  1. "This one likes her!" the Metaceptor declared cheerfully to his template, setting down on the ground and starting off in the direction Echo had indicated. "You're part Lynn, you probably like everybody." "Was?" "Never mind." The drop the vehicles were parked beside dropped down four or five feet to the river, the rushing water reflecting moonlight this far away from regular streetlamps or other lights of the city. The bank was too stoney to hold footprints well but the path tapered off into nothing in one direction and widened into useability as it wound toward the forest making their next move immediately evident. "Well, down we go, I guess," Jack mused, hopping over the edge and landing nimbly with only the faintest sound of loose pebbles shifting under his boots.
  2. "...ask me again once we get this other thing sorted out," Jack grumbled after a moment of silence, just barely loud enough to be heard over the rush of wind and the light, evening traffic below them. At the pace the Metaceptor was setting they didn't have much breath left for philosophical discussion anyway as the taller building began to this out and Jack had to rely more on dramatic parkour leaps and tumbles than on his grappling line. Making good time, it wasn't long before they came to the bank of the Wading River, Lantern Hill to their right and the Wharton State Forest looming upstream. The Metaceptor came to a halt there, hovering a few inches above the ground and looking about, facial features still shifting disconcertingly around his small frown. When Jack started to ask if he still knew where they were going, the confused clone silenced him with a waving hand. "Quiet, other Jack! Can't you hear them?" Frowning himself now, the swordsman cocked his head to one side. "Hear what?" The doppelganger tapped the side of his own head insistently. "In here!" While the pair began to argue, Echo recognized one of the sedans she'd seen leaving Bench's campaign office parked along the edge of a small drop before the river along with an expensive looking luxury van.
  3. With a muffled sound that was more annoyed and confused than anything else, Ghost Girl righted herself, rising into the air until her feet were pointing in the right direction again. Giving her head a shake and rubbing her sternum tenderly, Kimber blinked blearily at Koshiro's proffered hand. Reaching out she poked an immaterial index finger a centimeter or two into the origami master's chest. "Just checking. I'm okay, it just-- oh!" Recovering her bearings enough to notice Tarva and her shadow clones nearby, the poltergeist rushed forward. She wrapped her arms around the sorceress from behind, under one arm and over the opposite shoulder, forming parallel bands of pale, translucent blue over the writhing penumbra of Tarva's chest. "I'm okay, we're okay!" she insisted in a low, shushing tone, more distressed to see the other woman worked up than she had been at being unexpectedly tossed about like a ragdoll. She pressed her cheek into the crook of Tarva's neck and where spirit met shadow she was as palpably solid as she had been to the auroch's horns. "Sorry, sorry! Didn't mean to scare you, I'm okay."

  8. "I shall remain close at hand," Sekhmet declared, arms folded as she leaned against the wall in the spot where she'd maintained her vigil throughout the ordeal. "Know, physician, that thy have the blessing of thy calling's patron in thy endeavors!" None of the medics seemed entirely sure how to respond to the unlikely goddess of medicine but since she'd already demonstrated her very real ability to keep the actor stabilized while they'd all waited on the cure it seemed prudent to stay on good terms. "Success be surely guaranteed, in that case!" Set agreed, guiding Eliza and Sharl into one of the suite's adjacent rooms with a hand gently pushing on small of each of their backs. Nominally a bedroom it was as large as most other entire hotel rooms, with its own collections of armchairs, a desk and private bathroom. The godling's touch was familiar with an underlying note of tentativeness, carefully watching the couple's reactions as his fingertips lingered distinctly longer than strictly necessary, trailing upward between shoulder blades before he turned to close the door quietly behind them. "Best to let them work in peace, methinks," he added reasonably, wandering further into the room with his hands on the waistband on his shendyt. "Laudable work procuring the cure, oh digital defender! I was only just proclaiming to the elegant Eliza that we made a surprisingly excellent combination."

  10. Kimber's first instinct was to try to restrain the charging beasts in a layer of ice but she'd learned from her encounter with Velkr's pet boar. Instead she took a moment while Eric's light show and Eve's telekinetically enhanced acrobatics had the massive creatures distracted to swoop down next to Tarva with a reassuring smile. "Don't worry, we deal with this sort of stuff all the time! Just stay behind everybody where it's safe and we'll be done soon, okay?" She didn't really doubt that the shadow priestess could hold her own if push came to shove but the last thing any of them wanted was a desperate Tarva backed into a corner. Making a beeline for the last of the aurochs still looking for a fight she let an immaterial hand sink through its fur and thick hide, raking her fingers through the bull's essence. "C'mon, big fella, take a nap...!" The beast didn't seem particularly impressed by her attempts to weaken it, its size making the phantom a gnat by comparison as it snorted out a blast of preternaturally frigid air through its nostrils. It tossed its head angrily and to Ghost Girl's shock the flat of its horns connected with her ephemeral form as solidly as a tree trunk falling atop an unsuspecting bush. The poltergeist was tossed back through the air with a startled yelp, sinking halfway into the snow where she landed with a pained groan.

  12. With a surprised grunt, the armored man at the door toppled over, his helmet clanging loudly against the tile of the mall floor. To Sekhmet it sounded like nothing so much as the starting bell on a boxing ring and with acrid smoke still rising from her shendyt the goddess surged forward. Literally using the guard at the door as a stepping stone she launched herself at the closest of the criminals still standing, still reeling from Oracle's widespread assault and tackled him at the waist. The embattled pair were flung backward into one of the store's display cases, the glass shattering noisily but the metal frame providing more than enough impact against the startled thief. A merciless punch under the chin left him in an unconscious pile while Sekhmet wheeled upon the leader of the group with her unusually prominent canines bared for a feline roar.

  14. The authentic Jack of all Blades didn't seem particularly surprised that Echo had decided to follow after him, simply grunting a vague acknowledgement and adjusting his swinging trajectory to make it easier for her to stay within earshot as the sped across the city. He wouldn't have left the mystery to be solved by someone else either, had he been in her shoes. He glanced at the young woman's feet, trying to get a read on her particular powerset and deciding it wasn't a priority. Instead he called out loudly enough to be heard over the rush of wind. "Alright, so listen, short version," the swordsman began, choosing his words carefully as he somersaulted through the empty air between two buildings. "A while back there was this whole thing where a... a guy I was supposed to be able to trust lost it. It wasn't... Well, it was a whole thing. Anyway." Between all the movement and the bandana mask covering the top third of his face it was tough to read Jack's expression but it was clear that this wasn't something he wanted to be discussing at all let alone with a stranger. This tense frustration over the situation was starting to make more sense. "Among other stuff he combined the powers of a bunch of our friends into an army of Grue clones. I think Grue are maybe already clones? Not really the right guy to be explaining the 'how' part of it. We stopped him and we thought we rounded up all the Metaceptors, but..." He cast a significant look toward the back of the bounding figure they were racing after.

  18. The grammatically challenged brigand immediately collapsed to his knees under Oracle's assault, elbow buckling as he attempted to support his own weight against the crushing ennui of a life wasted. Three more of the armored criminals lurched about as they failed to completely fight through the tide of weaponized depression. The unbalanced blasts of red-gold energy they launched at the petite telepath went wide, one of the attacks splashing against the oversized celebrity endorsement for a luxury watch brand plastered against the far wall of the mall and reducing it to a blackened scorch mark. The obvious leader of the group and the member of the group guarding the door, however, demonstrated why they had been entrusted with the most important roles for the heist. Sloughing off the mental attack, the latter snapped off a shot from his staff which Sekhmet nimbly ducked under as she charged forward-- only to be caught squarely in the chest by twin gouts of angry plasma launched by the head criminal. The warrior goddess was sent flying backward with a pained yowl, cracking loudly into the guardrail that separated the second floor of the mall from the open air overlooking the ground level. Groaning, she struggled to rise back to her feet, angrily shaking her head in an effort to force her swimming vision to refocus.

  21. Since Oracle's Emotion Control is a General Area effect - as opposed to a Targeted Area effect - she's not rolling attack and doesn't need to Take 10 (Emotion Control is Perception range by default as well). Also because it's a General Area effect its rank is capped at her power level, for a DC 10 + 10 = 20 Will Save. Remember, Toughness Saves are DC 15 + Rank while 'Exotic' Saves (Fortitude, Reflex and Will) are DC 10 + Rank. Also worth noting that Despair and Fear are mechanically different effects, particularly relevant when the target has Fearless, a fairly common feat, or a similar immunity to one or more emotional effects. Despair works just as you've described above while failing a save against a Fear effect by 5 or more can cause the target to flee the scene. Given the in-character description I'd say Despair is the more appropriate effect so we'll go with that. But moving on! 23. The armored robber under Oracle's sway shuddered oddly, his movements awkward and lurching as he lifted his staff weapon away from the terrified shoppers and turned it toward his partner, muttering all the while. Confused and in growing alarm the other criminal took a step back, bumping into the store's glass cases. "Sam? What're-- The master, uh, decreed we stay in character throughout the, y'know, the job. Are thee good?" The first robber quavered in his place for a moment before grunting, "Nnnh... W... Ugh... Well, Arnie. Am I 'well'. We've been over-- Grah, my head!" Planting the butt of his staff against the ground as a crutch and gripping the side of his helmet with his free hand, he cast about until he spotted Oracle outside the store's front door. "Her! The kid with the eyes, she's some kinda mind freak!" Looking between Oracle and Sekhmet, the head of the armored gang growled and raised his wrist-mounted weapons. "Slay them both!"

  25. Jack flipped through the dayplanner, stubbornly refusing to comment any further on Echo's teleporting and unique relationship with the concept of up and down. It took him a few passes to figure out what the reality manipulator was eluding to and even once he'd found the conspicuous gaps he didn't seem entirely convinced. "So he doesn't like working late on Mondays? Him and obese orange tabbies. Not sure that's enough to-- woah!" With reflexes that proved the next best thing to Echo's teleporting, Jack launched himself into the air to land in a crouch atop a desk, narrowly pulling the book out of the path of his doppelganger's energized 'sword-finger'. "More than enough!" the shapeshifter crowed as he straightened from his lunge, seeming more enthusiastic than aggressive as he gestured animatedly with his crackling weapon. "Bench is planning! Planung! Plot-ot-ot-ot--" Once again he had to shake himself to get over the unnerving record-skipping tic and move on. As he did, the pupils disappeared momentarily from behind his bandana mask, his eyes left a uniform, milky off-white. It was hard to tell if they were reflecting the light from his sword or luminous themselves. "This one's sword-sense is tingling! This one will lead the way! Interceptors, go!" Bounding forward he crashed through the front pane window with mass and momentum far outstripping what a human his size should have possessed, using another burst of super-speed to run up the walls of the adjacent building and start leaping merrily along the rooftops. "I don't have a--" the real Jack began before his sentence dissolved into a series of creative curses. "Alright, I know this looks bad," he admitted to Echo as he ran out of the office after his double, firing the cable of his grappling line and launching into the air.
