"So bottling sights and sounds from faraway as lightning and sending them invisibly through the air around the globe to a little box in your hand isn't exciting?" Set responded to Miras first, planting his hands on his hips. "And they tis only millennials who have been spoiled by technology. Tis on account of such jaded reckoning that I felt the need to... embellish thy summons," the godling continued, turning to Sun Walker with a florid bow that matched the simian hero's polite tone. "When a god of chaos asks one to step into his whirlpool of shadows, one might be forgiven some reasonable apprehension and time was truly of the essence!" Set's considerably less animated companion spoke up, "You have the apologies of Sekhmet, Eye of Ra for the deception, mortals." The last word had a very distinctly feline growl to it and was accompanied by a scathing glare in the shorter deity's direction. "The liesmith shall of course submit to any punishment thy deem appropriate when our labours be complete." "Shall I?" Set asked in a tone of amused surprise. "That does not sound like me. The stripey spearmint one seems to have the right of things, eh? A proverb involving a scorpion comes to mind, in fac--" His ramblings were cut short by Arrowhawk's far less accommodating reaction to the situation. If the godling was stung by the archer's pointedly dismissive tone it was far outweighed by apparent delight. "So growly!" he cheered, clapping his hands and giving Sekhmet a smug look. "And you said twas folly recruiting someone who fights monsters with 'a stick and bit of string'." "His arms be... impressively proportioned," the warrior goddess allowed with a faint cough, crossing her arms under her chest and making an effort not to meet Arrowhawk's masked eyes directly. "As though pythons swallowed cantaloupes! If my elder self's many ignoble defeats taught me but one thing, tis that one should always bring an archer to a god fight. This one tis even sober!" Sekhmet sniffed the air and pursed her lips, catching the faint scent of whisky on the air. "Not entirely sober," she observed. Set shrugged. "He fights monsters with a stick and bit of string. How sober would you have him be? Speaking of monsters, however--" He was again interrupted by an explosive rumble from the direction of the sand covered ruins in the distance, multiple plumes of ominous smoke rising into the air. "Hmph. One cannot fault his dramatic timing, I suppose..." Set muttered under his breath in the first break in good cheer the gathered heroes had seen from him since arriving. It passed quickly enough and he waved them in the direction of the smoke. "Onward, then! Better to show than tell, eh?" With that he was off, taking long, bounding strides across the dunes, dreadlocks bouncing behind him. Sekhmet seemed to throw herself forward and in the span of a blink the woman was replaced by a tawny lioness with a distinctive streak of black fur, likewise sprinting toward danger.

With a whoop a translucent blue figure appeared floating above the waterside path, shimmering into focus as though she had been just out of the onlookers' peripheral vision until that moment. Wild hair and tattered reaper's cloak streaming behind her in a phantom wind, the masked poltergeist made a sweeping gesture with one hand. In response the young Indian woman beside her rose gently into the air as well and the pair took off overhead at a sprinting pace. "On our way!" Ghost Girl reported in, somewhat belatedly scanning the buildings below for something that looked like an art museum. "This'll be great," she assured Indira with a wide grin, "Nick always finds the most outrageous stuff to fight! You'll totally be happy you came!"

Well, there's nothing stopping her from using her ranged powers up close but given the descriptors I think I'll say she's stuck using her +8 melee attack bonus rather than the +10 for ranged attack and throw her an HP for her trouble! Rob, you rolled a d10 for the HP reroll for some reason. You want to still roll 1d20+10, just as you did the first time, because rolling a natural 20 still has potential relevance. 29 - Seikahi’ino - Uninjured, 3HP 17 - Elite - Uninjured, 1HP 17 - Kharag - Uninjured, Flat-Footed, 1HP, Pending HP Reroll 17 - Deep Freeze - Uninjured, 1HP, Pending Fortitude Save 9 - Paradigm - Uninjured, 2HP 9 - Antibodies x12 - Uninjured 9 - Antibody x1 - Bound/Helpless 9 - Antibody x3 - Unconscious 8 - Communion Warship - Bruised x1 FTL Drive Repairs: 2/10

For those not in chat when I linked to it: From the position of the sun in the sky they can assume that they have indeed traveled to Egypt. There are some ancient, man-made structures a ways off into the distance that Miras can reasonably guess constitute a necropolis.

Stepping into the shadows felt like pushing through layer after layer of impossibly silken curtains chilled well below freezing. Once each of the heroes moved fully into the airless darkness an unseen force pulled them forward toward their destination with an unsettling sense of timelessness between heartbeats and impossible angles. Thankfully the sensation was over almost before it had time to register and the quartet stepped out onto solid stone and shifting sand, spread out evenly around a wide circle of hieroglyphs glowing with ultraviolet light. Sitting cross-legged at the center of the circle was a striking young man in a simple white shendyt trimmed in red and very little else. He exhaled in relief as the portal winked out of existence behind them, shaking a head full of thick, brick red dreadlocks and rolling his shoulders as though having just set down a tremendous weight. He reached out a hand to the powerfully athletic and similarly dressed woman standing beside him and when she ignored him completely the strange youth sighed and helped himself to his feet on his own. Brushing sand off of his knees he smiled winningly at the eclectic gathering. "Hail! Set here! Now, be not upset, however tis a tiny chance some misdirection was involved in your recruitment."

Reclining into the couch cushions, Trevor turned his head just enough to meet Erin's eyes with a sideways glance, the corner of his mouth quirking upward slightly. "Like riding a bike," he assured her before taking a quiet sip from his steaming mug. Karaoke wasn't exactly his idea of a good time either but did enjoy seeing the group having fun all the same. He felt a certain responsibility to Jesse, having helped bring her to Earth-Prime, and Aquaria had proven to be a good friend to her. Nina hadn't had an easy year, either, although the princess would never have admitted to any weakness. He was glad Joe had made it out, too; there was something grounding about the sometimes-steelworker that kept the otherwise strange assortment from seeming too surreal. All in all it was the most unfettered enjoyment of life the manor had seen in some time.

"Aw, but showing them all appeals to my barely repressed exhibitionist streak," Jill teased, draping an arm over Dragonfly's shoulder, careful not to get too close to the soldering elements on her girlfriend's fingertips. Thankfully there hadn't been any dire accidents to demand the medic's immediate attention and even her bioelectric force fields weren't much use around so many delicate, unshielded electronics but keeping Mara grounded while she was so deep into mad science mode was just about a full time job anyway. Learning about the extraterrestrial threat potentially headed for Earth had been sobering, dredging up memories of the Curator and his ringworld. It had been hard to wrap her head around the idea of an entire planet being completely wiped away, to imagine a war raging so far away that it was effectively invisible to them at home. She hoped that Iana, the Lor princess who'd crossed paths with the Interceptors more than once, was alright. Somehow, though, knowing that they were there, on the Moon of all places, actively preparing kept the whole thing from becoming overwhelming. Leaning forward she planted a light peck on the side of Dragonfly's helmet. "Feliz aniversario, muñequita." * * * * * "...which is why we're out here running evasion drills, 'cause that seems like a real waste of perfectly good flesh, amirite?" Jack of all Blades cut in over the radio after several beats of uncomfortable silence, taking advantage of the lower gravity to add a theatrical somersault to the apex of his bounding leap and land next to Caradoc. The Farsiders had been willing enough to make alterations to one of their environment suits for the swashbuckling Terran and if it fit a little snugly neither he nor the more appreciative among the locals seemed inclined to complain. Along with his wife and daughter he'd spent Christmas morning at his mother's house which had turned into quite the production now that Eden was getting old enough to actually enjoy the festivities. As much as he might have liked to take the entire day off his sister was determined to stay by Dragonfly's side throughout the lunar project and he had to admit that the chance to train a troop of moon men to help defend against alien defenders was too good for his ego to pass up. With his mother looking after Eden and Amaryllis Madison on Sanctuary, he and Min had teleported up to the station to lend a hand. Which turned out to have been a good idea, since he wasn't sure how much more of the freed Omegadrone's pep talk the Farsiders could have taken. "Maybe dial back the fatalism a couple notches, huh, Steve-o?" he suggested in an encouraging tone over a private channel. "We're not dead yet, hermano."

"Nothing so far!" a chipper, disembodied voice announced from further down along the Lagoa. The search for clues had dragged into the daylight hours and Kimber Storm had had to choose between fading into invisibility or trying to explain away an unorthodox recreation of a Dickens classic on the streets of Rio. Not being able to find any other ghosts with information about the disappearances they'd come to investigate had dampened her spirits slightly but that was far outweighed by the chance to spend the holiday in an exciting her city with her best friend. Leaning down again to speak into the relic her more corporeal companion was carrying, she added, "You're the expert, Nick, but if people are being snatched up that oughta be perfect conditions for vengeful spirits and such, eh?"

There's no incantation in the e-mail, Rav, they all have the same sort of shadow portal opening in whatever room they're in to take them to Egypt. Yes, this is a relevant detail!

Well, there's a high of about 20C / 70F and a low of about 10C / 50F, for the sake of argument.

Feel free to have each of your characters receive the same information as Asad through their own channels. I figure Maxima and Terrifica can already be at the summit; Citizen, too, unless you'd rather have him e-mail himself from Freedom City, AA. Vahnyu, Hronos is a cosmic enough sort of guy I expect you can come up with your own reasons for him being around!

December 25, 2014 Walking about the Dubai International Convention Centre and mingling, Amir al-Misri would have been well within his rights to congratulate himself on a very successfully hosted conference. The science and technology summit - his PR people had come up with a more pompous title but it had sounded a little too obviously designed by committee to stick in the billionaire philanthropist's mind - had drawn experts in civic engineering, clean energy initiatives, information networking and a few dozen other equally impressive fields from around the globe. The chance to compare notes and show off the latest prototypes had been incentive enough but the sizable grant money being offered by his firm to the most impressive projects hadn't hurt, either. He wasn't left to bask in satisfaction for long, however, as one of his aides rushed over, his colouring pallid with stress, and shoved a tablet into Amir's hands. "Sir! Sir, you have to see this," the uncharacteristically disheveled man insisted, running a hand through his neat beard. "Some sort of weapon just made groundfall in the Rub' al Khali! It looks like- the data suggests it was launched from orbit. The payload... we don't have any idea what we're looking at, sir." The thermal satellite image on the tablet showed an aerial view of the Empty Quarter with a small, strangely cool blotch at the site of the impact. A blotch that was slowly but noticeably spreading outward.

December 25, 2014 A ripple of tension had traced through the world's hero community, even those with few direct connections or who actively avoided such interactions with their peers. Something big was coming, perhaps already there, and the Freedom League was calling in everyone, every able body, to meet it. Details were scares and answers were scarcer but the apprehension of a soldier the night before shipping out hung over them all the same. That silent tension was broken as Asli Sadik's phone vibrated with a message notification, marked urgent with an attached video file. The compression had sacrificed some of the image quality but the hood, cloak and mask of Seven, a relatively recent addition to the League reputed to be a witch of considerable power, was immediately recognizable. The background was an indistinct blur but the urgency in her voice came through clearly enough. "Greetings, hero. My apologies for the intrusion but the need is great..." * * * * * "...great-whatever owed my great-whatever a favour and I'm calling in the chip," the porcine young man who'd identified himself as a descendant of Zhu Bajie told Daniel Lee as the grainy video played on the engineer's laptop screen. He snorted absently in a manner that wrinkled the entirety of his flat nose and hitched up his belt with both hands. "I ain't really got time to explain everything but I figure if I tell you there's adventure and demons to punch involved, won't take much convincing anyway..." * * * * * "...obviously the west bank of the Nile is a little out of the way for you," admitted Elwyn Eldrich, hockey jersey wearing nephew of the Master Mage, waving about a rune covered staff for emphasis, "but we're stretched a little thin here, frankly. Believe me, if I could leave the dread dimensions myself right now-- well, you know how they get around the holidays, I'm sure." As the video played the shadows in the corner of Jeremiah Cornwell's dorm room deepened unnaturally. "Now, can't keep the shadow portal I'm making for you open long..." * * * * * "...realize this is-- It's not how I wanted to do this," the stern young woman with Asgardian armor and a bow strapped to her back frowned, crossing and uncrossing her arms uncomfortably as John Fraser watched on his aging laptop's monitor. "But my mother always said that in a real emergency, you were the one I should contract. I'm sure you have a lot of questions - I would, too - but right now the world needs Arrowhawk." The video file ended and the gently spinning whirlpool of pitch black and midnight purple that had appeared a few meters away beckoned.

With the sand based wall around the door frame crumbling, light poured into the storehouse. The ground level was only about half full, some of the crates marked clearly as food or medical supplies while others were covered haphazardly with tarps or knocked over on their sides. Of much more interest was the large trap door in the middle of the floor that was even then in the process of sliding open, revealing a downward staircase and a pair of guards charging up to meet them, including the second Broan who had been with the sheriff earlier in the day. They stopped short as they reached the top of the stairs, looking between Bliss and their unconscious coworker. One of them, a thick-necked Lor, managed, "...Joon?"

Kharag's unrestrained telekinetic assault caused tubes to rupture and what was left of bones to pop from sockets, sending the Communion antibodies menacing the injured Lor toppling to the deck of the Either Ore in even more misshapen heaps. The ancient warrior had very consciously left nothing in reserve for defense and whether the remaining shrieking drone recognized that or would have charged him head on regardless was moot. The antibody tackled Kharag with strength well beyond what its organic shell would have suggested, shoving him against a bulkhead and battering away at him with clawed hands, silver liquid dripping from the corner of its mouth as it continued to scream in his face. Those screams were echoes by less alien cries of horror from the direction of the cargo bay! The antibodies that had come aboard with the one Sei had immobilized didn't give a moment's thought to their fallen ally but instead surged ahead to surround the archer. She dodged the first swing but the other two connected with powerful electric shocks that surged through her suit and into her flesh, wracking the Kahi'iru with convulsing spasms. The remaining four took advantage of her preoccupation to rush past her into the engineering room, quickly surrounding Ana as she tried to complete repair on the FTL drive. Moving like limbs controlled by a single consciousness they slashed at her with cybernetic talons, grimy, rusty things that promised a painful end if they had their way. Outside the warship backed away slightly as Paradigm opened a hole in its hull, almost as though it was recoiling in surprise or pain. It's plan became clear as it reoriented the main cannon the paragon had slipped past to point directly at her and unleashed a torrent of energy that would have torn a lesser being down to their atoms instantly.

Erik laughed at the jubilant reaction, clapping Stesha on the back with his free hand as she overcame her relatively diminutive reach to wrap them both in a hug. "See, this is why we need to get together more often, Sprouts," he told her with a broad grin, still chuckling. "When we told mi hermanita she said, and I quote, 'What, like, again?' Not joking!" He squeezed Min a little bit with the arm around her waist as they followed their hostess. Observant and empathic as always, Stesha had been exactly right about the combination of pregnancy and winter being trying but it didn't seem worth dwelling on just then. "I think we're looking at second half of March?" he added, looking to his wife for confirmation.

There was a short, awkward pause over the comm line before the voice answered back, "Yeah, I'm calling cull'n puckey, chummer. Don't move." Roulette could faintly hear stomping boots in the background as the speaker headed upstairs to confront them, just before a low, honking siren began playing from somewhere within the storehouse, muffled somewhat but unmistakeable as a call to arms. It looked as though the decision to try a more direct approach had been made for them!
