  3. With a deep frown Huang nodded agreement with Raina on the odor, "Yea maybe see if captain stinkbomb has a shovel arrow or something." he groused crankily as he stared at his mothers strange prison. He turned toward the entrapped foes, eyes glinting red with the potency of his vampiric nature roused to anger. "I'm going to have a little chat with our new friends here." Stalking across the clearing to the downed mercenary he quickly and ungently divested the man of his high tech toys before he woke and cause more trouble. Standing to loom his full height over the entrapped underlings he growled low in his throat his voice dropping to a more gravely register. "Toss the weapons." he demanded coldly as he reached the side of the twisted cage and with a clenched fist slowly set the twisted obelisks of their prison tightening around them a looming threat of an unpleasant death by crushing impalement. "Now you are going to tell me who sent you." he rumbled his tone a gravelly homage to his own father's dark intonations. He had learned from the best after all, "And I might just decide not to leave you here to be picked apart by the scavengers."
  4. With a frown Huang opened his mouth to argue he wore less when swimming but realized the folly of getting into specifics, also that the state of his pants fastenings made that more questionable. Turning his back briefly because now modesty mattered, he zipped up and turned back to fix a determined if petulant gaze on the interlopers, "As for hiding and skulking about what else were we supposed to do?" he asked rhetorically, "Dad made it clear he was going to go all autocratic va-faaather on it." he said flatly barely catching himself in referring to Jack by his more or less formal title. He huffed testily and glanced to Sekhmet with a shrug his quarrel was not with her though she certainly wasn't managing to be high on his list of deities and higher powers. None the less he let both his commentary and her own wordplay lie for the time being. "See and no biting." He pointed out with gesture to Set then a frown and glance to the deity, "That, that was a one time thing I promise..." he stammered really derailing his whole righteous indignation train, "I know what to expect now." he promised with a small smile and nervously glanced to his mother, "Not that we were going to be... I mean," he laughed weakly, "Not something for a first real date right?"

  6. As the party moved inside Huang swung the doors shut with a murmured incantation and sweep of his hand turning to follow the rest of the teens into the house proper. This had the benefit of giving him an excellent view of the many fine derrieres on display in one fashion or another and he was fairly certain no one would be turned into a goat over looking, probably, Set seemed a level headed sort, mostly. He smiled to Robin and blinked in confusion, "Oh those? I dunno they've always been there, We could wiki it or something I guess but they're usually fixed up within a day or two of any birds getting caught in them." he noted with a shrug as they moved into the sitting room he'd had snacks laid out in. "Kitchens through there when you think the time is right." he told riley with a smile and a nod glancing back to Robin, "Oh yea the headstones are for the staff, they like to make sure they're kept nice." he suggested as if this was unsurprising, after all if you were among the restless dead you'd want your resting place well maintained right? Might as well have it close to where you worked. He eyed Phaedra with an easy smile, "He does have a point." he teased flirtily, "Then again there is something to be said for an angel with a little devil in her." he added saucily and gestured to the spread, "Have at, Est domus mea, domus tua." he invited warmly substituting Latin for the more traditional mi casa es su casa because he had yet to perfect his impression of humanity.

  9. Huang swung the big oak doors of the manse open to greet his guests aimlessly milling on the mansions front stoop. They of course creaked ominously as they rotated to reveal an interior that matched all expectations of the exterior full of dark woods and creepy ancient portraits and strange curios. Thier host himself stood arms wide in greeting draped in a pristine white toga probably not cut from his parents sheets only because those were all red black and purple satin. Perched atop his brow a filigreed crown of laurels, "Hey party people!" he greeted warmly and swept an arm towards the interior where faint strains of music only about a year out of date. Their host was fairly certain it was current it certainly sounded like what his parents young friends listened to when he was growing up. He peered up at the trail of magic let by Rainas circling broom and nodded to the assembled guests, "Looking good." he praised easily to the group, "Drinks and food in the sitting room just past the foyer." he instructed and paused with the door open to await the young witches grand entrance.
  10. "Couldn't have just opened with that eh?" Huang grumbled though clearly he was impressed by the excellent shot from the tree line. In a flash of vampiric speed he interposed himself between the hunters and their trapped quarry and turned on them, "Right about now you're thinking of running." he fumed eyes glinting darkly with his display of power, "It's a good instinct," he taunted and tilted his head slightly, "Unfortunately it's already too late for that." "BY THE EVERLASTING ENIGMAS OF EIDOLON I BUILD YOUR PRISON!" He boomed voice carrying the syllabant resonance of the eldritch powers he called upon. With a violent raising of the young magi's arms a prison of otherworldly jet black stone erupted around the hapless bounty hunters trapping them within a nest of twisted obelisks stronger than steel.

  12. "Yes precisely Ms. Wie." their bubbly chaperone replied encouragingly, "It is very advanced for this locale but the exercises simulate a wide variety of hazards and threats though all are merely phantasms and carefully calibrated to ensure no lasting injury to trainees!" she exuberantly explained as she gestured to the drab grey walls. She quickly thumbed through the tablet with a sigh, "Uhg these individual assessments are so very dull might as well take test." she remarked and with an exaggerated wink to indicate conspiracy suggested, "I think we'll begin with the group exercise yes? Much more dynamic." she was quite pleased with the decision and her power to put it in action and tapped the tablet summoning forth a dismal foggy evening at the foot of a rather haunting looking establishment those familiar with the wider Freedom City area would recognize as Providence Asylum. As the simulator whirred to life a dark hooded figure recognizable as the Mysterious Raven crouched atop the gates, "I've traced the signal here and we can't raise the staff." she intoned darkly, "Whatever has triggered these riots is inside however and I have to get these protective devices to the rest of the league before they succumb as well." she exposited helpfully and looked back towards the ominus building, "I'm afraid it's up to you." and with that she was gone as if she had never been
  13. Huang shrugged, "Fast is all relative I suppose." he remarked carefully, "I'm just say at thirteen or thirty if someone hasn't seen anything outside their bubble they aren't going to be ready for whats next." He said with a nod as he plucked the last few staples from this board. He let the subject drop though now a remarkably politic move for the young Dhampir, "Costumes are all for fun so as long as you like it doesn't matter right?" he said with a shrug and the casual dismissal of fiscal woes only the wealthy could really manage. "My folks are usually out working for halloween," he offered with a commiserating nod, "and usually too worried about cu-uh-kidnappers to let me out of hte house." he said with a roll of his eyes, "So its usually pretty low key for me but dull so this should liven things up yea?" he suggested with a grin looking forward to the party and the relentless social dominance the works of John Hughes had taught him a rocking house party would guarantee.
  14. "Now that would be tragic." he joked lightly and stepped away to set the table in a blur returning as she finished fishing the slightly darker than intended pancakes from the pan. Their breakfast safe he turned her to face him fully and leaned in to press a gentle kiss to her lips as he whispered quietly, "I love you too, it's good to be home."
  15. "Yea we're still on." he said with a grin, "I have a few things lined up but mostly light weight stuff so bring yours too for when the party really kicks off yea?" he suggested with a pleased smile. "And we'll see who knows how to handle it then." he added with a conspiratorial grin. "It's not just the school though." he pointed out with a shake of his head, "I mean sure this place is better than some regular school on some things," Though Huang was pretty sure he'd get away with a damn sight more in a school where they didn't know he could turn to mist or invisible. "But it's everything about how they look at us." he said animatedly, "Like no matter how much we know or do they just see us like kids and can't get over it." he slowed down then not wanting to be too revelatory about his personal trials and tribulations after all it may well be different if ones parents had a chance to see you grow up to a teen and not just have you show up when they are still adjusting to five year old you.
  16. "This is true." Mike laughed, "Maybe I should start listening to them sometimes." he joked back and ran a hand through her hair as he held her to his chest, "I mean it." he said and thought at the same time in response to her gentle probes, "What kind of idiot tries to lie to their psychic fiance?" he pointed out jovially. Calming he looked down at her and smiled wide, "I do though." he said once more, "Because it isn't the same and I want that too." he said countering the fears he knew she had. "I like it here, with you." he said plainly, "And I may have needed the time away to recognize that which is kinda lame of me I admit." he added with a self deprecating laugh as he he rocked lightly on his heals and lifted her into a full hug so he could look her in the eye without looming and very seriously confirmed, "And missing pancakes is the real tragedy here I think we both know." with a playful smile before pulling her in for another kiss.
  17. Mike grinned at the revelation. He really should have known she'd think of it after all she thought of everything it was her blessing, sometimes curse he supposed. He considered telling her not to bother with more on his account but clearly she wanted to and also, well, Pancakes. It'd take a better man than him to turn down pancakes. He looked down at her words and slowly nodded, "I don't know." he murmured concern in his voice he didn't want to move to fast though even by his standards he knew four years into their engagement cohabitation wasn't 'fast' per se. He smiled over at her as she floated ingredients about the kitchen and smiled, he really liked this, it felt more right than anything he'd spent the past years doing really. "I do know I like this." he said more firmly, "And that I miss you." he admitted as he stood to pat up behind her on not so quiet feet and wrap his arms around her stooping to kiss the side of her neck as he gave her a gentle hug, "I think you are full of good ideas this morning." which sounded suspiciously like assent to move in.
  18. Summers gaze cut to Robin, "Your critique of your own assessment has been acknowledged Ms. Chevalier." Summers said firmly, "All appropriate actions have been taken." she finished clearly intending the matter be put to rest. Her tone was gentler for Winifred, "Ms. Wei," she intoned carefully, "We take every precaution for the safety of our students." her eyes flicked to Robin almost as if the message was as much for her before returning to fred, "You will find Changeling here is quite versatile when it comes to attending unusual situations." she added with a smile for the bubbly and friendly younger seeming girl. "The Training simulator is likewise well equipped to handling any manner of superhuman stresses." she guaranteed. "Ms. Cooper." Summers then said crisply, "You too will be tested." she smiled lightly eyes crinkling at the corners, "The assessment is for us to best facilitate your training and education." She offered as explanation, "Without knowing your skillset and abilities we can't see where your weakness lie nor how best to see to it they are not exploited nor endanger yourself or others." She said finally and gestured to Changling. The shapeshifter stood smiling, "All right girls lets go!" she said and marched to a bookshelf in summers office to rapidly tug a series faux books and reveal an elevator not unlike the one hidden in the tree Robin had used before to access the Doom Room. Leading them down the elevator and to the room itself she was effusive and friendly, "Don't worry about how you do it's just to get to know you better really." she said happily, "And these routines were designed by Mr. Archer and reviewd by S. Summers herself, you are quite lucky to get such personalized attention."
  19. "Am not." Mike protested as he stood to follow her towards the kitchen pausing to stretch in a manner that certainly could be considered teasing to the casual observer. He padded across the floor with a pleased smile on his lips as he couldn't argue this felt right in way things hadn't in quite some time. "Bottomless?" he called out in mock affront, "I'm not bottomless." he countered followed by a rumble from said engine of digestion that really invalidated any further argument. Mike looked at the sturdy chairs at the bartop counter and after a small poke to ascertain strength eased himself into one. He peered through cupboards and door of the fridge as he considered, I'm fine with cereal unless you want something more substantial. he replied blushing as the sweep of his gaze accidentally swept over her back before he had adjusted his vision not to penetrate lighter materials. Looking down as he tried to will the blush away he cleared his throat, "So this is really nice." he said and swallowed hard, "uhm, like not just the apartment, I mean it's nice too, but this is a nice morning." he tried to distract from his impropriety.
  20. Elis nodded agreement with the sentiment, "Beats moving relatives into the guest house for babysitting." the doctor added with a smirk as he watched erik work between pulling what he'd need for his own entry from the baskets and cooler. When the scintillating swordsman was finished he looked down at the dish and nodded approval, "Well that looks quite good actually." he complimented as he turned to the grill, "Hopefully I don't embarrass myself." he joked lightly, "I have been accused of not preparing peanut butter sandwiches correctly in recent memory." Elis lacked the flare and showmanship Erik had put into his dish certainly instead focusing on precision and control. After all they had plenty of time no reason to rush within the bubble. Starting with his vegetables and herbs he pre chopped his ingredients to size and whipped together a quick marinade of garlic pepper and olive oil to apply to the portobellos, as those absorbed some flavor he prepared a garlicy honey mustard glaze with a hint of worcester as he let the grill come back up to heat after the chicken had cooked. A quick coat of oil to preserve grill marks as he laid out the mushrooms and glazed them as they cooked before pulling them and adding just a dash more salt at the end. "My mother always used to say if you want to impress a lady cook her dinner." he joked lightly, "So I figured I'd work out one dish I could manage not to embarrass myself with and if I only had one it best be vegetarian yea?" he shrugged as he set the grilled mushroom burger to the side and gestured for the speedy major domo of the little competition to take to the grill.
  21. Mike's eye fluttered open as she poked at him his mind still a jumbled overlay of his most recent dreams and the reality of his fiance perched on top of him. There really were fewer dissonances on those realities than he would have anticipated. He peered at her blearily and tried to focus despite the all too wakeful voice in his head as well as the less ephemeral distractions of his situation, I, uh, well the couch is pretty comfortable actually. He countered though it was not much of an argument really. He reached up and wrapped his arms sleepily around her shoulders, You were sleeping. he pointed out as if that wasn't kinda hte point she was making in the first place. Mike leaned up and pulled her down to his chest as he pressed his lips to hers in a passionate kiss, I know. he agreed, I am and I appreciate you putting up with my ridiculous. he finished as the kiss broke and he met her eyes as his hand ran down her back slowly, "You're too good to me." he rumbled the noise vibrating in his chest as he broke the silence of the morning, "I'm a lucky man."
  22. Mike smiled down at her as she drifted off in his arms listening to her breathing fall into the slow rhythmic sounds of deep sleep as he read more tales of unlikely antics. Of course tags were not something he fully grasped until it was too late and he'd delved to far like the dwarves of moria (whom were involved in this particularly odd crossover). He set aside the tablet with a small shudder as he was no doctor but he was certain biology did not work that way here or in middle earth. He leaned back and laid a soothing hand against the side of Alex's face watching her lips curl into a sleepy smile at the touch before effortlessly standing cradling her in his arms. He carefully made his way to her room and layed her down carefully in the bed despite the vague hints of protest in her sleepy murmurings. Quickly pulling off his shirt he wrapped it around a spare pillow to tuck next to her and let her hold as she slept more peacefully now. After watching his fiance settle into deep sleep once more he crept back to the couch and laid out pulling the brief knit duvet over at least his upper torso before letting himself drift off as well.
  23. Mike shook his head, "Oh yea the other young freedom line ups." he replied more calmly, "I thought- Wait." he squinted down at the tablet before it powered down the screen as the relationship phrasing became clear and glanced to Alex in confusion, "But, I'm not gay." he questioned puzzling through this new information, "And Mark is like even more not gay." he added shaking his head to clear the memories of Marks many discussions of various ladies finer points. He shrugged willing to let it go he supposed if it made people happy it didn't bother him. However there were some things that were less passable narrative embellishments, "Almost never?" he asked clearly more upset at the thought of being misrepresented as villainous than at the creative license of soulful looks between him and Mark.
  24. Mike blinked and choked on his next breath as she pointed this out, "Wha?" he stuttered, "That's still around?" he asked mortified and buried his face against the top of her head where she lounged, "Oh my god I thought maybe a little past the year but.." He shook his head shocked, "Who would take the time to do that?" he asked rhetorically still stunned. Then he paused, "And people draw reproductions?" he wrinkled his nose, "The internet is strange." he finally declared wanting no more of that and settled in to watch the crusty fishermen get salty as the fish were light or heavy or whatever other reason they found to curse like a sailor which technically he supposed they were. Mike raised a brow after a long moment, "New hotness?"
  25. "Like Hell!" Ouroboros exclaimed as his mother ordered them to flee. He turned to face the ambushers eldritch power crackling around his hands, "Wrong party to cra-" He broke off as the smoke from Rileys bolt billowed out blinding ally and enemy alike, "What in the unspeakable realms of chaos are you doing?" he bellowed belligerently as he cast about trying to peer through the pungent fog with no success. "Sou Hai!" he rumbled looking through the gloom for Riley, "Sei yeem jai!" the dhampir screamed to the retreating voice of the classmate he was more and more certain was some kind of vampire hunter infiltrating the school to get at them. His grumbling curses were punctuated by booming calls of, "Moron!", and, "Fai chaai!", or "gua si gwai!" before trailing off into all the darkest things he'd heard his father utter in the ancient slavic tongues of his vampiric ancestry still finding no language to fully express his mood at the obscuring cloud and it's source.
