes talk to Merlin! Do you have any movies?" She and Charlie talked for a while about how Trolls: World Tour was the best movie, and how funny the trolls were, and also how Merlin was a magic monkey who was good with computers and wasn't it funny that a monkey was good with computers, and Eira had the grace to snort when Charlie called over "_are you a monkey!?_" Mia was a little more wiggly than Charlie, so she wound up going second while Charlie wandered around the lab, looking very pleased with his newly-decorated fingernails. "Thank you!" he had declared, waving his fingers around to dry them faster. He was much too short to actually get up and touch any of the equipment, most of which was deactivated anyway, so everything seemed safe as he wandered up to one of the building's interior walls, rolling security ball in tow. "Hey," he said suddenly, "I have a trick." And then, without looking around and with only a faint rippling in his outline, he ran through the wall and disappeared, leaving no trace of where he'd gone.

Okay - @Tiffany Korta, give me some rolls of the skills you're using to snoop. If you have Gather Info, or Knowledge (Current Events) or (Streetwise), now would be the perfect time to roll well on those checks. Either Stealth or Bluff will be good for your spying, depending on whether you're doing it physically or socially. @Kaede Kimura, you gain access to your shadow powers again, and you have an unsettling feeling on looking at this projection as if something is spiritually wrong with it. Unfortunately, you don't actually know enough about magic or the spirit to know what that means! You notice that the crowd really does seem to be rooting for Mette - they're murmuring derisively and pointing at the Main Event, and someone distinctly yells something about "make him drown in his filth!" The arena's floor is closing against the possibility of accidental spray, and there's the faint buzz of an energy field forming around the arena now that Mette's actually in side. You spot floating devices you recognize as camera drones (similar to a model Vanguard uses) obviously recording and broadcasting the fight elsewhere. @RocketLord You do have that HP! The crowd is definitely on your side, you can tell that - which is a little odd under the circumstances, maybe? You spot all the changes too. Bad Guy initiative: 17 Okay, RL, you also win initiative - since you'll be in and out for a bit as per your conversation with me, we'll let the investigation side of things proceed while you fight. Go ahead and act first!

"Everyone here is very nice and very considerate," said Ashley with a small shrug. "People have enough of their own secrets that they don't go digging around into other people's." "Leroy knew," said Judy sadly, "and so does Mia. Ah was worried when he left, but he's a good boy, he's not going to tell. There were other people Ah've thought of telling..." She looked away, thoughts of Micah and Corinne in her head, then said, "But that's it. There are people here who it just wouldn't be safe to tell. Who just be too careless, one way or another." She looked at Danica and impulsively hugged the tortoise-girl, her skin as usual fever-hot against Danica's. "That's why Ah'm just so grateful for having really good friends."

Bernhard smiled at Mia. "Well, that may not have been exactly how Eira put it-" "Father!" Father and daughter exchanged sharp looks - and then there was dessert. Tahini almond cookies. Elsa really was a good cook. Magda asked a few questions about literature as they ate, enough to make it clear that Eira never had explained Pan's exact origins to them. Peter and Elsa were off after dinner, so everyone pitched in to clear the table and load the substantial dishwasher in the large, fully-modernized kitchen. After that, the teens were free to do what they liked around the house as evening began to set in; though of course the time difference meant that none of them had exactly come ready to sleep. It had stopped raining by now and it was wet outside, the green grass and trees sodden as they'd be in a rain forest, albeit getting cold in a way that meant it'd be in the high fifties tonight. Or about fifteen, if you used the local thermometers. It really was a big old manor house, large even for a household with two servants and multiple visitors. It was obvious that a building like this had been intended to house many more people.

Both of you, give me a Computers/Gather Info/Knowledge (Current Events)/Knowledge (Streetwise) check, whichever is higher. "The numbers are bets on whether or not you'll defeat the Main Event, Little Mermaid." There was an ugly laugh from the crowd, one that oddly enough didn't seem directed at Mette directly. "So far the audience favors you. I do hope you won't disappoint them." She laughed again, then stepped back as another hologram coalesced - forming the image of a slim young Asian man, his face hidden behind goggles and his body wrapped in an electric blue skinsuit. "Main Event," she asked, a distinct smirk on her face. "Are you ready?" "This is it?" he sneered, turning to the other hologram. "Some baka in old-time armor? This is going to be a piece of cake." The hologram grew larger, pieces of metal seeming to cling to it from nowhere, until a suit of power armor the size of a mini-mech stood before the Little Mermaid. "Let's do this!" The crowd was definitely cheering now, both for Little Mermaid and "Main Event", but something in the interaction seemed...off.
