I'll take a free action to pop up my force field and use my only standard for a blast attack. Swing and a miss on the attack. 1d20+9=10
-
Toughness Save: 21 Bruised, Stunned and Staggered. I'll clear the stun with my hero point.

Phantom flung up one arm to block the weapon automatically and she hissed in a breath as the lash snaked around her wrist and laid her cheek open, spraying blood accross her good sheets. Who is this nutjob and what is he doing in my bedroom? She thought as the pain chased the last of the sleep cobwebs away. Phantom gave him a baleful glare over the wrist still wrapped by the flail and growled. "You're a dead man."

The tingle on the back of her neck was the only warning Taylor was given. Her eyes snapped awake and she tossed the bedding back in an attempt to scramble to her feet even as she summoned her clothing. The shadows twisted around her, resolving themselves into a rippling cloak that dripped over the edges of the bed.

Taylor's Init: 1d20=11 You've got her surprised and flat-footed this round. Her flat footed DC to hit is 2. I'll post her waking up then feel free to give it your best shot :D

A thread where in everyone has a bad day. Zealot, Phantom and Avenger.

Taylor took the long way home after her first class of the new school year. That is to say, she took the time to stroll from the campus to her apartment building along the twilight-lit streets instead of teleporting directly from the bathroom home. It was a luxury that she knew would fall swiftly by the way side once the year picked up. As she walked, Taylor patted her jacket pockets then searched her jeans in a futile attempt to find her cell phone. For the first time since she'd assumed Phantom's mask, she had enough of a social life that there were usually messages on the cell. Once she'd searched all her pockets twice, she stopped in the shade of a closed store front and quickly checked that no one was watching before she fished the cell phone out of the void. Her hand vanished into a small pocket of space with a faint flash of light and emerged triumphant with the phone. She really had to stop leaving the dratted thing in another dimension but at least that meant that it hadn't interrupted her professor with it's ring. She put her phone to her ear and quickly listened to the messages as she walked the rest of the way. A message from Jack confirming tomorrow night's date and then a quick call from Stesha. She made a mental note to call them both back later on. When she slipped inside her apartment, her boots were kicked off by the door and she dropped her keys and cellphone in the delicate glass bowl she kept spare change in. Taylor glanced at the clock. It was early and there had been no catastrophe's all day. That meant she could have both a shower and a nap before midnight roof crawling. She shed her clothes in short order and stepped into a blisteringly hot shower. For once there was enough hot water to last for a long shower and Taylor was feeling quite content as she slipped between the sheets of her bedding. It would be so nice to sleep in the bed for once rather than a quick nap on the too short couch.

Oh, I remember you talking about this in chat. Psyche would totally be down.

"I have lots of plans for tonight," Taylor said although it was softly stated rather than her usual teasing. Her dark eyes saw a little more clearly than Jack might like and she offered him the opening, "Did you want to talk about it?" The light pressure of her fingertips on his arm increased and she flashed him a concerned look, searching his features. She was, at least, getting better at reading the moods that went on behind Jack's expressions. "Or would you rather just dance?"

Taylor lifted her chin and grinned, "The Drew's of the world don't hold any fear for me. I think he's a perfect candidate for your stun flower. In fact, if we do the partner thing, I may just let him pick me. I'm pretty sure I can break his nose and make it look like an accident. That memory alone will tide me over for the next month and a half at work. If nothing else, we can rule out the sort of self defense we don't want to know."

Phantom fired another bolt that the creature shook off with a growl before it breathed out a stream of fire that covered the golfcourse with brightly burning flames. Phantom had time to fling up her arms before the fire washed over her body. Although insubstantial, the cloak wrapping her body caught fire. For a terrfying moment, Phantom struggled with the burning fabric. She managed to rip out of the confines of the cloak but not before her hands were seared by the flames. The pain staggered her and she curled her hands against her stomach out of instinct.

The coolly remote expression faded from her features and she gave Ace a quiet nod and replied with, "I'm sure he well. I'll see you later, Ace." She threaded her hand through his arm and raised an eyebrow at Jack but didn't raise any questions as the parted ways with the play-boy. Taylor appreciated her friends concern but sometimes she really wondered if everyone just thought she was some sort of idiot. Jack had secrets - more than almost anyone else she'd ever met - and she was well aware that at least some of them were dangerous. Taylor could have even chosen to try and pry into them, but she didn't. Either he'd reveal things in time or he wouldn't. In the end, it came down to a matter of trust. Right or wrong, Taylor had made the choice to trust Jack. Although she doubted he'd say the same about her. Taylor lifted an inscrutable face to Jack before the warmth of her smile softened her expression. "I think I hear music in the ballroom. Shall we go watch people dance?"

Alex laughed at the insinuation and informed James with a cheeky grin, "My heart's broken. To think of all the time I wasted doodling 'Alexandra Prophet' on things. Oh, well. I'll simply take the ice cream and consign myself to a loveless fate with someone else. Perhaps after our marriages dissolve into shambles, we can at least do the fling thing." Her eyes twinkled at her friends in the mirror before she scooted over and gave her order in an impressive bellow for such a small girl.
-
"He's basically harmless. Just irritating." Taylor said flatly as they let the people stream past them. "I need the job, and although a worthless toad, he looks the other way when I vanish mid-shift. Most of the time. Unfortunately, he sees the whole 'ice princess' thing as some sort of challenge." She lifted one shoulder in a shrug and leaned her hip against the wall, her cheeks dimpling as she grinned, "I dunno. It might be worth it to sit next to Drew and convince him to volunteer. My cell phone has a video feature, after all."
-
Taylor lifted her chin at the silky comments flying back and forth and said, quietly, "I am neither a fool nor a child, Ace. If you want to have a conversation with Jack without me, all you had to do was ask." She gave both of them measured and slanted glances, "I'm sure I can manage to mingle by myself for a bit if there's something you need to settle."

Phantom materialized, her hands focused in a blast of crackling energy that hit the ferocious creature dead on in its chest as she floated ephemerally above the ground. Despite the angry bellowing, only Avenger's first blow seemed to penetrate the creature's thick hide. The demon's tail lashed back and forth and it slammed another taloned foot on the castle, cracking the pink plaster further. It snorted once, flames licking around its nose and mouth and Phantom paused in the act of rasing her hands again. Enforcer demons don't breath fire, right?
-
Phantom: 21 to hit. Which is plenty since the demon's startled. Demon's DC 24 toughness save: 33 I see. InvisibleCastle rolls ones for me on Phantom and twenties when I'm playing the demon. The demon is startled. And a little pissed. Top of the second round to Avenger.
-
"Sure, doll. Anything for you," Drew agree bemusedly then gave her another one of those leering looks, "If it gets too cramped, you can just sit on my lap." Chuckling to himself, Drew strode off to find them seats while Taylor gave Stesha the 'are-you-out-of-your-mind' look before reluctantly smiling, "I hope you're working up to breaking his thumbs or something equally entertaining. The man's a toad." She rubbed her elbow distractedly. Drew's touch always felt slimy. Ick. "At least he's sober. He's worse with a few beers in him. Nothing I say can convince him he's not a gift to all of women kind."

1d20+14=24, 1d20+14=31 The demon can't make the notice check. You are hidden. The demon takes an injury and a bruise.
