  1. Taylor returned the hug, laughing at Stesha's joke. She paused to shrug out of her jacket and drape it over the back of one chair before she dutifully headed over to the bar. Taylor didn't have to worry about the alchohol affecting her anymore than any other poison. "Just don't get me anything that tastes nasty." Taylor pleaded, "I've heard that alchohol tastes bad enough as is."
  2. "Can't wait," Taylor agreed as she pulled back from him, her smile flashing. "Honestly, it'll be fun no matter who all can show up. We all tend to get suddenly busy with little warning. Although, if we end up running into a mugger or two it'll be a bad night for them, won't it?" She sat back in her seat, fastening her belt for the short drive. It didn't take long to manuever the car from her parents house to the small bar that the super heroes were descending on tonight. Hopefully, with everyone in the civvies. Even that might prove a little problematic as a few of the guests were more than a little well known in Freedom City, but the bar was thankfully - and most likely deliberately - mostly empty except for their party. As far as places went, it was a nice place but out of the way enough that it was never all that popular. In addition to the traditional bar and ubiquitous pool table or two, there were several tables and in one corner a karaoke set taking up the far wall.
  3. Alex gave a little shrug, as she was never bothered by extra school work, "I'm always happy to help, Mr. Archer, although I'm not sure I'm the most qualified expert on A.I. around campus. I mean, its entirely possible that the simulation generated the correct bystanders based on parameters we didn't see. It just didn't seem real likely."
  4. Alex pulled the letter from Erin's fingertips and her eyes skimmed over it quickly before she silently handed it to Mike. Without saying a word, she slipped down on the floor and folded her legs under her. Closing her friends out, Alex shut her eyes and relaxed her posture with her hands loose in her lap. Behind her closed eyelids, her eyes flickered back and forth rapidly. She left any explanation needed to Mike as in as deep a trance as she was going, he'd have to contact her through their psychic link to pull her out. Then, Alex set herself to the time consuming task of quartering the city mentally.
  5. "We're on our way," Alex responded both mentally and aloud as she nudged Mike with one foot to get him up and moving. "I'll fill you in on the way." They showed up at James dorm room moments later. The advantage of Alex and Mike's deep bond meant that she could easily catch him up to the current situation. "We should start with the letter. Despite the fact that James has always been troubled, he's not the type to take sudden dangerous action. What's it say?"
  6. "Well, all the ones standing around were vapor locked, which was okay. I mean, that was probably easier than the actual real life situation. Assuming those who had the usual flight response were gone by the time we arrived, one or two bystanders should have responded with some sort of aggressive behavior. I mean, that would have made them a liability in conflict. You figure that roughly half will run but of those, the standard response is to find cover. Of that half, only a third of those should have been off the scene by the time we arrived. The others would have been hiding in buildings or even behind dumpsters. The ones that don't run are likely to freeze which was the response of all the ones we encountered. And maybe ten percent should have had an aggression response." Alex responded enthusiastically as she would have to any teacher, rattling of the expected psychosematic responses cheerfully, "At least, that's according to the by-the-book statistics. Any real world situation will have some variance based on socio-economic factors and the generic make-up of a given population. Not to mention, sometimes there's a mind control ray. Actually, often there's a mind control ray."
  7. "You're welcome, although we'll see how much those thanks are deserved after you've had a lesson or two. I've never tried to teach anyone magic before." Phantom said with a laugh. "I wish you luck, James. I have a feeling you're going to need it." With that, she teleported away, the cloak collapsing in on itself until it vanished with a silent pop.
  8. Alex took a half step in front of Erin, hands raised in a soothing gesture, "We searched for the individual and subdued him as quickly as possible once we'd removed the civilians from the danger zone. I should have pulled my mental blast a little. I meant to stun him. We also didn't give him a chance to surrender which we probably should have done. I don't think the simulations are entirely accurate in their flight response patterns, though, I have to say."
  9. "Well, that's one Derrick's sure to win." Taylor said dryly as she clipped her badge to her belt. She fiddled with it so that her shirt wouldn't cover it up and stuffed her hands back in her jacket pockets. "I'm pretty sure he's the big name here."
  10. "There's a fair number of powerful dark wizards too, sadly. There's not so many good magic users and even fewer powerful ones," Taylor explained as she pushed off of the rooftop to float in the night sky. She reached up automatically towards her amulet and her cloak folded out of the shadows to wrap her in her costume. "I pick up my cell phone messages but I don't answer a lot of the time as it's in another dimension. There's not a lot of good ways to get in touch with me in a real emergency so I'll have to think of something."
  11. Taylor was seated cross legged on a bench, a thick book open on her lap that she had her nose buried in. She glanced up as Stesha approached, her mystical senses warning her of the incoming presence of her friend. She snapped the book closed and tucked it into her jacket where it vanished a little conspiciously. "Hey, Stesha. I haven't seen Derrick yet, but I know I'm early."
  12. "I was expecting more resistance but without his helmet, his brain was all vulnerable." Alex agreed with a little shrug of her shoulders, "Thanks. I think we did pretty well. The civilians were all kinds of resistant to moving out of the way. That never happens in real life." She peeled her mask down and bounced a little on the toes of her boots, almost skipping as they headed out for the exit.
  13. It went off as if they'd rehearsed the move a hundred times. His helmet flew up into the air just as Alex focused her attention on the man's brain. Her hazel eyes narrowed behind her mask as she focused all of her potent psychic ability on one man. Blood trickled out of his nose and ears as his eyes rolled up and he slumped to the ground like a puppet with his strings cut. "Oops, pushed a little too hard." Alex muttered with embarrassment as she floated to the ground while the simulation faded, "If he was real, he'd wake up with one doozy of a headache. Sorry."
  14. You get his helmet off: 1d20+12=26 Alex goes on her turn and fires off her mental blas which is a DC22 Will Save: 1d20=5 Ouch. He's out.
  15. Sure, I can check. One sec. Alex tucked her feet under her and sat up, closing her eyes briefly. It only took a few seconds to send the image of the room back at Erin, completetly empty. There's no one in there to my senses but James might be able to hide if he really thought about it. It's possible. Do you want me to open the door for you?
  16. The response came in her mind rather than activating the communicator, Nope, I'm not busy. Just watching some movies with Mike, so I had my belt buckle on silent. What do you need? She shifted on the couch in the common area, pulling her feet from Mike's lap. The room was relatively empty, which might have had something to do with the fact that they weren't watching scary movies at all. At the moment, Willow was playing on the tv in the background.
  17. Case at his foot. I figure the button has been pushed? If the button hasn't been pushed, I'll go for that.
  18. Her lower lip trapped between her teeth, Alex managed to move away the last of the crowd as Erin continued to wrestle with the big guy. Her bat made a solid gong-ing sound again but this time the metal buckled a little under the bat's impact. He let out another angry and this time pained shout as he made another slow and clumsy swing for Erin but the light post was not the greatest weapon for close quarters fighting. "I felt a little flicker when you bent his helmet," Alex volunteered from her vantage point above the fight.
  19. DC30 Toughness Save: 1d20+15=26 He is bruised. Still rolling for Crap on his to hits: 1d20+8=15 I'll get you next time gadget!
  20. "It was nice wasn't it?" Taylor said as they walked down the drive. Once they were out of sight of the house, she slipped the birthday gifts into the void to free up both of their hands. "My family is very fond of you. Of course, so am I." The dimple flashed in her cheek teasingly as they reached the car.
  21. Taylor leaned over it to give him a quick kiss, ignoring the teasing catcall from Jackson. From the faint thumping, it sounded like her sister had taken over the responsibity of thumping Jackson on the shoulder to shut him up. "Thank you." Blushing slightly, as she wasn't the most publically demonstrative of people, Taylor turned to thank her family as well before saying, "Speaking of which, we should probably go if we're not going to be late."
  22. "Uncle Huang will be there for certain. He's my father's uncle, technically, but we've always just called him uncle. He looks nothing like the cartoon." Taylor said with a fond laugh before she obligingly filled him in on the details of her extended family, which was apparently quite large and far flung. She had to take her hand from his waist eventually to tick them off on her fingers by the time Jackson was sent over to interrupt. "Our fascinating family tree aside, birthday girl, you want to open some presents before you put your boyfriend into a coma?" Taylor made a face at her older brother although she slanted a glance up at Jack to make sure he wasn't unconcious even as she let herself be pushed over to the couch with some good natured jostling by her siblings. Present-opening was another obvious family tradition. Jackson claimed his usual position as present maestro and handed them over with great fanfare and a good deal of ribbing from the rest of the family. By the time the presents were all open, Taylor had amassed quite a little stack of schlocky movies as well as a book or two.
  23. As Alex set her fingertips to her temples, she began to prod the civilians out of the way. She could understand Erin's complaints about Archer as she'd never had nearly so much trouble getting people to move out of the way of danger in real life scenarios. Generally, they were all for getting away from crumpling buildings and what all. It made Alex think of the Sims game on her computer where she had to tell the Sims to use the restroom before they wet themselves. Wander's bat smacked into the faceplate of his helmet with a resounding 'gong' and the armored goon let out an angry bellow as he swung his light pole back at her midsection in retaliation.
  24. His toughness save was terrible... Congrats, you get an HP! <.< 1d20+15=17 See, terrible. Okay, Alex is going to spend her turn moving the civilians. She'll be stuck doing that for this and the next round at least. Thrasher is going to bellow his outrage at Wander and swing his lightpole at her. 1d20+8=16 I don't believe a 16 hits but if it does its a DC27 Toughness save.
  25. "It's already starting to fade. I felt it go." Psyche replied to Chris. "I'm going to see if I can keep them all from panicking and get them moving outta here so no one gets hurt." With that, she focused on firing off rapid mental directions to the humans that had been all zombiefied by whatever magic the cultists had been doing. To each, she projected directions on how to file out of the park orderly and safely, her mental voice a calm and solid feeling in their minds. Hopefully, words would be enough to get them moving as she really didn't want to end up having to steal control of their brains away again. That seemed wrong.
