Nyrath - Black Anubis - PL13 Villain (NPC Tier 3)
angrydurf replied to Nyrath's topic in Archived Characters
Looks pretty good just a few little things. If you could put the attack entry in the format of +8 (+14 ranged) its easier to see what is base and what is from feats. I count 97 not 99 points spent on powers. within powers I'm a little nervous about disintegrate but as it is on a tier three NPC I'm not gonna disallow it. If you do want to use Black Anubis in threads you theoretically can if a ref gives you permission and agrees to keep an eye on what you're doing with him is my understanding. Alright I stand corrected. Except in cases of extreme staff laziness Tier three is staff only. Make sure to bug sandman if you want to use Black Anubis in a thread ;) -
Yea thats probably even better than boost that way you don't have to worry about it fadeing etc.

Mike laughed slightly at her analysis, "Well dad just wants me to go to his old college I think. That and earning potential and all that." He explained, "I agree though, I mean dad really likes his job but I don't think sitting at a desk 9-5 will ever really suit me, even if I wasn't going to have to keep hero hours." he continued with a wink. He seemed nonplussed at her assessment, long since having grown used to her almost prescient ability to know what he's thinking even without active use of her powers. "I dunno really." He replied, "I was leaning towards the police, but I don't just want to be a mascot, and I could see that developing with the police." He paused not certain how to phrase the rest of his opinions, he respected the police a lot actually and knew they were definitely brave public servants but what her really wanted was to help people. "So, I guess I lean towards the Fire department, saving people ya know."

So am I in a grapple or pinned (and thus entangled). Since she did damage she couldn't use the grappling pin action. (also I don't think she can use a sword in a grapple).
-
Mike nodded agreement that that would probably work as they took their seats. For all his uncomfortableness past and present with his own powers he had never much cared for others looks or opinions and if he even noticed the looks Alex drew he certainly didn't care. He smiled at her question that wasn't and considered teasing her further about scouting his prospects but decided instead just to answer truthfully. "Yea I've put some thought into it." He replied. He'd actually put quite a bit of thought into it in fact. the full embracing of his powers and the responsibility of them had definitely changed his future prospects some. "Well counting on picking up a Freedom League stipend right out of high school might work for Mark but I'm not so confident that's in the cards." He said with a smile. "So I guess I'll have to get a day job. Dad thinks I should go to college but I don't think thats really for me."

Ah ha you are correct sir. No stun so I'm at 3 HP.

The touch would be for placing the disk after which the effect lingers If attaching the disk takes longer then you can either adjust the action of the power or use the "must have disks attatched" as a limitation to perception range Mind/emotion control. There are a few way to build the effect basically dependent on exactly how you want it to work. though it does get tricky if you want him to be able to maintain the effect when he is separated from the people he has enslaved. what I outlined about is basically useing the disks as a medium for the attack. If the disks are more a requisite to the effect but must be affixed to a helpless person then it might work better as a limitation/drawback (must have slaves) on a boost power and leave the drain effect as a descriptor that doesn't cause actual harm. the mind control aspect could be an explanation for the minions power/feat or since its an NPC just an explanation for the presence of minions of his in the thread.

Toughness 1d20+9=20 Hrmm I has HP for a reason: 1d20+9=29 That is how Ace Danger Rolls Stunned Bruised and Injured. Spend an HP to Clear the stun. 2 HP left. So is this a grapple or a pin? If a grapple here's my Grapple check (Grapple Check (1d20+16=28)), Yea needed a 20 to beat that. If its a Pin I can't beat a 33 with my reflex save But heres my strength check to break free of the pin when it gets to be my action, Strength check to escape pin (1d20+4=12) Still entangled.

Mike frowned at the death ridden path as they first approached it. He listened as those more knowledgeable about such discussed the options before speaking. "If the Lizard men were after Edge the one Psyche searched would have known. If they just took him because he was easy to grab, which isn't even true, She should have been able to reach him unless he was up in this dead zone." He opined and drifted into the air. "I'll take point and see if its dangerous. As long as I'm in sight Psyche should be able to pull me back if anything happens." He explained and flew up the mountain path careful not to go out of sight.

Ok Phantom can detect that her and Dead Head are being stalked by a pack of creatures from a shadow dimension. they are akin to wolves and sometimes summoned by shadow magicians as hunter-killer minions. They prefer to strike from surprise and are very vulnerable to both light and fire based attacks. Basically immune to cold or shadow based attacks and can go insubstantial at will. though they can not attack while insubstantial. (the later half of that is from your Arcane lore) Atlas before you enter the room you notice a line of strange runic script inlaid into the floor it seems as if there is like liquid shadow flowing through it and there is a slight chill emanating from it. there is a rat that seems like it brushed against it and is a withered husk. AKA IT"S A TRAP!

Nothing in cannon but there are certainly venues that that kind of event wouldn't be too out of place. Like Pyramid Plaza. If you want an event like this I think you can feel free to put something like it into your vignette.

Phalanx shifted nervously. He didn't like the idea of facing off against one another, especially after the last bout. But edge seemed to think that they needed to be able to handle each other apparently so it was unlikely they would get out of training with out at least some sparring. "So like Teams or free for all this time around?" he inquired uncertainly. Privately to Alex he asked, 'Is this a good idea?'

His rig that draws the power would be the actual device. The disks he attaches to others are mostly a descriptor (possibly a draw back if they can be removed easily) His device would have whatever Mind/emotion control powers you want to apply. The range would be touch I believe for either of those as I think they are lasting effects. The drawing energy would be in the form of a Drain linked with a Boost. The obvious Drain would be Con as it draws on life force but that gets to be deadly. Perhaps drain fort or will might work better to represent the energy taken. The boost would be related to whatever powers are boosted by his rig. If you keep the drain/boost combo low (like 1-2 ranks) he'd need several people to maintain his boosts. With higher drain/boost he'd drain more at a time from each individual and need fewer.

/Slaps Nyrath on wrist. Technically only refs are supposed to respond to these. That said start with what Nyrath said. Powers need descriptors, explanations of how they cause the effect and how your character is able to do so. Things like Mutation or magic, psychic phenomena etc. Also Paragraphs in the description and history sections would be easier on my eyes.

Date: February 8th, 2010 The paperwork didn't take long to complete and shortly thereafter Grimalkin arrived at Claremont Academy. She was met at the main gate by a vivacious young woman who introduced herself as Daisy Gibbons. A few discrete inquires revealed that she had plenty to say about Alexandra Albright as well as her friends, none of it favorable though none of it of any real substance either. Mostly rumors of broken curfews and boys in the girls dorms. She left Grimalkin at the administrative office with a happy smile and an over the shoulder warning, "Just make sure you don't end up with dregs like that Lenya." Inside the officious secretary took her name and asked her to have a seat on the bench in front the headmasters office next to a familiar young man in headphones bouncing lightly to the beat of his music.

Ok need a notice check from Atlas. Phantom you can make a more active search if you like to try and discover what is hiding behind the old magic here.

The reunited heroes set forth hoping to find their fellows. As they they ventured deeper into the vaulted catacombs the sense of foreboding grew greater. If they had not been inured to such horrors the pair likely would have fled long ago. As it was Phantoms mystic senses could detect that there was magic intending exactly that effect but there was also an undercurrent of something dark and sinister hiding behind the magical afterglow of the dark rites performed in these tunnels. *** As Atlas turned to corner he discovered the source of the light. Torches cast eerie light throughout the cavernous gallery carved from the living rock below the city. Filling the artificial cavern were hundreds perhaps thousands of corpses laid out ritualistically as if awaiting some final spark to bring them fully forth. The stench of death here was a palpable thing and it was clear now that the dark cult had plans far beyond mere grave robbing. Here there was an army of the dead ready to awaken and do their masters bidding.

Hide in Plain Sight needs a descriptor for how you do it. putting how many ranks of Regen are in each category would help as well. If you could, clarify the descriptors for his powers for nullify/immunities/vulnerabilities. Is it a magic disease? Does it induce some kind of mutation? -
