The Grue is Corona's squad, looking somewhat ropey in their default form even with armor on compared to their more muscle-bound solid allies, raised a hairless red brow in confusion. "This one is not Lor. Does Corona-Commander still require this one to move forward?" "I think the Commander's doin' her best to just ignore ya, Jy'mm," the indigo hued humanoid marching next to them snorted, two clusters of four small eyes each blinking as he shifted his grim on his rifle. "Her sort ain't exactly quick to come around to folks on account of where they're from." Jy'mm creased their brow more heavily, following the rest of the squad's lead as they formed up to the right of the group being led by the Terran. "This one left the Unity to no longer feel disposable, Ron-Digo." "Soldier mighta been the wrong career path, then, bud-- hey, you feel that?" Ron-Digo wasn't the only one to notice the faint rumbling sound or the tremors conducted by the computronium to their boots. All around heads swiveled back and forth trying to spot the source but there was no sign of enemy presence from either end of the gorge and a single click from Redbird in Wander's earpiece indicated that the wide, flat plains to either side of them remained just as empty.

"Well, it's tough to argue with that," Erik agreed easily, leaning into the embrace with his wife, wrapping his arms around her shoulders. "I seem to recall you playing a pretty active role in the whole process, too, though. You know how easily suggestible I can be." Letting go he dropped gracefully down to a crouch, placing a hand on either side of Min's belly and addressing their second child even while he kept his eyes on the white haired woman's face. "Hey, try to go easy on your mom, there, alright? She's not getting any younger, you know. She's not getting any older, either, sure, but still." Pulling the bathrobe open slightly he placed a gentle kiss on her stomach, a smirk pulling at the corner of his lips.

"On the subject of coffee I could not hazard a guess; I am something of a 'health nut', as they say," the Dakanan noted with a touch of apology, though not enough to cover the thinly veiled boast. "As for the school, though..." Tilting his head significantly he drew Stesha's attention across the street to the black-backed gold lettering that proclaimed the building there the 'Espadas School of Self-Defense and Swordsmanship!' "The exclamation point is a nice touch. I rather like the proprietor's sense of style." He turned back around to give the shorter woman a politely curious look. "I have heard American cities can be dangerous for beautiful women. Or are you perhaps a fencer? Ah! My manners. I am Nassor." He gave his name a bit of a flourish and offered his hand. "Easy now, mon ami verte," the voice behind Chris soothed, sounding well amused. "Had I wished you ill I truly have no problem attacking a man from behind. I would feel worse about disturbing this lovely pièce de jardin dans la ville. Nor have I counted myself among the House since before you were born, unless I miss my guess." Geckoman could hear the other man take a slow step further away from him, his footfalls light. "Come, we'll split the difference. I'll keep my hands raised where you can see them, you may turn around and we'll speak like gentleman, oui?"

"It's, um, it's sort of really long story," the specter admitted in an apologetic tone, putting most of her attention into keeping her feet on the ground and appearing corporeal for a few moments less because she thought anyone might be watching and more because it let her delay a little longer. It had suddenly struck her how much she was imposing on Eric and she was second guessing herself - or third or forth or eighteenth guessing, as the case might have been. "It's just that I couldn't talk to Renarde about it, 'cause she's like for-reals, truly gay, like all 'boys smell and leave the seat up' only way more clever and cutting, I'd feel like such a poseur and Wraith never ever complains about not being able to date anybody here and her people don't even totally have genders, like I'm pretty sure she doesn't even get that her human form is super hot!" She balled her hands into fist and knocked them against her forehead a few times. "See, and I'm around them all the time and they're both super pretty so I'd have totally known if I was into girls like that like forever ago, right? It's just really confusing and I don't want to waste your time being neurotic like a crazy person!"

Tucking his smartphone away into the inner pocket of the light tan sport coat he wore over a dark blue polo, the bald man turned to give Stesha a warm smile full of pearly white teeth that drew attention to cheek bones that could have cut glass. "Ah, indeed I do not, madame," he replied in a buttery accent that Stesha was well-traveled enough to recognize as Dakanan, inclining slightly at the waist in a faint implication of a bow. "Perhaps I may still be of service, though? Where are you trying to go?" He spread his hands in a gesture equally casual and inviting that perhaps coincidentally provided a better view of the sort of powerfully athletic frame most people would have associated with a swimmer. Up on the rooftop of the Espadas School, Geckoman was provided both a direct view of the conversation and copious shadows in which to conceal himself, bright green outfit or no. It didn't hurt that Min had added her own touches to the exterior of the building, climbing vines of ivy snaking up the brick walls to join with an impressive rooftop garden that practically made his costume appropriate camouflage. It was all in all an excellent hiding place. "Well, I wouldn't trust him," a French-tinged tenor voice offered from behind him, clear and relaxed though pitched so as not to carry. "Much too handsome, si je peux mets mon grain de sel."

Kimber froze in the elevator as Tarva exited, playing back the last exchange in her head and trying to figure out how to rewind the conversation. She belated flew out into hall, the door closing through the fluttering tail of he cloak as she watched the Nihilor expatriate walk quickly away with her mouth hanging partially open, trying to come up with a way to call for Tarva to stop and talk to her without it sounding like an order. By the time Tarva had rounded the corner and moved out of view, the phantom was still wracking his mind to no avail. Slapping her palms over her eyes and spinning in a tight circle, she made a strained sound between gritted teeth. Finally passing her threshold for repression, she stuck her head through the closed elevator doors so that she was inside the empty shaft up to her shoulders and let out a keening wail of bottled frustration the echoes down throughout the entire skyscraper, unearthly and blood-chilling. Pulling back into the hall she let her shoulders slump and her immaterial form fade from view before floating off to find some secluded corner of the castle conducive to being properly miserable.

Kimber floated a good foot away from Tarva at as she began, the poltergeist's lips compressing into a thin line. She was generous enough to assume the Terminus refugee wasn't toying with her intentionally but she found she had considerably less patience for Tarva's 'on stage' persona just then. "Stop it, you don't have to--" At the carefully calculated wailing, however, she turned to look at the sorceress directly again, something too cold to be called irritation flashing is eyes gone from seawater blue to near-white flecks of ice. It took Tarva a moment to realize that the ghost was looking past her, listening to something hanging just past her shoulder and she could have sworn the elevator rattled a bit in its shaft. The intense look faded and Kimber looked away again, raising a hand in a vague wave, her voice hurried and distant. "Forget it. I don't remember. I mean, I'd have to forget, eh? How could you ever be happy again remembering something like that? I'd have to be a whole different person."

KImber made a plaintive but resigned sort of moan, stuffing her face with spectral essence of sweet bun partly by way of comfort but mostly just to buy herself a few moments before speaking. "I... guess that's kinda what I figured. Um, thanks for, you know, telling me that." It was a little hard for her to imagine a version of Eric who wasn't completely sure of himself and in possession of all the answers. Even with the passage of time and the perspective of the present, if it was half as difficult to talk about as what she'd been agonizingly working toward it struck her as quite the gesture. "So, I guess you probably already figured but, ah, th-there's this girl. Um. Woman," she corrected herself, the glum lines of her face subtly changing until she looked less like she was in her late teens and more like her early twenties. It was about how she might have looked had she been able to physically age in the time since they'd met, Eric realized. "Only it's complicated. Truly, outrageously complicated."

Standing behind Erin, Trevor regarded the giant snowman in silence for several second before calmly retrieving his sunglasses from a pocket in his jacket and placing them upon his face. That done, he turned to give Redbird a significant look, the Night Cycle still parked where he'd left it. The autonomic machine intelligence managed to convey a hapless shrug into her tone of voice despite lacking any shoulders. "I cannot imagine what you think I could have done to dissuade them." The handlebars of the motorcycle turned on their own toward the towering sculpture and back to the door to the house, where Midnight could only grunt in agreement, glancing over to gauge the White's reaction.

Addendum A few clarifications: A new Freedom's Finest Featuring thread will be started once a month, generally on the first of the month unless something specific prevents it. While some ideas suggested here may ultimately be used for other threads there will be just one new Freedom's Finest Featuring thread per month, in emulation of a monthly comic book publication. Not every thread pitched here will ultimately happen. Suggested team-ups will almost certainly outpace the monthly schedule. Freedom's Finest also is not first-come-first-served; I will be prioritizing characters most in need of exposure and more importantly characters and players with whom I'm excited to run a thread. And that's alright! It's important that newer players understand not to become discouraged if their Freedom's Finest idea isn't immediately picked up for the following month. The entire Campaign Discussion forum exists to help you find people to have threads with and there are plenty of more established players willing and able to help get you started. As stated above, this is just one of many such opportunities. In fact, this should be a great place to find out about other new characters you might want to thread with as well! With that in mind, while it's perfectly alright to be disappointed if your pitch isn't chosen remember that complaining or throwing shade at characters or players you consider somehow 'less deserving' is a sure way to drop to the bottom of the list. We're all here to have fun so play nice! If you have any further questions, ask away! Excelsior!

Face forward, true believers! In the spirit of Marvel Team-Up and The Brave and The Bold comes Freedom's Finest! Each month I'll be running a team-up adventure for a newer player character and one of my own characters at request! The idea is to give new players and established players with new characters a chance to dive into the world of Freedom City and beyond, letting them show their stuff and jumpstarting connections with existing heroes, just like those classic team-up comics! Naturally not every team-up idea will make it into a monthly installment of Freedom's Finest, with preference being given to players who have been active for less than a year and to pitches that spark my interest! What should a pitch look like? Something along these lines: "My super-serious dark avenger and the wise-cracking Jack of all Blades arrive to foil the same jewel heist and have to overcome their personality differences to work together and stop the thieves!" "My impetuous telepath is out patrolling after curfew and runs into Midnight. Realizing she can't read his mind, she mistakes the shadowy figure for a villain and leaps into action!" "My pyrokinetic character is a student at Joseph Clark High School. Maybe he could go to Wail for advice on whether to maintain a secret identity or go public, now that he's got powers?" In other words, post in this thread telling me a little about your character, which of my PCs you think they should team-up with and why! The idea can be combat-based or purely social, so long as it's interesting! Details can be worked out in private messages and ideas that aren't picked for the following month will still be up for consideration going forward! It bears mentioning that this is hardly the only way for a new player or new character to get involved in threads, it's merely one more opportunity - and a good way for my own characters to meet some fresh faces, too! So who's available for team-ups? Glad you asked! Jack of all Blades - This community-minded, acrobatic hero creates energy swords and leads the low-power, high-impact team The Interceptors! The only thing faster than his blade is his tongue; his confrontational style is amusing to some and aggravating to others! Jill O'Cure - Younger sister to Jack of all Blades, Jill is a part-time medical student, part-time EMT, full-time source of deadpan snark. She uses her force fields and healing powers in defence of the West End and her biokinetic attacks to bring villains to their knees! Midnight II - Grandson and heir to Freedom City's original mystery man, Midnight is a shadowy figure of few words. Unmatched on a motorcycle and with a gadget for every situation, he brings his tactical acumen to the Liberty League's fight against fascism across the multiverse. Wail - The last surviving member of the 70s super team 1-800-JUSTICE, today Keith LaMarr works as a civics teacher at Joseph Clark High School. That doesn't stop Lincoln's sonic shouting, super tough, brick house of a hero from teaching fools a lesson! Ghost Girl - A cold, lonely death in the forests outside Thunder Bay was the end of one story and the start of another! This teenage poltergeist is a ray of sunshine and the chill of the grave all wrapped up in one incorporeal, effervescent package, freezing evil in its tracks! Set - In the Silver Age, Set the Destroyer was one of the Freedom League's most dangerous foes but that was then and this is now! This social media savvy rogue is looking to rehabilitate his - and just as often her - tarnished image and to look good doing it! Sekhmet - Not everyone is so ready to believe that the reincarnated Set has reformed and this warrior goddess has been saddled with keeping and eye on the trickster's antics. While she's in the mortal realm She Before Whom Evil Trembles stands ever stalwart! Rock - The stoney strongman of Captain Eclipse's crew on the Horizon is a walking quarry for hire with a heart of gold and fists of granite! Bodyguard, treasure hunter, smuggler, freedom fighter and more, you don't want to get stuck between Rock and a hard place! Nae-Dae - Rock's four-armed, foul-tempered companion, this Irreran wrench monkey can fix anything with nuts and bolts and is liable to try stealing anything that isn't nailed down! Sticking up for an underdog, though, is when she brings out the big guns! Reagent - A concoction gone wrong encased this teenage alchemist in stone, taking her from Victorian England to modern day Freedom City! If the culture shock wasn't enough, when in danger she transforms into an unstoppable behemoth: the Alkahest! You'll find links to all of their sheets in my signature. So be brave! Be bold! Be counted among Freedom's Finest!

Even taking the stairs two at a time Erik still paused for a moment to give Yolanda a broad grin and place a grateful hand on Steve's shoulder. The former was undisputedly a great kid and the fencer felt a little surge of confidence about bringing a new life into the world just by looking at the serious girl. With the latter keeping watch, well, it was tough to be too worried about any of the more immediate threats on his mind. "Keep up the good work, guys," he complimented before rushing past them into the bedroom and hurrying over to his wife. "Hey, florecita, you alright? What can I get you?" Downstairs Ellie sauntered over to the table covered in electronics to tease Liz, "Well, she probably meant one of the good supervillains, Witchiepoo. Which is to say a bad one." She wrapped an arm around Mara's waist long enough to lean over and kiss the engineer on the cheek before adding, "Min's fine, she's just not much better at sitting around inside waiting than mi hermano." Ellie would have generally described her sister-in-law as a fairly patient person but this was obviously something the dryad was ready to have over with. "You get anything good, Green Jeans?" A small beep sounded from Vince's laptop and the well dressed avatar on the screen made a show of pulling a length of old-fashioned perforated printer paper covered in data from somewhere 'off screen' and scrutinizing it with a pair of spectacles that had appeared on his nose. "Hm, ahm, hm. One of your little fly-guys just sent an alert," he related to Mara, more for the benefit of the rest of the room than the technopath herself. "There's a passerby who's been hanging out in the area long enough to tick over into 'statistically unlikely'. Could be something, could be nothing. By the by, you gotta teach these things to talk like normal people, they don't get any of my jokes!"

Set looked up from his phone to smirk and reply, "There are precious few things on any plane which Set be not in to." He'd spent most of the shooting schedule snapping photos and typing away, providing a steady stream of content to various social media feeds. Somewhat less obvious was that several of the extras and even a few of the crew numbered among his followers, providing him with an ad hoc spy network between glances at the darkened corners of the club. There was little doubt in his mind that Madame Marvelous would make another attempt to steal the show; it's what he would have done in her place, after all. Stepping away from her self-appointed role as Gemmen's personal bodyguard, Sekhmet snorted, "'Up to' be more likely." The shorter Heliopolian shrugged. "In to, up to, up in, down on, get off..." he innocently ticked off on his fingers, eliciting a disgusted growl from the leonine goddess.

The proffered pastry floated out of Eric's hand to rotate lazily in the air in front of Kimber, who picked at the ephemeral essence of the bun before letting it sink back into its physical shell over and over, fidgeting. "R-right, well, um," she started hesitatingly, avoiding looking at the barista directly. "So hey, you know how you, like, like-like girls and boys? That's totally a necromancy thing, eh?" The words came out in a rush with barely any break between words, undercutting the nonchalant tone she was struggling to affect. "Like, you get used to seeing people's spirits and thinking about big life slash death questions so the flesh and blood corporeal bodies don't really matter as much? That's just a normal thing that happens, right? Yeah." It was pretty clear from the way she was intently poking at the sweet roll with one hand and fiddling with the hair at the nape of her neck with the other that she already knew what his answer was going to be and was trying to convince herself more than anyone.

With a boisterous acknowledgement, Redbird adjusted her chassis such that the Nightryde faded entirely from view both to Wander's naked eye and the more varied senses and equipment of her squad. From up above the autonomic machine intelligence was able to confirm what Roulette's scouting had already told him: while the gorge was more that wide enough for an entire squad to stand shoulder to shoulder and the terrain had numerous outcroppings and smaller caverns, all converted into glossy computronium in the conversion of the planet, they were still ultimately stuck with only one route between where they stood and where they needed to end up. With Wander's squad taking point, the troopers and their commanders descended into the canyon, the walls rising up on either side of of them until only a stretch of sky was visible beyond, fading into black as the planet's night cycle rapidly approached. Ekna turned out to be the only one of his team willing to come within several meters of the Terran, unhappily assuming a position to watch her back by default. The combat engineer who'd introduced herself to Eclipse as Jacia stuck close by the Alarian, evidently taking her new position as second-in-command seriously as she waited for orders or any opportunity to be of help. The bounty hunters in Roulette's squad seemed happy enough to pick from among their fellows to form the suggested fire teams but the rest of the troopers were quickly losing patience with their commander's antics, even as Jilinson-08 did his best to maintain order. One of Corona's squad, a heavyset Lor woman with dark teal splotches about her pale temples that suggested at least some mixed heritage, marched close enough to speak to her. "I recognize the hardsuit, you know," the trooper told her, just loud enough that the chance of someone overhearing lingered. Corona's armor might have been modified and weathered but standard issue was standard issue underneath it all. "Outback Overwatch Patrol & Survey. They're a joke, which makes you the punchline. How do you rate command?"

"O-oh! It's not a very exciting story..." Kimber admitted, surprised by both the specific question and to hear Tarva speak at all after the long silence. She bobbed in the air, looking surreptitiously at the sorceress' reflection. "You know how I'm from Thunder Bay? That's in Canada, north of here, it's really nice! I actually have to go back there sometime to, um, a-anyway, I could see if you're allowed to come along if you wanted to see more of Earth?" She paused for a moment, turning her chin to face away from Tarva and looking at nothing in particular before remembering the original query. "But it gets pretty cold there, sometimes, and I was in the woods and got lost and I was all by myself and then I froze to death! So!" Her voice raised almost a full octave between the beginning of the sentence and the end, full of forced cheer and levity. She wondered if that had anything to do with how much she liked being around people, feeling close to them. She hoped not; after hearing about the lengths Tarva had gone to to survive the story of her death felt pathetic enough without adding any more baggage.
