"A... supervisor?" Her hollow voice echoed up, turning the words into a rather concerned question. Superheroes were often thrown into the deep end feet first but this seemed a little much to Phantom. After all, it was a long standing legacy. There was training. Expectations. "No. I am not. More 'I work in a different department'." She tipped her head to the side to examine him for a long moment before she reached in to her own chest, her hand vanishing before it reappeared, holding a small but glutted nightmare figment that she held out towards him, expectantly. Although the creature was ephemeral, spitting and hissing at its capture, the ghostly eldritch bands that held it tight remained looped around Phantom's fingers. "I brought you this." Oh look. A present.

Taylor's slight shrug was vaguely-though-not-entirely apologetic at failing to properly share information before they'd all piled in the car. Still, she turned her hand up under his, squeezing his fingers back in mute reassurance as she threaded them through Jack's. "You'll be fine," she said for both sets of ears, her voice calm and even as she tried to settle two very different set of nerves. "You're only there during the week and we'll pick you up on Friday. It'll be good for you and if things go horribly awry, you can always come home and we'll work things out. I really think you'll like it, though. We wouldn't have enrolled you if we didn't think it would be a good experience." Taylor turned in her seat, her hand still linked with Jack's as she added, "And what makes you think we're not going to join the PTA? I've lectured at Claremont before. Unlike typical schools, this is exactly the kind of school that would ask your father to come in and scare the crap out of your classmates for a field exercise. It's not a normal school." As she straightened, turning back around, "Ah, there's the bus stop and we're not running too late, thankfully."

Alex giggled at the unintentional joke, her laughter brief but bemused before she sobered and gave Erin's words due consideration. She caught her lower lip between her teeth, worrying at it slowly. "No, of course I wouldn't," Alex agreed, "And, of course that wasn't manipulation, I mean, not like that. But you come at it from an equal point of view, as equals. I just don't want to accidentally force Mike to go along with me because that would be wrong and..." She trailed off then, squinting slightly, her nose scrunching up. "... and I'm totally depriving him of the chance to make those choices, aren't I? I mean, it's not like Mike doesn't get all stubborn when he has strong feelings. I'd have convinced him to stay over for a night a looooong time ago if he wasn't fully able to make his own calls on things." Alex tipped her head to the side to take Erin in, her smile turning teasing, "When did you get so smart?"

"Its why I wear the costume," Phantom agreed with Sekhmet's assessment with a heartfelt sigh. Sometimes she wondered if her job wouldn't be significantly easier if she was better at the 'scary'. Oh, the dramatics certainly helped as she'd cultivated the aesthetic but Phantom was well aware that she was fighting an uphill battle. "Although I wish it had pants." Phantom followed along, squinting at the menu as Set ordered. She made for a much more relaxed companion now that she was safe in the rather extreme disguise. She'd worn less before. Admittedly, not often and usually to go swimming, but she'd make do. Absently, she went to put her hands in pockets that weren't there before folding her arms up instead as Set's gesture of pulling the cash out caught her attention, "Ah, so that's how you make do without pockets." Phantom accepted the plate of fried dough with careful hands and offered, "It's hot but its better when you burn your mouth than when they get cold. Cold funnel cake tastes awful." That was said with some growing confidence as she glanced around the amusement park and then pointed with her chin towards some of the rides, "What did you come to see at the amusement park? Did you have a 'must visit' list or are you just taking in the sites of Freedom City?"
-
"Ah. The husband," Phantom intoned like that made sense. She watched Elis for a moment before vanishing and appearing next to him in the passenger seat, looking more solid once she settled. She did have to gather her cloak up so that it was mostly stuffed down in the footwell. Phantom did not reach for the seatbelt but, really, she probably didn't need to fear a car accident in the way that most mortals would have. "I am concerned about your sister if she thinks 'this'," with that she gestured towards her costumed self, "Might be a successful first date. Especially if she doesn't know about your alternate evening activities." Phantom paused and then added, amusement filtering through her hollow tones giving them perhaps an even more unsettling timber. "Of course, there are worse first dates."

Taylor settled JJ with a pair of sunglasses and a blanket to hide his face in before she took her place in the passenger seat in the front. Her sigh spoke volumes about the crabby teenager in the back seat. She left the lecture to his father although she added, "Did you happen to grab any of the things we got or do I need to drop them off for you later, Huang? I know you don't want to go but you need some normalcy in your life." She paused and added under her breath, "Clearly." Her gaze slid then to Jack as she eased back in her seat, looking for the turn off, and nodding, "Erin was a great baby-sitter although I think JJ's probably grown out of trying to bite the sitter. Probably. As long as they can handle the ghosts, they'd probably be fine..." The last question, however, had her pausing. Taylor's left hand flew up to her amulet as she twisted it between her fingers. "Oh, you know. She's fine." She said after a pronounced pause and a meaningful look back to Huang's slouched form in the back seat. Her voice dropped to a murmur that hopefully would escape Huang's hearing. Hopefully, "Her parents were part of a fairly successful cult-thing, but she's fine. I'll tell you about it later." Because the offspring of evil magic workers were exactly the sort of person one wanted to put in the backseat with dhampir. Still, Taylor owed the headmaster for getting their eldest in at such late notice at all and Taylor wasn't the type to hold the sins of the parents against a child.

"Well, I'm the one who's not seeing him, really. Mike would pick me up for date nights but I knew that would kind of make it all fall apart faster," She added with a small smile as she squeezed Erin's hand back, her touch light but appreciative. "I mean. I may have encouraged this. A bit. Just a bit." Alex paused and then added, a little guilty, "I also may not have let him know that I was unhappy or lonely. I just don't want to 'stunt his development'!" Because manipulating the people you loved so that you DIDN'T manipulate them totally made sense! Or, close enough. Alex began to twist her hands together in the same nervous habit she'd had since they were sixteen year old roommates. "I mean, sure, he could! But then, what if later on he had regrets. I don't want Mike to have regrets because I nudged him along the path I think is right. I mean, I AM right, but self direction is so important. So, if he's going down the wrong path, he should learn that on his own, right?" This sounded an awful lot like the same sort of logic that had led to Alex not ever mentioning her feelings for fear of undue influence. Sometimes having a super-brain left you working back around to get in your own way. She frowned at Erin, the expression thoughtful, "You don't think its manipulating Mike?"

Phantom sighed, the sound a ghostly rattle as she gestured towards herself with veiled impatience. It wasn't hard to assume since the shouting had been minimal that this man was no particular layman, "I am Phantom, sometimes called Heshem's Chosen - among other things - I am charged with keeping the Pact and guarding from inter-dimensional... antics." "I have worked with your predecessor on very rare occasion in the past," Phantom added as she settled back a bit and dutifully floated up out of his car engine and off to the side. "I am not going to attack you. If I were, I would not have opened with 'hello', I assure you. Would you like to get out of your vehicle?" It was not the most warm and fuzzy of introductory speeches but, unlike her alter ego, Phantom very rarely went out of her way to soothe people's concerns. It was generally to her benefit if Phantom was considered a little foreboding.

The minivan might not have gone with the whole 'supernatural aesthetic' of the rest of the haunted manor but there was a surprising number of times that Taylor had to get around Freedom City, family in tow, and not have it be reasonable to stick the whole family in her cape for the ride. The minivan, however, was growing on her. Not only could she stuff all sorts of supplies - or unconscious bodies - in with the seats down but there was a built in vacuum. The Void did not have a built in vacuum. "Huang, come on! We're going to be late to the bus stop if we don't hurry," she called as she hustled JJ down the stairs and towards the side of the van. The five year old was yawning as, like the rest of his family, he was by and large a nocturnal creature. Sadly, he was forced to a daytime schedule with his own classes starting. "In the back with you, kiddo, we have to pick up one of Huang's classmates along the way." At least the little boy was fairly biddable when tired as all he wanted to do was get into the car and nap until he was stirred once more. Taylor stepped up in to the van to buckle him into his seat and glanced into the back... which was apparently empty. "I swear I told him to put his things in the car this morning..."

"We're still together, still engaged. I mean, I've only actually seen him intermittently as he's been busy with his whole normalcy thing and I have AEON," Alex offered, with a small shrug of her shoulders that almost sent her slipping off of the roof. After righting herself on her perch, Alex tucked her hands back in her pockets, her legs absently swinging. "We're never really apart - not really. But it isn't the same." She gestured towards her head, indicating the constant mental link but she looked a little sad at the same time. After living practically in each other's pockets, Mike's absence was something she felt keenly, even if he was never more than a mental touch away, "I mean, it's good. It's healthy, I suppose, since one has to has one's own adult identity and all of that but..." Alex sighed and admitted, scuffing one sneaker against the side of the roof, "I don't like it though. I just want to, you know, see him. I don't like actually being alone. It's weird and I don't enjoy it at all. But, what can you do? I mean, I want to be supportive and all that in things that matter. I hope he's going to be okay with moving forward, but I don't actually know if he will. He could go off for a jaunt around space next and it'll be another five years. Or ten."
-
Phantom glanced down to where her waist was hidden below the trunk before she shrugged, a faint gesture that sent the folds of her cloak rippling and writhing like they were alive. She floated forward, ghosting through the cab of the car and through Ellis towards the front of the car. When she moved through his body, there was no real sensation save for a chill that was left in her wake. When he wouldn't have to crane his neck to see her, Phantom leaned forward so that her face was on the interior, the rest of her body floating half in and half out of the hood of his car. "Greetings," she said once more, her voice cordial for all that it echoed hollowly. There wasn't much to see of her features, the dark cowl obscured much of her features and below that she wore a mask that covered all but her chin and mouth. "Are you the bearer of the legacy of the Dreamkeepers? I am looking for the individual who has taken up the mantle of the fallen keeper. Would that be you?"
-
There it was! Phantom caught the faint tingle of that particular brand of magic and with a thought sent herself from the graveyard to the Sanford's driveway just as Elis happened to be backing his car out. She turned to watch, the expression underneath her hood and mask faintly quizzical as she tried to hone into the trickle of dream-magic that she was following. Of course, for Elis, it meant that without warning, a cloaked and hooded figure just appeared inches behind his car as he began to ease his foot off the gas, turning to look in his direction with eyes that glowed from below the shadows of her hood. Phantom glanced down absently as the rear bumper of the car began to pass through her hips. At this point in her career, she was used to things passing through her body and paid it little mind when they did. One of these days she was going to have a nasty surprise when something she expected to pass harmlessly through knocked her down instead. Today, however, was not that day. Of course that didn't mean she wasn't going to accidentally startle a new-ish super hero into attacking her unintentionally as she phased through his car. "Hello."

Typically, when one had a five year old that complained of a few nights of nightmares, most parents would perhaps leave an extra light on or, maybe, adjust the night time routine. However, normal was a little different in the Farretti household. That was why instead of an extra light, or a beloved stuffed animal to ward off bad dreams, Phantom was currently floating ephemeral and half hidden in the shadows above her sleeping son's bed. Her cloak shifted soundlessly, but Phantom neither moved nor drew breath as she waited with an unnatural patience. The first nightmare hadn't drawn her concern. When JJ had come thundering down the hall, his eyes gone glassy red and his hair stuck every direction with sweat, she'd scooped him up as any mother would have and soothed him back to sleep through his ramblings about the bad dreams. The second night, she'd checked the wards just in case and gone through what he might have watched or read that would have shaken their usually calm offspring. The third night, however... JJ kicked his covers off, whimpering once in his sleep and Phantom's expression softened. She gestured, magic tendrils gently tucking the sleeping dhampir back in but the restoration of his blankets didn't stop the tossing and turning as JJ slipped from peaceful REM sleep to the throes of nightmare once more. Show yourself, you little... With another gesture, this one much sharper, the glow of Phantom's gaze sharpened as the magic in the area was revealed to her. Unfortunately, casting that particular spell in their house was always full of a fair amount of static - from the supernatural protections and spells woven throughout the manor to its supernatural denizens. At the moment, however, Phantom was only concerned with whatever was working their fell magic on a helpless child. Well, mostly helpless. The little creature was as ephemeral as Phantom but far more hidden. Still, her spell revealed it with its ghostly fingertips half through JJ's sleeping mind and in the next breath, she struck, wrapping it in coils of eldritch light and swallowing it to the void of her cloak. A minor nightmare was no match for Phantom, after all, although she was surprised it had worked its way through the words. Concerning... With a soft thump, she landed on bare feet - her costume banished once more. This time with solid hands, she tucked her young son back in, smoothing back his unruly hair and tucking the soft blanket around him tenderly. JJ's expression smoothed out as she settled him, turning peaceful once more as he rolled back to his side to settle in for the night. Looks like I have work to do tonight after all. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ A few minutes later - having explained in brief the situation to her spouse, and tightened up the wards - Phantom appeared floating above a cemetery. Over one grave in particular. Ghosting down slowly, Phantom turned solid once more, her boots leaving faint impressions in the wet grass. The grass was well grown in now and the stone had seen some weather. This was no fresh grave. Had so much changed while she was gone? Should it concern me that I've learned to tell the differences between 'grave aging'? The inscription read, 'Barbara Breska-Sanford. 1981 - 2014 Beloved wife and mother. Dreams Can Never Die.' Phantom bent down, touching the flowers at the base. The grave wasn't fresh but the flowers were. Forget-me-nots, Queen's Anne lace, and tulips. Perhaps someone knew their flower meanings. A promise...? Standing up, Phantom brushed the moisture from her gloved hands and turned her head up towards the sky. Mourning for a fellow practitioner could wait. If no one had taken up the legacy, that might explain the nightmare in her pocket. Now... to find the inheritor of that particular strain of magic. It might be a very long night.

That, at least derailed Alex's wedding plan discussions. Really, no one derailed Alex's plans for a wedding like Michael Harris. Her sigh echoed out and she tipped her head up towards the sky, almost absently touching Mike's thoughts across the city although she said nothing. "Oh, you know. He's moving forward." Alex said after a moment as she bobbed up to sit next to Erin. Unlike Erin's menacing perch, Alex sat next to her, her legs swinging absently and her hands on the cold stone. "Honestly, its been a slow realization of all the problems at every step of the way. So, you know. On some level, he knew it was all coming but he didn't want to believe it. You know Mike. He can be so stubborn." Alex's tone was exasperated. It really wasn't easy to let Mike keep going down the wrong path but she'd long ago decided not to risk stunting his development. In her own way, Alex could really be just as stubborn. "Plus, he won't move in before we get married because that's important to him. I am trying really hard to respect that but, you know, it's frustrating." She paused, "On many, many levels."

"Oh, they're the three rings style but I made them more, you know, wedding-y," Alex said cheerfully as she bounced along beside Erin with a little more bob than usual in her floating as her good mood manifested in her flight. It wasn't quite 'turning loops for fun' but it wasn't all that far off either as she warmed to her subject. Considering Alex's penchant for glitter paint well into her final year at Claremont, there was a strong likelihood that they were festively bedecked. "And I know. Of course you haven't yet. That's why there are two binders. One for fall and winter, and one for summer and spring!" Alex continued on with good cheer, either missing or more likely, ignoring the trepidation in Erin's tone. "And I've scaled them based on projected numbers from intimate to sizable. It's best to be prepared!" That, really, could have been Alex's catch-phrase. At Erin's final question, Alex shot her a faint frown, "Of course I didn't bring them!" She waved her hands around the largely empty streets, "There's no place to lay them out and mark what you like and don't like about the possible plans. And where would put all the post it notes?"

Alex gave a little shrug of her shoulders under the sparkly sweater and floated after Erin, her hands never leaving her pockets as she kept up with Erin's jog. There was, after all, no way she'd manage to keep up with even Erin's easy jog on foot but flying was still fun and Alex had missed it. She flipped over as she trailed along, looking up at the night sky through the light pollution of Freedom City to the stars beyond. "I'm fine. You know, all of our old missions always seemed to sort of... just be attracted to us. Probably because of Mark, come to think of it," Alex said, her lips curving up then with obvious fondness for their old friend. "Things with Mark were rarely dull. Sometimes terrifying but rarely dull. I don't think I could do the full-time super hero life. It's hard, you know. Not to get sucked in all the time. I hear them..." She trailed off verbally as with Erin, she didn't need to explain the constant press of humanity on her brain. Alex well understood the constant need for super hero work but she knew she'd never be able to help everyone all the time. Trying would have driven her round the bend. "...But I miss doing it some of the time." Alex flipped over once agin, lazily, like a swimmer turning over underwater and caught up to Erin, "I did put together a binder for you to look over. Two actually." At Erin's blink, Alex added brightly. "For the wedding!"
-
Alex floated after Erin, and remained hovering behind where she landed, going quiet as Erin listened to the night, with her hands in her pockets. Floating there, Alex cast her gaze over the city beyond Erin as if she, too, were listening. She was, in a way. Just not with her eyes and ears. If Erin looked back, she'd see Alex's gaze flicking back and forth rapidly, as if she were in REM sleep. Or perhaps blind. There was a reason that Alex typically closed her eyes when she was casting out her senses. "Mrs. Miller's fallen asleep in front of the television smoking again," Alex offered after a good minute of silence, her hazel eyes finally focusing on Erin's shoulders once more rather than casting them out over the city. "There are some teenagers graffitiing outside the school and they may, or may not, be drinking. The couple down the street is fighting again about money. Mostly just yelling but it's hard to say if it's going to stay just yelling." Alex's sigh was soft, a little sad, but she moved on. "I think that Darcy might run away again. Poor kid. She's not handling the divorce well." Her hands remained in her pockets and Alex's posture remained relaxed in the air, one leg tucked up as she hovered. The aura of her power was more subdued than it had been in Claremont but it still sparkled and shifted around her as she bobbed in the air, her attention once more turned to Erin. "But that's just this quarter-mile or so. I can keep looking," Alex offered, her chin tipping to the side.
-
"No, I don't think I'll be too hot. I'm usually cold more than anything. It's the poor circulation, I think." Alex said as she held up slender hands for emphasis and wiggled her fingertips. "Besides, if I get hot, I'll just take the sweater off!" With a cheery jaunt in her steps that set her pony tail bouncing, she fell in along with Erin as they left the penthouse and headed for the sleepy streets of Alex's childhood neighborhood. It didn't phase Alex at all to be trotting alongside a costumed super-hero and they made quite the pair as every third step or so, she'd float forward to keep up with Erin's longer stride and resume walking without missing a beat in her conversation. Alex, for her part, was used to multitasking so while she psychically skimmed over their environs, she continued to chat - almost without pausing for breath, "Is there anything in particular you're looking for or are we just keeping an eye out for 'trouble'?" Alex wanted to know although she continued on without really pausing for answer, in typical Alex fashion, "I haven't really fought any sort of crime since graduation. I mean, I've dealt with power containment issues but that's really not the same thing. People aren't trying to, like, rob a bank. Or scare old ladies. They're just, you know, scared."
-
Date: Late August, 2015 "Just a minute!" Alex called out from behind her closed bedroom door and where she was eyeing the articles of clothing already discarded across her bed. "Almost ready." Now, she'd never been one to really debate a clothing choice. Alex, after all, embraced her own aesthetic with a whole hearted cheerfulness but apparently the one thing she didn't own was something fit for crime fighting in muted colors. She wasn't sure which of them had brought up the entire idea of getting 'back on the horse' so to speak of super-hero'ing but as it was a chance to spend time together with her best friend and, also, a chance to fly - passing it up had never even crossed Alex's mind. Of course she could wear her old costume. It wasn't like she'd grown much since high school, but Psyche's short skirted ensemble would probably have read very differently on a twenty-something lady. Alex really didn't need to see that appear on a magazine cover. Ever. "Okay, I think I'm ready." She stepped out after pulling the turtleneck on over her head and grabbed a light sweater, giving Erin a hesitant look. "Is this okay?" At least the jeans were dark blue but over that she'd put on a turtleneck that could most charitably be described as 'pumpkin'. The sweater was black, at least, but shot through with a sparkly silver yarn. It would have been perfect for Halloween but since it was August, it was really just Alex. "It's a black sweater!"

Phantom took her place between the two Egyptian gods, shifting to put her hands on each lady's waist hesitantly. Photography was a problematic subject in the Farretti household - family photographs were a little awkward when one member showed up in none of the photos, after all. So, the whole 'selfie culture' was not exactly Phantom's own bailiwick but she understood the basics, after all. Her smile was the typical, slightly tense 'someone's taking a photograph of me' but at the chanting of Sekhmet's name in progressively more nagging tones, Phantom started to chuckle. By the time that the photo was taken, Phantom was full on laughing - a fact that the photo captured. It was clear why she wore the full mask and hood as without either, Heshem's Chosen was a far less intimidating site. When Set had captured the photos she wanted, Phantom turned towards Sekhmet with laughter still in her voice, "You know, smiling is merely a socially acceptable way to show one's teeth - or so I am told. My husband has always made great use of that fact to intimidate people. It's not a trick I've mastered, I fear. No one finds my smiles all that disconcerting in general despite my best efforts." It was a testament to how Phantom had relaxed in this point that her words were casual and unguarded before she turned back to Set, "I admit, I haven't been here since I was a teenager, years ago, but I imagine most of the old attractions are here. There was a fun house once..."

Phantom's breath whooshed out in something like relief as she was hauled this time towards a small corner of the amusement park. "Thank..." she started as Set's hand lifted up to gesture, and suddenly her clothes twisted to something much less, "...you." Glancing down, she took in the rather dramatic change in her attire with a distinctly non plussed expression. The skirt, admittedly was longer than what her costumed alter-ego wore but over all there was just a whole lot more skin exposed to sunlight than Phantom was used to. Still, when a god or goddess dressed you in the attire of their people, one took that for the compliment it was and resisted the urge to fidget. Unless one enjoyed being smote by divine wrath, Phantom supposed, and while in her current incarnation that might prove difficult - the gods had a long memory. "I doubt I will be recognized now," the words were dry, bemused, as Phantom gave into the impulse at least to lightly touch her hair and figure out exactly how it was twisted up off of her neck. "I appreciate your discretion. Thank you." Letting her hands fall away once more to her sides, Phantom suppressed the urge to fiddle with like top like some maiden aunt as she turned curious kohl lined eyes to the two goddesses. "And now, I am fully at your disposal to sample carnival food of dubious quality."
