Kam was intrigued to hear the admitedded mentalists take on the idea of mental manipulation for the purpose of preserving such secrecy after Micah initially suggested it. His gaze softened at the very real panic and flicker of light over Abbeys head at the suggestion and was about to reply when Veronica deftly stepped in with the voice of a certain degree of experience. The other boy at the tables response was however a surprise and rather more heated than he had expected. He was glad that Micah managed to calm himself though he cleared his throat softly to lightly correct, "Well if the histories are to be believed the Patriarch of the Danger family was penniless when he began his explorations of the continent." he shrugged slightly, "though I admit it is difficult to ascertain how much of the american zeitgeist seized upon the tale and how much the story itself was molded to best fit the myth of hte self made man." He smiled lightly and with a friendly nod to both Veronica and Micah, "The truth likely lands somewhere in the middle." He paused as he pondered the question himself. Dakana had at times taken, extreme, actions to protect it's own secrecy. These were not actions any longer celebrated since his grandfather and father's reforms. While revelation of is own identity or that of his sister held little enough risk for themselves or their family it did increase the risk to those tasked with protecting them. "I think even if you are able to control the release of hte information and have the resources to protect your lvoedones." he began with care acknowledging such was oft not the case, "Someone is put at risk by the threat of super powered retaliation from the enemies of justice." he let out a slow sigh acknowledging Abbey once more, "A new identity is not out of the question, though eventually it will happen again." he frowned slightly, "Removing the knowledge from the individuals mind is some protection but altering the parameters slightly to a dead man's switch?" he questioned curiously, "If there was risk no matter what is what I'm suggesting." he clarified and nodded, "There are ways to discredit such information, to ensure such a claim is seen as so absurd it would be impossible to treat it asn ought but the ravigns of a lunatic." he nodded finally with a small shrug and at substantially less cost than a full security detail for ones family.

Twenty Questions 1. Where is your hero from? Dakana 2. How would your hero physically describe him/herself? Is this different from how others would? Average height with a healthy build and sure demeanor, well groomed and mannered. Others would probably focus on the hue of his skin and put his height and build at decidedly outside average. 3. Does your hero have distinguishing speech characteristics or recurring mannerisms? When performing as Kameron Kingdom he smiles too often and too widely seeming over eager to please almost. A caricature of the west's expectation of African native peoples. He tends to steeple his fingers when altering his phrasing for an audience, pausing before speaking to compose his statement with greater care than the average teen. 4. What is your hero's motivation? Kamau has a perhaps overdeveloped sense of noblesse oblige and certainty of his peoples cultural superiority. Dakana has too long stood by and allowed the vice and violence of the colonizers to ravage the continent and indeed the world. Dakana needs to prove and show a better way and lead the world toward a more egalitarian and selfless way. 5. What are your hero's greatest strengths and weaknesses? Kamau has the fine genetics of the Dakanan royal line and the upbringing and training to be a prime physical specimen and a cunning and careful combatant in realms physical, social or cerebral. He is perhaps over reliant on these privileges and his careful and deliberate manner of engaging leads to not only a certain inflexibility but a tendency to freeze up when the unexpected happens or he needs to make a split second decision without knowing the consequences beforehand. 6. What does your hero love? What does your hero hate? Kam is still young and idealistic enough to say things like "Equality!" and "Justice!" but it's closer to say while he hates the opposite he lacks the real depth of understanding to really love beyond the fraternal sense. He 'loves' his family, and adventure, and proving himself right. 7. How would you describe your character's mental and emotional state? Kam tries and usually succeeds at a certain detached paternalism in his emotional state. trying to please the group or person he's with without being weak. A peacemaker of sorts and prides himself on a level headed logical approach. 8. What does your hero fear the most? Failure. Real failure, not just temporary setbacks or being out performed by one better trained or prepared but failure where the blame lies on his own choices being the wrong ones. 9. What is your character's greatest ambition? Prove the superiority of the Dakanan model of governance and justice, bring the benefits of Dakanan cultural and technological achievement to the wider world and see a new age of more enlightened, connected, and unified society. 10. How does your hero feel about the state of the world and his/her place in it? The world is torn asunder by greed, petty tribalism, and historic hurts that are piled on historic hurts. In his more grandiose moments he feels he could fix some or all of those divisions. But mostly he recognizes he can lead by example and one step at a time try to lessen the harm of those forces wherever he may be. 11. Does your hero have any prejudices? How does he/she get along with others? Kamau takes great effort to listen to others and make sure they feel included and cared for, even enemies. At the same time he believes in a certain cultural superiority and regal self worth that puts he and his above those not part of his people. 12. Where do your heroes loyalties lie? In what order? His Family, Dakana, those under his protection. though he'd probably say it was the opposite if asked. 13. Does your hero have a lover or partner? How do they feel about the hero now? He does not. 14. Does your hero have a family? What is the relationship there like? He is the scion of the Royal family of Dakana and the lineage of the White Lion(ness). He loves his parents though is trying to remain out from under their considerable shadow. His sister he shares a special bond with though as teens both prefer not to speak of it. He knows absolutly he can rely on her as she can rely on him even if they don't see 100% eye to eye. 15. How would the people closest to your hero describe him or her? Reserved and thoughtful, almost hesitant but driven to excellence. 16. Is your hero a role model? He hopes to be and certainly tries to live up to the responsibility of such. 17. How spiritual is your hero? Does your hero follow a religious tradition? He follows a sort of traditional ancestor worship based on his lineage and a broader spiritual belief similar to a gaian philosophy of holistic stewardship of nature and other people. 18. Is your hero part of a team, or would he/she like to be? Why? Kam is officially a member of hte Royal guard though that is primarily an honorific rank. HE is also part of Claremont and soon to be assigned to an action group there for training purposes. He's eager to work with others and build such a group into a smoothly operating team. 19. How does your hero feel about the place of metahumans and aliens on Earth? Those that are weak need to be protected, those that are strong should do hte protecting, those that try to harm their fellows or humanity need to be stopped. 20. If you could give one piece of advice to your hero, what would it be? Think of the world and it's people more complexly. Not everything can be reduced to a zero sum game and there is not always a right answer.

Gang Captain gets a 17 Gang members out front do less well 1 the gang members backing up the captain freeze up at the figure emerging from the rain/diner and are dazed for the round effectively. Gang Captain is going to pull the wedge my foot in thing. KD make a ref save to beat him to the punch (DC 15) or you can just try to slam it on his foot and hurt him and I'll make his toughness save. Around this time the guys will get in the back and I think we're in combat. So initiatives. Captain 15 gang members 20 (Must be the speed)

Kam perhaps did not understand the meaning of fashionably late. Or more likely a life of strictly regulated timing of events who's delay could cause national and international incident led to a certain promptness. None the less he arrived at precisely the time indicated. He paid the cab in cash and pulled his bag over one shoulder as he turned to enter the estate and alert the staff to his arrival. When the young Dakanan was shown to the beach he strolled casually down the pier sandals lightly slapping on the timbers as he walked. A loose fitting pair of athletic pants in a deep navy over his swimwear and a dusky grey sleeveless compression shirt topping it off was little coverage against the mild breezy day but he seemed unbothered despite his concerns in the planning that he was more accustomed to the dakanan heat than a new jersey fall. He waved to Veronica and Prudence as he approach seemingly unbothered by being the first to arrive. "Thank you for arranging this I'm certain it will be a delightful afternoon." he greeted when within conversational distance. He looked out over the bay in appreciation. it was quite the view and a far cry from event he princely vistas of his homeland. Dakana was full of natural wonder to be sure but nothing on the sheer scale of the sea certainly.

The assailants attention was pretty firmly placed on the church and it's occupants. They seemed unconcerned about witnesses in the diner or at least confident none would come forward that they couldn't get too. Though some shivered in the sudden chill as dark forces moved through the night they remained unaware of the greater events building in the rain slick streets, and equally clueless of the danger they were now in. The girl stared wide eyed at the Priest and nodded with a whispered thanks before following his instructions to dodge back into the appointed alcove luckily looking down and not taking note of the monster on the ceiling. There she cowered trying to be quiet and as small as possible while still peeking out to make sure the priest didn't sell her out and leave her trapped. At the back door the pair of thugs were already setting to work on the locks. Mr. Strix keen ears could make out the tell tale scratch clink of the tumblers being clumsy manipulated. They may not get in soon but they'd get in before the girl could get anywhere to safety for certain. At the front the thug smiled menacingly. "Listen man, I think she ran in here." he glared at the obstinate man of god, "You trying to hide her?" he sneered with a shake of his head, "You one-a them kinda priests then?" he grinned with a conspiratorial nod, "We can work something out we just need talk to her when you done yea?"

Ace quirked a smile at Jacks response, "Don't mock your elders." he retorted back with an easy laugh. He brightened at the clear joy in Janus' movement as they realized he'd not been mistaken about Eriks skills. It warmed his heart to see her come a bit out of her mope at least. And as a side benefit made it much less likely she'd go find a war to fight in like he had in his moody youth. He watched the give and take of the attack and dodge with genuine interest as well. He knew enough of both styles and their skills to see the dance for what it was even if he was not so sure of the steps himself. Made it all the more exciting really. "Ah Talya does have a standing request we not harm the ah, family jewels?" he suggested as they mentioned the knees and elbows that had thusly laid low the last teacher. Not that Erik was likely under such threat but of the two he was more concerned with Talyas upset really.

1) The girl ran into the church which is handily across the street from the diner. The gangbangers have basically surrounded the church and one is approaching the front door to try to talk his way in two are around the back possibly intending to break in and grab her. The rest have taken up positions with good sightlines in groups of two 2) You can make the check when it feels appropriate to you. this stretch is basically happening in a church so I gave you teh HP to deal with the assorted symbols you'll run into in the process. You can certainly approach but you can decide if "Holy ground" aplies or not till you see the crucifix on the wall inside. None of the npcs will notice you. they're not trying and don't have a good chance anyway.

And we're off! IC OOC
-
OOC for this Street is basically clear and the staff of the diner has found reasons to be back in the stockroom and kitchen with loud music playing. All the exits are in view of at least one of the gang members there are eight, nine including the leader. Judex and Mr. Strix both get an HP for their complications being pinged (with the church and secret Id and religious iconography and all that. A reminder for later, you can spend and HP for inspiration/minor changes to the environment for thematic effect (handily placed skylight, clues of where to look next etc) in case things bog down when we get to the investigation portion.

Bedlam First Assembly 9PM October 30th 2018 Light Rain Dr. Thorne sat nursing their drink at the dinner where their prospective, client? informant? had requested to meet. The girl had sounded scared, genuinely scared, but determined and thought the PI might just be able to get what she knew to the right kind of cops. Outside in the spotty glow of failing streetlights the occult investigator could make out the knot of hardened looking young men paying a bit too much attention to the diner. Perhaps looking for victims, perhaps trying to screw up the courage to knock over a place under the protection of one of the families. Mr. Strix had stalked, followed, the group after he'd seen the handoff of clean and disposable guns in an ally a few blocks away. They had kept to the better traveled streets not giving him alot of room to find out more but that kind of hardware was not the sort of thing for a casual carry. They intended to use it. Pastor Theo set the last of the chairs up on the table in the churches small community room. The last of the NA attendees were vanishing into the cloud of cigarette smoke that lingered outside every meeting of this sort. Event he chill rain wouldn't stop them, though one supposed it was mostly better than the less legitimate vices they were trying to kick with varying degrees of success. It was like the weather. I night that seemed to be holding it's breath. Not quite still but with an air of something to come. And then it did, in a flash of dirty scarves and worn sneakers the girl spotted the gangbangers ont eh corner and bolted nearly knocking more than one off balance junkie off their feet as she sprinted for the closest thing to sanctuary in a town like Bedlam. A church. Most of the gangs were just superstitious enough not to try anything in a house of god, most of them. Across the street Thorne and Strix saw the gang member move into action the jumpier one flashing enough of his new iron to have the junkies and other patrons clearing out before they became victims, or worse witnesses. While a pair headed around the back and a couple fanned out to watch the street in each direction just in case the apparent leader approached the door grinning through a mouthful of fake gold. "Eh man, you see my sister eh?" he snickered not even trying to hide the lie, "She need get home real quick momma gonna be worried where she get to."

After his initial commentary Kam let the others speak observing the interplay with quiet interest and noting some more, spirited, discussions at other tables with quiet interest. "I believe structuring it around powers is a method to both obscure and make more relatable the issue of such catalogues." he pointed out with care, "Were one to pass statute of registration based on creed or other ephemeral tribalisms I think the answer becomes much more clear morally." he let out a slow sigh and focused for a moment once more, "Taking the longer view were one to state those fo a certain faith were a risk because they held to the teachings and laws of a church before secular authority it is clear such would be immoral." Laying his hands flat on the table he let out a slow breath "Or those considered culturally backwards and violent by the prevailing powers." that was a delicate issue for one of his his national identity and fraught. Trying to move past the dark implications of his previous statement he focused laser line on the question as asked, "The question is how one reacts to an unjust law really, and for that the only moral choice is to use what power and sway you have to see it undone." he nodded having reiterated his point. He flashed a winning smile to Veronic at her question and replied eagerly, "I am in fact counting on it." He looked then down at the handout and the next question as judy tried to move her own group on to less contentious ground, though given the subject matter that seemed unlikely. "Are we ready to move on to the question of identity exposure and how one might address such a threat?"

Studying the suddenly morose turn in his roomate for a moment Kam offered a gentle smile, "It is not easy to be far from home, and far from what you know." he offered comfortingly. "But I think in time you will discover the nuance to the people here while different is still just as varied." he assured the other teen. He raised a brow at the mentions of teams, "I am not sure if I'll be participating in any but the casual nature." he replied with a small shrug and easy smile, "I enjoy a match now and then though." he admitted with a smile, "I usually focus on more solitary sporting endeavors." because intramural sports were not as easy to arrange when a royal retinue became involved. "Gymnastics, track and field, though I admit not being a match to my si-imilarly enthusiastic brethren at the team sports." he corrected mid sentence somewhat awkwardly, "So American football or the more global phenomenon?" he added quickly hoping to glide over the misspoke words.

Single Pale hero seeks 1-2 companions for bashing some heads and tracking down some baddies. Not necessarily in that order. I'm going to be running a Bedlam thread for Grumbfloof and have room for 1-2 more nocturnal types. PL 8-9 preferably and we want to keep it going at a reasonable pace so able to post roughly once a day, if you lag too much we'll move forward whilst navel contemplation continues in the corner. Will be a little beat-em up and a little investigation into deeper troubles (Then probably ALOT of beatem up) Lemme know if interested.

"Ah a wealth of options present themselves then." Kam replied diplomatically. He smiled at what he seemed to assume was a jest from Corinne and Selena, "Well one has to liven up events somehow I imagine." he played along readily. Micah did not seem entirely comfortable discussing his lack of skills so the Dakanan quickly picked up the other thread of conversation. "Indeed. There are electives as well as more specialized courses of study depending on one's talents." he was quick to assure the fellow student in a tone that suggested a section of the student handbook committed to memory. "Access is also granted on a limited basis for extracurricular interests." he was quick to add. He shrugged slightly, "Also metalworking and machining if you had interest in more custom creations." he paused thoughtfully, "Do you have a vehicle of your own?" he asked curiously not sure what the Micah might hope to work on, "I understand project automobiles are quite the labor of love."

Kam looked between Lulu and Abigail thoughtfully for a moment, "Setting aside for the moment the logistics and specifics of such an act of governance." he slowly replied, "To focus on the ethical question at the root would be the question of when a person has the moral right or duty to stand against a law they perceive as unjust yes?" he questioned curiously. He glanced to Micah with a small nod, "The law may be unjust, many here have been historically." he agreed readily, "I think the question is less as to if such a law ever could be just and more to the point of what does a person of honor do when confronted by a law that is unjust." He thought for a moment longer, "Civil disobedience certainly has it's place, and the most effective way under current US statute to undo such a thing would be to refuse and publically that you may gain standing to challenge the law in court." he finally settled upon looking to the others for thoughts. "To merely refuse and hide would be impossible for those with obvious powers leading to further injustice while only the physically changed or detectable powers are forced under the yoke of such a statute." he shook his head sorrowfully, "No it is the responsibility of those with power to use it for the betterment of all."

With a lazy shrug Ace replied, "I never claimed to be one of the good ones." the old man in a young mans body did manage to leave the 'son' implied and not vocalized at least. He was also not great at taking his own advice about not antagonizing the best chance at instruction the younger Danger had in this realm. "Thank me for bringing her to you not for her skills those you'll hone." ah a blade pun, when in Rome and all that. Ace returned Janus look with one of indifference and a slight gesture toward erik. Even if she did manage to hurt the swordsman Ace was confident they could patch him up before talya or Willow could arrive and complain, "Just make sure any scars you leave are of the dashing variety." he suggested simply. He watched as she settled into her stance and began her attack with interest curious to see how she'd fair in such a contest.

Suppressing the urge to look around at the murmurs still resounding after the assembly propper clearyl was starting Kam carefully observed the Headmistress reaction the minor disobedience, noting the look aimed at the noisy students and filing it for further analysis at a later date. his Eyes narrowed at the commentary of at least he and his sisters standing at home, and apparently other students, which really shouldn't have been a surprise. Releasing a slow breath he pondered the meaning behind the woman's words and assumed she did not realize the strictures he and his at least lived under were by and large more restrictive most times than those the school enacted. He waited patiently for any elaboration on the policy though already began formulating a plan to allow for extracurriculars without perhaps violating the rules as laid out. Time would tell.

Kam glanced to Janus opening his mouth to explain but was beaten toth e punch by the attendee herself who clearly had the better understanding of the institution regardless. "It is an academy of the performing arts, music, acting," he nodded to Corrine, "Dance." he elaborated easily. "Quite prestigious." he was sure to add not wanting to short sell the achievement inadvertently. He suppressed a wince at Corrine's trick, knowing her dance ambitions the risks of such behavior showed either great confidence in her ability or a certain foolhardy bravery. Though she was successful so one hoped the former. At Micahs admission he glanced skyward for a moment as it felt as if there had been a shift in the wind but he quickly dismissed it turning back to the fellow student, "Well as my instructors back home would say that just means you've not learned any bad habits yet."

Kam smiled lightly at his new roommates grandiloquent manner. "Indeed." he agreed readily, "Janus Danger suggested we work together on some of the combat arts." he explained with a shrug, "I imagine both they and their cousin are accustomed a more physical regime than standard here." he opined with a shrug as he finished stowing the last of his supplies in his desk and moved on to unpacking the large parcel on the bed. He glanced with a small laugh at Dio's commentary, "The mind must live in the body, if one fails the other is soon to follow." he pointed out in what sounded like an awkwardly translated parable perhaps. "I'm sure he has not but your best interests at heart in his efforts." the dakanan suggested with quick wink to the dragon. Turning back to his own decorating he pulled a neatly folded and laminated map of the city and began affixing it to the wall followed by a paired whiteboard board and corkboard at this time both clean and empty. Finally from the depths of the box he pulled a large colorful bundle of a brightly patterned duvet win rich reds and deep purples. Laying it out across the bed with a flick of his wrists he smoothed it with a slightly neurotic attention to detail before retreating to his desk once more and pulling his laptop and the small collection of orientation materials from his bag and setting them on the otherwise bare surface in a neat pile pulling the top sheet to begin cataloging the state of the room upon their move in.

Kam perked a brow at the 'dragon' introduction bt he did not come to Freedom nor Claremont expecting the simple life. "A pleasure Dio." he greeted as well now that it was clear the creature was capable of communication. Glancing at his own side of the room he smiled wide, "Ah yes well I had to pack light for the plane." he lied readily. In truth his parents had wanted to send both he and his sister with all the comforts of home. Which most certainly would not have fit in the dorm rooms confines. "I should unpack though you are not wrong." he readily admitted. Slinging his messenger bag to over the back of his desk chair he shook his head in reply, "I can't say that I have but they sound most evocative." he replied and hefted his case onto the bed to pop it open and begin neatly stowing the contents in the wardrobe and drawers with practiced efficiency. "I have heard the Gym here is very well apportioned." the prince explained between filing drawers. "I'd be happy to have a workout partner, I met another student on the way up with similar interests. I imagine they'll be happy to join as well."

As the headmistress began to speak Kam watched her mannerisms with a studious eye comparing perhaps to his own parents subconsciously as he tried to read how she commanded hte room with such apparent ease. He was after all here to learn, and if reputation was to be believed she was the best. The threat certainly established the power dynamic and was suggestive of the age and maturity differential. Calling upon the ingrained urges to obey the older generation and to appear more adult at once, a good technique if more difficult to apply without the benefit of years. Most importantly it worked given the rapid settling of the formerly raucous student body. What followed tied too neatly into that paradigm not to have been rehearsed, down to the glow of pride, she was good certainly. Not the captivating presence of a Danger or regal bearing of his father. But a carefully executed persona, to elicit the response desired. The only question was the why, if the oncoming, he guessed curfew, had been decided it was only tangentially intended to actually keep them from leaving the grounds. To many it would be a more challenge than rule ot be obeyed, himself included if he was honest. Under his breath he muttered in frustration, "I did not come all this way to live in a sheltered bubble of privilege."
-
Smiling agreement with Janus Kam nodded, "Yes I for one am not accustomed to the cooler climate." he laughed lightly with a sheepish shrug. "The beaches of Freedom are fairly famous." he'd note in reply to Micah, "Though the Atlantic tends to run cooler overall." he added before looking to Corrine with genuine appreciation at the feat. "No small task for even one without so impacted a schedule." he praised honestly. "I lack such devotion." he admitted, "But I do well enough to enjoy myself." he admitted readily. "I'd assume stripped blocks rather than assembled power plants." the Dakanan suggested at the engine juggling, "A good size American V8 would likely even handle a drop or two if not too fatigued." he paused having perhaps derailed a bit and shrugged, "Erm so I'd imagine."

Kamerons portion of the room for the moment remained untouched. The large rolling case he pulled behind him still held most of what he'd brought to the school the remainder having been shipped and sitting a few boxes on the bed. Letting himself in the hidden prince scanned the room with a steady eye taking in the ostentatious dress of his roommate and the large reptilian he apparently kept as a pet if the disclosure and release form about reptile related phobias and allergies had been any clue. He'd expected an iguana perhaps or maybe a roomate with a reptilian appearance himself. This was unexpected, which drew a small smile from the boys lips, surprise was unusual for the Dakanan royal and welcome. He widened his smile in perhaps overcompensation for his normally reserved demeanor, or perhaps playing into stereotypes though his fellow student did not appear to be from around here. "You must be Leroy." he greeted warmly and extended his free hand, "I'm Kameron." he laughed lightly as he'd let himself in, "Obviously." He took in the decorating in progress with casual interest as he tried to place the artifacts and style with some curiosity. "So long trip?" he asked casually, "It was a lengthy flight but smooth myself." he offered conversationally as he shut the door behind himself and began to examine his space opening the wardrobe and drawers to map out where he'd stow his possessions.
