"It is important." Alex agreed solemnly as she watched him mend things with a wave of his hand and then pulled the clothing out to gently refold it. "But just now, one wave of your hand and everything in this pile is like new. Its a little thing, certainly not on the scale of making giant balloons to hold back the sun, but that little thing makes a giant difference to just one person. Now, you could spend the rest of your life doing this, just this, and still you couldn't save everyone. So you have to figure out what you can do, what you should do and what you need to do and try to make them all intersect. Does that make sense?" Alex held out the folded sweater to him and pointed out the family it belonged to along with a child's much loved and formerly almost tattered stuffed animal, "Here, go give them their things back. You fixed them, so you should get the smile for it."

Bombshell, Scarab, and eventually Ace Our stunning conclusion to the heel face turn story arc.
-
Bombshell had vanished from even her casual contact with Scarab for about three days. Long enough to really being to grow concerned about just how deep in the lovely thief had gotten herself. Elena arrived home to her apartment, to find things subtly amiss. A bottle of alcohol missing from the rarely used rack and a glass with lipstick on the counter top. Her swift ESP didn't reveal the intruder herself but it did reveal Bombshell's discarded uniform tossed on the floor of the restroom. Instead of a rendezvous, however, Elena would find her erstwhile love perched in a towel on the edge of the tub with one eye rapidly swelling shut and the distinctive patterns of bruises decorating the pale skin above the towel around one shoulder from a dislocation and relocation. She was currently using a bobby pin to pop the lock on the handcuff still manacled around one wrist. "We have a problem."

"Mhm..." Phantom agreed and there was a few seconds of silence before she blinked and added, "Hrmmm." She turned to frown at Avenger in the usual 'considering blasting him' sort of way before gesturing up to the mirror, "Found him. Have a look."

"I could snap it but it would be like cutting off a limb. It would hurt, all the time, and it would leave a void there of phantom pain. Zoe's had it her whole life and with everything else, she couldn't stand the strain. I'm not sure a fully stable adult could handle that loss much less an already grieving child. Its too risky." Alex said, rubbing her fingertips over her temples. "And it is me she's crying for, just not the me that she has. There's no easy solution. I'm not sure there's a hard solution, even. You saw how Mike reacted, that psychic link is sunk so deeply into our primal emotions that it will always effect how we react to Zoe. Even without it, our reactions have been set into patterns we're ill equiped to carry out."

"He's stuck," Taylor explained again, patiently. She chuckled as Jack dropped his dark predator of the night aspect to scoop JJ up in what looked to be a bone crunching hug, "Honey, breathing might be unneccesary but he's still fond of those ribs." Taylor said with amusement before glancing at the young man Jack was currently hugging, "As for you, didn't I ever tell you that the Blinovitch Limitation Effect is entirely a work of fiction? You're not going to wink out of existance that easily, sweetheart. Certainly not after the effort that went into your creation."
-
Alex made a wry little laugh that sounded too old and too broken to be any noise that should ever come from Alex's lips and turned towards the large window. "You don't understand, Erin, you can't. She's in my head, all the time, and so angry and hurt and scared that it rips at me all the time. Awake or asleep, I can't get away from it. I can't make it better and its destroying me." Alex folded her arms under her breasts and stared out blindly into the night. She reached out to touch the glass with her fingertips, her profile hard in the light, "She cries out for me in her sleep, that relationship hard coded in the psychic link we share and spends all day shoving me away from her. I violated my ethics tonight to save her pain. I am not just someone who shares her mother's face. It isn't that simple. Selfishly, I wish it was that simple. Often. I'm not such a martyr that I'd do this all if I saw another option but I don't. I don't know what more to do except to keep moving forward."
-
"There was a launch. Two, in fact and unless I am sorely mistaken, the next will no doubt be even more destructive as they refine the technique. Lets head to the headquarters. I can access AEON files from there," Alex said decisively, turning to the rest from where she'd been staring up at the sky still. "I don't want to sound dire, but I imagine they're working up to a global scale from city wide."

Phantom held his hand again and James found himself as intangible as the guardian herself before she drew them both through the looking glass into a world gone mad. Gravity itself had no bearing, there was no up or down as stairs led to nowhere and buildings floated sideways, sheared off at sudden angles. People that were no humanoid type James had ever seen didn't seem to notice their presence or the sheer wrongness of the world as the bustled about their day. "This place is sealed from the coil to keep it from shredding the dimensions around it. Too many refugees and the balance tipped, coliding one world into the other and ripping them both apart." Phantom said, her tone matter of fact but the very wrongness of this place thundered in her heart. "And this is the best case scenario. Sometimes it sends both dimensions down to be ground apart by the Terminus. Or worse, it leaves a hole for the cthonian monsters that live Outside to worm their way in. You cannot evacuate people on so large a scale, and this is why."
-
With one last light laugh and a running start, Bombshell dove off the building with absolute glee. She landed nimbly on one laundry line that ran from one building to the next and slid down it, only to flip at the last second and land on a ledge. Barely pausing, she was off again, flipping and tumbling her way from one rooftop to the next, never pausing to second guess herself or hesitate as she dodged her way around obstacles in a truly hither and yon path that Jack of all Blades only understood being a premier acrobat himself. You took your handholds where you could find them, after all.

Alex settled her in the chair and tucked her hands in her lap before she blinked at the headmaster and launched into a recitation of the chain of events as memory perfect as only someone with a truly eidetic memory could have accomplished. He'd asked for an unscreened and factual account, so that was what Alex gave him down to the nuanced detail as quickly and as coherently as she could manage. When the facts had been recited, Alex moved onto her opinions of the important events. "Before Eddie teleported the car into the ballroom, I erased thirty or so seconds of the memories of the student body. I left alone those directly affected by the situation as well as the other students with psychic ability." Alex said quietly, her voice still sounding loud to her in the stillness of the office. Her gaze flicked down to her hands, subdued, before she forced it back up to meet the headmaster's gaze. "I'm aware that it was ethically inappropriate. I apologize for my actions, sir, but I have to stand by my choices nonetheless. I couldn't stand by and let the memories of that violation remain not when it was within my power to remove them. I love my family, Mr. Summers, and I had to protect them where I could."
-
Alex hesitated and then nodded, rubbing the bridge of her nose with her fingertips lightly as she considered her options, "If the two of you could take over here and make certain that the ballroom is cleared out and nothing else goes wrong, I would very much appreciate it. I believe that Mike's going to a diner with Zoe and perhaps I will meet them there. I can send an email from my phone on the way that will brief enough. Thank you both."

"Here you go... Its a small house on the edge of the water. A little ways out of town but I think that means you'll have less to worry about with neighbors and all." Psyche said, tapping a few keys as she brought up a small cottage that was more of a weekend get away by inception than a house. "How does that look? Or would you like somewhere closer in?"

Phantom's making with her dimensional ESP for Freedom City in the vampires world but if Jack's got some ideas on narrowing the search, she's open to em!
-
"I can scry from here," Phantom offered before turning her head away from the group and her eyes took on that soft pulsing glow that the rest of the Midnighters had learned was her 'busy' signal. She floated there utterly motionless, not breathing or twitching as her eyes moved back and forth scanning the area in the Freedom City beyond the veil. Eventually her nose wrinkled in distaste under the thick leather of her mask. "Found it. Now let me see if I can find Avenger's doppelganger. Honey?" She didn't glance over at Avenger but the invitation for suggestions on where to start looking was clear.

DC23 Toughness save. And I've edited my post above with my rolls.
-
I got a 21 which means I roll half on the second. Is that right? Wait a sec, didn't see that was a Fort save. *sigh* 1d20+2=4 Ouch, I'll reroll that. 1d20+2=8 That's an 18 this time. Thank goodness. Toughness: 1d20+9=24

'Unsurprising,' Alex's response flickered through his thoughts, tinged with the mixed layers of her emotions. Weary resignation, a little dread and a stalwart resolution to get through the next how ever many unpleasant hours of her life this would be. She closed the laptop she'd been working on and walked down from the dorms to the office, her hands tucked in her pockets. She was dressed for herself today, in a bright print tank top and jeans with multicolor patches that had been attacked at some point with a bedazzler. Her long red hair was pulled back in a simple ponytail held in place by a clip that had both glitter covered flowers and puffy bees that jiggled with every movement of her head. She exchanged pleasantries with the receptionist before being shown into the office. Alex rocked a little on her sneakered toes but kept her chin up to look at that man rather than down at her feet. "Good afternoon, Mr. Summers." Alex said politely.
-
"You still have your Young Freedom beacon, you can use that to go see him if that's what you want to do. I'm not taking it away from you," Alex said gently as she stepped back to release him, knowing that he had to walk the rest of this path by himself. "Although, he might not be easy to find. Its summer and a weekend. Do what you need to do, Eddie." She turned to Erin, her thought following James as he transported back to his ship more weary than her speaking voice was as it was shaded by the emotion she kept quietly contained, 'I really am no better or worse than anyone else, James. We all have our moments of rising above and falling below. I'm here if you need to talk.' Then she finished her pivot to Erin, her wide eyes dark and sober in her pale face. "No, thank you, though. I will find Daisy and speak with her about stopping this nonsense, but not tonight. I'm sure that Zoe and Mike will need me and..." Alex's shoulders sagged, her fingertips going to the bridge of her nose for a moment before she straightened resolutely as she pushed down the bubble of exhaustion to be dealt with later. "I should email Summers myself about things."
-
Alex tucked her hand into Mike's hand and beamed at Mark. She gave her boyfriend's fingertips a gentle squeeze of assurance, "Of course we'd be honored to help. Its a real treat for all of us."
-
"Ah," Taylor said as if that all made a great deal of sense to her and continued to pat his cheeks, before moving onto his shoulders and frowning as if she was about to prod him to eat more. It was a chilling moment as Taylor realized that she really was turning into her mother. Instead she pointed out, "You're going to have to prove who you are to your father a bit more. He's, well..." Paranoid. Suspicious. Not nearly as trained in the mystical arts as he plays off... Taylor settled on, "Let's just say that any additional peace of mind, really isn't a bad thing. Jack, you could ask him questions, I suppose. What would ease your mind?"
-
"Fabulous," Talya drawled before reaching up to unfasten her jacket and looked for a place to hang it out of the way of cheetos and soda pop. "Well, if nothing else, it will remind me once again while I've avoided parenthood in my long years for at least another decade. Always a good thing to hit the snooze on that little biological clock." She slanted a smile at the angel, ducking around his wings to tuck her clothing out of the way before rejoining the men, "I do look forward to your audition, Heyzel. I'm sure that will be just lovely. Far better than God Save the Queen. Fond of the lovely lady as I am, its really a terrible anthem. Droning. Rather like an Episcopal ceremony."

Bombshell has skill mastery for a 20 on notice checks.

Alex mentally provided Zoe's location to Mike along with, 'I'll be there when you two need me.' as she stood up from where she'd been perched. With only a small nod to Sage, she scooted around to the shelf and picked up the Kleenex. Alex didn't have any speeches for him, she just went over to stick the Kleenex in his hand and then pulled Eddie gently into her arms, pushing his head down on her slender shoulder as she slipped her arms around his waist and waited patiently for Eddie to cry himself out.
