  3. Rivers of Blood, a Rain (or in this case perhaps Reign?) of Frogs, Flies, Sickness, Boils, Storms of Thunder and Ice, a plague of Locusts, and a Darkness that blocked out the sun. One didn't need to be a theologian to know what came next, nor a person of faith to know this was no act of God wrathful or otherwise. Clues found or hunted down by Erins 'Sister', Chris, Or Mark where they had fought the terrors worldwide, Interrogations by Joe, Nina, Alex, or Trevors young not quite protege, it had all finally added up. These terrible acts were those of a man, a man empowered perhaps by dark pacts and sinister purpose but a man, and with evil intent. August Roman, once lord of a criminal empire, now bargaining the scraps of his damned soul to make his mark once more on a world that had left him behind. Everyone knew what came next, the curse that had broken the will of, and put the fear of God into, Pharaoh. The death of the first born. He didn't know where or how Roman would strike, only that he was not going to stand idly by or cower in fear. Mike donned the White, Gold, and Blue of Phalanx and rose to the skies high above freedom city. Looking out at the city sprawled below he hovered miles overhead and for the first time really listened and watched letting his hyper acute vision and hearing blanket the city, seeing every fearful parent putting on a brave face as they tucked a child in for what they knew may be the last time, sitting wakeful watch, or gathered to spend what they feared to be too short a time together before the next 'Plague' came, listening to the prayers of the faithful, the tearful goodbyes of lovers uncertain how long they had, he watched families gather and celebrate in the face of fear or cower their courage already spent in the horrors that had come before. Heroes around the city, preparing, searching, or simply waiting he saw and heard it all but none of it was what he sought. High above Phalanx watched, listened, and waited for Roman to make his move.

  5. Rolling broad shoulders if a slow shrug Mike agreed. He wasn't really averse to attaching his name to the discussion but the aliens methodology was not particularly his concern. The directed question earned a thoughtful pause from the tall youth before he further explained, "Well Dakana is not truly closed off, they trade, they engage diplomatically." he offered frankly, "This has increased their wealth and power on the international level as they have resources the world desires and technologies that find market abroad." he elaborated and continued with the understanding of global economics hard won by a quarter of topical coursework in an elective. "They hold the power to control how much and when such bounties are released and thus control the supply in full, a monopoly that grants them economic power." he stated flatly, "Further opening on their own terms would serve only to expand that influence." he said plainly and looked to the other humans gathered, "Like OPEC, with such control of oil supplies." he offered for comparison. "On the other hand if forced by an outside power you have a situation more in keeping with colonial india or meiji Japan." Mike offered with a nod, "Those nations that open the markets through force are then able to harness the benefits rather than the opened nation itself." he paused and considered once more the question as it applied to the collectivist ideologies espoused earlier, "Now such expansion in available technology and resources eventually lead to overall improvements in the average citizen's quality of life certainly, however the distribution of finite resources requires some mechanism." he shrugged once more, "Markets are the prevalent form and to change that quickly one would have to weigh the costs of such drastic social upheaval vs. the benefits of a perhaps more equitable sharing, though without a truly collective intelligence managing the distribution potential for abuse is high as in state controlled economies like China or the old soviet model." Mike shook his head finally however and realized he too was sidetracked from the real discussion. "People far brighter than me have been debating these ideals for centuries and reached no meaningful conclusions." he pointed out and smiled at the other humans as he listened to their input on the matter of the exceptionals as they had been dubbed. "The flaw in your thinking is the assumption that exceptionals are somehow other than human." he argued carefully, "I mean other than the ones who are of course." as there were a fair share of aliens, extra-dimensional entities, robots, and more esoteric forms of sentience that certainly qualified. "It's not what a person can do it's what they actually do." he stated firmly. "A person driven by circumstance or nature to crime or any immorality really is going to do so regardless of their personal capabilities." he looked to the alien hoping he understood, "Likewise a person with the will to do good will find a way to do so, won't be able to do otherwise really, in keeping with their own abilities." pausing once more he gathered his thoughts, "Exceptionals may get more attention, even adulation, which means they have more than anything an opportunity to lead my example. To show people with or without powers that people of good character can make a difference, it's aspirational really."

  7. Ace rolled his eyes, "HE's not done anything since then beside possibly abandon his kid to be brutalized by state violence to prove a point." the immortal countered with the casual blasphemy only an immortal who had fought alongside and against god angel and demon alike in his long career. "Empowered then and finding out who is most likely to come from asking not so nicely of our songbird with attitude once her wings are clipped." Ace suggested with a nonchalant shrug as he dug out his cell phone and listened to powers drone on about social media feeds and weather satellite analysis with a shake of his head, "You of all peoples director should know not everything can be replaced by computers, had AEGIS really forgotten how to be spies?" he asked with an amused laugh and stepped toward the door, "Well Tornadoes do have a way of getting attention I suppose so shall we?" he asked and looked for direction to whatever AEGIS transport was doubtless standing by. As they headed for the scene of the most prominent chaos he made several calls and some rather outrageous promises or cashed in even more outlandish favors, one would think there would have been a very special episode of Ace Danger International Man of Mystery where he covered for the Bad Brains drummer after bad sushi but the ex-manager was plugged into the current hardcore scene enough to give him a lead to trace down. Finally hanging up he looked to his fellow 'agents' and smiled, "She checked into a hotel in Petworth last night and didn't leave by visible means, though is not in the room." he offered frankly, "teleportation is out unless it's very localized or she'd not even need to be spotted in the city." he suggested and mashed at whatever console the transport had to pop up delightfully blue green projection maps, "That means she's in some travel radius of the hotel still maybe that'll help the eggheads look past the piccosos and get us on the monet."
  8. So not sure what good it'll do but it's worth the minute particularly if he can do it on the way to tornado alley. Use contacts to make a gather information to find the criminal in question or a lead to her whereabouts. That'll take a minute and he'll hit a DC 30 with skill mastery

  10. I think for Gadgets the easiest way to handle that is just to buy enhanced skill +1 or +2 dependant on gadget ranks (house rule no more ranks of skills or feats than ranks of gadgets IIRC) with masterwork tools as the descriptor. Otherwise you're getting into the thing of equipment within not only a VP but a VP already getting the device discount when equipment is discounted for being easily taken away by the GM. Alternatively you could Build it with a complication of losing a point or two of related skills when his gadgets are taken away representing the loss of high end tools and having to improvise? Though that is a bit like not having improvised tools so yea...
  11. Mike had been sitting studying for an upcoming developmental psych test when the conversations out front began. He'd only been half paying attention his nose in his book but the swing in topics attracted his attention his sensitive hearing picking of the rise and fall of the conversation. It had of course taken him a minute to gather his books and return the cold half cup of hot cocoa to the dirty bin before he approached the table and looked over the small gathering discussing Humanities many feats and failings. "Historically those who benefit most from the opening of borders are those who choose to open them." He offered easily for their consideration, "Should Dakana open itself to exports of its technologies they and thier chosen partners would grow wealthy, were a nation to manage to force open the borders of New Freedom the benefits would first flow to the nation in question." He paused and held out a hand, "Mike Harris." he introduced himself confidently, "I'm a student so perhaps not so expert as others but I think there is more to the question really." he paused and looked to his left and right at the others, "We achieve most when we strive to overcome those baser urges to put our fellow man ahead of ourselves not thinking of the benefits for ourselves or humanity at large but simply doing our best every day to do what we can for each other." Naive? perhaps. But heartfelt to be sure.
  12. Nodding agreement with Frost Sandman spoke softly, "What happens now is your choice." he intoned carefully folding his hands neatly in front of himself, "We can help you control the fires within or find those who can." he assured confidently and flicked a glance to Fleur and her unanswered question, "If you can tell us what you remember we might be able to better tell how your powers work." he prompted carefully. He not for the first time wished his grasp of the supernatural was better as such powers given the environs of her awakening seemed likely to be mystically inspired at the least. A volcanic hawaiian mutant seemed too coincidental for belief after all. Edging closer to Fluer he whispered quietly, "Can we locate her surviving family?" he was uncertain of the powers and resources at their disposal for such things his own capabilities were of little aid in such matters.
  13. Anyone else want to hit this before me?
  14. Standing as Echo caught the fainting boy Sandman turned a rueful gaze to the gathered heroes, "All of the above." he intoned quietly in response to the question. He had no doubt now the child psychics dreams were made manifest within the school. "There are few surer portals to our world from dream than the mind of a child," he paused as he looked up at the over run school, "The same unfortunately holds true for nightmares." the dream guardian spoke sternly and nodded as he began to step toward the school, "We'll have to defeat the dreams and nightmares to reach her." he explained, "And then hope we can wake her without harm, get her the help she needs."

  17. Huang emerged from his final class to pull his shades down over sensitive eyes and glare at the scorching line where the buildings shade came to an end. His grumpy gaze swept out over the quad lightening slightly despite the glare as the end of hte week and the promise of a weekend misspent sunk in. He outright grinned a toothy smile when he caught sight of her across the quad despite the glowering chaperone at her side. He struck out across the sun lit lawn and squinted against the glare then eased his grimace as the suns glow ebbed. Breathing a sigh of relief as he stood before Set and leaned in for a mostly chaste kiss, "You know you make everything a little better." he whispered quietly as the sun seemed a little less bright with the god at hand. Then he glanced up and looked to Sekhmet to shake his head, "That so isn't me." he assured then hopefully inquired, "A special present for our weekend?" he asked the ancient god of the hidden darkness knowing full well the devouring darkness was instead Sets eternal foe.
  18. Still grumbling about the hidden foe ruining a perfectly pithy opener Ace retreated to the drier environs of the building once more in time to here the all to familiar call for extranormal operatives, "Well that's my cue sunshine." he said with a wink to the cute receptionist and jogged off to the appointed room to listen to the details of the top suspect in the apparent attack. "Morning Jackie boy." he greeted with a smile that didn't reach his eyes, "It's been awhile." Ace added as he slumped into a seat, "Shall we talk about the weather?" he asked with a wry smile and leaned back in his chair balancing on the back legs while he listened to the revelations, "So has she always had powers and hid them or become empowered by some entity with poor taste in music and an agenda of having even less fun than most grand entities?"
  19. GM Post The General sighed and shrugged his shoulders slightly, "I know Ace's powers of longevity are impressive." he stated with a nod to the group, "But there was no body that we could locate." he intoned quietly and sighed, "He led the squad into the crystalline matrix to destroy the mindforce that had inhabited the steamworks command and control." The general offered with a shrug, "Insisted on setting off his sonic device himself." The general leaned back and drummed his fingers on the table, "There are a few of the stronger more autonomous units of hte steamworks forces still prowling the ruins." he considered carefully, "We might be able to assemble a team to try and recover what remains but..." He trialed off the cost would be high for such an endeavor with little evidence Ace was there at all. The old man eyed his son carefully, "A family matter you say? The Dangers were kind to me in my stay on your world, I would not pry but if it is not too private a matter." he inquired with care looking to Erik with a raised brow. Throughout the son shifted uncomfortably in his seat avoiding his fathers gaze some resentment hidden still but growing more evident as the conversation wended past Aces sacrifice.
  20. "Progression is too fast." Ellis intoned as he ushered the most contaminated patients to closed off exam bays. There was something unnatural here and the singsong voice over the PA only confirmed it. "Prophylactic antibiotics for the staff and non-infected." he ordered the intern knowing the supplies here were going to be in short supply to start with and likely already strained just with the flu outbreak and over prescription. Looking at the PA speaker he narrowed his eyes, "I'll see if I can round up more and maybe get through to administration but we may be on security lock down keep them calm for now. With that Ellis rushed into the crowd toward a storage closet nominally to seek out the meds in question but moreover to adopt his Sandman persona and teleport to the lobby and see if he could find out more of what had happened.
  21. GM Post The soldiers shot affronted looks to Bombshells glib reaction though the captain smirked slightly at the somewhat gallows humor. "Mr. Danger sacrificed much for us in the war." he offered with some reservations, "The General has had his doubts but the common soldiers see him as a hero for his sacrifice, it makes all of theirs easier to bear." he explained glancing to his men with a proud smile, "No he refused to take a commission of any kind even when offered by the Sultan himself." The soldiers seemed satisfied the strangers were no threat and focused instead on their safe escort to the city center. The signs of battle only seemed to intensify as they wound their way toward the sounds of celebration and the cracked and broken spires of the palace. Those who had seen siege before saw the signs, the outskirts had been given over to the enemy either by surprise or to withdraw to more important and defensible positions. Here near the heart of hte city is where the battle was bloodiest. Passing a final checkpoint the Captain dismissed his men and nodded, "Come I will take you to my- General." he intoned quickly and striding with purpose toward the palace. Along the way makeshift hospitals still treated the wounded and recovering though it had been at the least days since the fighting had stopped it seemed. Down wider streets glimpses of celebratory parade of street fair or some combination could be glimpsed, it lacked the discipline of sanctioned events more likely spontaneous revelry in the end of the fighting. Several more checkpoints were passed with a few words from the Captain who seemed to rank higher than his rank would normally dictate though he remained taciturn and said little about how he brought with him beyond assurances he vouched for them. Soon they were shown into a small antechamber, a waiting room of sorts with tables and refreshments laid out. The captain announced with a bow, "The General will see you shortly." and hurried for the door clearly not wishing to see the General himself. Before he could however a side door opened and an elderly gentleman with a familiar cast of features, mostly through the flowing mustache, stepped into the room, "If I had know a breach in space and time was all it would take to get my son to visit I'd have arranged it by now." he joked and nodded for the young captain to join them. "Apologies friends." the General intoned and motioned for them to have as eat as well before settling with a sigh into his own seat. "I am General Izz al Din." he looked to his son then back to them questioningly, "You are looking for Ace Danger?" He clarified cautiously, "Mr. Danger gave the greatest sacrifice in our recent struggles." He explained cagily.
  22. Sandman recoiled automatically as Tiamat revealed what had been lost to the poor girl he at the least felt vindicated in ensuring this conversation happened in the relative safety of Sanctuary rather than the islands that may well have been the source of her power. Almost reflexively the ephemeral sands around him whipped up defensively as if with a mind of their own as he shied away from the white hot intensity of the girls sorrow. He looked from one league member to another uncertain what more they could offer the girl without knowing more of who she was yet refrained from pressing for more information, "Your powers are tied to your emotions." he offered quietly, "When angry, upset, or, frightened." he tried to explain, "They more readily answer your call." He took a small step forward, "Breath deep, even just go through the motions and count backwards from ten." he offered hopefully it was a rudimentary calming exercise but a useful one. Until they had a more sure read of her powers it seemed the best they could hope was to keep her calm.
  23. "Ah well here's the problem then Mr. Danger." the smiling bureaucrat across the desk said helpfully, "According to our records you are... uhm dead?" Ace sighed heavily it wasn't like he needed or wanted the pension. However the spiderweb of integrated systems access that AEGIS achieved int eh internet age meant that state was being referenced out to many places he did care about, "Yes I know that's why I'm -" the booming voice outside interrupted him and he turned with a shake of his head, "Rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated." he noted as he rolled his hat back atop his head and strode for the front doors. As the rain and hail beat down Ace peared up from under the brim of his trademark fedora and smiled, "Well now aren't you just a little ray of sunshine!" he yelled up at the sky "Maybe you are confused but this building is actually LEEDs certified, hardly pollutes at all and if there is one place in this town free of perversion it's in there." he jerked a thumb in the buildings direction, "Theses are not the dashing field agents of yore, these are the budget analysts that complain every time they use one too many lipstick grenades or watch lasers." he bellowed into the storm. "Good thing for you too or else you might be dealing with real agents rather than us paper pushers." he said with a smile as he continued his distracting diatribe, "The real deal should be here, any, minute, -" Ace looked around the empty skyscape as hail pelted down, "Well that is not even fair that was a good line too." he groused as he notices the voice was not so present as he had anticipated.
  24. Sandman let out a slow breath as the lava woman crumpled and a slight double take as her human form was revealed. That certainly answered that question at least. He moved forward to meet Frost as the thermal vampire as he hoisted the girl into his arms glancing to Fluer, "To dangerous to reveal how much she's missed here." he offered as explanation albeit weak. He followed closely with Frost as the portal through the green opened to carry them to sanctuary kneeling near the girl's head as she was laid down. As the rest of the league made their way through the portal he quickly checked her vitals, "All normal." he offered quietly and stood taking a step back prepared to put her under again if things started to go out of control. Withdrawing his power the fog of sleep would be lifted from the volcanic young woman.
  25. "Canterbury Manor." Ace considered aloud as he looked to the flocks covering the spacious grounds, "There may be some that call them enemy certainly few of wealth and privilege get that way well liked by all." he said with a sardonic smirk. He however shook his head, "But they are not attacking, they are roosting." he frowned slightly, "The leader of this Fowl Plot lies within." he assured them and looked to the assemblage, "They'll attack as soon as we approach, indoors will be safer but not safe," he looked to his fellow heroes, "Have any of you a power ring to generate force fields or perhaps some kind of sonic repulsion device?" he asked completely straight faced as if these were the sorts of things one found in their pocket.
