"'Course, I'm difficult all year long so I'm still the big winner on that one," Erik noted airily as he rose from his crouch to return the shorter woman's hug before moving to place an arm around his wife's waist as they walked. He'd come to terms with the knowledge that he was probably never going to be able to convince Min to stop apologizing for the way her moods were affected by the changing of the seasons but he equally doubted that he'd ever stop trying. Seeing her able to take a metaphorical breath of relief as they stepped between worlds did his heart good. "Ammy really is getting big," he remarked, craning his neck in the direction in which the girls had run off. He didn't consider himself an overprotective father but any time the topic came up there seemed to be a lot of snorts and chuckles from those who knew him. "If you've got any clothes she's outgrown you need to get rid of, hint hint..." He stuck his tongue out slightly between his teeth and waggled his eyebrows.

Rock felt like he was probably supposed to offer a reasonable counterpoint to such excessive force at that point but watching the planet shrink behind them on the scanners he was hard pressed to think of one. Sitting on his reinforced seat with his hands in his lap, the stoney goliath ultimately settled for a succinct, "Rock." After what had been done to it, that wasn't really a planet anymore, anyway, just an over-sized computer with delusions of grandeur squatting atop a corpse. There was a sound of scraping shale as Rock's hand clenched into fists. He knew they had been very lucky just to escape with their lives but all he could think was that he very much wanted another chance to punch the source of the patronizing, self-justifying voice until it broke into a billion irreparable pieces.

Big Leagues While the adult heroes of Freedom City spread out across the globe to combat the Incursion, the students of Claremont Academy are left to watch over their fair metropolis! When villains attempt to take advantage of the situation it will be up to these teen titans to rise to occasion! Against foes that give even the Freedom League and other seasoned veterans difficulty can they prevail? Can they even survive?! It may take a holiday miracle! Big Leagues is a vignette open specifically to Claremont Academy students excluded from Incursion: Phase Two, taking place between Christmas Day and New Years. The usual vignette rules apply: vignettes should be at least one word processor document page in length, limit one vignette per character. Given the prompt, players are encouraged to have appearances by established villains but should remember to PM the ref team with a request and summation of their vignette's plot just as they would when asking to use an NPC in a normal thread. Joint vignette are also encouraged this time around but are not necessary! Post your vignette in this thread by midnight of Saturday, January 31st so that it can be included in January's post counts!

Welcome to the second phase of Incursion! The silent night of December 25th is broken by the arrival of a threat from the stars! The worst has come to pass and the Communion has come for Earth! With attacks on every corner of the globe the heroes of Freedom City must leave the familiar rooftops of their home city behind to defend their planet from utter destruction! Event Ground Rules: With multiple threads running at once, timing is important. Players will be expected to post within a 24 hour period, particularly during combat initiative. If they are unable to do so, the GM will narrate the character's actions or circumstance in order to move the thread along, skipping the players turn. We will of course take the hectic schedule of the holidays into account! Phase Two is specifically for Earth based characters not already involved in Phase One. The war against the Communion has taxed the Galactic Coalition and its heroes to the very brink and a backward mudball like Terra will just have to fend for itself! Phase Two also will not include the students of Claremont Academy, in order to keep the number of characters more manageable. Fear not, however, as they will their own vignette instead! Sign Up: Sign up for Phase Two begins now and continues until midnight of Sunday, December 21st. Players may request to have more than one character involved in Phase Two. List your characters in the order you would most like to see them included, from most important to least. We will do our best to accommodate as many player characters as possible but it will be helpful to prioritize! Phase Two threads will begin Thursday, December 25th! Ruined shards of needle ship hull exploded outward at the Praetorians' assault but the simple scale of an entire squadron of fighters against a pair of unassisted individuals proved too much. The remain four ships streaked past, ignoring Paradigm and Elite except to give them a wide berth and headed instead direction for the Either Ore. Within the freighter the thunderous impacts sounded in rapid succession, a syncopated rhythm that shook the entire vessel. A wedge of silver metal erupted from the bulkhead of the hallway just in front of Kharag, throwing the unprepared Lor guards from their feet and sending them colliding with pained grunts into the far wall. A brief roar of decompression was silenced as the tip of the needle ship irised outward like some terrible seedpod, disgorging four humanoid figures of varying species. Each figure was a stilted mockery of life, silver patches covering their flesh and uneven tubes protruding from seemingly random places. With a harsh, electronic scream that emerged simultaneously from four mouths they surged forward to attack! Just outside the engine room more Communion antibodies leapt and crawled out of a pair of ships that had blocked off the hallway entirely with the portion of their bulk that had pierced the freighter and made a beeline for the nearest living target: Seikahi’ino! Meanwhile, in the vacuum of space, the warship turned its attention on the two women defiantly standing between it and its wounded prey. The weapons dotting the hull of the cruiser opened fire simultaneously, filling the void with green streaks of deadly energy. The attack was coordinated with computer precision, closing of avenues of escape and attempting to herd the heroes toward the blasts of the heavier cannons.

Well, I assume Paradigm strikes with enough force to cause an excitation of the ambient particles generated by her radiation treated meta-physique, resulting in a chain reaction of micro-fission reactions in an outward arc, ultimately delivering concussive physical energy to her intended targets. I mean, that's just basic high school science stuff, right? Communion Fighters The remaining four needle ships ignore the Praetorians and strike the Either Ore, each one releasing four 'antibody' boarders. Four are near Kharag, eight are heading for the engine room near Sei and Ana and four are... somewhere else! I'm sure all those civilians in the cargo hold are fiiiiine. Communion Warship Targeted Area Attack vs. Elite, Paradigm: 2#1d20+13 26 14 That'll miss Paradigm but I'll need a DC 28 Toughness Save from Elite. 29 - Seikahi’ino - Uninjured, 2HP 17 - Elite - Uninjured (Toughness Save Pending), 1HP 17 - Kharag - Uninjured, 2HP 17 - Deep Freeze - Uninjured, 1HP 9 - Paradigm - Uninjured, 2HP 9 - Antibodies x16 - Uninjured 8 - Communion Warship - Uninjured FTL Drive Repairs: 1/10

With a little cajoling Iqué was convinced to throw in a bottle of something for the Voidrunners' trouble, although from the smell of it Roulette couldn't be sure whether it was closer to a beverage or industrial solvent. The map provided by the sullen Grue proved fairly easy to follow even if having only recently left the hivemind it evidently hadn't occurred to K'jel to note landmarks or anything else to help them along. What passed for a global positioning network on the dustball of a planet had been a joke even without the crowds of refugee ships cluttering up orbit but Ruby proved up to the task of compensating for unreliable signals. The coordinates brought them to a storehouse made of the same hardened sand solution as most of the buildings they'd seen. The doors, however, were made of sterner stuff, metal that would have been more conspicuous if copious amounts of rust hadn't helped it blend in with the sand. Vents spaced out around its exterior suggested lower levels below ground and a familiar Broan patrolling the perimeter with a sizable scowl and an even more sizable rifle suggested they were in the right place.

"Hey, thanks for having us, Sprouts," Erik greeted with a wave and a smile, reflexively softening his normally well planted stance as the energetic girl nearly collided with his kneecap. "Woah, say! You traded in Ammy for a bigger model?" he asked with exaggerated surprise as he dropped into a crouch, his plain brown jacket shifting as he moved to reveal its wool lining. "That's cool, I guess. Ammy always ate all the applesauce before I could get any. This one looks like she takes up a lot more space, though!" He glanced over his shoulder toward his wife and daughter with a grin and as much as he was waiting for the reaction to his natural disposition towards 'dad humour' his secondary reason for searching Min's face was transparent. Winter was always a challenging time of year for the dryad and the hope had been that Sanctuary's abundant life would be a welcome relief.

100' does make more sense! I'll say that catches a second fighter, then, but the warship is still more than 100' across all on its own. Communion Fighters Reflex Save vs. DC 20: 1d20+7 14 Toughness Save vs. DC 25: 1d20+10 26 Kharag is still up. We'll be cleaving more closely to the 24 hour limit during combat.

A 10' cone doesn't get you quite as much in space as it does in the city but I'll say that hits the warship and one of the fighters. From your IC post should I assume you're holding off on activating her Master Plan? Communion Warship Reflex Save vs. DC 20: 1d20+2 7 Toughness Save vs. DC 25: 1d20+18 38 Communion Fighters Reflex Save vs. DC 20: 1d20+7 24 Toughness Save vs. DC 20: 1d20+10 18 The fighters as minions, as before, so that's enough to take it out of the fight. 29 - Seikahi’ino - Uninjured, 2HP 17 - Elite - Uninjured, 1HP 17 - Kharag - Uninjured, 2HP 17 - Deep Freeze - Uninjured, 1HP 9 - Paradigm - Uninjured, 2HP 9 - Communion Fighters x5 - Uninjured 8 - Communion Warship - Uninjured FTL Drive Repairs: 0/10 Kharag is up. Consider this your opportunity to position him where you'd like inside the Either Ore, Rob, before the fighting reaches him.

"Gosh, Tarvie, you're so defeatist, seriously!" Ghost Girl chided as she sped past - and in part through - the terrorized witch. The phantom subconsciously shifted her form slightly as she barreled toward the drones, fingers elongating into icicle points, the eyes behind her domino mask becoming icy blue embers set deep in pools of hollow shadow, he reaper's cloak flaring outward as though caught in a blizzard wind that could not be felt. She passed effortlessly though the murderous cyborgs one after another, banking in tight turns and unpredictable zig-zags to catch as many as possible, leaving a trail of wildly sparking circuits and fused wires as she passed. The soul tearing mechanisms that had transformed hapless meat into blasphemous killers plummeted shrieking into obsolescence as they failed completely to process the presence of the pure, vengeful spirit. "Don't think I missed you calling us your friends, though, big softie!" she called in a chipper voice as the drone she'd buried her arm in up to the elbow shuddered violently and drowned sputtering on its own leaking oil.

Samran-86 gave Paradigm a curt nod while the armed guards who's escorted the Praetorians to the cockpit hurried off to the cargo bay to keep watch over the rest of the refugees. None of them had time for much more as the Communion vessel roared into view, dwarfing the cargo hauler in size, a full complement of needle fighters orbiting around its misshapen bulk. At some point the vessel had clearly been a Khanate warship, it's familiar, angular design and prominent weapons instantly recognizable to the Lor and self-explanatory even to the less informed champions of fallen Delaztri Empire. Now, though, it had been transformed into something far more sinister, smooth silver smothering its surfaces as though poured on, tapering off into sharp, violent points. The space the bridge would have traditionally occupied was instead used for another battery of cannons with irising barrels that looked like miniature versions of the weapon that had torn Lor-Van asunder. With an inescapable sense of a sea creature consumed by parasites the ship neared the Either Ore at full speed without hailing, caring neither to announce its presence nor to hear pleas for mercy.

Goose, feel free to make an Aid check to help with Heritage's Craft (Mechanical) check. We'll start the initiative order in earnest with Elite.

Waiting the beat it took for Eclipse to disappear into the Horizon, Rock took a step back himself before leaping into the air, arms swinging to provide momentum "Rrrrooock!" The tremendous force of his legs kicking off of the tower's floor propelled him surprising speed and left deep impressions that quickly gave way to crumbling computronium as the already ruined building further collapsed, burying the antibodies trapped on the level below them. Rock caught the edge of the cargo bay door with a grunt and hauled himself on board, making a mental note to bang out the dents he'd just caused when they had time. Turning around he slapped the control that closed the hatch behind him, giving the hordes below and by extension their proselytizing master a particularly rude gesture before disappearing from view.

"Just how much do you need me to spell this out for you, son?" Noz asked, frowning slightly and looking more than a little annoyed at how obtuse Roulette was intentionally being. "You're looking for what that Tigg chummer had with him, I know where the guy who had him killed stores his assorted shinies." The older bar patron glanced over at Bliss as she entered but didn't seem any more surprised by her than the rest of the bounty hunters. "You lot seem about as subtle as a sack of spanners, frankly, so any collateral damage that might occur, well, I think we're agreed it couldn't happen to a worthier sort." He gestured to K'jel and the Grue metamorph produced a small, palm-sized device that projected a small map of the city. "You take what you came for and let us worry about cleaning up the rest once you're gone. Clear enough for you or do you need to borrow a bar rag for your fancy visor?"

Set let Eliza take her hand briefly and made a show of cheering up noticeably at the compliment, gamely shooing the elementalist off after Sharl with her free hand. As soon as the coffee shop's door shut, however, the godling's shoulders sagged again and lips painted the same shade as her eye makeup twisted into a scowl of self-reproach. With a moment's separation from pride, a thousand scenarios leapt to mind to have better handled the whole affair. It was hardly the first time someone had questioned the nature of divinity in the modern era and if ever there had been a time to demonstrate polite composure over argumentative sniping this had surely been it. Settling accounts with the barista she stepped outside with a sigh, freezing mid-step as she recognized as familiar face waiting on the sidewalk, arms crossed. "Ah. Sekhmet." "Sekhmet," the taller goddess agreed, looking characteristically irritated but less enraged than Set had been expecting. Sekhmet looked her charge up and down briefly and snorted. "Hmph. Thy machinations have brought thee to ruin, then?" Set sniffed haughtily and brushed past her minder, tilting her chin upward imperiously. "I'm sure I don't know what you mean." Sekhmet fell in a step behind, a predatory and quite feline smile spreading across her face, exposing prominent canine teeth. "Ha! Do not think I cannot recognize a scrying ritual when I see one, liesmith. Blessed Ra, thy even dressed and groomed in a mortal fashion upon the morn, no..." She snapped her fingers in an exaggerated and mocking imitation of the godling's frequent affectation when exercising the abilities of godhood. "Vanity ranks high amongst they sins, but even thee rarely spend so much time fretting over thy reflection." "So sometimes I prefer to wear normal clothing rather than summoning garb," Set shot back snappishly, eyes narrowing in annoyance as Sekhmet proved all together more observant than she would have liked. "Tis a flattering dress. I fail to see your point, should you even have one." "She was with someone, was she not?" Set said nothing as they continued to walk back toward the Cline Building. "Made an ass of thyself, hm?" Set muttered something unintelligible under her breath. Sekhmet enjoyed a hearty belly laugh at the storm god's expense. "Better fortune in the future, then. Shall be required, methinks!"

Standing behind Eclipse, Rock leaned forward himself to get a better look out the hole he'd made, looming over his captain. His mouth compressed into a thin line as he considered the hordes of anitbodies forming a mob between them and the site of their crash landing. Straightening, he did some rough mental arithmetic before shrugging and giving Eclipse a sloppy thumbs up and a game smile. "Rrrock." Flexing his knees a few time to the sound of scraping stone he cracked his neck loudly and gestured for her to get on his back. "Rock!" Before he could carry them through the ruined wall the antibodies below were pushed stumbling back by force pushing down on the from above. Looking upward the trio saw the Horizon hovering near the top of the tower and descending toward them, atmospheric engines crescendoing into a small roar as it got closer. Nae-Dae's voice rang out over the comms, free from static with the destruction of the server room. "Yeeehaaaw! Lookit who's here to save all your two-armed butts!" Laserfire spewed toward the ground erratically, automated targeting keeping the shambling corpses honest while the cargo bay door began to open. "Oi, boss, we really gotta talk about getting a booster seat or something in here."
