Alex waved her hands a little, "For a little while, but if he was an adult, his reputation would keep that from happening. Mike is just as stalwart and good hearted as someone trying to live up to that reputation needs to be. He's perfect to be the face of the Terminus children - the essence of all of the heroes who died returned to protect them once more and all that - but he's not twenty four and established. He's seventeen and still occasionally breaks doors when he reaches for them without thinking. He's not ready. None of us really are. I just have to be."

"Ah, the downside of a life of secrecy. There's no one there to applaud. Well, perhaps it is better with a smaller audience. At least you can be sure they appreciate the work." Bombshell agreed, pressing a quick kiss to his neck before she feinted away with a teasing laugh that was while entirely keeping with the charade, not feigned. She slipped through the door as if they were sneaking of to a private rendezvous, letting it swing back open for him to follow. Everyone studiously avoiding looking their direction would assume it was to find a quieter alcove. Which it was, but no one here was going to guess the actual reason why. The storage area was really perfect for finding a dark alcove for whatever reason. It was full of boxes, not just wine but what seemed to be random storage for the event outside and poorly lit, with the boxes and stacks making narrow, twisting paths through. "I do love when they scrimp on the back areas. Awfully cluttered, however."

Taylor had taken the time to cast her detection spell while Erin grabbed her bat, her arms going protectively around her son. She went to curl her legs up under her, her eyes glowing white as she scanned the park reflexively, looking for the source of the signature. By the time that she'd turned her attention back to Erin, the shadows were rippling behind them. Taylor looked more annoyed than frightened. "I can sense it. It's..." Before she could provide her usual mystic exposition, a shadowy figure stepped out and tossed back his cloak in dramatic flair. "Chosen of Heshem... I challenge you--" "It's okay, Wander, you can just hit him." Taylor muttered as the man started to pontificate and gesture.

"I'm so proud of you," Alex beamed at him and then got a sneaky expression on her face. Which, since it was Alex, was mostly comical as she looked around and then leaned into him, "So... just how far does that 'too short to wait on things' extend exactly?" She slid her fingers up his shirt experimentally, scooting closer in his lap to him.

"A deflection is still a lie." Alex straightened up slightly to correct him. One did not tweak the rules when one played with Alexandra Albright. She squeezed his thigh under the water and beamed at their friends, "He really wants to get married as quickly as possible because I am testing his resolve." Alex looked terribly pleased with herself and added, "I am a total seductress. Oh, yeah!"

The worried foursome (plus ghost dog!) tumbled through into that mystic dimension. For those who were aware of the usual nature of the Dimension of Doors, the section that Ouroboros looked nothing like the usual Escher esque environs. Instead, they were treated to a long and twisting corridor that looked like something out of the Stanley hotel from the Shining. The walls seemed too high, the angles just slightly off, with twists and turns that abruptly broke up the endless peeling paneling that was endless save for the doors which seemed to have random numbers on their surfaces. No guide nor guardian showed up to greet them, at least not to any of the abnormal perceptions of this mystical group. Of course, even supernatural perceptions could be deceiving in this realm.

Alex continued to giggle into her drink. "You've so missunderstood the way this game works." She informed Mike with another laugh. She was a giggly, giggly drunk. Her fingers continued to trace distracting patterns on his leg idly and she inched closer. "He's got a good one too. I can tell." She informed him in a little sing-songy voice.

It's not so bad. I think it's an acquired taste, Alex responded as she worked her way through the glass, too polite to set it down without finishing her drink. She accepted the schnapps afterwards with her usual 'try everything once' demeanor. Alex frowned a little at the strange taste but stayed quiet while her friends chatted. Now, being on of - if not the most - brilliant teenager on the face of earth, it would seem like Alex would know the dangers of alcohol and hot water. Really, she did. But she had failed to calculate her own physique and body weight into the mental equation. Even super geniuses err now and again. In this case, the results wouldn't probably be catastrophic, at least. Instead, she slipped down a little lower into the water and giggled softly again, laughing softly to herself at no verbal cues. She did look right at Erin and Trevor and say, "You two are so cute..." There was a weird echo to her words as she was talking and projecting at the same time as all the shields that Alex kept up at all times slipped away. Apparently that was what happened when psychics inhibitions lowered. Alex cuddled closer to Mike, putting her hand on his thigh under the water and she stole his abandoned drink since hers was empty. Mike would feel her usually sharp and bright thoughts turn muzzy with inebriation down the psychic link.

Phantom made a tsking noise that sounded decidedly strange with the odd echo of her hollow voice. "Of course you have a choice. You are limited, like most, only by the boundaries of your ability to think. If you are here to stay, then you will have to find something more to do than watch over this boy's bedside. If nothing else, you could investigate what you could do to alter his condition. Ending it would be... inadvisable. But there are options. You simply have to see them."
-
"You and me both." Bombshell agreed as she glanced over her shoulder surreptitiously. As her fingers traced down over the fabric of his shirt, bunching it slightly under her questing fingertips, her gaze sharpened on the patterns of the movement around that door watching where and how the people moved. She turned her face back to his jawline and pressed a soft kiss to the pulse point there, her words hidden against his skin, "Is anyone watching or have they all started to shift uncomfortably away? When the next waiter comes out, we'll be clear behind you."
-
Alex giggled, first at Trevor's expression and then as bubbles made Mike sneeze. She smiled at him and took up her glass to clink it against his, "To lasting friendship." She agreed and then took a sip herself, wrinkling her nose at the new taste. It wasn't bad so much as... weird. She went to follow the teens sliding into the jacuzzi, slipping into the water and cuddling herself next to her large fiance's side. "Mark, sometimes you really do have the best ideas. This is going to be such a fun trip."

"Yes, I know. And I'm really very sorry for the additional risk but I'm afraid I didn't have any other options." Alex said, her tone both apologetic and resolute. "But if someone does not deal with the fear of the 'Terminus baby', then once they realize the affliction is genetic, I fear for the level of hysteria that will ensue. It would be better if Mike could come out. He reminds people of Centurion with his powers and he's so very noble... But he's only seventeen. He's not ready. With Zoe here, we're out of time. If no one has realized that she's our daughter... Well, it's only matter of time. The power signature is too unique. The genetic evidence too obvious."
-
"It's not too soon." Alex confirmed, cuddling into his broad chest with a contented sigh as she spread her fingers out to admire the engagement band on her slender finger. She splayed her fingers out against the arm around her waist, admiring the sparkle in the sunlight before she looked back up at him, "If you're sure you wanna ask now, then of course it's not too soon. I've been waiting for you to ask for years. The disadvantage of my precocious nature." She wasn't exaggerating, either. Alex had the mingled luxury and agony of knowing Mike was her soulmate since primary school.
-
"Many," Alex said with a smile as she reached for her soda and pulled her feet up so that she was sitting crosslegged on her chair, "Although, most of my extracurricular efforts, when not focused on crime fighting, are pretty much tied up in AEON. Even I only have so many free hours in a day. I spend a lot of time with philanthropic work but its hard to balance. Coming out, it's really, really hard to do that. There's so much expected and even doing a large fraction of that... It leaves me falling short of a lot of expectations. I have to force myself to take time off otherwise I'll just burn out. I read, an awful lot. And I keep a journal from, like, forever. I try really hard to be a normal kid. I'm not, of course, but I sure try hard to be one."
-
"Oh, sure. I don't think there's a more safe environment to experiment in. I mean, we're all good friends and there's an adult just like ten feet away if things did end up getting out of hand. Experimenting is natural and healthy as long as its done with self awareness and in a place that is safe to do so in." Alex agreed with a little shrug of her shoulders as she pulled her suit up and on, giving a pleased smile as she finally filled the cups at least a little bit in her bikini. Alex would always be petite but at least, she felt, she looked like a young woman rather than a little girl now. The suit, however, was as brightly eyeblinding as everything else she owned. "I'm not gonna get trashed or anything, but I'll try a glass or two? What about you?" Alex asked that as she headed back out to open the door and catch up to the boys, adding, "And Mark's right. We could use a little celebration lately."

Bombshell stepped into him, one heeled foot landing lightly between his and her thigh pressed to his as her hand went to his shoulder almost as if they were dancing. She tilted her head back to meet his eyes, the heels putting them almost on even footing for once. "Oh, well, we certainly have to have you at your best, don't we? No assigning handicaps for the first round and all that. It's hardly sporting." She was most certainly not talking about golf. Bombshell leaned into him, the other hand still pressed to his chest between them. Now there were starting to be uncomfortable coughs and people shifting a little away from their corner. Bombshell lowered those red lips to the hollow under his jaw, her voice a low mumur, "I'm certainly not hiding in a restroom stall. Far too juvenile at this point. I vote we find where they keep the wine. Cool, dark and quiet if they know what they're doing."
-
Alex watched him with wide eyes, pursing her lips slightly, "Interesting. Personally, I can inflict negative emotions on sentient creatures. Any emotion, really, but fear, hate, lust - I can manufacture them as easily as I can read them. I don't enjoy the process because I feel it too keenly. Empathy is something I cultivate because I find it to be a noble attribute and one that is so important. It is very tempting, sometimes, to shield out the world completely but that way lies inhumanity. Empathy, however, keeps me from wanting to spread about those negative emotions because I end up feeling them all too keenly." She glanced away, her gaze flicking to the coffee pot as the drink fixed itself to his usual preference and then she turned her gaze back to him, the cup following the path of her eyes as it floated over to the desk near his arm. It hovered as a coaster shifted under it before the cup settled down. Alex looked back at his face as she reminded him, "It is very hot."
-
"Hopefully, we won't... did you see that?" Taylor asked as she rolled up to a sitting position, holding the baby against her chest as she shaded her eyes and squinted across the park. She'd felt it more than seen anything as she'd been laying down but her mystical sense had started tingling and she squinted her eyes. "Over there." She pointed and the shadows seemed to ripple and bend before settling back down into normal shadows. It was just a blink and you'll miss it moment of weirdness but it was enough, very likely, to set both women alert.

Bombshell chuckled and added her half full wine glass to the tray along with his cheese and then reached down to twine her fingers with his. "Oh, I just knew you'd be a good partner for this little caper. I do so enjoy the way your mind works." She lifted their linked hands up and stepped into him but with the curve of her body, she made the simple act look down right illicit. Bombshell, after all, was masterful at making things look uncomfortably intimate. A tact she'd used many, many times in the past. Nothing flustered a hero faster than inappropriate touching and a few innuendos. Well, most of the time at least. It was effective for the boy scouts of her era. This one, well, it was just more complicated. "Now, let's see. I think your shoulders are too broad for an airduct, don't you think?" She murmured, letting her other hand rest on his chest as she peeked over his shoulder to scan the room with bright eyes. "Unless you're really extraordinarily flexible."
-
"I don't think I've read about the Dakanan age counting from the start of gestation as opposed to birth. I would remember that factoid." Alex said curiously but she did squeeze Mike's hand one more time and follow over to where Mark was trustingly. After all, she knew Mark wouldn't lie to her and she could pester him for the details later of interesting socio-cultural phenomena of the Dakanaan. "I'm pretty sure that you're not supposed to tell scary stories with alcohol and a jacuzzi, Mark. I'm a little socially clueless but I totally think you're supposed to tell "No, really, there I was" when alcohol and semi-nudity are involved. Wanna come with me to change, Erin? And, yes, Mike. It's fine." She added that last without turning around and scooped up her backpack to head back to change. Chances were good she had something swimsuit like in there.

A Doktor Who Makes House Calls?! [IC] [Closed]
alderwitch replied to Dr Archeville's topic in North Bay
Phantom floated up to examine the good doctor, her expression hard to read behind her deep cowl and mask, "Hrmm... Not good. Where's the book?" She reached out, careful not to touch him but to get a good look at the words he was shaping, her eyes narrowed behind her mask. "I would recommended against touching him at this point in time. Really, its a wonder he is neither dead nor - hopefully - insane. His will must be quite strong. It will not be enough, however."- 121 replies

"Silly! Of course it's yes. What else could it be," Alex told him, her voice shaking just a little. It likely seemed like forever to poor Mike. She made up for the pause by reaching out and cupping his face between her palms. "I love you." Then Alex leaned in to press a tender kiss to his lips.
-
"Oooh, shall you frisk me or shall we cut straight to the manacles and the 'Where did you hide the painting, you naughty, naughty criminal?'." Bombshell teased, sipping her wine. Her eyes twinkled at him over the glass as she'd slipped her sunglasses into the pocket of her trench coat. "Now, let's find someplace to slip off to until things quiet down a bit. Any suggestions?"
-
Oh, guys, Alex's mental 'voice' filtered through their thoughts, affectionately exasperated. She glanced to Mike first, her eyes crinkling with amusement. You can get anywhere in the world to pick up a present and be back in timefor dinner. Her gaze slid back to Trevor and gentled, The important thing is for the intent behind it. Execution is a distant second. If you go from the heart, you'll be just fine. Alex smiled and then gently slipped her hand into Mike's, giving it a little squeeze. "You can head outside if you'll be more comfortable. I don't mind."

"Andy Warhol? I had the pleasure once of meeting him but Ace stole the spotlight as usual. Understandable, he was much more into Ace's crowd at the time than mine, if you know what I mean." Bombshell murmured as she glanced around for the painting in question and started to guide them both that direction, moving through the crowd with an ease born of practice. "But you're right, the painting must be something more than a painting. So, why put it out in the first place and guard it so carefully? A trap, maybe? I honestly have no idea." She smiled up at him, pausing to grab a glass of wine from the tray. "I just happened to notice it when I was passing through. I've always had an eye for security systems. Old habits and all that. I am *relatively* certain that I could have borrowed it to solve the mystery but I'm certain that would have resulted in a good scold. As fun as those can be, I get tired of writing notes of apology. I might be reformed but I still have my pride. So... we'll have to think of something else. Hence, the supply closet question."
